Huawei’s elite Honor brand has gone official with the Honor V10 in a ceremony held in China today. The Honor V10 has been a regular on leaks and rumours and most of the rumours turned out to be correct. For one, the device utilizes a fullscreen design and is powered by the latest Kirin 970 chip. Let’s take a look at the design and specifications of the Honor V10.

Design & Specifications

The Honor V10 features a 5.99-inch FHD+ display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. This gives the device an 18:9 aspect ratio. As you would expect, the device packs a metal body crafted using modern Korean technology and it has a width of 74.98mm. The V10 also features an ultra-slim body which is just 6.97mm thick. The most spectacular aspect of the Honor V10’s full-screen design is that it also features a front-mounted fingerprint sensor which also doubles as the home button.

As stated, the V10 is powered by a Kirin 970 chip which has a built-in Neural Processing Unit (NPU). The phone is said to have a visual, auditory, learning, cognitive, computing, and decision-making ability. It also has the ability to identify up to 33 images per second and brings 25 times performance improvement when compared to the previous generation chip. Furthermore, the smartphone is available in up to three memory variants. There is a 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version, as well as a 6GB RAM + 64GB version and finally a top-end 6GB RAM + 128GB storage version. The camera aspect is piloted by a 20Mp + 16MP dual camera setup at the rear while selfies are taken care of by a 13MP shooter with AI features. Another cool feature is that the smartphone runs Android-Oreo-based EMUI 8.0 from the go. It also packs a 3750mAh battery with 5V/4.5A super fast charge. It comes with dual SIM slots and both slots are 4G VoLTE enabled.

Prices & Availability

The Honor V10 comes in Magic Black, Aurora Blue, Beach Gold and Charm Red colour variant. As for the prices, the 4GB + 64GB variant will sell for 2699 Yuan (~$409). The price goes up to 2,999 Yuan (~$454) for the 6GB + 64GB version while the 6GB + 128GB version carries a 3,499 Yuan (~$530) price tag. The prices are quite competitive and so, we’d predict a good outing for this sleek model. Reservations for the smartphone has already commenced while it will go on sale on December 5 at 10.08 via Huawei Mall, Jingdong, Lynx, Suning Tesco and Gome.

Lenovo’s Motorola brand has sent out invites for an event that will hold on October 14 in Shenzhen, China.  The company disclosed in the invitations that they would be launching new products. One of the products expected to debut on that day is the Moto G5S and G5S Plus. The Moto G5S and G5S Plus are relatively no longer new products because they have gone official in Germany as well as in India a couple of months back. But Lenovo is yet to unveil the Moto branded smartphones in its home market which happens to be the world’s second-largest smartphone market.

The Invitation for the event adopted a unique pattern as it contains a card, as well as a grapefruit, enclose in a box. This is perhaps to highlight the fresh new, re-branded Moto line. It must be stated that the invite doesn’t mention the identity of any of the products expected to debut on that day but the Moto G5S and G5S Plus should be among. The China version will come with just 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage unlike the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage combo unveiled in India. As stated earlier, the major upgrade in the Moto G5S Plus is the addition of dual rear cameras. The G5S Plus dual cameras consist of two 13MP rear cameras in the Monochrome + RGB  format with a 3D depth sensor for bokeh effects.

It is no longer news that Korean tech giant Samsung is working on a foldable smartphone. Rumours surrounding the foldable device have been regulars on leaks for the past couple of years now and was even tipped to launch very soon. Samsung Electronics’ President in charge of Smartphone Business  Ko Dong-jin has reportedly disclosed that indeed the company plans to release a foldable smartphone. The Samsung Exec is said to have made this disclosure during the launch of the Galaxy Note 8 in China on September 12. This is perhaps an official confirmation that we should be expecting a foldable smartphone soon.

Another aspect that has been hazy is the design of the foldable smartphone, especially the direction the device would fold towards. The latest rumour is that Samsung has reverted to an “in-folding” design for the foldable smartphone which would see the display fold inwards. The tech giant had earlier been tipped as working on an out-folding design for the display which as you can guess, folds outward. We don’t know the reason for the reversal back to in-folding design but since Samsung had already been working on this design model before, there are enough resources to implement it.

