Caviar has announced the iPhone 2007, a custom version of the iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max designed to celebrate Apple’s 50th anniversary. The luxury customization brand built this limited-edition smartphone with a unique feature: a fragment of the original iPhone 2G motherboard embedded in its back panel.

Design Details

The company designed the iPhone 2007 to honor the 2007 launch of Apple’s first iPhone. Caviar placed the motherboard fragment inside a capsule shaped like Apple’s iconic logo. The capsule sits at the center of the phone’s rear panel, surrounded by engraved lines that mirror the circuitry of the first-generation iPhone.

Caviar constructed the casing of the device from titanium with a black PVD coating. The design includes Steve Jobs’ engraved signature as well. Each phone also features a custom Apple 50 commemorative screensaver, designed exclusively for this edition.

The company limited production to just 11 units globally to enhance exclusivity. Each phone ships in a premium gift box that includes a commemorative coin plated in 999 fine gold and a signature Caviar key featuring gold accents.

Pricing and Availability

The pricing starts at $10,770 for the iPhone 17 Pro (256GB) and goes up to $11,490 for the 1TB version. For the iPhone 17 Pro Max, it starts at $11,270 for the 256GB model and reaches $12,700 for the 2TB version.

PGYTECH is taking a slightly unusual approach to mobile photography with its new RetroVa Vintage Imaging Kit, a Kickstarter project that turns recent iPhones into something that feels closer to a compact mirrorless camera than a phone with accessories bolted on.

The idea isn’t entirely new. Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo have already experimented with external camera modules and add-on optics, but RetroVa is one of the first attempts to bring that concept properly to iPhones.

The kit is designed for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, as well as the iPhone 17 Pro lineup, with hints that future models could also be supported. It’s clearly aimed at users who are happy with their phone but frustrated by the limits of smartphone zoom.

There are two main versions of the kit. The entry-level option is a grip and case combo that adds a proper camera-style handle to the iPhone. It includes a two-stage shutter button, a zoom rocker, a control dial, and extra buttons that can be mapped to settings like ISO or exposure. The goal here isn’t just convenience, it’s to make shooting feel more deliberate and controlled, closer to using a dedicated camera.

The more expensive bundle adds a screw-on 2.35x telephoto extender. When paired with the iPhone 17 Pro’s 4x telephoto camera, this pushes the effective focal length to around 235mm equivalent, or 10x optical zoom. On the iPhone 16 Pro’s 5x lens, it goes up to 12x. The promise is cleaner results than digital zoom can offer, especially for wildlife, sports, or events.

One of the more interesting touches is the built-in microSD card slot for creators, which reportedly allows direct recording of ProRes video. There’s also a companion app with manual controls and a retro-inspired interface, though the grip itself has only a small battery meant to power its controls.

The Kickstarter campaign launched in late January 2026 and has already passed its funding goal comfortably. Shipping is planned for March and April, depending on the kit.

It’s still a crowdfunded product, so there’s the usual risk involved. But for iPhone users who want better zoom and more hands-on control — without buying a new phone or a separate camera — RetroVa is an interesting experiment.

Well, this is wild. A developer has managed to get iPadOS 26 booting on an iPhone 17 Pro Max, giving us an early, unofficial (and probably very unintended) look at Apple’s new desktop-style multitasking squeezed into a phone form factor.

The stunt comes from Reddit user TechExpert2910, who posted a photo showing off iPadOS 26’s brand-new floating windows system on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Apps pop into proper resizable windows, and the macOS-like menu bar sits right at the top like it fully belongs there. X user Duy Tran also shared a demo video showing the appearance of iPad OS 26 on the 17 Pro Max. Honestly? It looks way smoother than you’d expect on a phone.

And while the iPhone’s tall aspect ratio and smaller screen size aren’t perfect for iPad OS, it can be plugged into an external monitor for a desktop-like experience without a Mac or a PC. That’s the point of this modification. Of course, trying this on your main phone would be far from ideal. But on an older iPhone you no longer depend on, it could actually be a fun way to squeeze some extra productivity out of it.

Now, before anyone gets ideas about turning their iPhone into a mini iPad, there’s a catch: Tran says the installation required an exploit Apple already fixed in iOS/iPadOS 26.2. In other words, this isn’t something the rest of us will be doing on a weekend.

