Along with the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, US-based tech giant Apple also announced iPhone XR, which is the cheapest smartphone of the three that were unveiled at the launch event in California, USA.

The Apple iPhone XR comes with an aluminum body and glass back. Unlike the iPhone XS lineup, the new iPhone XR features a 6.1-inch LCD display with a screen resolution of 1792 x 828 pixels, offering a pixel density of 326ppi.

Apple iPhone XR (Black)

The company is calling the display as ‘Liquid Retina’ and claims that it is the most advanced LCD display in the industry. It features Apple‘s True Tone technology that is claimed to offer a more natural viewing experience.

While the iPhone XS series features 3D Touch, the iPhone XR lacks support for 3D Touch. However, the company has introduced Haptic Touch, which is similar to the one introduced in the MacBook trackpad.

Just like the iPhone XS and XS Max, the iPhone XR too is powered by the latest Apple A12 Bionic 7nm chipset. Apple says that the chipset unlocks new experiences for games, photography, video editing and graphics-intensive apps while still offering great battery life. It comes in three storage options — 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB.

Apple iPhone XR Camera

Coming to the camera configuration, the phone comes equipped with a single 12-megapixel sensor at the back, with a wide-angle lens and optical image stabilizer (OIS), same as the iPhone XS. On the front side, it has the same 7-megapixel True-Deth camera and comes with Face ID support that now unlocks the phone through facial recognition faster than ever. The camera also has support for Portrait Mode that enables you to take images with bokeh effect.

All the iPhone models announced this year comes with IP67 ratings and thus, the iPhone XR is also water resistant. This too runs on the latest iOS 12 operating system. As for the battery capacity, Apple claims that the battery on iPhone XR lasts one and a half hour more than the iPhone 8 Plus.

The iPhone XR comes in multiple color options, including Black, White, Blue, Coral (Pink), Yellow, and Product Red. It is priced at $749 and will be available for pre-order from October 19 and the company will start shipping the iPhone XR from October 26.

Apple iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max with Super Retina display and A12 Bionic chipset launched

After months of leaks, Apple has finally announced its latest iPhone lineup. At a launch event in California, the tech giant unveiled three new iPhones — Apple iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max along with the iPhone XR. Among the three new phones, the iPhone XS and XS Plus are the successors of the iPhone X that was launched last year.

Apple iPhone XS and XS Max

The iPhone XS features a 5.8-inch display while the XS Plus has a 6.5-inch display. The company is calling this OLED HDR screen as Super Retina, which provides a pixel density of 458ppi. Apple also says that it has 60 percent greater dynamic range for better colors. It is also a 3D Touch pressure-sensitive screen.

Both the phones are powered by Apple A12 Bionic chipset, which is manufactured using the 7-nanometer process and promises to launch apps 30 percent faster than 2017 iPhones. The SoC has six-core CPU, quad-core GPU, and a dedicated neural engine. The company says that the new chipset can handle five trillion AI operations per second and should provide real-time machine learning.

Apple A12 Bionic Chipset Features

It also comes with an improved camera configuration. There are two camera sensors on the back side, which includes 12-megapixel primary lens with f/1.8 aperture and a 12-megapixel secondary telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture for lossless 2X zoom. On the front side, there’s a 7-megapixel snapper with f/2.2 aperture, coupled with IR camera to enable portrait mode. The Face ID feature, which unlocked the phone through facial recognition, also works faster.

The camera can detect people’s faces and bodies, and also offers an instant red-eye reduction. There’s Smart HDR which can identify highlights and find shadow detail. An interesting feature is that you can now adjust the depth of a portrait mode photo after capturing the image.

Apple iPhone XS Max Camera

Both, the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, come in three storage options — 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB. The devices are also IP68 rated, which means that both phones are water-resistant and can survive in water up to 30 minutes in 2 meters depth.

Another major feature of the new iPhone is the support for Dual SIM cards through eSIM technology. While the addition of Dual SIM support may not be a big deal in the US, it’s a huge deal for Asian countries. A special model for China has support for two physical SIM cards.

Running on iOS 12, the new iPhone XS and XS Max has support for stereo sound with a wider stereo field than 2017 iPhones, claims the company. As for the battery, the company has not revealed specifications but says that the iPhone XS should last 30 minutes longer than iPhone X and the iPhone XS Max should have 1.5 hours longer battery life than the iPhone X.

