Lava Z81

The highlight of the Lava Z81 is that it comes with an AI-based ‘Studio Mode’ on the front as well as rear cameras for portrait photography. It can be used to apply lighting effects like Splash, Stage Light, Stage Light Mono, and more.

The Lava Z81 features a 5.7-inch IPS display with 1440 x 720 pixels screen resolution, 282PPI pixel density, and 18:9 aspect ratio. Additionally, the display is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top.

Under the hood, the device is powered by MediaTek’s Helio A22 quad-core processor clocked at 2GHz. It is paired with either 2GB or 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It comes with a 13-megapixel camera sensor and an LED flash on both, the rear side as well as the front side.

Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, and GPS + GLONASS. The phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box and is powered by a 3,000mAh battery.

Huawei responds to the Mate 20 Pro’s screen-related issues

Huawei recently launched its Mate 20 Pro flagship smartphone in China and soon after the device went on sale, users started complaining about the issues related to the phone’s display. Many users are complaining about an issue which shows yellowish or greenish spots on the edge of the display.

It appears when the background is dark grey or in some cases when it’s whiteish. If your device is affected, you’ll see yellowish or greenish color around the display’s edges under weak lighting. What earlier seemed like a minor issue affecting a few users, has now escalated as the number of affected users keep growing.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro Screen Bleeding Issue

With the number of users affected by the issue increasing, the Chinese manufacturer has finally responded. In a statement, Huawei said:

The Mate 20 Pro uses an industry-leading flexible OLED screen featuring special design curved edges for an enhanced visual experience and holding comfort. This may lead to slight discolouration when viewed from different angles. In extremely dim lighting conditions, when the screen brightness is too low, or when using dark wallpapers, these differences can be exaggerated. If the colour cast affects your normal use, take your phone to an authorized Customer Service Center for assistance.

Some reports suggest that the shift becomes more prominent over time and speculate that the issue is related to the glue that Huawei uses for the display, and hence many are calling it ‘#gluegate’. However, the company has not acknowledged this.

It seems that the company is trying to avoid taking responsibility by saying that it’s a normal color shift that appears under specific conditions. However, it’s pretty clear that the issue is much bigger than what the company is saying.

The issue doesn’t seem to be related to color shifting because not all users are affected by this. Many users have pointed out that the issue appears on the device that comes with a display panel from LG Display while the units packing BOE’s display panel are fine.

While the company mentions that those who are unhappy with the screen seek help from Huawei’s service centers, it has not specified what steps it’ll take to fix the issue or if the company will fix the issue or replace the device. We just hope that Huawei is currently reviewing the matter and address this matter soon.

Samsung Galaxy F name for foldable phone tipped; Details surface ahead of next week’s rumored preview

Samsung will be holding the Samsung Developers Conference 2018 on Nov. 7 and Nov. 8. The South Korean company’s first foldable phone is expected to get showcased behind closed doors for select audience including investors. Fresh information coming from South Korea reveals that the company may call it Galaxy F. The letter F could refer to foldable.

It is speculated that SM-F900U is the model number of the Samsung Galaxy F foldable smartphone. The company is reportedly testing the smartphone in the U.S. with software build F900USQU0ARJ5. Variants such as SM-F900F and SM-F900N could belong to the European and Asian regions of the Galaxy F foldable phone. This indicates that the smartphone will be made available in the global markets.

The smartphone is tipped to feature a primary display of 7.3 inches and a secondary screen of 4.6 inches. When folded, the larger display that remains in the inside with become inactive. However, its contents could be visible on the secondary smaller screen on the outside. This shows that the Galaxy F foldable phone could be used a tablet as well as a smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy Foldable Smartphone Prototype

To prevent any possibilities of damage caused due to folding mechanism, the Galaxy F’s hinge is equipped with a gear that allows the phone to fold slowly. Also, there will be some amount of space between the two halves of the inner display to avoid any direct impact.

The South Korean manufacturer will reportedly produce 1 million units of the smartphone in the first year. Its mass production is expected to start by this month. As of this writing, there is no information available on its specifications. Rumors have it that the Galaxy F may carry an inbuilt storage of 512 GB.

There is no concrete evidence available on the launch of the Galaxy F smartphone. Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy S10 series at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February 2019. The Galaxy F may get unveiled after the launch Galaxy S10 phones.

FlexPai

Samsung has been working on its first foldable phone since many years and finally its arrival seems near. Flex Pai by Royole Technologies that was announced earlier this week has bagged the title of world’s first foldable smartphone. Apart from Samsung, many major brands like Huawei, Lenovo and LG are also rumored to be announced their foldable phones in 2019.

Lenovo Z5 Pro vs Nokia 7.1 Plus vs Xiaomi Pocophone F1: Specs Comparison

In a smartphones world which struggles to be innovative, upper midrange phones under €300 are slowly conquering the market as they allow saving money even though they provide amazing performances. Lenovo Z5 Pro was unveiled yesterday as the cheapest slider phone ever, and the fact that the company launched a so innovative device with upper-midrange specs should make you realize how much important midrange devices are now. In this comparison, we will compare it with Nokia 7.1 Plus (known as Nokia X7 in China) and Xiaomi Pocophone F1, two other upper-midrange devices with an awesome quality-price ratio.

