Is BGMI Dying? How Recent Issues Are Making It Unplayable

Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) was introduced as a localized version of PUBG Mobile, aiming to cater to Indian gamers after the original global variant was banned in India. However, the game’s current state has left players dissatisfied. Once considered a promising battle royale experience, BGMI has gradually become plagued with issues that severely affect the gameplay.

Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI)

1. Lag and Performance Issues

BGMI’s recent updates have not brought stability; instead, they have introduced lag and frame drops, even on high-end devices. Players have reported significant performance issues, especially in classic event matches, which make the game frustrating to play.

This problem undermines the core experience, as consistent lag can affect shooting accuracy, movement responsiveness, and overall performance. Such issues are critical for a battle royale game, where quick reactions determine victory or defeat. Despite Krafton’s attempts to resolve these performance issues, the game still struggles to provide a smooth experience for most players.

2. Overheating and Battery Drain

Another significant issue plaguing BGMI is the overheating of devices. Gamers have frequently noticed their smartphones heating up during extended sessions, which not only affects performance but can also damage the device’s components over time.

This, in turn, leads to faster battery drain, reducing the overall battery lifespan. Overheating remains a persistent issue, with no substantial efforts to address it. While it is expected that high-end games may cause heating, BGMI’s impact is reportedly more severe than other games in the same genre, making it particularly concerning.

3. Server Instability

BGMI’s servers have faced considerable instability, resulting in connection problems, matchmaking errors, and unexpected disconnections. These server issues can be disruptive during matches, causing players to miss crucial moments or be left behind in the middle of intense gameplay.

4. Cheating and Hacking Concerns

Cheating has been a longstanding issue in BGMI. Despite anti-cheat measures and regular updates aimed at combating hacks, cheaters still find ways to exploit the game, leading to an unfair playing environment. This is one of the most damaging aspects of the game’s reputation, as it diminishes the competitive integrity that players expect. The persistence of cheaters not only frustrates regular players but also makes new users hesitant to invest time and effort into the game.

5. Loading Errors

BGMI has also struggled with a series of loading errors, with the most notable being the recent 73% loading issue that affected many players. Though it was eventually resolved, a similar 60% loading error has emerged in the new “Wow Mode,” demonstrating the lack of proper testing and quality checks before updates are rolled out. Such issues indicate that Krafton needs to test updates more thoroughly across various devices to avoid similar errors in the future.

6. Mic Glitches

For a multiplayer game like BGMI, in-game communication is crucial. However, the game has been plagued by mic issues, particularly for iOS users. While the problem appeared to have been resolved in a previous update, it resurfaced with the latest update, leading to a significant setback for players who rely on voice communication during fast-paced gameplay. Frequent mic glitches make communication impossible during critical moments, making it frustrating for players.

7. Lack of Optimization

Given the current state of the game, BGMI demands optimization improvements. The fact that it struggles to run smoothly on flagship-level hardware is concerning. If the developers argue that the game requires even higher specifications to function properly, it reflects poorly on their optimization efforts. For a game that once had a wider reach among players with mid-range devices, this shift towards demanding only high-end hardware is unfortunate.

8. Spending Money on Celebrities

Another controversial aspect of BGMI’s recent trajectory is Krafton’s investment in celebrity endorsements rather than enhancing the core gaming experience. Players feel that the game was more popular before the celebrity-centric marketing campaigns began.

Allocating significant budgets to celebrity promotions, rather than investing in server improvements and developer resources, has drawn criticism. Players believe that the focus should shift back to delivering a stable and enjoyable experience, with updates thoroughly tested on various devices before release.

9. Conclusion

BGMI’s journey from being a promising PUBG Mobile alternative to becoming unplayable for many gamers is a clear example of how neglecting core issues can lead to a game’s downfall.

If Krafton doesn’t act quickly to address these problems, BGMI risks losing its player base to other better-optimized games in the battle royale genre. It’s time to focus on the fundamentals and revive the game that Indian players once loved.

