Nokia 3.1 Android 8.1 Oreo update is now available

HMD Global had announced the Nokia 3.1 handset alongside other phones such as Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 2.1. The Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 3.1 Android Oreo smartphones that come preinstalled with Android 8.0 Oreo. HMD Global has now released Android 8.1 Oreo update to the Nokia 3.1 handset.

The Android 8.1 Oreo update for the Nokia 3.1 weighs 1.12 GB and it comes with the latest security patch for the month of September. The September month security patch has been also made available for Nokia 8 Sirocco handset in India.

Since the software upgrade rollout has just begun, all the users of Nokia 3.1 may not be able to see the update. The 8.1 Oreo update for Nokia 3.1 has started in India. Soon, it will be made available across the world. The latest Oreo update brings a refreshed power menu and an updated Settings menu. The update includes Bluetooth Battery Percentage and improved system ability.

As far as Nokia 5.1 is concerned, it is still running on Android 8.1 Oreo whereas the Nokia 2.1 is preloaded with Android Nougat. Android 8.1 Oreo is not the only major software planned for these devices. The Finnish firm has already confirmed that these devices will be provided with Android 9 Pie update later this year.

The Nokia 3.1 features a polycarbonate chassis and aluminum frame. It houses an 18:9 aspect ratio IPS LCD display of 5.2 inches that carries support for HD+ resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. The MediaTek MT6750 chipset powers the phone. The 16 GB and 32 GB models of the Nokia 3.1 respectively features 2 GB and 3 GB of RAM. It has a rear camera of 13-megapixel and a front-facing camera of 8-mgepixel. The handset is packed with 2,990mAh battery.

The first Google Pixel 3 official teaser hits but there’s nothing new

Ahead of the October 9 launch event for the Pixel 3 and 3 XL, Google has started releasing teasers of the expected launch. The Pixel 3 and its bigger sibling has been the subject of several leaks. So, you shouldn’t be surprised that Google’s first teaser isn’t very rich in content. Not that we expect the company to release so many details, anyway.

The Pixel 3 teaser should rank as one of the simplest we have set our eyes on in a long while. It is just a big number “3” alongside a “Get the scoop” sign-up button to get updates of what Google has got in store. If you’ve already signed up for updates from the Google Store like we did last year, you won’t have to sign up again. You’ll only see the message: “Looks like you’ve already enrolled for updates from the Google Store. Be on the lookout for some news from us on Oct. 9“.

The Pixel 3 XL is expected to pack a 6.2-inch display with a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels and 494ppi while the Pixel 3 will have a 5.5-inch display. Both models will be powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM. At the rear, the models are said to still have a single 12MP sensor while selfies will be taken care of by an 8MP shooter. The Pixel 3 XL will also get its juice from a 3,430mAh battery while the Pixel 3 will have a battery capacity of around 3,000mAh. Apart from the Pixel 3 models, Google is expected to also unveil several products. We’ll have to wait until the launch to get the full details of what Google has in store for us.

Huawei ARS-AL00 / TL00 TENAA images reveal leather back, massive 7.12-inch display

Huawei has recently launched the Honor 8X and Honor 8X Max with waterdrop notch display design. Two variants of an upcoming Huawei phone with model numbers ARS-AL00 and ARS-TL00 have cropped up on TENAA with waterdrop notch design. What’s interesting about this handset is that one of its variants feature a leather back. The specifications and images that have surfaced through the TENAA listing of Huawei ARS-AL00 / ARS-TL00 bears resemblance with Honor 8X Max.

According to the TENAA listing of the Huawei ARS-TL00, it measures 177.57 x 86.24 x 8.48 and it houses a huge screen of 7.12 inches. The handset is slightly thicker than the Honor 8X Max that measures 8.1mm in thickness.

The newly spotted Huawei handset also features a 7.12-inch IPS LCD display that produces Full HD+ resolution of 2244 x 1080 pixels. Its color variants are brown, black and white. It also weighs 210 grams like the Honor 8X Max.

The Huawei ARS-AL00 / ARS-TL00 features 1.95 GHz octa-core processor that is couple with 4 GB of RAM. It is preinstalled with Android 8.1 Oreo OS. For photography, it is equipped with 16-megapixel + 2-megapixel rear-mounted dual camera setup and a front-facing camera of 8-megapixel.

