Purported Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G NE bags IMDA certification in Singapore

Xiaomi has recently launched the Xiaomi 12 Lite smartphone in some markets like Malaysia and the Philippines. It is a 5G-ready phone powered by the Snapdragon 778G mobile platform. Some reports have claimed that the company is also working on another device called the Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G NE, which will replace last year’s Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE. The purported Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G NE has been certified by Singapore’s IMDA authority.

Around five months ago, Xiaomiui spotted the 2209129SC and 2210129SG model numbers in the IMEI database. The former will be launching today (Sept. 27) in China as the Xiaomi CIVI 2 smartphone. There is a possibility that the 2210129SG, which is heading towards the global market, may bear some similarities to the CIVI 2.

As it is known, the CIVI 2 will be a female-focused phone for the Chinese market. The Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G NE, on the other hand, may end up as a tweaked version of the CIVI 2 for the global market.

Xiaomi CIVI 2 specifications (expectd)

The Xiaomi CIVI 2 will feature a 6.56-inch AMOLED display with curved edges and a centrally positioned punch-hole. It will support an FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It is just our assumption that the Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G NE may end up with a flat AMOLED display.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 will power the Xiaomi CIVI 2 with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of native storage. It will arrive with a 4,500mAh battery and 67W fast charging.

It will feature a 32-megapixel (main) + 32-megapixel (ultra-wide) dual front-facing cameras. Its back panel will house a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 triple camera unit.

iPhone 14 Pro Max vs iPhone 13 Pro Max: Specs Comparison

Apple released the new iPhone 14 series and, just like last year, the lineup includes two Pro variants, with the most advanced being the iPhone 14 Pro Max. But this year, there are way more differences between the standard variants and the Pro ones. You can notice this from the aesthetics, but they do not stop there. That is the reason why a lot of people are wondering whether or not there is a high amount of differences even between the iPhone 14 Pro Max and its predecessor. The iPhone 13 Pro Max is currently available at much more affordable street prices, which is why a lot of people are evaluating this purchase instead of the new model. But which one should you choose? We will try to answer the question in the best way through this comparison between the specifications of the iPhone 14 Pro Max and its predecessor iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Design

The first evident difference between the iPhone 14 Pro Max and its predecessor is in the design. The new model introduces the new Dynamic Island, which is essentially a pill shaped punch hole replacing the old and outdated notch. Dynamic Island is not only used to contain the front camera and the hardware sensor for 3D facial recognition but also as a mini screen to display important information about what is happening on the phone. The iPhone 13 Pro Max comes with a notch above the display, just like most of the iPhones released in the last years. The rear side is similar to the internal rival, with a square shaped camera module and a glass back protected by Ceramic Shield and paired with a frame made of stainless steel. Both the handsets are waterproof with the IP68 certification allowing you to put them underwater up to 6 meters deep for a max time of 30 minutes without damage.

Display

The displays of these phones are very similar, so it is almost a draw here. These two phones sport a Super Retina XDR OLED panel with a diagonal of 6.7 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1284 x 2778 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, the HDR10 certification, and Dolby Vision support. The only important difference is the difference: the iPhone 13 Pro Max is able to reach 1,200 nits, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max goes up to 2,000 nits. And, naturally, the absence of the notch on the new model (in favor of Dynamic Island), but we already talked about it in the preceding paragraph and there is nothing more to say about it. Unlike Android phones, these devices do not feature a fingerprint reader but they rely on 3D facial recognition for authentication, thanks to the Face ID technology.

Specs & Software

Another important difference between these two devices is the processor. The iPhone 13 Pro Max is powered by the Apple A15 Bionic: a chipset built with a 5 nm production process and sporting an hexa-core architecture composed of two Avalanche performance cores running at a max frequency of 3.23 GHz, four Blizzard energy efficient cores running at a max frequency of 1.82 GHz, and a 5-core proprietary Apple GPU. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is fueled by the new Apple A16 Bionic chipset built with a 4 nm production process and with an hexa-core architecture composed of two Everest CPUs running at a max frequency of 3.46 GHz, four Sawtooth CPUs running at 2.02 GHz, and a 5-core Apple proprietary GPU. So, with the new model, you get a performance boost and even lower energy consumption, thanks to the better production process. The memory configurations are exactly the same and they include 6 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of internal storage (you can also choose 128 GB, 256 GB, or 512 GB). Last but not least, the new model runs iOS 16 out of the box, while the older one comes with iOS 15.