Is Exynos losing ground? Samsung’s home appliances also reported to use Qualcomm chips for AI features

Samsung appears to be making significant shifts with its in-house Exynos chips, reportedly looking to use Snapdragon processors in a wider variety of products. Previous reports have already hinted at the use of Snapdragon and Dimensity flagship chipsets for the upcoming Galaxy flagship lineup, the Galaxy S25 series.

Now a report from South Korean media SEDaily suggests that Samsung’s home appliances may also adopt Qualcomm chips in the near future.

Samsung’s home appliances could offer more advanced AI features in future

For Samsung’s home appliances, shifting to Snapdragon processors is expected to enhance the AI capabilities of the products, especially as the demand grows for smarter and more connected devices. For instance, the AI in the latest Samsung refrigerator uses a camera to identify ingredients and recommend recipes. To make this AI function more advanced, the support of cutting-edge chips is essential.

Samsung Exynos Chipset

This is apparently something difficult to achieve with the Exynos chips Samsung has used in its home appliances in the past. On the other hand, Qualcomm provides the efficiency and NPU capability needed for the implementation of these AI features.

Yoo Mi-young, vice president of Samsung Electronics’ home appliance division, once said: “We are developing products with the goal of launching home appliances that use large-scale language models on devices (that is, edge AI) in 2025. We are developing our own low-power, high-performance neural network processing unit (NPU) chips. Multiple organizations are conducting research.”

This potential move is primarily due to performance gaps and production challenges with Samsung’s Exynos chips. Initially expected to power the S25 series, the Exynos 2500’s production reportedly faces yield issues, with difficulties in producing chips at scale that meet Samsung’s quality standards. These limitations have led Samsung to consider Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for its next-generation Galaxy flagships, bypassing Exynos and exploring MediaTek Dimensity 9400 as an alternative.

While not much is known about the specific choices Samsung is going to make regarding the chips for home appliances, the replacement of Exynos 2500 with Dimensity 9400 in the S25 and S25 Plus will definitely bring a major improvement in both peak performance and AI capabilities.

Google Pixel 9a specs, pricing tipped; could launch months in advance

The upcoming Google Pixel 9a is poised to deliver a larger display, improved performance, and a competitive price. Slated for a mid-March 2025 release, this early launch also suggests Google might skip hardware announcements at Google I/O next year. The Pixel 9a will debut at $499, the same price as the Pixel 8a, offering enhanced features without a price increase.

Google-Pixel-8a-Design

Scheduled for a March 2025 launch, the Pixel 9a’s release timeline is a few months earlier than expected, aiming to stay competitive in the mid-range market. Its $499 price point undercuts the Pixel 9 by $300, offering substantial value for consumers seeking flagship-like capabilities.

Pixel 9a specifications (leaked)

The Pixel 9a reportedly comes with a 6.3-inch Actua display, supporting adaptive refresh rates from 60Hz to 120Hz—a considerable size increase over the Pixel 8a’s 6.1-inch 120Hz display. This screen size matches the Pixel 9, giving users a similar visual experience.

Under the hood, the Pixel 9a features the new Tensor G4 chipset, 8GB RAM, and storage options of 128GB or 256GB. The device is powered by a 5,000mAh battery, an 11% increase over the Pixel 8a, though charging speeds remain at 18W wired and 7.5W wireless.

Compared with the Pixel 8a, the Pixel 9a’s Tensor G4 is relatively power efficient and can run more advanced AI features on the device. Not to mention, it suggests a significantly better battery life, a higher peak performance that’s also more sustainable for the phone, and a better implementation of AI features.

According to Google, Tensor G4 was designed with its DeepMind division and is optimized to run our most advanced AI models. It will be the first processor to run Gemini Nano with Multimodality — which helps your phone understand text, images, and audio.

Camera specs reportedly include a 48MP primary lens, a 13MP ultrawide lens, and a 13MP front-facing camera.

