Huawei Releases the World’s First Bluetooth and NFC Supported Digital Car Keys in China for its AITO M5 Smart Car

At the Huawei Winter Flagship Launch Event last week(Dec 23 2021), Huawei did not only release the Huawei P50 Pocket, the premium flagship flip-phone rival the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, but the Chinese tech giant has also launched the brand’s second electric hybrid SUV vehicle in China, called the Huawei AITO M5 Smart Car.

The Huawei AITO M5 is AITO’s first luxury smart electric plug-in hybrid SUV, a bold move by them in its venture into the Chinese electric vehicle market. Inspired by the Porsche Macan, its design is very sleek and modern, with a spacious interior to boot. The SUV was jointly developed by Huawei and along with another Chinese brand Seres, which is under the Chongqing Sokon conglomerate company.

However, the unique and highlighting feature of the Huawei AITO M5 smart car, is that it comes with Huawei’s own in-house operating system, HarmonyOS. If you are not aware of HarmonyOS, HarmonyOS main function is to provide seamless integration for Huawei IoT products which includes its smartphones, laptops, smartwatches and starting as of recent, for its smart cars as well!

In a press announcement recently, Mr Yu Chengdong, Senior Vice President of Huawei and CEO of Huawei Smart Car Division, mentioned that Huawei has developed the industry’s first Bluetooth and NFC supported digital car keys for its newly announced AITO M5 smart car.

Huawei-Digital-Car-Keys
Huawei Digital Car Keys on the Huawei Wallet App

Mr Yu explains that on HarmonyOS 2.0 supported smartphones, the digital smart car keys are located within the Huawei Wallet app. With the digital keys, you can do pretty much everything a pair of physical car keys do, without having to worry about misplacing the keys or finding the keys during an emergency. To illustrate the technology, the digital car keys use Bluetooth to unlock and lock the car from a distance away, and if Bluetooth does not work or the phone battery runs out, the car keys also support NFC(even without phone battery) for unlocking the car so you’ll still have access to the car even when Bluetooth is not working.

The NFC and Bluetooth encryption of the digital keys are also present in the smart car, and it is compliant with the China ICCE standard as well as the road safety and privacy of the car drivers and passengers. As of today, the digital car keys are only available on HarmonyOS 2.0 Huawei smartphones, however, Huawei is planning to add this functionality to its Huawei Watch 3 series too as it would be more convenient for drivers to unlock their cars with a twist of a wrist compared to taking your smartphone out and clicking a button.

Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge Roundup: Specs, Price, Launch Date

Xiaomi is all set to launch a smartphone dubbed Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge in India. The company has been teasing the features of the handset for the past few days. We have compiled all of them and more in this single article. Let’s check out what the latest phone from Xiaomi is all about.

Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus | Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge
Redmi Note 11 Pro+ | Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge

Introduction

Although Xiaomi India teases Xiaomi 11i as a brand new smartphone, we all know that it isn’t. MIUI code had already revealed that this device is nothing but a rebranded Redmi Note 11 Pro+, which debuted in China at the end of October.

For the unaware, the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ is almost identical to the Redmi Note 11 Pro. The only differences between the two are their battery capacity and charging speed. The Pro has a 5,160mAh battery with support for 67W fast charging as compared to a smaller 4,500mAh battery and a whopping 120W fast charging on the Pro+.

The Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge gets its name from its fast charging capability. Though MIUI code has confirmed the existence of vanilla Xiaomi 11i (Redmi Note 11 Pro) for India, we are not sure if it will make its way to the country alongside its bigger sibling on the same day.

Launch Date

The Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge is set to launch in India on January 6, 2022. The event will kickstart at 12 PM IST.

Interested readers can watch it on the company’s official YouTube channel. They can even keep updated with the event on the firm’s official Twitter handle.

Design

The Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge will feature a flat frame design like the newer iPhones. However, the frame will be of plastic instead of metal.

Further, It will have a matte glass panel on the rear. A giant rectangular camera module will sit on its top. But the number of lenses will be only three.