Still, the footage makes one thing pretty obvious — these windowed multitasking tools are already running smoothly on current iPhone hardware. Whether Apple will ever flip the switch on them for regular, non-folding iPhones is a much bigger question.

For now, this might be the best preview yet of how Apple can bridge the gap between iOS and iPadOS, and how its long-rumored foldable might behave once it finally unfolds.

But for anyone looking for a blend of raw performance, design, and durability, the OnePlus 15 is certainly more appealing than even the latest and best iPhone.

The OnePlus 15 has outscored the iPhone 17 Pro Max and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max in a recent battery drain test. But as it turns out, Oppo has a device that outperforms the OnePlus 15 by a significant margin. In the latest battery drain test from YouTube creator Lover of Tech, Oppo’s Find X9 Pro (our review) ended up taking the win in a side-by-side rundown with OnePlus’s and Apple’s latest and best.

The test wasn’t anything exotic — just long stretches of heavy tasks chained together until the phones died. Things like shooting 4K/60fps video for an hour, endless scrolling through TikTok and Instagram Reels, YouTube playback, a bit of Subway Surfers and Asphalt, and a WhatsApp video call thrown in near the end. Once that loop finished, it started over again.

All of it was done on cellular data, which is a more realistic way to test battery life than running everything on Wi-Fi, since cellular data is significantly more resource-intensive than WiFi, and the different chipsets (A19 Pro, Dimensity 9500, and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5) likely pair with different modems that vary in efficiency.

As for the results, the OnePlus 15 held up reasonably well, tapping out at 9 hours, 39 minutes, 28 seconds. That’s still more than enough for a full day, probably more like a day and a half for most people. But the Find X9 Pro stretched things out to around 11 hours. The iPhone 17 Pro Max sat at 7 hours, 37 minutes, 42 seconds.

What’s interesting here is that OnePlus made a big deal about sticking to the full 7,300mAh capacity globally. No region-specific downgrades. Oppo did the same with the X9 Pro, so these numbers should translate pretty cleanly no matter where you buy them.

A new battery test has crowned the OnePlus 15 as the endurance champ of 2025, outlasting both the iPhone 17 Pro Max and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.

YouTuber TechDroider ran all three phones through a 13-hour real-world test: three hours of PUBG Mobile, three hours of YouTube streaming, an hour and a half of browsing and Instagram, and nonstop 4K 60fps recording until they dropped.

All started at 100%, and here’s how things ended up:

• Xiaomi 17 Pro Max: 12h 50m
• iPhone 17 Pro Max: 13h 02m
• OnePlus 15: 13h 40m

Pretty close race, but OnePlus managed to hold on for nearly 40 minutes longer than Apple’s flagship.

The iPhone (physical SIM variant) deserves some credit, too — its 4,832 mAh battery kept up surprisingly well against the 7,300 mAh cell in the OnePlus 13 and 7,500 mAh pack inside Xiaomi 17 Pro Max (our review). That’s pure software efficiency from iOS and the A19 Pro chip doing the heavy lifting.

Still, OnePlus takes the win. Its mix of Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a silicon-carbon battery, and software optimizations seems to strike the right balance between performance and efficiency. OnePlus had talked up its performance tuning in ColorOS, and it’s good to see the OnePlus 15 living up to that promise.

And even though the iPhone 17 Pro Max runs on a much smaller battery, it’s neither slimmer nor lighter than its Android rivals:

• OnePlus 15: 8.1 mm, 215 g
• Xiaomi 17 Pro Max: 8 mm, 219 g
• iPhone 17 Pro Max: 8.8 mm, 233 g

It also charges slower and packs a technically inferior heat dissipation system. So, for anyone without a specific preference for iOS, neither performance nor in-hand comfort should be a dealbreaker when picking the OnePlus 15.

Turns out, scratches aren’t the only issue plaguing the iPhone 17 Pro lineup. Multiple users are now posting photos of their new devices showing sudden discoloration.

Photos shared on Reddit show the Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro Max turning into shades of pink or rose gold. The discoloration is affecting the aluminum case, while the matte glass in the middle remains its original shade.

The worst part is that the problem doesn’t seem limited to the orange model. A user on MacRumors Forums has also shared his Deep Blue iPhone 17 Pro with discoloration on the camera bar. 

It’s unclear what’s causing the issue or how widespread it is, but reports are appearing across multiple social media platforms, including Reddit, Facebook, and TikTok. So it may have affected a notable number of users.