The internal storage versions of ARS-AL00 model are 64 GB and 128 GB. On the other side, the ARS-TL00 model has 128 GB of native storage. The ARS-AL00 / ARS-TL00 is also equipped with a microSD card slot. The back panel of the phone features a fingerprint scanner. The handset is fueled by 4,900mAh battery.

The ARS-AL00 model is in white whereas the ARS-TL00 sports a leather rear. The vertical dual camera on the rear has AI Camera mentioned next to it. In terms of specifications and design, the Huawei ARS-AL00 / ARS-TL00 resembles with the Honor 8X Max. It is speculated that the handset could end up as a Huawei Nova model.

Apart from Huawei ARS-AL00 / ARS-TL00 handset, TENAA has also certified variants of Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and the alleged Mate 20 Porsche Design. The TENAA listings of the Mate 20 series are yet to be populated with specs and images.

It will improve the Xiaomi’s different internal functions and will help strengthen its core. It will increase the overall employee sustainability by bringing in some model to sustain the young talent and improve employee satisfaction. While, the other department will focus on the company’s each business unit progress and help monitor the company’s development strategy. Xiaomi has also added 10 new business units including hardware units, internet services unit, e-commerce unit and a technology platform.

As of now, it looks quite a good on papers, but the actual results of the Xiaomi’s restructuring will follow after some time. Xiaomi CEO has emphasised a lot on the employee sustainability, according to him “Without experienced soldiers, there is no succession. Samsung schedules “4x fun” Galaxy event on October 11, could launch a phone with four cameras

Samsung has scheduled an event in Malaysia on October 11, where the company is expected to launch a new smartphone under its Galaxy lineup. Samsung promises that at the “4x fun” Galaxy event, it’ll announce a device that “brings more ways to express yourself than ever before.”

The event will also be live-streamed on Samsung’s website. The event invite says, “Samsung’s newest Galaxy device is bringing more ways to express yourself than ever before. Capture the fun with Samsung as the company celebrates the launch of the new device with A Galaxy Event on October 11, 2018.”

While it’s not revealed what the “4x fun” in the event invite means but if we are to believe leakster Ice Universe, who has been reliable when it comes to Samsung-related leaks, then the South Korean giant is all set to launch a phone with four cameras. Ince Universe hinted this development earlier this month.

And yes, all the four cameras will be placed on the back side, clarifies the leakster upon questioning about the placement of the cameras. Overall, the smartphone could have five or more cameras if we take into account the front-facing camera as well.

However, these are just rumors at this point in time and there’s no substantial proof of this quad-camera smartphone yet. There are speculations suggests that the phone could be a part of Galaxy A-series but the A-lineup usually gets introduced ahead of the S-series flagship launch.

On the other hand, Samsung CEO has revealed that the company is planning to provide details on its first foldable smartphone before the end of the year. So, this could also be related to that but it’s highly unlikely that the event is related to the foldable smartphone.

To know for sure what the company has up its sleeve for “4x fun” Galaxy launch, we’ll have to wait till October 11th.

Huami’s upcoming Amazfit wearable device to feature NFC, launching on September 17 (UPDATED)

UPDATE: Huami has also announced that it has partnered with Territory Studio for the upcoming Amazfit smartwatch. Given that Territory Studio has expertise in motion design, visual effects and digital experiences, both the companies could have collaborated for the UI/UX on the smartwatch.

Huami, the Xiaomi-based company which recently got listed on the New York Stock Exchange, is all set to launch a new smartwatch under its Amazfit lineup. The company has scheduled a launch event in China that will take place on 17th September.

While not much is known about the upcoming wearable device, Huang Wang, Founder and CEO of Huami Technology, has now suggested that the upcoming Amazfit wearable device will come with NFC support. He also said that the company is serious about NFC technology and will continue working on it.

The teaser poster of the launch event was earlier posted on the company’s official Weibo page with text indicating that the event is related to the company’s third-year anniversary. Huami has already published a product page on its China website with a countdown for the commencement of the launch event.

A couple of days ago, the retail box, pricing information, and a sketch of the upcoming Amazfit smartwatch were leaked online. The leaked retail box shows an all-white packaging with the company’s logo on top along with the Amazfit X name inscribed, raising the possibility of the device being named Amazfit X.