Finally, it will be available in four colors  – blue gradient, black, green, and purple. The official names of the first three colors are Pacific Pearl, Stealth Black, and Camo Green. The company is yet to reveal the name of the fourth hue as of writing this article.

Specifications

Since the Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge is a rebadged Redmi Note 11 Pro+, it should have the same set of specs.

The phone is expected to arrive with a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen supplied by Samsung Display. The panel will have a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels (FHD+), up to 120Hz refresh rate, up to 360Hz touch sampling rate, 1200 nits peak brightness, and  4,500,000:1 contrast ratio. The canvas will have support for the DCI-P3 color gamut and will sport a centered punch-hole.

The device will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 920 SoC paired with LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. Though It is tipped to come in a single 8GB + 128GB memory configuration, we anticipate at least one more variant.

As far as optics are concerned, the smartphone will house a triple camera setup on the back comprising of a 108MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide unit, and 2MP macro snapper. Whereas, on the front, it will feature a 16MP shooter for selfies and video calls.

On the connectivity front, the handset will have support for dual-SIM, 5G, dual-band WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GNSS, and NFC (not confirmed). As for ports, it will sport a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB Type-C port.

The device will include all the essential sensors like a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, accelerometer, 360° ambient light sensor, gyroscope, proximity sensor, compass, and infrared sensor. It will also have an x-axis linear vibration motor, dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support, and a MicroSD card slot.

Unlike the newly released Xiaomi 12 series that comes with Android 12-based MIUI 13, the Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge will ship with MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11.

Lastly, as mentioned earlier, the main highlight of this phone will be the support for 120W fast charging. The required charger will most likely be included in the retail box to fill up the handset’s dual-cell 4,500mAh battery in just 15 minutes.

Expected Price

Raghu Reddy, Chief Business Officer of Xiaomi India, has confirmed that the Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge will be priced between ₹25,000 and ₹30,000.

At this price, it will be not only the first 120W fast-charging smartphone in India but also the most affordable fastest charging handset in the country.

Realme 9 Pro 5G has been Recently Certified in Many Countries, Announcement of Launch Date Imminent

Realme is tipped to launch its Realme 9 series globally in early Q1 2022, some sources even say it might be launching in India as early as February 2022. Well, it is the start of the new year and upcoming new releases are now being officially certified on many countries’ product safety databases for brands to gear up for their respective launch events. In turn, it is no surprise that Realme and its Realme 9 series are no exception to this procedure.

Spotted first on the Indonesian electronics safety database, an upcoming Realme smartphone has been certified with the model number RMX3472. The same model number, RMX3472 then popped out on the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Council Committee (NBTC) website in Thailand, however this time the name was revealed on the NBTC database: Realme 9 Pro 5G. From the name, we can deduce that the Realme 9 Pro 5G will be the direct successor to last year’s Realme 8 Pro and in 2022, Realme is suiting the sequel with 5G connectivity.

Besides these two certification bodies, the smartphone was also spotted on EEC certification with the RMX3472 model number and the handset was recently also spotted on the Indonesian TKDN certification website. With many certifications ready to go, it seems like Realme is planning to announce the Realme 9 Pro 5G in many growing global smartphone markets, which include South Asian and Southeast Asian countries.

Another shocking revelation of the Realme 9 Pro 5G is that it was spotted with the model number RMX3471 instead on the India BIS certification database, a slight change in the last digit compared to RMX3472. This may be hinting Realme is releasing another variant of the Realme 9 Pro 5G exclusive to India, which may differ slightly to the global variant.

From previous leaks, besides the Realme 9 Pro, we also gathered that Realme will be launching 4 models in total for the Realme 9 series, namely the standard Realme 9, Realme 9 Pro, Realme 9 Pro Plus, and Realme 9i. It is expected to launch within this quarter and to come several key markets, which include India, Thailand and Indonesia.

Alleged ASUS Zenfone 9 screenshot reveals a secondary display, dual cameras, and new gestures

ASUS might be preparing for the launch of its upcoming 2022 flagships as just today, the ASUS ROG Phone 6 was seen in 2D renders and now, the Zenfone 9 has also arrived on the Internet.