Camera

Another important improvement of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is the main rear camera, as it sports the new 48 MP main shooter with an f/1.8 focal aperture and OIS. The secondary sensors remain the same, with a 12 MP telephoto lens sporting 3x optical zoom and an ultrawide lens with a 12 MP resolution; however, the focal apertures of the secondary sensors are different.

Battery

The battery of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is slightly smaller compared to the one of the iPhone 13 Pro Max, but the battery life is longer thanks to better optimization and a more energy efficient chipset. The charging technologies remain the same.

Price

The iPhone 14 Pro Max starts from almost €1500 or $1100, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max can easily be purchased for less than €1300 or $1000 thanks to the current street prices. Which one would you pick?

“Further, at some point in 2024, Jio will also be compelled to launch an affordable 5G mmWave + sub-6GHz smartphone as the cost deltas between the two have narrowed significantly from the overall BoM (bill of materials) fitting perspective,” the report said.

JioPhone 5G

Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, announced at the Reliance AGM 2022 that Jio will launch ultra-affordable 5G phones in collaboration with Google. Although, he did not give any pricing information.

Xiaomi Auto Technology gets an EV Charging Patent

Xiaomi‘s EV arm Xiaomi Auto Technology has patented an EV charging system in its race to manufacture an electric vehicle (EV). The new patent was approved by the Chinese Intellectual Property Organization (CNIPO) and also reported by the global body, WIPO. Xiaomi has severally stated its plans to manufacture its first EV by 2024.

The new proprietary charging system is an end-to-end system with smart or automatic operations incorporated into it. This could rival Tesla’s Supercharger architecture and can integrate into a home or enterprise grid. The development of its charging system will provide a great impetus for Xiaomi. However, clarity is lacking on the compatibility of the system with universal battery architecture. Its utility is greatly affected if it lacks such compatibility.

Xiaomi could be close to the unveiling of its first EV by 2024. Xiaomi’s Lei Jun would hope to pull off the feat of a Xiaomi EV before he completes his tenure in a couple of years. Xiaomi Auto Technology will need to navigate through the highly competitive EV market to deliver its first EV. Xiaomi will compete against some heavy hitters in the market like TESLA for a share of the market.

Sony launches updated PS5 with 6nm AMD Oberon Plus chip for better power efficiency and thermals

Unlike the previous generation PlayStation 4 series that launched in a Pro and Slim variant, it appears that Sony has no real plans to launch new variants of the its PlayStation 5 game console anytime soon. Although, this doesn’t mean that it hasn’t updated its PS5 model at all.

The Japanese tech giant had recently started shipping the new CFI-1202 that was spotted in Australia. Known YouTuber Austin Evans recently made a new video, which had him teardown the console. Based on this video, we can see that the latest model is much lighter than the PS5 models that were released on launch. Apart from a lighter weight, the company’s new console variant also apparently ran cooler than the original PS5 model while also being more power efficient as well.

The differences doesn’t end there as a WccFTech report also claimed that the new PlayStation 5 CFI-1202 arrives with an enhanced AMD Ober processor, which is dubbed the Oberon Plus chip. This SoC is based on a 6nm process manufactured by TSMC. Thanks to its its 6nm chip, the console runs cooler and even houses a smaller heatsink that, in turn, makes it even lighter than the launch PS5 variants.

Sony

Sony typically releases its refreshed versions of its consoles around the third year of a new generation. Since we are still in the second year, we can expect the launch of a new PS5 Slim and possibly a PS5 Pro version as well soon. Although, the company has yet to announce anything regarding this matter so far.

