When Samsung had announced the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) earlier in this week, it had said that both the smartphones would be released in the market by early January 2018. Fresh information reveals that the Galaxy A8 duo will be coming to its first country in the first week of January.

A press release by Samsung Vietnam has officially confirmed that the Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) would be made available in Vietnam starting from Jan. 6. In Vietnam, the Galaxy A8 (2018) would be priced at around $485 and the larger Galaxy A8+ (2018) would be costing around $595. Both phones will be coming to the country in color choices like Black, Orchid Grey and Gold.

The press release highlights some of the best features that enrich the experience on the 2018 Galaxy A8 phones. Both phones also come with IP68 certified chassis and Always-on Display feature that are available on premium phones like Galaxy S8 and S8+. VDIS (video digital image stabilization) is a feature that stabilizes the camera footage and the Hyperlapse mode lets users to create time-lapse videos. The 2018 Galaxy A8 and A8+ are the first Galaxy A series phones to support Gear VR.

The 2018 Galaxy A8 smartphones look like the Galaxy S8 duo as they feature Infinity Display design. The Galaxy A8 (2018) has a 5.6-inch S-AMOLED display and the Galaxy A8+ (2018) has a 6-inch S-AMOLED display. Both the smartphones support 18.5:9 aspect ratio and support a resolution of 1080 x 2220 pixels.

The Galaxy A8 (2018) has 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage and 3,000mAh battery whereas the Galaxy A8+ (2018) has 6 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage and 3,500mAh battery. Both the phones are equipped with 16-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual front cameras and 16-megapixel rear camera. These phones are pre-installed with Android Nougat OS and also feature rear-mounted fingerprint reader.

In related news, Russian publications are claiming that the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) would be coming to Russia starting from Jan. 1. Well-known technology journalist Eldar Murtazin has claimed that the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) would be respectively available with a price tag of 34,990 Rubles (~$597) and 37,990 Rubles (~$648).

Samsung Galaxy A8 surely has better aesthetics. Oppo R11s is a simple full metal unibody phone, while Samsung Galaxy A8 is made of metal for the frame and glass for the back cover, and it is also IP68 certified. This means that the handset is waterproof just like Samsung Galaxy S8: you can put it underwater up to 1.5 meters deep, for 30 minutes at max. Samsung Galaxy A8 is a more compact phone, but it also has a smaller display: a 5.6-inch panel against the 6 inches of Oppo R11s. Both are AMOLED displays and they will probably offer a similar viewing quality, but A8 has slightly more pixels due to the 18.5:9 aspect ratio.

On the other hand, we think that Oppo R11s may offer better performances and will be more efficient thanks to its Snapdragon 660 SoC which has proved to have incredible performance. It is still impossible to compare the cameras as there are no samples shot by the A8, but we can predict an awesome challenge as these handsets are two excellent camera phones. The batteries have the same capacity, so the battery life will not differ so much. At last, while Samsung Galaxy A8 has a dedicated slot for micro SD, Oppo R11s has a hybrid dual SIM slot.

The Samsung Galaxy A8 is coming to Europe with a price of 500 euros (589 dollars) for the base variant with 3 GB of RAM, while Oppo R11s is available in Asia only with a price of 420 euros (500 dollars). Samsung Galaxy A8 appears slightly better, while Oppo R11s has a higher value for money. Both the handsets are a great choice.

Samsung Display Will Supply Apple Almost 200 million OLED Screens Next Year

It is no news that Apple sources for some of its components from Samsung, key being displays. This year, Samsung’s display arm shipped 50 million screens for the iPhone X and that number is expected to quadruple next year.

Samsung wears the crown of king of displays and doesn’t fail to show it off with every flagship it makes. It also doesn’t mind supplying its biggest rival, as Apple’s orders bring in a large chunk of revenue.

The panel used for the iPhone X is said to cost about $110. If it will be increasing its shipments to Apple by nearly 400% next year, that means it is looking at a revenue of almost $22 billion.