Apparently, a screenshot of a Zenfone 9 phone has appeared and it reveals the phone’s key details. As per the screenshot, the upcoming ASUS Zenfone 9 will come with a back display. It means the phone will feature a secondary screen similar to the ROG Phone 5. However, it won’t be that fancy, rather it will be a tiny screen that may display time.

ASUS Zenfone 9

The phone seems to have a cleaner design. It looks to be taller and narrower, at least in the image. The secondary screen’s details are unknown at the moment. The phone features dual rear cameras similar to what we saw in the predecessor.

One of the phone’s useful features could be the back double-tap gesture. The smartphone may come with a double-tap feature similar to Apple iPhones, whereby double-tapping the back panel may perform actions like capturing screenshots or opening camera.

As ASUS is yet to announce the series officially, we advise readers to do take the aforementioned details with a grain of salt. Since the initial Zenfone 9 leaks seem to have arrived on the internet, we expect the company to tease the series soon. Until then, we’d have to rely on the rumours.

ASUS ROG Phone 6, ROG Phone 6 Pro appear in 2D renders; launch forthcoming

In March 2021, ASUS unveiled the ROG Phone 5 series comprising of the ROG Phone 5, 5 Pro, and 5 Ultimate. Later in August, the company launched the updated version of the phones dubbed ROG Phone 5s and 5s Pro. Now, ASUS seems to be gearing to launch this year’s gaming phones as new 2D renders(EqualLeaks) of the upcoming ASUS ROG Phone 6 and 6 Pro have arrived on the internet.

ASUS ROG Phone 6

The ASUS ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro look quite similar to the ROG Phone 5 devices. However, there’s a marginal change in cameras, secondary display, and the back panel’s graphics. The ROG Phone 6 series would be sporting a slightly different camera design. It will be a horizontal camera island with a triple camera system on both the 6 and 6 Pro.

Interestingly, the secondary display on the ROG Phone 6 would be bigger in comparison to the ROG Phone 5’s POMOLED display. Again, this time around, the screen will be exactly vertical unlike the slanted screen on the ROG Phone 5. Interestingly, one of the ROG 6 phones has a larger display and different back graphics to that of the other one. There’s also the Republic of Gamers branding at the bottom.

Apart from this, there isn’t anything to learn from the renders. But we can expect the upcoming ROG Phones to launch in the coming months considering that the ROG Phone 5 debuted in March 2021.

ASUS ROG Phone 5 Specifications

The ASUS ROG Phone 5 series come with a 6.78-inch Samsung Super AMOLED display. It has a Full-HD+ resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, and 300Hz touch sampling rate. The phones boast an in-display fingerprint scanner. The series has a 64MP + 13MP + 5MP triple camera system and a single camera at the front.

Inside, the ROG Phone 5, 5 Pro, and 5 Ultimate is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. The 5 and 5 Pro has up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB storage variants, while the 5 Ultimate also comes in an 18GB RAM option. The phones pack dual-battery support(3,000 + 3,000mAh) with a total cell capacity of 6,000mAh. The series supports 30W fast charging technology.

Xiaomi and OPPO can be fined ₹1,000 Crore ($134 million) for violating Indian Tax Laws

Previously we reported that the offices of Xiaomi and OPPO Chinese distribution partners were raided by the Income Tax Department on 21 December 2021.  The searches were carried out in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar, and Rajasthan.

Now, according to the Income Tax department, Mobile phone makers Xiaomi and OPPO can be fined ₹ 1,000 crores ($134 million) for violating the law pertaining to non-disclosure of related party transactions(tax evasion).

As per a report by the economic times, The IT department found that two major companies have made payments (remittances) in the nature of royalty, to and on behalf of its group companies located abroad, which aggregates to more than Rs.5500 crore ($738 million).

The IT department stated in its press release that “These companies had not complied with the regulatory mandate prescribed under the Income-Tax Act, 1961, for disclosure of transactions with associated enterprises. Such a lapse makes them liable for penal action under the Income-Tax Act, 1961, the quantum of which could be in the range of more than ₹ 1,000 crores ($134 million).”

