The lineup will include three different smartphones; the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The promotional images of two of the devices from the lineup were previously leaked. Well, out of nowhere, sudden news has started appearing online that claims that the brand could also their the OneUI 5.1 alongside the S23 lineup in the same event.

Samsung One UI 5.1

According to reports, Samsung is internally testing the One UI 5.1 update for the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra with firmware version S90xEXXU2CVL7. The test firmware was discovered on Samsung’s servers and could be issued to the Galaxy S22 series a few days after the Galaxy S23 series is released. According to Samsung’s usual strategy, One UI 5.1 will be released first on the Galaxy S23 series. The latest software skin is expected to bring some minor changes as we are not really expecting some major changes in the software as of now.

While it is unclear what features One UI 5.1 may provide. However, a few months ago, the company revealed that it has reserved some lock screen customization capabilities for One UI 5.1, which will be based on Android 13.  We’d like to see the company implement Android 13’s new media player widget design in the notifications area, as well as the predictive back gesture, partial screen mirroring, and taskbar improvements. The brand may also do some under-the-hood changes to bring a smoother and more user-friendly experience.

Pokémon is suing Australian firm for using its trademark on NFT game called PokéWorld

The Pokémon Company is filing a lawsuit against a company called the Pokémon Pty Ltd. The company has filed a lawsuit in the Federal Court of Australia. The company is suing the company over an NFT based game that is using its trademark.

The NFT based title is based on the massively popular fictional world of the same name. The Australian based firm is facing the legal dispute since it is completely unrelated to the actual Pokémon Company. For those unaware, Kotiota Studios has advertised that it is gearing up to launch an NFT game that is called the PokéWorld, which features the iconic Pocket Monsters from the Japanese animated series that is worth billions.

Pokémon

Pokémon Pty Ltd has previously claimed that it has worked with the Pokémon Company in the past on certain titles like the Pokémon Scarlet, Pokémon Violet, Pokémon Home, and the unreleased Pokémon Sleep as well. The PokéWorld website is still online, but the original company is asking the court to intervene and prevent the Australian company from infringing on its trademarks that can be found on its websites and social media. In other words, basically blocking the game before its launch.

As per a new report, the company first realized the fraud when Kotiota Studios reached out to several media websites to boost the reach of the yet to be released title. The lawsuit was filed earlier this month and the first hearing was held on December 21. Here, the legal counsel of the original company showed up while there was no one from the Kotiota Studios. Thus, the Pokémon Company is planning on taking additional legal actions.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Struggles to Meet Expectations and Close Sales Gap with iPhone 14

Samsung’s Galaxy S22 sales may not meet the company’s expectations due to a number of factors, according to recent analysis. One reason for the sluggish sales of Samsung’s flagship model is a software controversy, while the rapid increase in sales of the low-end Galaxy A lineup may also be a factor. In addition, Apple‘s iPhone 14 series has reportedly widened the average selling price (ASP) gap between the two companies.

According to market research firm Counterpoint Research, Samsung’s ASP for smartphones increased by only 2% year-on-year in the third quarter of this year, while Apple’s ASP increased by 7%. This trend is expected to continue in the fourth quarter. Another factor that may be affecting Samsung‘s sales is the company’s brand positioning in the global market. While Samsung is the top seller of smartphones in terms of shipment numbers, most of these are low-end models that are popular in specific regions such as Europe, Southeast Asia, and South America.

Samsung Galaxy S22

In contrast, Apple’s flagship models, including the iPhone 11 to 13, dominate the top 10 list of most-shipped models. Samsung’s foldable phones, such as the Galaxy Z Flip, also have limited influence outside of Korea and Europe. To address these issues, some analysts have suggested that Samsung should consider revising its brand positioning to better compete with Apple in the global market.

The company may also need to put more effort into promoting its products in overseas markets, where the perception of the Galaxy brand may be different than it is in Korea. Samsung launched the Galaxy S22 earlier this year with a focus on 5G technology, but it remains to be seen if this will be enough to boost sales and close the gap with Apple.

On the other hand, the 14 inch and 16 inch MacBook Pro will get you a gift card worth 32,000 Yen.

Apple

Apart from just the gift card, the brand is also offering the first 30,000 customers in Japan who purchase a new iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone SE, or even the iPhone 12 will get a limited edition AirTag with a Year of the Rabbit engraving for 2023 during this promotional event. Furthermore, Apple has also shared the full terms and conditions during this time with additional details.

Keep in mind that the iPhone order placed through the Apple Store app will not qualify for a limited edition AirTag. In other words, those interested on buying this device should complete the purchase from Apple’s official website. The promotion will also be available at the brand’s retail stores in Japan. Apple typically runs a Japanese New Year promotion for many years with last year’s promotion offering a limited edition of AirTag for the Year of the Tiger.

Samsung’s Camera Assistant App Coming to More Galaxy Devices for Better Camera Experience

Samsung is reportedly working on making its Camera Assistant app available for more devices, according to a post on the company’s community forum for South Korea. The brand has stated that it will try to make the app available for as many devices as possible and will announce the expansion schedule soon.

The Camera Assistant app is a module for the Good Lock app and was launched in October of this year. It offers advanced customization options for the camera’s settings and behavior, giving users more control over their device’s camera than the stock camera app. With the Camera Assistant app, users can customize the auto mode of their device’s camera and enable or disable automatic HDR.

It also allows for automatic lens switching when shooting subjects that are far away and enables users to shoot videos while in Photo mode by holding down the shutter button. Additionally, the app includes a Quick Shot feature that reduces motion blur in still images, although it may slightly lower image quality.

