Vivo X80 vs X80 Pro: Specs Comparison

If you thought that Vivo X Fold and Vivo X Note were the only Vivo top-tier flagships for this quarter of the year, you were wrong. A few hours ago, the Blue Factory came up with the new Vivo X80 Series composed of the Vivo X80 and the Vivo X80 Pro. The company decided not to launch the Pro+ variant: it will come later, sometime in Q3 2022. Meanwhile, we know all the specifications of the other two variants just announced for the Chinese market, and we also know that they will hit the global market as well. This comparison will highlight the difference between their specifications in order to let you understand which one is the best device for your needs.

Design

There are only minor differences in the designs of the Vivo X80 and the Vivo X80 Pro: if you look at each of them alone, you won’t be able to distinguish them. The only important difference when it comes to aesthetics is the size of the rear camera module. These flagships went official in three different color variants with three different materials for the rear side: the blue version has a rear side made of AG glass, the black one has a ceramic back, and the orange one is made of vegan leather. Which material do you prefer?

Display

One of the most important advantages of the Vivo X80 Pro if compared to the vanilla version is the display. This handset comes with an AMOLED panel with a diagonal of 6.78 inches sporting a Quad HD+ resolution and the LTPO 2 technology enabling an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz. The vanilla version has a lower Full HD+ resolution and it lacks the LTPO 2 technology, so its level of detail will be lower and its energy consumption will be higher. But the vanilla version still comes with a great AMOLED display including an in-display fingerprint reader and a 120 Hz refresh rate.

Specs & Software

The Vivo X80 Pro comes in two variants with different chipsets: one is fueled by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 mobile platform and the other is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The chip is paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. The vanilla version will be only available with the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset paired with up to 12 GB of RAM. Given that, according to benchmarks, the Dimensity 9000 is a stronger chipset than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the hardware comparison is a draw. Both the phones run Android 12 out of the box, customized by OriginOS. Once they will hit the global market, these handsets will run Funtouch OS 12 based on Android 12.

Camera

The Pro variant is called Vivo X80 Pro especially due to its superior camera setup. It has a Samsung ISOCELL GNV main sensor with a 50 MP resolution and OIS, a 12 MP telephoto sensor for portraits with 2x optical zoom, an 8 MP periscope camera with 5x optical zoom, and a 48 MP Sony IMX598 ultrawide lens. The vanilla version replaces the Samsung ISOCELL GNV sensor with a Sony IMX866 coming with the same resolution, it retains the telephoto sensor but it lacks the periscope camera, and the ultrawide sensor is an inferior 12 MP snapper.

Battery

The Vivo X80 Pro comes with a bigger battery sporting a capacity of 4700 mAh and, unlike the vanilla version, it supports fast wireless charging, with a power of 50W. The Vivo X80 has a smaller 4500 mAh battery and it only features 80W fast wired charging.

Price

The starting price of the Vivo X80 in China roughly translates into €527/$565, while you need at least $840/€784 to purchase the Pro variant. This said, the Pro variant is waterproof and it offers a better display, superior cameras, and a bigger battery with wireless charging. Would you spend more on these features?

Purported Redmi Display 1A Pro receives TUV Rheinland certification

Xiaomi‘s Redmi brand made its entry into the smart monitor market in 2020 with the launch of the Redmi Display 1A. Since then, the company has gone on to launch a number of high-end displays, including gaming monitors but none in the same price category as the 1A. Looks like the company will soon release another affordable smart display.Redmi Display 1A

A certification listing spotted on Certipedia shows that a Redmi display believed to be the Redmi Display 1A Pro has been certified for low blue light by TUV Rheinland. This means the device will feature a similar display as the 1A which filters out harmful blue light.

The entire specs of the Redmi Monitor 1A aren’t known, we expect the monitor to some with some improvement over its predecessor. The display may feature a 144Hz or even higher refresh rate. We also expect features such as AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync functionality as well.Redmi Display 1A Monitor 02

Xiaomi may likely not alter the design of the Pro version markedly from the Redmi Display 1A. However, we expect a refreshed specs lineup. The pricing will likely be higher than that of the Display 1A which is presently listed on Xiaomi Mall for 700 Yuan. The Redmi Display 1A Pro may come in slightly higher.

Exec: OnePlus can expand to 10,000 stores overnight if needed

Back in June 2021, OnePlus officially announced its merger with OPPO. OnePlus customers and fans alike were divided by this decision with many believing that the brand will lose its identity over time.

OPPO + OnePlus logo

Although OnePlus merged its operating system codebase with OPPO’s ColorOS and the Chinese OnePlus devices come with ColorOS out of the box, the brand has largely been able to maintain its identity. Now, in an interview, OnePlus China’s president Li Jie has shared some of the advantages that have been gained from the merger.

In an interview with NetEase Technology and other media outlets, Li Jin revealed that they are now able to expand to 10,000 offline stores overnight in China. As we know, OnePlus for the large part has been an online-focused brand with most of its sales happening online. Using OPPO’s resources, OnePlus can now expand its physical stores to 2,800 county towns, 4,000 core business districts, and more than 5,000 experience points overnight.