One Reddit user suggested the discoloration could be caused by UV light exposure, though it’s hard to believe this theory. Apple obviously knows the phones will be used outdoors.

Nevertheless, if you are one of those affected by this, it’s best to contact Apple Support. Since the devices are all under warranty, they could either repair it or replace the unit altogether. 

Apple made some bold changes with the iPhone 17 Pro’s design this year. The new camera plateau, two-part back design, and switch to good ol’ aluminum after using titanium on iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro. It’s also the first time the Pro models haven’t been offered in a neutral dark or black color.

But these changes may have been affecting users in more ways than one. Hopefully, Apple identifies the cause soon and provides a fix for affected users.

The energy density of smartphone batteries is rapidly increasing, which should contribute to longer runtimes. While the iPhone 17 Pro Max packs a 4,823 mAh battery, Xiaomi’s 17 Pro Max includes a much larger 7,500 mAh cell, yet remains lighter (219 g) than Apple’s largest flagship (233 g). So it’s easy to assume that the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max would outlast the iPhone 17 Pro Max by a significant margin. But a recent battery drain test from TechDroider proved otherwise.

The test included the following phones:

• Xiaomi 17 Pro Max – 7,500 mAh
• iPhone 17 Pro Max – 4,823 mAh
• Galaxy S25 Ultra – 5,000 mAh
• Xiaomi 15 Pro – 6,100 mAh
• Pixel 10 Pro XL – 5,200 mAh
• OnePlus 13 – 6,000 mAh

The test consisted of a heavy gaming session, YouTube playback, web browsing, Instagram usage, and finally 4K video recording until the phones shut down.

While the Xiaomi did outlast every other phone in the test, the iPhone 17 Pro Max died only five minutes earlier, coming second despite having a 36% smaller battery. While the power efficiency of the A19 Pro and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 cannot be compared directly (as the two devices run on different platforms and are optimized differently), the major difference in energy content versus runtime suggests Apple has again done an incredible job with its tightly integrated hardware-software approach. Another battery drain test, involving the iPhone Air and Galaxy S25 Edge last month, also suggested the same.

The complete results were as follows:

• iPhone 17 Pro Max – 13 hours 31 minutes
• Xiaomi 15 Pro – 12 hours 31 minutes

While runtimes may vary depending on factors like platform-specific app optimization (for example, a game running better on iOS than Android) or network conditions (such as using a weak 5G connection instead of Wi-Fi), the test gives a good idea of where the Android phones stand relative to each other—and reinforces that the iPhone 17 Pro Max remains one of the top performers in battery endurance.

Samsung’s S Ultra phones—like the Galaxy S25 Ultra—are still regarded as some of the best camera phones on the market. But Chinese smartphone makers have been striving to improve their imaging prowess too, both by integrating larger optical hardware and by refining image processing. Apple, meanwhile, has moved from 12MP to a fairly large (1/1.28″) 48MP sensor—the same size used on the vivo X200 Ultra.

So how do they stack up in real-world tests? Thanks to Ice Universe, we now have sample images from the iPhone 17 Pro Max, Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra taken in different lighting conditions and at various zoom levels.

Starting with the close-up shot against a bright window, two things stand out: the subject in the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s shot appears the darkest, and Xiaomi’s claims about improved dynamic range extend beyond marketing. Apple lands somewhere in the middle. On closer inspection, the S25 Ultra’s sample also shows the most noise—even though this was a daytime shot.

The trend holds in the outdoor daytime photo. The tree appears completely dark in the S25 Ultra’s sample once again, while Xiaomi’s image keeps detail visible.

In well-lit conditions—the easiest scenario—the Xiaomi and Samsung samples look equally detailed, while the iPhone’s appears a bit softer. This is likely because both Android phones applied artificial sharpening (which can sometimes worsen image quality), while the iPhone left textures more natural. The zoomed-in view of the tree on the right highlights this difference.

The S23 Ultra made a big splash with its 200MP headline figure, and Samsung’s image processing was notably better than many early adopters of a 200MP sensor, but rivals have since caught up. As Chinese brands refined image processing while Samsung stuck with the same hardware, the S Ultra line has started to fall behind. More concerning is that the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra, set for January 2026, is expected to keep most of the S25 Ultra’s camera hardware. Samsung may instead try to push AI-driven enhancements while keeping its bill of materials (BoM) flat—or lower.