Despite its useful features, the Camera Assistant app has only been available for the Galaxy S22 series since its launch, leaving users of other devices without access. Many users have been requesting that Samsung make the app available for their devices as well, and it seems that the brand has taken their feedback into consideration. However, it is currently unclear which devices the app will be available on or when it will be released.

In addition to working on expanding the availability of the Camera Assistant app, Samsung has also recently updated the app to allow its icon to adapt to the color of the phone’s wallpaper, thanks to Android 13’s dynamic icon feature. The brand has also released the updated Expert RAW app, which allows users to capture bright photos of stars and constellations. With these updates and the potential expansion of the Camera Assistant app, it seems that Samsung is dedicated to improving the camera experience for its users. For those interested, you can check out the application by clicking on this link here.

Huawei Bringing Back Dual Flagship Launches with P60 and Mate 60 Series

Huawei is reportedly planning to launch two flagship smartphones in 2023, according to a supply chain report. The Chinese tech giant is said to have two flagship launch events planned for the year, with the unveilings expected to take place around March and September. These events will reportedly feature the Huawei P60 and Mate 60 series, which will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets and are expected to support 4G networks, though it is unclear if they will also support 5G.

Until recently, Huawei had a tradition of launching two flagship phones per year. In the past, the company would unveil a P series device in the first half of the year and a Mate series device in the second half. This allowed Huawei to consistently offer consumers a range of high-end smartphones throughout the year. However, due to supply chain issues, Huawei has only been able to launch one flagship per year in recent years. The success of the Huawei Mate 50 series, which has been well-received by consumers, appears to have spurred the company to return to its dual flagship launch tradition in 2023.

Huawei

While sales of Huawei‘s smartphones have increased significantly in recent months, with 8.6 million units sold in the third quarter of this year, a 48.3% increase from the same period in the previous year, the company has not yet confirmed these plans through official channels. It is worth noting that the success of the Huawei Mate 50 series has likely contributed to this increase in sales, as the device offers a variety of new features and a fresh design that has resonated with consumers.

As we are still some time away from the 2023 launch season, it is unclear what features the P60 and Mate 60 series will offer or what they will be named. However, given Huawei‘s track record of producing high-quality smartphones, it is likely that these devices will be well-received by consumers when they are eventually unveiled. Until then, we will have to wait for more information to become available.

And as of just yesterday, the POCO X2, Redmi K30, Redmi K30 5G, Redmi 8, and Redmi 8A have been added to this list. So they will no longer receive any form of software support from Xiaomi. While many POCO X2 users had been waiting for the MIUI 13 update, it is clear that this will never be the case and there are no plans for an update at the moment. For those unaware, the stable MIUI 13 build was tested on this phone back in April 2022, although the company did not release this update due to various bugs and other issues.

So for those that want to have an up to date handset model that is also not vulnerable to potential security risk, buying a new phone is the best option. This doesn’t mean that the aforementioned phones are immediately at risk, but over time they are much more vulnerable than phones that are still being supported by the brand.

TSMC To Start Mass Production Of Next-Gen 3nm Chips This Week

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, aka TSMC, which is the world’s largest foundry, is all set to start the mass production of its 3nm chips this week.

Apple, which is among the top customers for the Taiwan-based company, will be the primary customer for the chips manufactured using this new process and will be a part of the tech giant’s M2 lineup.

TSMC Logo

As per the report, TSMC will start mass production of 3nm chips on 29th December, Thursday, which is in line with the previous reports, which indicated that the company could start mass production of the 3nm node process by the end of the year.

It is said that TSMC will hold a ceremony at Fab 18 at the Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP) on December 29 to mark the start of commercial production of chips using 3nm process technology. It will also detail plans to expand 3nm chip production at the fab, according to sources at semiconductor equipment companies.

For Apple, before the A17 Bionic chip for the upcoming iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Ultra models, the Cupertino-based company is expected to place orders for the 3nm M2 Pro chip, which will be powering the upcoming MacBook Pro and the Mini Mini. Both these chips, A17 Bionic and M2 Pro, are expected to ship later next year.

Samsung is also able to mass produce 3nm chips using Gate-All-Around (GAA) transistors, allowing more precise control of current flow through each transistor and improved power efficiency. TSMC will be using FinFET transistors for the 3nm node but will adopt GAA transistors for the 2nm chips, which is likely to happen in 2025.

Google Pixel 7 users complain of glass on rear camera cracking

Google has faced a rocky launch cycle with its Pixel 6 series of smartphones. The 2021 flagship lineup were riddled with bugs soon after launch and also faced various other issues. Now, users of the newer Pixel 7 series have also began complaining of a new problem and it appears to be a big problem.

In the past, we have reported on the Pixel 6 series suffering from an issue that made its under display fingergrint scanner slow or unreliable at times. Similarly, they were even issues with its WiFi network and more. Fortunately, the Pixel 7’s launch was a lot better, although it still had its fair share of hiccups. Owners of the Pixel 7 phones have now taken to Twitter and Reddit to show that their device’s rear camera module’s bar glass has began cracking.

Google

According to one of the tweets stated that, “Not even a month, no drops just regular use. Have a case on the phone. Been told Its my problem. Is this really the quality control backed by google? It’s clearly a manufacturing defect, and I know I’m not the only one. Please fix this google!” In other words, it appears that the company’s units might have a defect considering the rear camera glass is shattering without any physical damage.

Similarly on Reddit, a user said that “I pulled my phone out of my pocket and the back camera glass was broken. I must have hit a corner while it was in my pocket. Has anyone else had this problem? I called around to the phone fixing stores and nobody has the replacement parts yet. Don’t really want to have to mail this phone in to have it fixed as it’s currently the only phone I have.” These aren’t far and few in between either since there were multiple reports that faced a similar issue. Google has yet to officially acknowledge this problem, so stick around for more updates.