Samsung started out with an in-folding design when it first started developing foldable smartphones but later reverted to an out-folding design before they are now reverting back to the former design. The display uses a 3R curvature which shows how much a display is bent and it indicates curvature that covers a circle with a radius of 3mm. It had carried out many years of R&D on displays, parts, and materials that are related to the in-folding method, so it may likely not experience too much difficulty in adapting this method for commercial purpose.

We expect the Samsung foldable smartphone to drop next and Samsung’s president did reveal that the company’s goal is to release the model in 2018.  He also added;  “We are currently working on few problems and we will release the products once we solve these problems.” The tone of Mr Ko is markedly different from what he said last year during the Note 7’s launch where he indicated that the company’s foldable technology wasn’t up to the level that’ll offer customer satisfaction.

Considering the company’s performance so far, Xiaomi is expected to record a revenue of up to 109.75 billion yuan ($16.8 billion USD) this year. This has made financial analysts to put Xiaomi’s net worth at a whopping $69 billion. This estimation is based on the same Price-Earnings ratio (P/E ratio) which was used to evaluate the company in its 2014 fiscal year where it accrued an estimated $45 billion valuation. Apart from the huge valuation, there are also talks of Xiaomi seeking an IPO, which would bring in more investors and thus help the company expand to new frontiers.

The progress made by Xiaomi was indeed thought to be a tall order when Lei Jun disclosed the target of  70 million shipments for this year back in January. There is no doubt now that Xiaomi has got its act together and is set to challenge for the top 3 spots in the near future. Xiaomi did succeed to climb into the first five top global phone makers in the second quarter of the year and is expected to remain within the quintet for the rest of the year.

The smartphone industry is presently witnessing a proliferation of bezel-less full-screen phones and it is a trend that has caught up with almost all major OEMs in the industry. Those that are yet to get on the train are either about to launch their’s or are still working on their own models. Meizu seems to be one of those still working on its bezel-less smartphone. The idea of a Meizu phone has been in the news for a while now and very recently, a bezel-less Meizu mBlu Zero was spotted online only revealing a part of the bezel-less display.

The Meizu mBlu Zero looks like a device from the Blue Charm product line which has been repositioned and has the premium M6 Note as its first model after the restructuring of the entire Meizu brand. The name very well suggests the device will be in the Blue Charm line and so, it wasn’t very surprising when Meizu’s Li Nan responded to the rumored mBlu device.

For the avoidance of doubt, Li Nan is the President of the Meizu Blue Charm division and he did confirm that they are working on a full-screen phone and it would be released next year. Xiaomi‘s President has sensationally revealed via a Weibo post that the tech giant will be launching the flagship Mi Note 3 soon. Lin Bin didn’t specify if the device will be announced on September 11 but from his previous Weibo post, it certainly will likely launch with the Mix 2. The Xiaomi president had disclosed in an earlier Weibo post that Xiaomi will also announce another product with the Mi Mix 2 billed to go official on September 11.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 3 has featured severally in leaks which point at its likely design as well as its likely specs but Lin Bin also revealed a surprise detail of the Note 3. The CEO in his post hinted that the Mi Note 3 would be a larger version of the flagship Mi 6. The teaser poster he shared along with post also passes across the same message. What this basically suggests is that the Mi Note 3 will have a curved display as well as a glass body like the Mi 6 but will come with a larger size. The Mi 6 features a 5.15-inch display and the Note 3 may come in at 5.7 inches just like the Mi Note 2. Today Xiaomi has already made an announcement that they will release an unexpected yet logical hardware. According to news leaks, this may be similar to Apple’s touchpad, but other sources say it may be a wireless Bluetooth keyboard. And Nubia’s official Weibo has stated, “April 23, what must come, will come”, most likely referring to the 5.5-inch Nubia X6. The news says the model, as a whole, is the same basic X6 configuration. Apple’s iPad has just lost its dominance in the market, at least in the first quarter of 2013. For the first time, sales of Android tablet beat the Apple’s iPad sales.

In a report released by IDC, it was revealed that there are currently 49.2 million tablets have been marketed. And of that number, 27.8 million units are Android tablets. While the iPad is ‘just’ as much as 19.5 million units.

To note, the Android tablet on the market is an accumulation of all the brand value. So, in general, Apple’s iPad is still the most popular tablet brand. Samsung managed to sell their tablet as much as 8.8 million units.

Meanwhile, Windows Tablet also have increased quite good. While the previous period is only got 0.2 percent and now increased to 3.3 percent.