One of the companies inflated its expenses by making payments on behalf of the associated enterprises, which led to the reduction of taxable profits of the Indian mobile handset manufacturing company. “Such an amount could be in excess of Rs.1400 crore ($188 million).” revealed the IT department in its press release.

Additionally, the department is also probing the two companies for alleged bogus borrowings of over Rs. 5,000 crore ($671 million). One of the companies utilized the services of another entity located in India but did not comply with the provisions of tax deduction at the source, which leaves them liable for Rs.300 crores ($40 million) in taxes (TDS).

The seized documents and electronics are still under scrutiny by the Income Tax Department as well as the Directorate of Enforcement, so it is still not clear what might become of this situation. But going by the press release of the IT department, Xiaomi and OPPO could potentially face penalties and legal action in the near future for various kinds of tax evasion practices.

Tesla Model 3 & Model Y receive price hike in China for the Rear Wheel Drive variant

Tesla has raised the pricing for certain electric vehicle models in China. The company’s official Chinese website has revealed that the pricing for the rear wheel drive variant of the Model 3 and Model Y has been increased.

Looking at the reformed prices, the Model 3’s rear wheel drive variant now costs around 265,652 Yuan (roughly 42,000 US Dollars), which marks an increase of 10,000 Yuan (roughly 1,575 US Dollars) over the original price. On the other hand, the price of the rear wheel drive version of the Model Y has also been raised to 301,840 Yuan (roughly 47,560 US Dollars), which is around 21,000 Yuan (roughly 3,320 US Dollars) higher than the previous price tag.

Tesla

For those unaware, the rear wheel drive versions are also the base variant of both EV models. Talking about the Model Y, it offers a 545 kilometer range on a single full charge and has a top speed of 217 km/h. It can even accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds. On the other hand, the American automobile giant’s Model 3 offers a top speed of 225 km/h, with a maximum range of 556 kilometers on a single full charge. It can go 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds.

Unfortunately, the official reason for the price hike is unknown as of right now. Although, it might be due to the ongoing chip shortage issue that has impacted various industries across the globe, including automobiles. Rising chip costs due to the growing demand for semiconductors have caused chipmakers to raise the prices as well. Other materials and parts shortages or components supply constraints might also be a factor. However, this is just speculation at the moment so take it with a pinch of salt.

Xiaomi reveals it sold over 2 million units of its Air-conditioners in 2021

Xiaomi Group partner and senior vice president Zhang Feng have announced a review of the brand’s air conditioner business for the year 2021. The VP disclosed that Xiaomi sold over 2 million units of its air-conditioners during the period under review spanning from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021.

Xiaomi Air-conditioners have turned out to be one of the brand’s popular products and this sales report buttresses that fact. The MIJIA Air conditioners were ranked as the top-selling brand on Jingdong (JD.com) in May 2021 with the brand selling over 4000 units, 15 times higher than the previous month’s sales.

Xiaomi has often retained a minimalist design in most of its products and the air-conditioner lineup is no exception. While they feature a minimalist design, the MIJIA Air-conditioner adopts Xiaomi’s new generation of the dual-hybrid fresh air system and its self-developed centrifugal turbocharging technology. The units are also capable of carrying out deep purification of indoor and outdoor air and then releasing fresh air through secondary pressurization.Xiaomi Air-conditioners

The air-conditioners also come with Xiaomi’s self-developed fresh air system technology that delivers a large fresh air volume of 40m³/h without expanding or re-opening holes, efficiently dilute indoor harmful gases, allow air to circulate quickly, and use clean oxygen-containing air with real-time replacement to solve closed air-conditioning. They are also equipped with a high-grade HEPA filter with 4 layers of deep purification bringing anti-bacterial and anti-viral capabilities, and thus, keep the indoor air fresh.

Apart from the wall-mounted air-conditioner, Xiaomi also has floor/standing air-conditioners that are portable enough to move around. These products would have also contributed to the overall sales. The brand will be looking to build on the successes of 2021 and so, we expect more air-conditioning products with innovative technology.