Samsung’s goal has clearly been to prioritize design aesthetics over the largest possible camera hardware. But as Ice Universe shows, the protrusion of the S26 Ultra’s camera island is already close to that of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. That means Samsung could have room to redesign the internals for more ambitious upgrades. “Samsung’s ultra-wide camera is underwhelming in specs yet occupies an excessive amount of space within the bump, which is a waste. Meanwhile, Xiaomi cleverly integrates its ultra-wide lens inside the body,” the tipster noted.

While there are rumors of the new iPhone 17 Pro Max’s body being prone to scratches, the new Ceramic Shield 2 has an impressive resistance. You get a tall 6.9 inch OLED panel with 2868×1320 pixels resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with a 1.5K resolution, a brighter 3,500nits of peak brightness, 120Hz refresh rate, and high frequency PWM dimming, and DC dimming support. This screen is protected by the Xiaomi Shield Glass. While the design can be subjective, Xiaomi brings an impressive new dual display design with a smaller 2.9-inch 120Hz secondary screen. The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max just debuted in China for just 4,999 Yuan, which is roughly about 701 US Dollars for its base 12GB + 256GB storage variant. In comparison, the base iPhone 17 is more expensive, arriving at 799 US Dollars. The top of the line iPhone 17 Pro Max model starts from 1,199 US Dollars. The overall experience, ecosystem, availability, and much more come into play when deciding on a phone.

But the near 500 US Dollar price gap is hard to ignore. A wider release should follow in a couple of months, so depending on your region, pricing might play a big role in your purchasing decision. In a statement shared with 9to5Mac, the company said the scuffs on demo units are caused by “material transfer” from the MagSafe stands used in retail displays. A new drop test from YouTube channel PhoneBuff puts the two side by side to see how the materials hold up in real-world falls.

The test used a robotic drop rig to ensure consistency, dropping both phones from 1 and 1.5 meters onto a rough sidewalk-like surface. First up was a drop on the back. Both devices cracked, but in different ways. The S25 Ultra’s rigid titanium frame transferred shock across the entire glass panel, resulting in widespread shattering and even damage around the cameras. The iPhone’s softer aluminum frame absorbed some of the impact, limiting cracks mostly to the smaller glass section, leaving its cameras intact.

Corner drops told a different story. The Galaxy’s titanium held firm with only light scuffing, while the iPhone dented more noticeably—evidence of aluminum’s softer nature. On face-down drops, both screens broke, though Apple’s Ceramic Shield showed some improvement compared to previous models.

At the higher 1.5-meter drops, damage became more severe. The S25 Ultra’s rear glass and camera lens covers were almost completely shattered, while the iPhone picked up additional cracks but still managed to keep its camera lenses intact on the outside.

Apple has previously warned that vibrations—like those from high-powered motorcycle engines—can affect iPhone cameras, and that seems to show here as well. Although the lenses appeared fine on the surface, the main camera lost its ability to focus after the impact.

PhoneBuff scored Samsung slightly ahead overall, but called the result a near tie: aluminum absorbs impacts better across surfaces, while titanium is tougher at pressure points. The takeaway is clear: neither device is immune to drops, and at these prices, a good case remains the best insurance.

Samsung and Apple have gone head-to-head in another camera battle, this time focused on zoom. Popular reviewer SuperSaf recently compared the Galaxy S25 Ultra and iPhone 17 Pro Max across different zoom ranges, and the outcome wasn’t quite what many expected.

Starting at 3x zoom, Samsung looked strong. Thanks to its dedicated telephoto lens, the S25 Ultra produced crisper and more natural images than Apple, which relies on a crop from the main sensor at that level. For anyone shooting quick portraits or closer details, Samsung has the early edge.

Things turned around at 4x. That’s where Apple brings in its own telephoto hardware, and the results were immediately sharper and cleaner than Samsung’s hybrid approach. From 4x through about 4.9x, the iPhone delivered photos with noticeably better definition and less noise.

At 5x, both phones came out nearly tied, with similar sharpness and detail. From there up to 10x, it was hard to declare a clear winner, as both held up well in everyday scenarios.

When zooming way in at 20x and even 40x, the Galaxy S25 Ultra started to show its strength again. Under good lighting, Samsung’s image processing pulled out finer details, especially when capturing distant signs or text.

But in low light, the iPhone stole the show. Its larger telephoto sensor consistently produced brighter, more usable shots at every zoom level, while the S25 Ultra struggled with grain and artifacts due to artificial sharpening.