Samsung Galaxy S10 to come in three models, one with triple cameras

Samsung launched its 2018 Galaxy flagship earlier this year. The Galaxy S9 models weren’t so impressive as they only had some upgrades over the Galaxy S8 series but not so much of what fans expected. There are indications the Korean giant is already working on the Galaxy S10. According to an insider source, the Galaxy S10 will come in three different models and one of the versions will feature a triple camera setup. This is sort of a confirmation of earlier reports that the Galaxy S10 will have triple rear cameras. The Galaxy S10 is also said to include a budget-model, targeted at consumers who consider price as a major determinant of getting a phone.Samsung Galaxy S9 Burgundy Red variant

The source hinted that all three models will pack a 12MP wide-angle lens with 78-degree FOV as well as a 16MP super wide-angle lens with a field of view of 123 degrees. The source also disclosed that the high-end Galaxy S10 Plus will exclusively pack a third 13MP telephoto lens with a 45-degree FOV. In addition, the Galaxy S10 models will follow suit with the S9 in having support for Samsung’s dual aperture (f/1.5 and f/2.4) technology.

In addition, the Galaxy S10 Plus is said to come equipped with optical image stabilization in the wide-angle and telephoto lenses, just like the setup on the Galaxy S9 Plus and Note 9. Previously, the Galaxy S9 featured a single 12MP sensor, while Samsung’s Galaxy S9 Plus came equipped with two 12MP sensors, one a wide-angle lens and the other a telephoto lens. Samsung will likely utilize the triple camera setup by combining the image data from all three sensors for improved clarity and light performance but we are not so sure about how it will pan out.

Related: Samsung Galaxy S10+ may feature dual selfie and triple rear cameras

On the display end, the Galaxy S10 models are expected to have a 5.8-inch display on the base model, while the mainstream model will have a 6.1-inch display. The high-end Plus model will pack a 6.4-inch display. Unfortunately, the source hinted that the Galaxy S10 may not have the much-expected on-screen fingerprint sensor. Rather, the fingerprint sensor will likely remain on the rear of the device. However, the source included a caveat that Samsung’s plans for the Galaxy S10 could change between now and next year when the models are expected to drop.

The apology is for a delay in the delivery of all Meizu 16 (and 16 Plus) orders. According to Meizu, they underestimated the popularity of both phones hence the need to have to delay shipment. The duration of the delay ranges from one week to four weeks depending on the model and configuration.

Meizu 16 order delay

Those who ordered the 6GB RAM + 64GB model of the Meizu 16 in black or white will have to wait an extra week. Those who ordered the 6GB RAM + 128GB white version will have to wait for an extra two to three weeks.

Design

Before releasing the Find X this year, Oppo kept releasing upper-midrange handsets instead of flagships for 4 years. That is why even Oppo mid-rangers have a flagship-like design, and that is why we suggest you get an Oppo F9 Pro if you want the best look. It offers a tri-borderless design with a small waterdrop notch and a very narrow chin, as well as an elegant glass back which is available in gradient color variants. In the second place, there is Nokia 6.1 Plus: it boasts a notch as well, just a little bigger, and a glass back; but it is less attractive than its opponent. In my opinion, Moto G6 Plus is the worst one in terms of design, but it is splash resistant.

Display

When it comes to displays, it is not easy to choose a winner because these devices have similar displays both on the paper and in daily use. Moto G6 Plus and Oppo F9 Pro have a wider screen (note that 18:9 displays are bigger than 19:9 displays with the same diagonal), while Nokia 6.1 Plus is more compact and easy to use with one hand. I would personally choose Oppo F9 Pro due to its high surface and its great viewing quality, but the other twos are not so distant in terms of display quality.

Hardware & Software

The device I like the most for its hardware and software sides is Nokia 6.1 Plus. First of all, it offers a chipset (the Snapdragon 636) which is a perfect compromise between performance and efficiency. Secondly, the device is equipped with Android One, a stock version of the operating system supported directly by Google with fast and constant updates. Oppo F9 Pro takes the second place as its MediaTek Helio P60 is very powerful and it comes with up to 6 GB RAM.

Camera

After checking photos taken from each device, I can say that Moto G6 Plus has the most impressive rear camera. With its bright f/1.7 aperture it shoots very detailed photos and it can capture a huge amount of light. On the other hand, Oppo F9 Pro offers a better selfie snapper with a resolution of 25 MP which is also AI-backed with very interesting features. I saw less convincing photos with the Nokia 6.1 Plus.

Battery

With its big 3500 mAh battery, Oppo F9 Pro boasts the longest battery life. It is able to reach the end of the day even when used continuously. And it even has the fastest charging technology, so the fact that the battery is bigger does not mean that it takes longer to fully charge. When it comes to Moto G6 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus, it is a close fight and the battery life depends on the usages, but they last more or less the same.