To provide context, the Pixel 8a launched with a 64MP main camera. Despite the size increase and the bigger battery, Google has reportedly managed to keep the Pixel 9a’s weight at 186g, even lighter than the Pixel 8a’s 188g.

With its boosted specs and consistent price point, the Pixel 9a could be a major contender among mid-range phones in 2025.

Samsung contemplates new premium smartphone brand to kill iPhone dominance, claims report

Samsung is reportedly considering a significant shift in its branding strategy to better compete with Apple’s iPhone in the premium smartphone market, as per South Korean publication E-Today.  Industry insiders reveal that the tech giant is exploring the possibility of introducing a new high-end brand, aiming to enhance its image and attract more affluent customers.

Samsung aims to elevate its brand image

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

Since 2009, Samsung has used the ‘Galaxy’ brand for all its smartphones, from budget-friendly models to flagship devices. However, this broad approach may have diluted the premium perception of its top-tier offerings. Despite leading in global smartphone shipments, Samsung has struggled to maintain its foothold in the lucrative premium segment, where Apple’s iPhone reigns supreme.

The idea of a new brand is inspired by Hyundai’s success with Genesis, its luxury vehicle line. Launched in 2015, Genesis quickly established itself as a leading premium brand, significantly boosting Hyundai’s market reputation and profitability. Samsung hopes to replicate this success in the smartphone industry.

At the CES 2024 in Las Vegas, Samsung’s Global Marketing Head, Lee Young-hee, hinted at this potential rebranding. She acknowledged that the extensive Galaxy lineup, which includes everything from foldable phones to mid-range devices, might confuse consumers and weaken the premium allure of its flagship products.

Recent surveys highlight a growing preference for iPhones among young consumers. For instance, a study by Piper Sandler revealed that 90 percent of American teenagers use iPhones. In Korea, a Gallup survey showed that 64% of people aged 18-29 prefer iPhones, with the figure climbing to 75 percent among young women. These statistics underscore the challenge Samsung faces in appealing to the next generation of smartphone users.

To address this, Samsung is conducting internal studies to evaluate the feasibility of launching a new brand. This initiative includes analyzing potential market impacts, marketing costs, and long-term benefits. As the company contemplates this strategic move, industry experts believe that introducing a distinct premium brand could help Samsung reclaim its competitive edge and secure a stronger position in the high-end smartphone market. This strategic shift mirrors Samsung’s approach with the W-series phones like the Samsung W25 and the Samsung W25 Flip in China, where a separate premium lineup has been successfully marketed for several years.

Earlier today, the company also teased that the OnePlus 13 features an IP68/IP69 rating, ensuring top-tier water and dust resistance, along with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor that offers 35% faster recognition, even under challenging conditions. In battery performance tests, it retained 76% after a 3-hour light test and 22% after a 6-hour heavy test. With its 6,000mAh battery, the OnePlus 13 lasted 8 hours and 4 minutes in an extreme endurance test.

Coming to the other specs, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite, supporting 120 fps gaming, and is available in up to 24GB+1TB version. Apple Mac Mini launched with M4 chip and an incredibly small form factor

Following yesterday’s unveiling of the M4 iMac, Apple is continuing its Mac-focused announcements with a major refresh to the Mac Mini today. The new model features Apple’s latest M4 chip and Apple Intelligence capabilities, all in a dramatically smaller design. Let’s get into the details here.

Apple Mac Mini M4 Specifications

The most notable change is undoubtedly the revised design. As speculated, Apple has significantly reduced the size of the already compact Mac Mini. Measuring a mere five inches on each side, this iteration is truly miniature.

For thermal management in such a small space, the M4 Mac Mini has “an innovative thermal architecture” that channels air throughout the system with ventilation routed exclusively through the base.

Despite its smaller size, the Mac Mini retains a healthy selection of ports. The front features two USB-C ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The rear offers ethernet, HDMI, and three USB-C ports, all of which support Thunderbolt connectivity.

Notably, the USB-A ports that were present in previous iterations have been omitted. However, users should find the configuration comparable, as the base M4 Mini replaces the two USB-A ports with an extra Thunderbolt port for a total of five.