In the end, Samsung still has the edge in extreme daylight zoom, but Apple’s strong noise control, especially in low-light, makes this one of the closest battles yet between the two brands.

Luxury smartphone customizer Caviar has unveiled its latest limited-edition lineup ahead of Apple’s September 9 iPhone 17 launch. The company introduced the Stealth Collection, featuring two highly exclusive camera-less smartphones: the iPhone 17 Air Stealth Carbon and the iPhone 17 Pro Max Stealth Titan.

Design Details

The iPhone 17 Air Stealth Carbon is based on the upcoming iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to be Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date. iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max

Apple is preparing to introduce its most significant front camera upgrade in years. All iPhone 17 models are expected to feature a new 24MP selfie camera, doubling the resolution found on the iPhone 16 series. This will improve image clarity and provide more flexibility when cropping.

Design

Huawei’s Pura 80 Ultra is bold and unapologetically premium. It retains a modernist aesthetic, with real engineering feats inside. The hefty 233.5g chassis conceals a complex quad-camera system, IP68/IP69 water resistance, and dual telephoto shooters, all integrated into a single rear housing.

Apple, by contrast, is reportedly pulling back from titanium and returning to an aluminum frame for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. That may sound like a step down, but it’s not without purpose. Apple’s new half-glass, half-aluminum back is aimed at improving durability while supporting MagSafe wireless charging.

The horizontal rectangular camera bump, now reportedly aluminum, suggests Apple is finally breaking away from the classic triple-lens square module. Huawei’s Kirin 9020 chip isn’t as efficient or fast as Apple’s silicon on paper, but real-world use cases, especially camera processing and multitasking, still make it feel like a high-performance flagship, especially in regions where HarmonyOS has been replaced with EMUI 15 for better app support.

Connectivity and Ecosystem

Both phones bring Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, and full IP68 certification, but there’s a notable difference in their approach to 5G. Apple is still relying on Qualcomm modems for most models, with its own modem debuting only on the iPhone 17 Air. Huawei’s Pura 80 Ultra, on the other hand, doesn’t support 5G due to U.S. trade restrictions, arguably its biggest Achilles’ heel in global comparisons.

That limitation is hard to ignore, especially for power users and travelers. Apple’s continued dominance in global 5G rollout gives it a tangible edge, especially in Western markets.

Huawei’s Pura 80 Ultra is a technological marvel, especially when it comes to camera versatility and charging speeds. It’s already out and impressing users with some of the most advanced mobile photography tools available.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max, however, is not just another spec bump. Apple is finally rethinking materials, aesthetics, and core hardware while leaning into new camera capabilities and battery improvements. The 17 Pro Max will likely be the more balanced device globally, especially when factoring in software longevity, 5G, and ecosystem integration.

In China and camera-first markets, Huawei might still hold the crown for flagship innovation. But in most international markets, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will probably outpace it with broader appeal and tighter integration with Apple’s ever-expanding ecosystem.

Caviar has introduced a limited-edition iPhone that features a fully functional Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition watch built into the phone’s rear panel. The model, named the iPhone No Time To Die Edition, starts at $49,000 and is limited to just seven units globally.

The company used aerospace-grade titanium and carbon fiber to reconstruct the iPhone’s rear architecture. Caviar integrated the same Omega timepiece worn by Daniel Craig in No Time To Die without affecting the phone’s usability. The mechanical watch remains operational, supports manual winding, and sits beneath a sapphire crystal dome.

Caviar developed the design over five months and produced 15 prototypes before finalizing the structure. The watch is surrounded by concentric titanium rings that reference the gun barrel sequence from the James Bond opening credits. Each ring is precision-milled to within ±0.02mm and polished by hand to create a dual-tone satin and mirror finish.

The phone is compatible with either iPhone 16 Pro Max or upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max models. The Seamaster watch inside is not a replica. It is the original Co-Axial Master Chronometer with a rated precision of ±5 seconds per day and water resistance up to 300 meters.

Buyers receive a collector’s box that includes the phone, official Omega documentation, AirPods Pro 2, Omega travel pouch, winding tools, and Apple charging accessories. Each unit is individually numbered from LE001/007 to LE007/007.

As of now, six of the seven units remain available. Orders can be placed via Caviar’s website or through a personal concierge. The device requires up to six weeks for production and includes white-glove delivery.
