The two new colours which would still follow the gradient pattern of the existing models will be announced by the CEO of consumer Business at Huawei, Richard Yu. They will be unveiled during the keynote address by the CEO at IFA which is just two weeks away. According to Android Authority, the first color is inspired by the night sky and the aurora borealis. It is said to utilise a wider color gamut than the twilight P20 Pro gradient but shares some of the same colors. The gradient starts with black on the left side and it transitions towards turquoise at the right of the phone. The colour mix also includes the purple and blue hues found on the twilight P20 Pro. On the other hand, the second color is said to take inspiration from the sea, and all the flora found underneath the sea including sea shells and pearls. The colour is described as mostly white with subtle hints of yellow and pink. It’s reportedly very similar to the Rose Gold regular P20, which features a gradient from white to pink, but in a subtle way. The new colours are said to be outstanding but we’ll have to wait until they are officially unveiled to have a look.

A new Motorola smartphone has been seen on TENAA. Its model number is XT1941-2 and although it shares a similar design to the Motorola XT1943-1 which eventually launched as the Motorola P30, its specs are a lot more different.

The Motorola XT1941-2 has a 5.86” 720 x 1520 display. That resolution means it has a notch and an aspect ratio of 19:9. It is powered by an octa-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz.

The phone has a fingerprint scanner underneath the Motorola batwing logo. It also has support for storage expansion (128GB max.) There is Android 8.1 Oreo on board and a 3,000mAh battery under its body.

Huawei Mate 20 Lite packing a Kirin 710 chipset benchmarked on GeekBench

Huawei last year unveiled the Mate 10 Lite shortly after the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro. That trend is set to continue with the Mate 20 as the Chinese company has got the device in the works. The Mate 10 Lite was reportedly certified in China recently gifting us some of its specs.Huawei Mate 20 Lite Gold

The GeenBench version comes with the model number Huawei SNE-LX1. The Mate 20 Lite is expected to be powered by a Kirin 710 chipset and even though this wasn`t categorically listed, it can be seen in the single-threaded performance of the Mate 20 Lite. When compared with the Nova 3i which packs the same chipset, the single core test score is similar. Although the multi-threaded score is slightly different, one reason proffered for this is the pre-release status of the software.Huawei Mate 20 Lite GeekBench

Further, the Mate 20 Lite also appeared on TENAA with a Kirin 710 chip onboard. However, the TENAA model is equipped with 6GB of RAM while the GeekBench version packs 4GB of RAM onboard. That is probably an indication that the Mate 20 Lite will be available in multiple versions.

Oppo R17 Pro’s triple cameras revealed in an official video

Oppo R17 was revealed alone this year, but OPPO R17 Pro is also coming soon. Today, the Chinese giant has published an official video teaser revealing the presence of a triple camera setup on the Pro version, just like the latest reports suggested. The video also reveals the design in a beautiful gradient hue, but this is nothing new given that it has almost the same aesthetics as the original R17.

OPPO-R17-Pro-front-and-rear

Unlike the Huawei P20 Pro, the third sensor present on the Oppo R17 Pro will not be a classic telephoto lens, neither a B/W monochromatic sensor. It will be a Time of Flight (ToF) tridimensional camera which will be used for AR, such as the Asus Zenfone AR or Ares. Further, the triple camera setup will feature a variable aperture such as Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus and Galaxy Note 9 to better adapt to every light condition.

Among the other specs, Oppo R17 Pro will pack a 6.4-inch display with a minimal notch and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. Under the hood, there will be an octa-core Snapdragon 710 chipset and up to 8 GB RAM. We will get more info after the official announcement which should take place on August 23.

ZTE may announce Axon 9 at IFA 2018

ZTE has had a rough year but there is still some time left to make back some of the cash it lost no thanks to fines and months of not being able to work as a result of the US ban.

ZTE IFA 2018

On Thursday, August 16, one of its official Twitter accounts released a poster announcing that the Chinese corporation will be at this year’s IFA holding in Berlin, Germany. The poster does hint at a 5G related reveal but that may not be the only thing we get to see. As you can see, there is an outline of a phone in the image as well.

ZTE Axon 9 IFA

Other than the hint in the poster, those who have received ZTE’s invitation said there is a 9 in the letter which may be a teaser for the Axon 9. Therefore, it is believed that the Axon 9 will be announced at the event.

The Axon 9’s existence was confirmed earlier this year by the company’s CEO who said it is the successor to 2016’s Axon 7. Later, alleged photos of the device leaked which revealed it will have a display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and dual rear cameras.

More live photos of the Vivo X23 appear online

Images of the Vivo X23 leaked online a few days ago but they aren’t sharp as they were secretly taken. Now more images have surfaced and they provide a closer and you can even say a clearer look.

In one of the images, we see the front of the Vivo X23 and it clearly shows it has a water-drop or valley-style notch. There are still bezels around but the big change is that the notch is much smaller.

A second image shows the rear of the phone. There are dual cameras arranged vertically and positioned at the left corner. Right underneath is an LED flash. There is also Vivo‘s branding on the glass back. There is no fingerprint scanner which means this will come with an in-display fingerprint sensor like the Vivo X21 UD. The third image is also of the rear but gives us a clearer look at the phone’s blue color and its light pattern design.

Qualcomm to switch to new naming schemes starting with the Snapdragon 855

It wasn’t too long ago that Qualcomm announced that its mobile processors should be referred to as Mobile Platforms. So instead of saying the Snapdragon 660 processor, one should say Snapdragon 660 Mobile Platform. Now, a bigger change is coming to the way the chipsets are named.

According to Roland Quandt, the American chip manufacturer may be switching to a new naming scheme. This new naming scheme will make it easier to identify chipsets used for mobiles and those used in PCs. Proof of the new naming scheme has been found in databases and LinkedIn profiles of some Qualcomm employees.

Qualcomm

At the moment, the new naming scheme is already in use for two upcoming chipsets. The Snapdragon 855 (SDM855) codenamed “Hena” which will succeed the current Snapdragon 845 flagship, is now being referred to as the SM8150. The SoC will measure 12.4 x 12.4 mm and will be a 7nm chipset manufactured by TSMC.

Winfuture.de reports that the SM1850 may likely not have an integrated 5G modem. Instead, Qualcomm will include a Snapdragon X24 model with support for Cat. 20 LTE. This is surprising as it was reported earlier this year that the SDM855 a.k.a. the SM8150 will come with the SDX50 modem and be known as the Snapdragon 855 Fusion Platform. The only plausible explanation is that there will be two versions of the SDM855 – one with the X24 modem for non-5G phones and the other with the X55 modem for 5G devices.

SM8150 proof

The second chipset that has also gotten the name change is the upcoming Snapdragon 1000 (SDM1000) codenamed “Poipu” which will power ARM-based computers. The chipset has appeared in documents as the SCX8180 while still keeping the aforementioned codename.

The SC8180 will measure 20 x 15 millimeters which means it is significantly bigger than the SDM855/SM8150. Production of the chipset will also be handled by TSMC and it will be 7nm too.

There are two other processors that have also appeared in documents with the new naming scheme but there is no confirmation as to their true identities. They are the SM7150 and the SM7250. There are speculations that they are probably the new names for the newly-announced Snapdragon 670 and its closer but more powerful sibling, the Snapdragon 710.