Price

In India, Moto G6 Plus was released a few days ago in the 6 GB RAM configuration, with a price tag of about $310. Nokia 6.1 Plus costs about $222, while Oppo F9 Pro carries a price tag of about $333. Oppo F9 Pro is the winner of the comparison, but Nokia 6.1 Plus is the one with the best value for money.

ASUS launches ROG Phone in China, starts at ¥5999 (~$875)

ASUS held an event today in China where it announced a bunch of products including the ROG Phone. The ROG Phone was first announced about three months ago but has now gotten an official launch in China along with pricing details.

ASUS ROG Phone China

ROG Phone Design

With respect to design, the ROG Phone doesn’t look like your average phone. It comes in black with copper-colored accents for the cooling vents on the back and the front-facing speakers in front. There is an RGB LED underneath the ROG logo on the back with different modes including static, breathing, strobe and color cycling. The dual camera housing and the fingerprint scanner are also weirdly shaped. It isn’t a beautiful phone neither is it ugly but it stands out.

ROG Phone Specs

The ROG Phone packs a 6.0-inch 2160 x 1080 AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time. The screen has an 18:9 aspect ratio but sports moderately-sized bezels at the top and chin. Both bezels are home to the front-facing stereo speakers.

The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 845 processor but unlike other phones powered by the same processor and clocked at 2.8GHz, the one in the ROG Phone is clocked at 2.96GHz. There is 8GB of RAM paired with 128GB or 512GB of storage.

ROG Phone features

Sitting on the rear is a 120° wide-angle Sony IMX363 12MP f/1.7 primary sensor and an 8MP secondary sensor. Another 8MP f/2.0 camera sits above the display for video calls and selfies. ASUS says the cameras are packed with AI features such as scene recognition.

There is a 4,000mAh battery under the hood with support for Hyper Charger (30W fast charge) and Quick Charge 4.0. ASUS has put the charger’s IC inside the charger rather than inside the phone to keep the phone cool when charging.

ASUS ROG Phone Hyper Charge

The ROG Phone has a specially designed 3D vapor cooling chamber that keeps the device from overheating. It also has support for specially designed accessories that attach to the device. One of the accessories is the AeroActive Cooler which is a clip-on cooling fan. An app within the phone allows users to set the fan’s speed or turn it on or off. With the cooler on, the device’s surface temperature can be brought down up by up to 4.7 °C.

ASUS ROG Phone

There are other accessories such as the Mobile Desktop dock that turns it into a full desktop PC, a gamepad dock, and the TwinView Dock which has an extra screen and a built-in 6,000mAh battery.

The phone also has air triggers on the right side of the device which acts like shoulder buttons when playing games. It also has a special X-Mode that is activated by squeezing the frame of the phone. Once activated, background tasks are stopped and all processing power is channeled to the game.

Purported Huawei Mate 20 Pro surfaces in real skin to tease front design

Recent leaks of the upcoming Huawei Mate 20 Pro have revealed that it will be sporting a wider notch and a curved display. A leaked image of the alleged Mate 20 Pro has surfaced on Weibo today to reveal its front design.

The leaked image shows that the display of the Mate 20 Pro is curved towards its right and left edges. Except for the upper bezel of the phone that features a thick notch, the remaining bezels are quite thin. Rumors have it that the handset could be equipped with a massive AMOLED screen of 6.9 inches. The screen is expected to be embedded with an in-screen fingerprint reader.

Alleged Huawei Mate 20 Pro real skin

The Mate 20 Pro is rumored to arrive with 3D structured light module for scanning the face of the user in 3D like Apple’s Face ID. The large notch could be housing the 3D facing scanning module that may include a 24-megapixel front-facing camera. It is speculated that the notched display of the Mate 20 Pro will offer an aspect ratio of 18.7:9 and it would be supporting Quad HD+ resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels like the LG G7 ThinQ phone.

Previous reports have revealed that the Mate 20 Pro could be equipped with a squared shaped camera module that will be housing triple camera sensors and an LED flash. The Kirin 980 SoC will be present under the hood of the Mate 20 Pro. It is expected to arrive with a 4,200mAh battery.

The authenticity of the above image is yet to be confirmed. Hence, it is advisable to take this report with grain of salt. Huawei will be announcing the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro on Oct. 16 in London. It is also rumored to be debut Mate 20 Porsche Design smartphone alongside Mate 20 duo.