Apple Watch UItra durability test: Survives a hammer but the table didn’t

Apple has just recently launched its new top end Watch Ultra model that is also by far its most expensive smartwatch till date. Now, a YouTuber put it under a durability test and the results were surprising to say the least.

The Cupertino based giant’s Watch Ultra is the latest flagship smartwatch, and now, YouTuber TechRax put its durability to the test. Looking at this video, we can see the Watch Ultra smartwatch undergo a number of different endurance tests. This includes a drop from a height of four feet. The Watch Ultra did not have any cracks but did have a few minor dents on its casing. Following this, the Watch Ultra was even thrown in a jar of nails, but it still was able to survive without any scratches.

But these were just the start, the YouTuber also had one final durability test in mind. The device got hammered on its sapphire crystal display a number of times. Despite going through such physical trauma, the Watch Ultra was capable of enduring these hits before it finally got cracked. However, there was one interesting thing to note here. The table on which the Apple Watch was placed actually started showing signs of damage before the Watch Ultra.

Apple Watch Ultra

Meaning, it started breaking before the smartwatch’s display got a crack. Although, the Watch Ultra didn’t fair much better either since the multiple hits had the device fail to turn on after the test. This implies that it suffered from some major damage on its internal hardware. But realistically speaking, a user’s Watch would never actually face such a tough situation.

Samsung Galaxy A53 to get Android 13 update before 2023: Report

Samsung has been running the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 beta program for multiple smartphones across different regions for the last few weeks. However, the company is yet to reveal the list of eligible devices and update rollout plan.

Ahead of that, a report has now emerged detailing the handsets that may get access to the latest version of Android before 2023. Let’s check out which Samsung phones will be the first to receive the One UI 5.0 stable update.

Samsung Galaxy Logo

According to a report by SamMobile, Samsung will update two generations of its flagship smartphones to One UI 5.0 stable based on Android 13 by the end of 2022. What’s more interesting is that the South Korean tech giant will also deliver this update to a mid-ranger during this same period.

The device in question is none other than Galaxy A53. If this is true, then, the A53 will become the first A series phone to receive the latest Android update alongside the flagships.

With that out of the way, here’s the list of Samsung handsets that are said to get Android 13 stable update before 2023.

  • Galaxy Z Fold 4
  • Galaxy Z Fold 3
  • Galaxy Z Flip 4
  • Galaxy Z Flip 3
  • Galaxy S22 Ultra
  • Galaxy S21 Ultra
  • Galaxy S22 Plus
  • Galaxy S21 Plus
  • Galaxy S22
  • Galaxy S21
  • Galaxy A53

Though Samsung’s update plan seems good based on this report, it actually falls behind Oppo’s. The latter has already rolled out the Android 13 stable update for its as well as OnePlus’ 2022 flagships.

Anyway, Samsung is ahead of all Android OEMs in terms of longer support. It is the only brand to offer 4 generations of Android updates and 5 years of security updates.

Apple starts manufacturing iPhone 14 in India

Apple has started manufacturing iPhone 14 in India and the company has also confirmed the same. The recently unveiled latest generation flagship is the first iPhone model to be produced in the country soon after its launch. The smartphone is been made at the Foxconn plant near Chennai.

iPhone 14

Till now, Apple has been manufacturing four iPhone models in India through its contract partners for several years now. However, the production cycles of the phones were delayed by a quarter or two after launching. Locally producing the new iPhone 14 will save Apple import duties and taxes but the brand won’t reduce the price of the smartphone in the country as it has not happened with the older models either. Foxconn is a pioneer when it comes to manufacturing electronics globally.

The iPhone 14 produced in India will be sold in the country and globally with a ‘Made in India’ tag. However, the device manufactured in India will take a few weeks to reach the hands of customers.

In a statement, Apple said “We’re excited to be manufacturing iPhone 14 in India, the new iPhone 14 lineup introduces groundbreaking new technologies and important safety capabilities.”

Previously, a report by JP Morgan stated that Apple is expected to relocate 5 percent of iPhone 14 manufacturing to India by the end of 2022 and 25 percent of production of all iPhones in the country by 2025.