The speed of these ports depends on the flavors of the M4 processor. The standard M4 provides Thunderbolt 4 connectivity, while the M4 Pro features the latest Thunderbolt 5 with faster read and write speeds.

Unsurprisingly, the M4 Pro delivers superior performance with its 14-core CPU and 20-core GPU configuration. The base M4 chip has a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU.

For the first time, the new silicon supports ray tracing, and Apple ships the computer with a base RAM of 16GB, likely to support the Apple Intelligence features. Users can configure RAM up to 32GB with the M4 and up to 64GB with the M4 Pro.

Storage options extend to an impressive 8TB, making the diminutive Mac Mini a surprisingly powerful machine for those willing to invest. The familiar 10-gigabit ethernet is also available as an optional upgrade for users seeking faster-wired connections.

Pricing and Availability

Although Apple has made efforts to improve the portability of the new Mini and introduce various updates, there’s not much change in terms of price. It starts at the same $599 for the base M4 model, while the more powerful M4 Pro version starts at $1,399. Both configurations are available for pre-order now and will be in stores on November 8th.

Xiaomi unveils high-performance SU7 Ultra electric sedan in China

Xiaomi introduced the SU7 Ultra as a prototype in July. Three months later, the high-performance electric sedan made its official debut in China today, with some impressive figures to share.

With an impressive 1,500 horsepower and a sub-2-second 0-to-100 km/h acceleration time, the SU7 Ultra sets new standards in electric vehicle performance—though it comes at a premium price. Here’s a closer look at the details.

Design and Aerodynamics

The SU7 Ultra builds upon the design of the standard SU7 sedan with a focus on enhanced aerodynamics. It features sportier bumpers, a prominent rear spoiler measuring 1.56 meters wide, and a wider body compared to its counterpart.

These modifications, along with an active rear diffuser, contribute to a claimed downforce of 265 kilograms. The SU7 Ultra rides on 21-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero 5 tires.

Inside, the SU7 Ultra offers a blend of luxury and performance-oriented touches. The seats are wrapped in Alcantara leather which extends to the steering wheel, door cards, and other interior elements. Xiaomi is also using carbon fiber for interior parts such as doorstep panels, center tunnel components, and the rearview mirror.

Powertrain and Performance

The SU7 Ultra is powered by a CATL-made Qilin 2.0 battery with a capacity of 93.7 kWh. The battery is claimed to have a maximum discharge power of 1,330 kW and supports an impressive 5.2C DC fast-charging rate for a 10-80% charge in just 11 minutes.

The battery feeds a trio of electric motors – two V8s and one V6s – that together generate 1,138 kW (1,526 hp) power and a peak torque of 1,770 Nm. The setup allows SU7 Ultra to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.98 seconds, reach 200 km/h in 5.86 seconds and achieve a top speed of 350 km/h.

The SU7 Ultra also boasts a quarter-mile time of 9.23 seconds and features an Asil-D torque vectoring system for improved handling.

Braking System and Competition

Xiaomi has equipped the SU7 Ultra with the largest carbon ceramic brake discs yet seen on a production car. The front discs measure 430 mm x 40 mm, while the rear discs are slightly smaller at 410 mm x 32 mm.

These brakes are designed to withstand extreme temperatures of over 1,300°C (2,372°F) and are paired with Akebono calipers (six-piston front, four-piston rear) for exceptional stopping power. Impressively, the SU7 Ultra can brake from 100 km/h to a complete stop in just 30.8 meters.

While the SU7 Ultra Prototype achieved a record-breaking lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the production version is expected to be slightly slower due to its increased weight. The prototype utilized a carbon fiber body which resulted in a curb weight of 1,900 kg.

Price and Availability

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra carries a hefty price tag of 814,900 yuan (approximately 114,200 USD) in China.  While pre-orders are already open, volume production and deliveries are not expected to begin until March 2025.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun positioned the SU7 Ultra as a compelling alternative to the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, as it offers more power at a lower price point. The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is priced at 1,998,000 yuan in China.