The increase in orders is said to be as a result of the increase in yield rate of the displays which is now close to 90%. The Korea Herald reports that the high yield rate means Samsung can produce up to 224 million 6-inch panels per year.

While the figure above is a lot of money, Samsung knows this deal won’t last forever. Apple has invested in LG’s display arm and is looking to switch to the other Korean giant come 2019. Both companies are also working on a foldable iPhone which is rumored to launch in 2020.

Xiaomi Mi Max 3 To Feature 7-Inch 18:9 Display And Dual Cameras

Xiaomi’s Mi Max phablet, which was launched in the year 2016 became a popular device, especially among the multimedia users. This year, the company launched its successor, dubbed as Mi Max 2 with upgraded specifications. Now, according to the latest reports, the company is now working on the Mi Max 3.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 will reportedly come with major upgrades to keep the devices in line with the current trends. The phone is expected to come with an even bigger display size of 7-inch. This is interesting as the 7-inch devices usually fall under the tablet category. The Full HD+ display will have a screen resolution of 2160 × 1080 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio.

The phablet is likely to be powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 660 chipset. Currently, we don’t have information regarding the RAM and internal storage capacity on the device. With dual camera setup at the back of the device getting mainstream, the Mi Max 3 is expected to come equipped with the same.

Looking at the recently leaked images of the phone, the dual camera module will be placed at the top-left corner, along with an LED flash. The company is expected to employ a high-resolution camera sensor coupled with a depth sensor, or a wide-angle lens with a telephoto lens.

The phone is expected to pack a 5,500mAh battery which will also support Quick Charge 3.0 as well as reverse charging. While there are no details available about the software used, we are expecting the phablet to run Android Nougat based MIUI 9. Looking at the past launch dates, we are expecting this Mi Max 3 to launch in the middle of the next year.

The Mi Max 2 features a 6.44-inch Full HD with 1920 x 1080 pixels screen resolution. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, paired with 4GB RAM. There is a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The phone runs Android Nougat 7.1.1 layered with MIUI 8 on top and is fuelled by a 5,300mAh battery.

The Honor AM51 Speaker has a lot going for it. From its donut-like shape like the UE Roll or Google Home Mini to its cool colors and affordable price, it sure ticks all the boxes. Let’s not also forget its IP5X rating which means its safe for poolside parties or your solo shower performances.

The Honor AM51 has a TPU shell for the lower half and a fabric-like mesh covering at the top. It also has a shoelace-like strap for carrying or for hanging. Xiaomi Mi 6X Back Cover Leaked, Reveals iPhone X Like Dual Camera Setup

Lately, Xiaomi — the China-based smartphone manufacturer has been aggressively launching new devices. The company is now gearing up to launch its flagship smartphone next year — Xiaomi Mi 7. However, according to the latest leak, the company is also working on Mi 6X.

An image of the phone’s back cover has been leaked online which allegedly belongs to the upcoming Xiomi Mi 6X smartphone. This is the first time we are hearing about the Mi 6X, which is supposed to be an upgraded model of Mi 6, the company’s current flagship device.

The leaked image suggests that the phone will come with a dual camera setup at the back with two camera sensor stacked vertically. The camera module will be placed at the top-left corner, similarly to what we saw on Apple’s iPhone X.

There is a big circular hole in the middle of the back cover, which we are assuming is for the fingerprint sensor. Apart from that, this transparent silicone case also shows the phone’s buttons placed on the right. It seems that there is a speaker grill at the bottom, along with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Given that the fingerprint sensor is placed at the back, there is a possibility that the phone will feature a full-screen bezel-less display — similar to what we saw on the recently launched Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus.

The Mi 5X was launched in July earlier this year, so if the company is indeed working on the Mi 6X smartphone, we are expecting it to get launched in mid-2018. It will be interesting given that the company would have already launched its next-generation flagship smartphone Mi 7.

