Oppo Reno7 Z 5G spotted on Geekbench with a Snapdragon chipset

A few days back, Oppo took wraps off the Reno7 series in the Indian market. The company launched the Reno7 and Reno7 Pro phones in the market. Now, another phone from the series dubbed Oppo Reno7 Z 5G has appeared on the Geekbench portal hinting at a sooner launch.

We already know that the Reno7 Z 5G carries the model number Oppo CPH2343. Now the device has passed Geekbench flaunting 689 single-core points and 1998 multi-core points.

Oppo Reno7 Z 5G

These scores are possible, thanks to an unknown octa-core SoC. The device has a processor codenamed “Holi”, which is believed to be a Snapdragon SoC, possibly the Snapdragon 480+ chipset. The chipset has the first six cores clocked at 1.80Hz and the last two cores clocked at 2.21GHz. Do not that the predecessor has a MediaTek Dimensity 800U chipset.

Apart from the chipset, the phone has 8GB of RAM and boots on Android 11 OS out of the box. The phone’s TUV Rheinland certification confirmed the presence of a 4,500mAh battery inside. It will be supported by a 33W fast charging support. This is a slight upgrade from the 4,310mAh battery and a 30W fast charging seen on the predecessor, Reno6 Z.

Oppo is yet to break the silence on the Oppo Reno7 Z 5G, but considering that the phone is appearing on certification sites more frequently, its release might be closer.

Motorola may be working on a foldable flip phone that bends backwards

Motorola, the brand behind the world’s first flip phone, had recently launched a new foldable smartphone that featured a clamshell design as a homage to the classic flip phones. But now, a new patent reveals that the company might be working on taking the flip phone evolution a step further.

Motorola

The new patent was spotted on WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) a couple of weeks ago and was spotted by PhoneArena. Looking at this patent, the foldable flip phone will have its display bend outwards rather than inward, which is the opposite of the typical clamshell design. In other words, this is a fresh new take in the flip phone category, with both the front and rear sides being covered by the display when folded.

Since its a foldable phone, the device features a flexible screen that can bend backwards from its hinge in the middle. Interestingly, Motorola is only offering a single camera module that is mounted on the upper half of the rear panel. This camera module is raised and will likely act as both the primary and front facing camera since one can just turn the smartphone around and use the folded display on the back to take a selfie.

Motorola

Keep in mind that this is still just a patent and we have no way of confirming if the American smartphone maker is actually working on such a device. However, with the the launch of the Moto Razr 2019, it is clear that the company is integrating its classic designs with cutting edge technology. So it wouldn’t arrive as a surprise if the next gen Razr features this display.

It was spotted with the same chipset as the one seen on Geekbench but had 6GB of RAM. The 6GB RAM variant could be its top-most configuration other than the 4GB RAM variant.

Its FCC certification confirmed three models – 21121119SG, 22011119UY, and 21121119VL. The middle model was seen with storage options like 64GB and 128GB. The listing revealed MIUI 12.5 and Android 11 OS out of the box.

Apple AirTags with disabled speakers appear abruptly on eBay & Etsy

Apple has made a lot of efforts to educate AirTags owners on measures to take to enhance their security and safety and prevent being stalked by someone using the AirTags. One of the important features that come with AirTags is the in-built speaker that beeps when it is separated or far away from its paired iPhone. A retailer briefly put out AirTags with disabled speakers for sale in Etsy and eBay, although its stay was brief, as the product was quickly taken down.apple airtag

Although the seller insisted that the AirTags with disabled speakers are not meant for stalking, it raises lots of questions given the negative uses that the AirTag has been put to by criminal minds. It may then become an easy tool for stalking when the speakers of these devices are then disabled.

One of the product listings seen on Etsy and eBay was Silent AirTag, which was priced at $77.50 before it was removed. The seller also issued a statement that indicated that the intent of the AirTags with disabled speakers was to cater to requests of buyers interested in fitting an AirTag to their bikes, pets, or power tools, hence the display. An eBay listing also stated that the disabled speaker will reduce the chance of a thief being notified of its hidden location, but this also gives a leeway for it to be used for criminal purposes.

In addition to the beeps, AirTags will also send automatic notifications if an unwanted device is following the user, in addition to the updated Personal Safety User Guide released by Apple recently. It remains to be seen how the AirTag can be deployed as a tracking device without it being transformed into a tool for easy deployment by criminals.

POCO M4 Pro 5G inches closer to launch with new “Coming Soon” teaser

The POCO M4 Pro 5G has been making rounds on the internet for a while now, with plenty of certifications and leaks concerning it popping up. However, it was only recently that POCO started dropping teasers officially to hype up the device ahead of its launch, with the latest one from today showing its rear.

Meta threatens to take down Facebook, Instagram in Europe if it can’t target ads

Meta is considering leaving Europe, along with Instagram and Facebook, if it can no longer exchange data from European users with the United States due to the Schrems II decision, the tech giant stated in an SEC filing.

Facebook currently shares data about European users with its US operations, applications, and data centers and says that stopping such transatlantic data transfers will have a devastating impact on its targeted online advertisements capabilities (via ITWire).

Schrems II is a verdict issued by the Court of Justice of the European Union (EU) back in July 2020 that invalidated the EU-US Data Protection Shield due to concerns around surveillance by US state and law enforcement agencies. Many companies that relied on the shield have been finding it difficult to manage the new verdict.

Facebook isn’t the sole affected by Schrems II as it is joined by every company that relied on basic data transfers to non-European countries. Some of the big names include Google, Microsoft, and Amazon whose cloud services form the backbone of most of the Western World’s Internet. The road to Schrems II will thus be long and slow as courts and industry navigate their way through the implications of the judgment.

Earlier, Google Analytics and Google Fonts had been taken to court where it was alleged that Google Fonts was sending personal data such as IP addresses to another service without permission and a valid reason to do so.