The leaked sketch suggests a round watch face without any buttons on either side. We can see a microphone icon in the sketch, hinting that it’ll have a built-in microphone and a speaker with support for voice assistant.

Meizu 16X to pack IMX380+IMX350 dual Sony cameras with ArcSoft tech; Launch on Sept. 19

Meizu is all set to announce another version of the Meizu 16 with some mid-level specs at lower price. Meizu 16X is launching on September 19th, 2:30pm Beijing time (6:30 PM GMT) at an event in the Beijing Performing Arts Center. It is confirmed to come with IMX380+IMX350 dual Sony camera setup having ArcSoft technology pitching for better photo quality. It is the same camera module that is present in the already launched, Meizu 16 and Meizu 16 plus.

Today, Meizu took to Weibo to officially announce some of the specs and launching date of the Meizu 16X. It is the low end version of the Meizu 16, with Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC (confirmed by CEO, Jack Wong) onboard coupled with 6GB of RAM, while, the Meizu 16 carries Snapdragon 845 SoC onboard. Currently, it’s not clear, whether the device will come only in 6GB RAM variant or there will be some other variants too. It is also touted as “the best Snapdragon 710 model” by the Huang Zhang, founder of Meizu tech. The new ArcSoft technology in Meizu 16X will improve the image quality under low-light conditions with dual cameras. Further, it will improve the virtual optical zoom and depth-sensing camera capabilities for increased detailing in the images.

Apart from these, Meizu 16X carries fully metallic body with hidden antenna strip on the back along with rear camera and LED flash. Meizu has used the same Meizu 16 display of 6.0 inches with a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels having 18:9 aspect ratio. It will have battery with the total capacity of 3100mAh along with the fast charging technique. Meizu 16X will come in three different colors – black, ceramic white and matte gold. Couple of weeks ago, Meizu 16X appeared on AnTuTu benchmarks and TENAA, a certification agency in China, giving us details about its specs.

Honor 7S will be available in blue, black and gold colors having same 2GB of RAM and 16GB of Internal Storage.

In order to compete it against the devices from Xiaomi and Samsung, Honor has added quad-core MediaTek MT6739 SoC in the Honor 7S. Further, it packs 5.45 inch FullView display having resolution of 1220×720 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio, it is protected by a 2.5D curved glass. It has screen-to-body ratio of 73 percent. In order to improve the graphics performance, Honor has added a PowerVR Rogue GE8100 GPU. There’s a 2 GB of RAM with 16 GB on board memory and it can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card.

In connectivity there’s 4G VoLTE support, Dual-SIM, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS, GLONASS, FM Radio, Wi-Fi b/g/n, and micro-USB charging. Honor 7S is running Android 8.1 Oreo atop EMUI 8.1 skin. It also hosts feature to protect your eyes from the blue light.

Realme sends out invites for an event on September 26 and 27, could launch Realme 2 Pro

Realme has sent out media invites for an event that is scheduled to take place on 26th and 27th September. While the company has not revealed what it plans to launch, it’s likely that the Realme 2 Pro will be launched at the event.

The event invitation reads “We are back” and “2 surPrise you” where the letters “2”, “P”, “r” and “o” are in red color, highlighting the word “2 Pro”. Also, the company had earlier revealed that it’ll launch the Realme 2 Pro by the end of September.

Last month, Realme, which recently started operating as an independent brand after its split from Oppo, had launched the Realme 2 smartphone which the company says is not a successor of the Realme 2 launched earlier this year.

The Realme 2 Pro will be an upgrade over the Realme 2 and could feature a Full HD+ display along with a new upgraded processor or MediaTek Helio P60 (same as Realme 1), coupled with up to 6GB of RAM. Just like the Realme 2, we are expecting to see a dual-camera setup as well as a fingerprint sensor on the Realme 2.

The recently launched Realme 2 features a 6.2-inch HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio and 88.8 percent screen-to-body ratio. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. It packs 3GB/4GB RAM with 32GB/64GB internal storage and has a dedicated microSD card slot for expanding the storage capacity.