Xiaomi Mi 7 is expected to come with a 5.65-inch display whereas the Mi 7 Plus may feature a large 6.01-inch screen. Both the phones are rumoured to support 18:9 aspect ratio. The Mi 7 may include a battery of 3,200mAh capacity whereas the larger Mi 7 Plus may feature a 3,500mAh battery. These devices are also rumoured to support wireless charging.

The recently announced Snapdragon 845 chipset is likely to be the driving force for the smartphones, along with 6GB RAM. Both smartphone models are expected to house dual rear cameras featuring Sony IMX380 and IMX350 sensors.

10.or D Budget Smartphone Launched In India, Price Starts At Rs. 4,999

Smartphone brand 10.or (pronounced Tenor), which forayed into the Indian market earlier this year with a focus on the budget segment, has today launched its third smartphone in the country, dubbed as 10.or D.

Earlier, in September this year, the company had launched two budget smartphones — 10.or E and 10.or G. This newly launched smartphone — 10.or D has been developed in partnership with Longcheer. It is part of the company’s Crafted for Amazon programme, which features products that have been made in India and designed for India.

The 10.or D comes with a 5.2-inch HD display with a screen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The phone is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor, clocked at 1.4GHz, coupled with Adreno 308 GPU.

There are two models — one comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage while the other packs 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. It also comes with a microSD card slot, allowing users to further expand the storage capacity.

The phone sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and an LED flash. On the front, there is a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The device runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box. There’s also a fingerprint scanner, which the company says can unlock the phone in just 0.2 seconds.

The device is fuelled by a 3,500mAh battery, which the company claims can deliver up to two days of battery life on a single charge. Further, the battery is rated to deliver 70 hours of MP3 playback time, 10 hours of Web browsing, and up to 25 hours of talk time.

The 10.or D smartphone is priced at Rs. 4,999 (approximately $78) for the 2GB RAM model while the 3GB RAM variant costs Rs. 5,999 (approximately $94). The phone will be available for purchase from 5th January 2018, exclusively through Amazon India.

Amazon Prime subscribers, who purchase this smartphone, will receive one year of additional warranty on the device. Given the phone’s specifications and pricing, it will compete against the like of Xiaomi Redmi 5A.

India Gets Vivo V7 in Energetic Blue

India is the new love of Chinese manufacturers and they are not afraid to show it with the first and sometimes exclusive releases they are getting. Vivo yesterday announced that its mid-range Vivo V7 will now be available in Energetic Blue.

When the Vivo V7 was unveiled last month, it was only available in Matte Black and Champagne Gold. Now interested buyers can pick up the full-screen smartphone in a third color option.

The Honor 9 was unveiled in June this year and today the company has officially announced its stripped-down edition with Honor 9 Lite moniker (also known as Honor 9 Youth Edition). Compared to the Honor 9 that came with a traditional 16:9 and dual rear-facing cameras, the newly unveiled Honor 9 Lite features an 18:9 display and quad cameras.

Honor 9 Lite Specifications and Features

The Honor 9 Lite measures 151 x 71.9 x 7.6mm and weighs 149 grams. The handset features 2.5D curved glass panels on its front and rear sides. It comes in color choices like Navy Blue, Seagull Gray, Magic Nightfall (Black), and Pearl White.

In the previous month, Essential had released the first beta build of the Android 8.0 Oreo for Essential Phone users. Today, the company has rolled out the second beta build of Oreo with new features and enhancements.

The first Oreo beta build came with badge notifications for individual apps, a revamped Settings menu and plenty of background enhancements that increased the overall speed and performance of the device. 4G Nokia Feature Phone Receives Bluetooth SIG Certification, Launch Nearing

Rumors have it that HMD Global will be introducing a new 4G feature phone soon. Recently, Nokia branded phones with model numbers TA-1047 and TA-1060 had received certification from Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S. These variants are said to belong to a new Nokia 4G feature phone. The FCC describes it as a mobile phone and not as a smartphone. The alleged 4G Nokia feature phone has also bagged Bluetooth SIG certification which indicates that its arrival is drawing near.