Design

Probably you already understood which device wins the design comparison. It is the Lenovo Z5 Pro as it features an innovative slider design. Given that the front camera and sensors are included into a pop-up slider, the display reaches almost 100 percent of screen-to-body ratio without even needing a notch. It has a bigger display than its opponents even though its overall dimensions are not higher. At the second place, there is Nokia 7.1 Plus with its glass and metal design, while Xiaomi Pocophone F1 is definitely one of the less attracting devices because it has a classic polycarbonate design which the company opted for in order to cut costs.

Display

Lenovo Z5 Pro is again the winner when it comes to the quality of the display. It is the only to feature a Super AMOLED panel with richer colors, which also integrates an in-display fingerprint reader. Further, it does not have a notch and it is fully borderless: these qualities make it even more comfortable despite it is the biggest display of the trio.

Hardware & Software

Xiaomi Pocophone F1 wins the hardware challenge because it has a flagship-level hardware which has nothing to envy to the best phones in the market. It comes with a powerful Snapdragon 845 chipset and up to 8 GB of RAM, and it is the perfect smartphone for gaming and for the most demanding activities. Lenovo Z5 Pro and Nokia 7.1 Plus are at the same level with their upper-midrange hardware side, but only the latter has a micro SD slot. While Lenovo Z5 Pro and Xiaomi Pocophone F1 have customized UIs (ZUI an MIUI), Nokia 7.1 Plus is part of the Android One program with a stock UI and faster updates.

Camera

The camera department I like more is the one of Lenovo Z5 Pro with four cameras in total. But, at least on the paper, Nokia 7.1 Plus seems to have a better rear camera than Lenovo Z5 Pro, so consider this if you do not care so much about selfies. Xiaomi Pocophone F1 is the most disappointing one when it comes to cameras.

Battery

With the biggest battery boasting a capacity of 4000 mAh, Xiaomi Pocophone F1 surely has a much longer battery life than Lenovo Z5 Pro and Nokia 7.1 Plus. It is one of the longest lasting flagship phones and the battery is its main advantage alongside its processor.

Price

The device I would personally pick is Xiaomi Pocophone F1 with its €300/$342 global price (appr.), a wonderful hardware side, and a long-lasting battery. But if you care about having a good design and a great camera, then you should not grab a unit of this device and choose Nokia 7.1 Plus or Lenovo Z5 Pro instead, which carry a price tag of about €300/$342 and €250/$285 respectively (in China).

Royole Flexpai Hands on video appears: Up-close with the world’s first foldable phone

The foldable smartphone that has long been anticipated was finally released but with some bit of surprise. We had expected either Samsung or LG or even Huawei to be the first to release a model. The Microsoft Surface tablet was also tipped to be among the early birds but that wasn’t the case. Instead, a relatively unknown Chinese OEM named Royole Technology became the first company to launch a true foldable phone – the Royole Flexpai.Royole FlexPai

The device was announced in a ceremony in China a few days ago and just yesterday more details of the specifications were revealed. A hands-on video of the Flexpai foldable phone has now appeared online, giving us a clear view of the device. The video also shows the device in action both in the tablet mode and when folded. However, we must point out that the design looks quite rough, and may still receive some fine tuning before the final release. There is no doubt that this is still a concept that may take a while before going commercial. For one, Qualcomm is yet to officially announce the Snapdragon 8150 chipset and that may not find is way into smartphones until next year. However, it is an impressive design that we hope will speed up the release of more foldable hones just the same way the Mi Mix gave birth to the full-screen phone design trend.

As a reminder, the  Royole FlexPai sports a 7.8-inch AMOLED screen with a 1920 x 1440 resolution and a 4:3 aspect ratio. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon 800 series processor which is clocked at 2.8GHz while an Adreno 640 GPU powers the graphics.

It also packs a 16MP + 20MP dual camera set up at the rear with a f/1.8 aperture size and optical image stabilization. The device packs a 3,800mAh battery with support for 5V/5A fast charging via their proprietary Ro-Charge technology. It also has support for dual SIM (nano only), storage expansion (256GB max), Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, and Wi-Fi. Supported LTE bands are 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 12, 34, 38, 39, 40, and 41. There is a USB-C port for charging and audio. There’s no word yet on its release.

Samsung Galaxy S10 may offer higher screen space by killing iris scanner

Samsung had introduced iris scanner feature on the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 smartphone in 2016. Since then, the South Korean has been offering the feature on its Galaxy S and Note series of flagship phones. Fresh report reveals that the company may axe the feature on the upcoming Galaxy S10 in a bid to offer higher screen-to-body ratio.

Samsung is rumored to introduced three variants of Galaxy S10 in early 2019. Fresh information coming from South Korea reveals that the company has reportedly decided to axe the iris scanner from all the three variants of the Galaxy S10 phone.

