After countless rumors and leaks of one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2017, OnePlus has officially taken the wraps off the OnePlus 5. The company seems to have done a fine job once again with its new flagship, giving you the best specs in the market at an affordable price.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-5.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-137238" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-5.jpg?x44794" alt="oneplus 5 image (5)" width="773" height="614" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-5.jpg 773w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-5-300x238.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-5-768x610.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 773px) 100vw, 773px" /></a></p>
<p>Before jumping on to the specs, let&#8217;s take a look at the price. The OnePlus 5 starts at $479 in the US and €499 in Europe. Compare that to the current Snapdragon 835 flagship smartphones in the market and you know you&#8217;ve got a great price. But this year, OnePlus 5 is all about the cameras. High-end specs can be found on almost all flagships in the market, but what will differentiate them is the camera setup at the back. And OnePlus has given tremendous importance to the camera on the OnePlus 5. Read on to get more details.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>OnePlus 5 Design</h3>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-3.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-137236" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-3.jpg?x44794" alt="oneplus 5 image (3)" width="2048" height="2048" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-3.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-3-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-3-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-3-768x768.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-3-1024x1024.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px" /></a></p>
<p>The OnePlus 5 has turned out to be a complete flagship, but the design could be one area where it might get some criticism. Its resemblance to the iPhone 7 Plus or even the OPPO R11 is surprising. But that doesn&#8217;t change the fact that the phone looks quite refined. The company has deviated from a traditional slate body to a curvier approach. The sides are curved, the back is curved and there&#8217;s focus on some intricate details.</p>
<p>It took over 100 variants in design to finalize this one, which now features a special horizon line that separates the body into two parts. To be honest, we can&#8217;t really say how good or bad the design is based on these pictures or judge how prominent is this horizon line that the company is boasting about. A quick hands on should help us understand the design better.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-2.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-137235" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-2.jpg?x44794" alt="oneplus 5 image (2)" width="1726" height="2048" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-2.jpg 1726w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-2-253x300.jpg 253w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-2-768x911.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-2-863x1024.jpg 863w" sizes="(max-width: 1726px) 100vw, 1726px" /></a></p>
<p>The phone is slim at 7.25mm and super light at 153 grams.</p>
<p>There are two color options available, slate gray and midnight black. From the images, I personally like the slate gray option.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>OnePlus 5 Hardware</h3>
<p>Specs wise, OnePlus has lived up to its reputation. You get the latest hardware in the market with the OnePlus 5 &#8212; a 2.45GHz Snapdragon 835, 6GB /8GB LPDDR4X RAM options, up to 128GB UFS 2.1 dual lane storage and a 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED display with 1080p resolution and sRGB and DCI-P3 color space support. The display is protected by a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-001.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-137244" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-001.jpg?x44794" alt="oneplus-5-001 specs" width="1024" height="576" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-001.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-001-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-001-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></p>
<p>These are some high-end stuff, especially with 8GB RAM on board on the top-end variant. Only a handful of flagships can boast of such high-configuration like the ZenFone AR and the<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/zte-nubia-z17/"> Nubia Z17</a>.</p>
<p>But these specs don&#8217;t make the OnePlus 5 special. The brand has repeatedly proven its prowess in the hardware department, but this year, the real focus is on the dual cameras at the back.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>OnePlus 5 Camera</em></p>
<p>In partnership with DXO Labs, OnePlus has developed a flagship-grade dual camera setup for the OnePlus 5. This consists of two cameras, a 16MP IMX398 sensor with f/1.7 aperture and another 20MP telephoto camera. The company adds that this is the highest resolution camera system on a smartphone today. The focus speed is up by 40% &#8212; thanks to the second camera, there&#8217;s 2X dual camera zoom for clearer long distance shots, improved HDR mode, and a Pro mode.<img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-137237" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-4.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="2048" height="1411" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-4.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-4-300x207.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-4-768x529.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-image-4-1024x706.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px" /></p>
<p>Naturally, with dual cameras, you get the special portrait mode as well. So, you can get some really good portrait shots with a shallow depth of field effect with your OnePlus 5.</p>
<p>But we are seeing these features on almost all of the flagships launched this year. It&#8217;s definitely impressive on paper, but only a real life comparison of the flagship would reveal the quality of the setup at the back. For that, we&#8217;ll have to wait for a few days more.</p>
<p>Up front, you get a 16MP sensor</p>
<p>Apart from the usual set of connectivity features, what&#8217;s worth noting is that the phone keeps the headphone jack. You can use either the USB Type-C port or the 3.5mm dedicated headphone jack to connect your earphones. The vibration motor on the phone is also improved, it&#8217;s now stronger and more silent than the previous generations.</p>
<p>Another big thing about the OnePlus 5 is that it will come with 34 LTE Band support, making it a truly global smartphone. So, you no longer have to worry about the support for your specific LTE band.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>Dash Charge</em></p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/dash-charge-new.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-137243" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/dash-charge-new.png?x44794" alt="dash charge new" width="732" height="466" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/dash-charge-new.png 732w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/dash-charge-new-300x191.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/dash-charge-new-730x466.png 730w" sizes="(max-width: 732px) 100vw, 732px" /></a></p>
<p>Dash charge gets an upgrade on the OnePlus 5 with 5V 2A fast charging speeds. Half an hour should provide you up to a day&#8217;s usage, thanks to a decent 3300mAh battery.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>OnePlus 5 Software</h3>
<p>There are some cool new features in the software department like App Priority which decided which apps should load faster on your OnePlus 5. There&#8217;s a new reading mode as well wherein the ambient light sensor calibrates the display according to the surrounding lighting condition. Other features include expanded screenshot and lower input lag.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oxygenos-new.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-137241" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oxygenos-new.png?x44794" alt="oxygenos new" width="765" height="405" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oxygenos-new.png 765w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oxygenos-new-300x159.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 765px) 100vw, 765px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>All this for just $479! Goes on sale globally from June 27.</p>