Bluetooth SIG has certified TA-1047, TA-1060, TA-1056, TA-1079 and TA-1066 Nokia phones. It seems that these could be the five variants of the upcoming 4G Nokia feature phone will be heading to different markets. It is likely that the phone may arrive in India in single-SIM and dual-SIM versions.

Asia and Europe are also expected to receive the dual-SIM edition of the forthcoming Nokia 4G phone. The rest of the world is expected to receive its single-SIM edition. Africa, Australia and Americas may also receive two variants of the phone. Also, the description of the software version suggests that it is not running on Android, but it may be loaded with series 30+ Feature OS like the Nokia 3310 (2017).

The FCC listing has revealed that the dimensions of the phone are 133 x 68mm. It is speculated that it may feature a QWERTY keyboard like the older Nokia E72.

HMD Global is speculated to announce couple of new phones in Q1 next year. Apart from the 4G Nokia feature phone, the Finnish firm is expected to launch other phones such as Nokia 9 flagship, Nokia 6 (2018) and Nokia 8 (2018).

Nokia 9 to Arrive with Dual Selfie Cameras

The FCC listing of the Nokia 9 had revealed that it would be coming with a 5-megapixel selfie camera. However, a leaked render that had surfaced yesterday revealed that the phone features dual selfie cameras. Investigating on the configuration of the frontal camera on its manufacturer’s website has revealed that the Nokia 9 will be indeed arriving with dual front-facing cameras.

According to the FCC documentation of the Nokia 9, it will be featuring a Chicony CKACE16 module for the frontal camera. By checking the specifications of the camera module on the manufacturer site, it can be confirmed that it is a dual camera system. However, the specs page of the camera module carries an image of single sensor. The webpage seems to feature a wrong image for the dual camera sensor.

The Chicony CKACE16 is an autofocus enabled dual camera setup that features an f/2.0 aperture 5-megapixel sensor that carries support for full HD video recording. It also includes another 5-megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture.

The leaked render of the Nokia 9 that can be seen above shows the dual selfie camera sitting on its top bezel. The render shows that the smartphone features slim bezels around the display and it lack a front-mounted fingerprint scanner. This suggests that the fingerprint reader could be placed on the back panel of the Nokia 9.

The FCC filing of the smartphone has revealed that it would be featuring a 5.5-inch OLED display that may support 18:9 aspect ratio. The Snapdragon 835 chipset is present under the hood of the phone. It includes UFS 2.1 storage of 128 GB and it will also include a microSD card slot. It will be equipped with 12-megapixel + 13-megapixel dual rear-facing cameras. A 3,250mAh battery equipped with fast charging feature will be powering the Nokia 9. The Geekbench listing of the phone has revealed that it be featuring 6 GB of RAM and Android 8.0 Oreo OS.

The Nokia 9 is speculated to get official on January 19 along with the second-generation edition of the Nokia 8.

Earlier this year, Gionee launched three smartphone under its A1 series in the Indian market — Gionee A1, A1 Plus and A1 Lite. The Gionee A1 Plus and A1 Lite were launched in India with a price tag of Rs. 26,999 and Rs. 14,999, respectively. Now, the China-based company has announced permanent price cut on both these smartphones.

The Gionee A1 Plus has received a price cut of Rs. 3,000 while the pricing for Gionee A1 Lite has been slashed by Rs. 1,000. After this price cut, the Gionee A1 Lite now costs Rs. 13,999 while the Gionee A1 Plus is available for purchase at Rs. 23,999.

Along with the price-cut, the company has also announced a few bundled offers from Airtel, Paytm and Reliance Jio. Airtel customers will get additional 10GB data per month for six months. Reliance Jio users will receive up to 60GB additional data on recharge of Rs. 309 for a period of six months. It comes with a large 20-megapixel Selfie camera on the front along with a dual camera setup at the back, consisting 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors. The phone is fuelled by a 4,550mAh battery.