Goldman Sachs projects that SU7 Ultra will reach 4,000 units in sales by 2025. The vehicle already seems to be a success in China as 3,680 reservations have already been made within 10 minutes after the launch event had ended.

Xiaomi launches Watch S4 with interchangeable bezels and gesture control

Xiaomi today unveiled a slew of new products, including the highly anticipated Xiaomi 15 series smartphones. Alongside the premium offerings, the company introduced the Xiaomi Watch S4, a more affordable counterpart to the previously announced Watch S4 Sport.

Xiaomi Watch S4 Specifications

Much like other Xiaomi wearables, the Watch S4 boasts a high degree of personalization. Users can tailor the watch to their style through interchangeable straps, watch faces, and a unique feature –  replaceable bezels. This allows for a wider range of aesthetic preferences compared to traditional smartwatches.

Xiaomi Watch S4 gesture control

The Watch S4 features a digital crown for navigating menus and zooming in on maps. A new addition is gesture recognition, allowing users to perform specific actions –  like turning on a smart home light – with a simple flick of the wrist.

For health-conscious users, the Watch S4 offers heart rate and blood oxygen monitoring with a claimed accuracy of 98.2%. It uses Goodix Technology’s health sensor for accurate, real-time tracking of heart rate and blood oxygen levels.

The company is also touting improved sleep-tracking capabilities compared to previous iterations of their smartwatches.

Fitness enthusiasts will have access to over 150 sports modes, including a dedicated running mode that provides feedback on posture during workouts.

The watch itself boasts a round 1.43-inch AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 1,500 nits — 300 nits brighter than the new Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro. Battery life sits at an estimated 15 days on normal usage, dropping to 5 days with the always-on display enabled.

As usual, eSIM support is optional in Watch S4 while contactless payments are enabled by an NFC chip, while GPS supports navigation and fitness tracking.

Pricing and Availability

The Xiaomi Watch S4 launches in China at a competitive price point of 999 yuan (approximately €129). The LTE variant with an eSIM module comes in slightly higher at 1,199 yuan (approximately €155). Currently, Xiaomi has not provided any details regarding an international launch for the Watch S4.

Let’s dive into the details of this much-anticipated tablet series.

Xiaomi Pad 7 Series

Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro launches with aluminum case, 1200 nits display, and 21 days battery life

Xiaomi unveiled a range of products at today’s launch event. While the Xiaomi 15 series stole the spotlight, the company also introduced some wearable accessories. Among them is the new Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro, their latest fitness tracker.

Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Pro Specifications

The Band 9 Pro retains the same 1.74-inch rectangular display as its predecessor. And no prize for guessing, it’s an identical 60Hz AMOLED panel. However, Xiaomi has doubled the peak brightness to 1200 nits in this generation.

The Band 9 Pro has an aluminum case available in black, gold, or pink. It is water-resistant up to 5 ATM, allowing you to wear it worry-free during swims.  It’s also feather-light at 24.5 grams and a mere 10.8 millimeters thin.

Xiaomi is offering either a sporty or leather band depending on the variant, with a sleek Milanese loop sold separately for those seeking a touch of elegance.

Battery life is probably the main upgrade on the new smart band. Xiaomi claims the wearable can now offer up to 21 days of run time.

Features remain a strong suit for Xiaomi. The usual suspects return, including over 150 sports modes and an integrated GPS for tracking runs and bike rides without needing your phone.

Sleep tracking is said to be more precise this time around, and heart rate monitoring has reportedly seen improvements as well. Rounding out the feature set is an NFC chip that will allow users to make contactless payments via the wearable itself.

Price and Availability

For now, the Smart Band 9 Pro is a China-only affair, with prices starting at 399 yuan (around €52) for the sports band option and 449 yuan (around €58) for the leather variant. The standard Xiaomi Smart Band 9 is already available in some regions for around €33, but details on the global launch of the Pro model are still under wraps.