The Galaxy A7 (2018) that was announced recently is equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. It is speculated that the most affordable edition of the Galaxy S10 may come with the same kind of biometric recognition feature. Contradicting rumors suggest that it could be equipped with an optical under-display fingerprint reader. The other two advanced models of the Galaxy S10 are expected to feature ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor supplied by Qualcomm.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Display

Even though numerous smartphone OEMs have launched phones with notched screens, Samsung has remained on its notch-less 18.5:9 Infinity Display design for its smartphones. The Galaxy S10 variants may feature in-display front-facing camera that will allow them to offer higher screen space. A recent report had revealed that the Galaxy S10+ may offer a screen-to-body ratio of 93.4 percent. Samsung is also rumored to axe 3.5mm audio jack feature from the Galaxy S10 series.

In related news, Samsung has recently announced GM1 48-megapixel sensor and GD1-32-megapixel sensor. The mass production of the new camera sensor will begin by the end of this year. Hence, it is being speculated that these sensors may end up on the Galaxy S10 series arriving next year. At least one of the three S10 variants is expected to feature a triple camera unit.

Do you think that removing the iris scanner from the Galaxy S10 could be a good move? Share us your views by posting your comments below.

Report: Global smartphone sales fell by 3%, Xiaomi and Huawei still on ascent in Q3 2018

In a new report from Counterpoint, it is found that Global smartphone sales have fallen for the first time up to 3% in the Q3 2018. The global shipments of the smartphones have reduced to 386.8 million units. After growing by an average of 16% from the past five years, the smartphone market is witnessing a slowdown with 1% overall decline this year.

Many reasons can be cited as the root cause of the slowdown. Few of them are the slowing global economy, rising trade tariffs, rising price of phones, etc. Despite Xiaomi and Huawei, all other big brands such as Samsung, Apple, LG and others have witnessed a decline in sales.

“Many markets have already hit a saturation point for new smartphone demand and are dependent on replacement demand,” Counterpoint research director Tom Kang wrote in the report. “Buying a more expensive device results in extending the length of replacement cycles, especially when your earnings are limited.”

smartpphone sales fell

In total, Samsung shipped 72.3 million smartphones and ranked first, but it has declined 13% on the basis of year-on-year stats. Apple has maintained a steady increase of 0.1% in the total tally. Huawei, Xiaomi and HMD have witnessed considerable growth. Notably, Huawei shipments rose to 52 million units by 33% on the year-on-year basis. Xiaomi garnered 35.7 million sales with an increase of 25% on a YoY basis.

HMD global aka Nokia has increased its shipments volume by 71%. On the other hand, Motorola and LG both have witnessed a double-digit dip this year. Apple remained steady and sold 170.8 million iPhones which are half a per cent more than the last year.

Some brands are doing well in the international market rather than the domestic. In the same group, Xiaomi has registered a growth of 83% in the international market while it hit 16% in the domestic market.

We can say it’s a mixed bag of ups and downs with overall sales fell by 3% this quarter.

Tribit XBoom Bluetooth Speaker Review

Tribit XBoom Bluetooth Speaker is so popular recently as the affordable price and amazing sound quality. We got a Tribit XBoom Speaker days ago, and let’s take a look.

Tribit Xboom

The color of the packaging for the Tribit XBoom Speaker is orange and white that looks straightforward. There are a speaker, a traditional USB charging cable and a user manual. Taking the items out of the package should be careful, because the charging cable is inconspicuous that it may be discarded with the packaging box. Tribit XBoom is fueled by 5200mAh battery. Its music play time is up to 20 hours and charging time is about four hours with 5V/2A. It is standard features of the Bluetooth speakers.

With the cylindrical design, there are three operation buttons on the front of the speaker, and it looks special and lovely. The first button from top to bottom is to increase the volume, and the third button is to decrease the volume. Press the middle button once, the round button, to play and pause, twice to skip the song and three times to back to the last song. On the front side, it has a small Tribit logo. It has a vertical bar made from silicone material on the back side, accommodating some critical hardwares. The top is the power button, lighting up when the speaker is on. Following are four tiny indicators to show the battery status. Below are the Bluetooth switch and XBASS button. After the Bluetooth button lighting up, you can connect your device to the Tribit XBoom Speaker and enjoy the music without headsets. Turning on the XBASS button will boost the thumps. Next is the silicone flap covering aux-in port, however, it is a little bit hard to open the flap. There is a silicone material strap on the top of the speaker attached by a screw post.

It is good that the speaker’s sound quality is better than some of the goods that cost more than it. This $70 speaker is not disappointed. We use it to play lyric song and dynamic dance song to make a test. The performance of playing lyric song is not bad that the speaker actually makes me feel like I was in the song’s scene, while some slight noise is produced in the higher pitched. For the dynamic dance song, the thumps are boosted after turning on the XBASS mode. Though it is too stimulating for me, people who like the thumps will like the speaker which performance is amazing.

Tribit XBoom is a great speaker, having affordable price and high cost performance. It is a good choice if you just want to have an amateur but good sound quality Bluetooth speaker.