The company is able to do so by opening its experience stores inside of existing OPPO outlets. Usually, it takes years for a manufacturer to establish 10,000 physical stores, and it also takes a lot of capital investment. But that’s not the case for OnePlus as Li Jin explains “OPPO’s store is ready-made, the rent has been paid, and the basic salary of the experienced consultant has been paid. For us, it is only on the counter. Find an area that belongs to OnePlus, put the product on it, and if the product generates some sales or services, you will get a commission. This is the benefit of integration, and the offline cost is very low.”

Li Jie also emphasized the importance of having offline experience store sayings “Our products and brands have always emphasized workmanship and texture, including detail polishing. If there is no offline experience link, many times users don’t know or perceive it!”

Oneplus Ace / Oneplus 10R
Oneplus Ace

Using OPPO’s supply chain to achieve this will largely reduce the cost and investment for OnePlus. OnePlus president also pointed out many other benefits they enjoy with the merger. OnePlus recently launched the OnePlus Ace which features OPPO’s 150W SUPERVOOC fast charging. The cutting edge fast charging speed would’ve been difficult to achieve as OnePlus previously worked alone and only had one or two thousand engineers. After the integration, it cooperates with more than 10,000 engineers from OPPO expanding its R&D capabilities and increasing efficiency.

Separately, the recently launched OnePlus Ace will be rebranded for the global market and launch with the OnePlus 10R moniker in India on April 27. Check out our roundup story to learn more about the upcoming phone.

Now, it’s time for the lower-end variant of the phone which will likely be called the iQOO Neo 6 SE. The phone emerged on a few certifications in the past, but there wasn’t anything concrete revealing all of its details. The popular tipster DigitalChatStation has now revealed the phone’s key highlights. Let’s take a look.

The iQOO Neo 6 SE is tipped to come with a 6.62-inch punch-hole display with a Full-HD+ resolution. The screen will an OLED panel with a 120Hz touch sampling rate. This is the same as the iQOO Neo 6. Furthermore, the smartphone is said to come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset. This is contrary to the previous rumors that said it will arrive with the Snapdragon 778G+ SoC.

vivo iQOO Neo6

As for the battery, the tipster reveals the device to pack a 4,700mAh cell that will support 80W fast charging technology. This would make the phone charge up to 30% in around 5 minutes. It appears that some of these specs have been recycled from the original iQOO Neo 6 as it has the same battery and charging speed. As said above, the display is also the same.

Having said that, the company might as well keep the overall design similar. Who knows? As of now, we only know that the chipset itself is changing. With these details out, we expect the phone’s release to be near.

Design and Display

The OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G will be a rebranded version of the Realme 9 Pro 5G that launched a few months back in India. As you’d expect, there will be a trio of camera sensors on the back with a patterned design around the camera island. It will boast a punch-hole screen which will be a regular LCD panel.

OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5GOnePlus will indeed be going with an LCD panel for the Nord CE 2 Lite 5G, mainly to keep the cost low. The phone will have a 6.58-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a Full-HD+ resolution. It will have thin bezels on three sides, but at the bottom, it will have a visible chin.

It will come with camera features like Dual View Video and Nightscape mode.

Hardware and Software

The Nord CE 2 Lite 5G will pack the current popular budget 5G chipset – Qualcomm Snapdragon 695. For those unaware, it is an octa-core chipset that powers most of the new 5G budget phones from brands like Realme, Xiaomi, and others.

That chipset will be paired with 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Although it isn’t confirmed, we expect it to have a microSD card slot for additional storage. The phone will house a 5,000mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging.

Unfortunately, the phone will lack an alert slider, which is there on almost all OnePlus phones right now. As for security, it will have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The smartphone will boot on OxygenOS 11 and is expected to come with Android 11 out of the box.

Watch: Smartphone saves Soldier’s life from a Bullet in Ukraine

A new video has just surfaced that shows a soldier whose life was saved thanks to his smartphone. The soldier claimed that a stray bullet had hit the smartphone that he was carrying.

For those unaware, Russia and Ukraine are having active military clashes as the former continues its invasion of Ukraine. The situation has become a major international incident. But, it is unclear how things will play out. The short 45 second video was uploaded on YouTube, with the Ukrainian soldier showing his ally his smartphone. Looking at the clip, we can see the remains of a 7.62mm bullet lodged in the handset and the soldier telling his ally, who is shooting the video, that the “smartphone saved my life.”

Notably, the video of the soldier was shot in the trenches where we can also hear sounds of gunfire and explosions in the distance. As of right now, it is unclear which brand the smartphone belonged to, but it appears to be a Samsung model based on the type of protective cover it had.

Smartphone

Interestingly, this is not an isolated event, as smartphones have also saved the lives of people from bullets in the past as well. Back in 2016, a man from Afghanistan claimed that the Nokia 301 saved his life when a bullet lodged into the device (Via 91Mobiles). Similarly in 2012, a Nokia X2 owner also claimed that a stray bullet struck his phone when he was filming a fight between rebels.