Coming to the optics, the phone has a dual rear camera setup that includes a 13-megapixel primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor with f/2.4 aperture. On the front, there is an 8-megapixel sensor with a fixed focus, f/2.2 aperture lens. The front-facing camera sensor also enables the Face Unlock feature.

It supports dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB with OTG support, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Running on ColorOS 5.1 based on Android Oreo operating system, the device is fuelled by a 4,230mAh battery.

Moto G7 and G7 plus logos leak, fueling rumours the G7 Play may have been cancelled

Lenovo’s Motorola isn’t going to launch the Moto G7 until next year but the model is gradually cropping up in leaks quite often. Just recently, a concept render of the device was shared online. Right now, the logo of the next-gen models has been spotted online. The logos are for the Moto G6 and G7 Plus. That of the G7 Play is conspicuously missing. If the latest rumour is any thing to go by, the Moto G7 Play may likely not get launched next year.

The Moto G6 Play this year only had a bigger battery over its predecessor which is sort of a disappointment. Perhaps, Motorola is trying to trim down the G series products lineup but we can’t say for sure. This could as well be a rumour.

It is too early to start guessing the specs the Moto G7 and G7 Plus will eventually pack. However, it is safe to assume they will have midrange Snapdragon chipsets, elongated 18:9 displays, and, hopefully, will eschew the notch again.

Honor Band 4 unboxing pictures: Better than the Mi Band 3?

It has been one week since Huawei’s Honor brand launched the Honor Band 4 and Band 4 Running version but the dust generated by the stunning wearables is yet to die down. The Band 4 has now been unboxed by the guys at MyDrivers and we thought it wise to bring you the pictures of what may soon be a fast-selling wearable device.

The unboxing pictures show us the design from all angles including the straps and other accessories like the charging apparatus. As you already know, the Honor Band 4 comes with a full-touch coloured AMOLED screen which sets the fitness tracker from its rivals. A coloured screen separates it from the likes of Mi Band 3 which features a black and white screen even though it is OLED.

The display is 0.95 inches with a resolution of 240x120pixels. The screen is covered with a 2.5D curved glass which is more scratch resistant than plastic. The high definition colour screen brings out the beauty of the device’s user interface. The resolution ensures the displayed content is still clear and readable outdoors, even under the sun. The device also comes with auto brightness adjustment at night (night mode). This mode reduces consumption and protects the health of the eyes. Smartbands are basically about their displays so it is no surprise Huawei revamped the Band 4 display. The device doesn’t come with any button. There is a home button on the screen for navigation.

The Honor Band 4 is available in three different colours according to the colour of the straps namely; Black, Blue and Pink. Talking about the straps, Huawei teamed up with the French Academy of Aesthetics to come out with an attractively designed textured strap. The strap is dynamic and rhythmic, more in line with the sporting temperament of young people.

Asa reminder, the fitness tracker comes with NFC and supports contactless payment. The band also keeps track of steps, swimming speed, calories burnt, and distance covered in addition to monitoring the heart rate. The wearable is waterproof up to 50 metres and it comes with a light weight of just 23 grams. This despite packing a durable battery which Honor claims can last up to 14 days and 6 days if continuous heart rate tracking is turned on.

The Honor Band 4 comes priced at just 199 yuan (~$29) which is almost similar to the Mi Band 3’s starting price. So, it is a question of whether the Band 3 can compete with the Honor Band 4. This sure looks more classy than Xiaomi’s. Check out the Honor Band 4 pictures gallery from below.

Galaxy Note8 gains support for Super Slow-motion recording and AR Emojis in latest update

A new update is rolling out to the Galaxy Note8 that brings two interesting features from this year’s flagships to the 2017 flagship. The new update also brings September’s security patch.

The two new features are super slow-motion recording and AR Emojis. The former lets you record videos at 960fps in 720p for 0.2s if you own the Galaxy S9 or 960fps in 720p for 0.4s for the Galaxy Note9. We can’t confirm if the Galaxy Note8 has that of the S9 or the Note9.

AR Emoji lets you create emojis based on an avatar of yourself created by the phone. This is Samsung‘s take on Apple‘s Animoji that launched with the iPhone X last year. The update is a little over 700MB is rolling out gradually. It has started arriving on devices in France but may take a few days before other regions receive it.