That was what we were expecting on the OnePlus 5 but the disappointment in the design continues to build up. The design of the OP5 is again enmeshed in controversy as a couple of leaked protective case has highlighted the similarity between the OnePlus 5 and the recently launched OPPO R11.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-case-4.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-136402" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-case-4.jpg?x44794" alt="OnePlus 5" width="600" height="800" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-case-4.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-case-4-225x300.jpg 225w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The images show the OPPO R11 encased inside the OnePlus 5 protective case and surprisingly, it fits perfectly. All the ports, as well as the power and volume buttons, are rightly positioned where there are cutouts. The dual rear camera and LED flash are also well suited on the casing. In addition, both devices seem to have the same size which would then mean that the OnePlus 5 will come with a 5.5-inch display size.</p>

<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/oneplus-5-case-3/'><img width="300" height="225" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-case-3-300x225.jpg?x44794" class="attachment-medium size-medium" alt="OnePlus 5" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-case-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-case-3-160x120.jpg 160w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-case-3.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a>
<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/oneplus-5-case-2/'><img width="300" height="225" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-case-2-300x225.jpg?x44794" class="attachment-medium size-medium" alt="OnePlus 5" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-case-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-case-2-160x120.jpg 160w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/oneplus-5-case-2.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a>

<p>So, apart from looking like the iPhone 7 Plus, the OnePlus 5 also has a look-alike in the OPPO R11, Despite the similar design, though, the OP5 has a lot of features and hardware which perhaps places it above both models. The OnePlus 5 is coming with the latest power chip in town and would have a massive 8GB RAM on one of its versions. The OnePlus flagship has also been revealed to feature a super-fast UFS 2.1 flash memory.</p>

The upcoming, highly anticipated OnePlus 5 is expected be available for sale the next day, June 21st. OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau has been boosting the hype through social media.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-135055" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/OnePlus-5-actual-image.png?x44794" alt="OnePlus 5 actual image" width="728" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/OnePlus-5-actual-image.png 728w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/OnePlus-5-actual-image-300x185.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px" /></p>
<p>Currently, all we have factually are the images posted by Oneplus’ Twitter account. Revealing the OnePlus 5 sporting two shooters, one monochrome and the other an RGB sensor paired with picturesque photos promoting the idea that OnePlus is putting a clear emphasis on improved picture quality reproduction.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Screen-Shot-2017-06-14-at-10.58.45-AM.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-136280" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Screen-Shot-2017-06-14-at-10.58.45-AM.png?x44794" alt="OnePlus 5 weibo" width="598" height="507" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Screen-Shot-2017-06-14-at-10.58.45-AM.png 598w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Screen-Shot-2017-06-14-at-10.58.45-AM-300x254.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Screen-Shot-2017-06-14-at-10.58.45-AM-95x80.png 95w" sizes="(max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px" /></a></p>
<p>Recently, OnePlus CEO shared a picture of a winding road and commented on its beauty. However, one of the users suggested that this picture is probably a good depiction of the struggles it will take to get hold of the new OnePlus 5 once it launches on June 20. From the commentary, it suggests that OnePlus will have fans overcome a number of ‘winding obstacles’ for the OnePlus 5.</p>
<p>We believe this concern has become more prominent due to the issues with Qualcomm’s short supply of the Snapdragon 835, where other flagship phones, like LG’s G6, have skipped the component to reach the market early.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/9846815ely1fgbtjj77w8j20m80m8tdf.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-135046" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/9846815ely1fgbtjj77w8j20m80m8tdf.jpg?x44794" alt="Oneplus 3T render" width="360" height="360" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/9846815ely1fgbtjj77w8j20m80m8tdf.jpg 360w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/9846815ely1fgbtjj77w8j20m80m8tdf-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/9846815ely1fgbtjj77w8j20m80m8tdf-300x300.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px" /></a></p>
<p>With concern from OnePlus fans about the OnePlus 5’s availability, OnePlus&#8217; CEO stated the release will be a “relaxed and happy” experience, attempting to reassure consumers that OnePlus has enough Snapdragon 835 in stock for this year’s flagship; Pete Lau has seemed very confident when he stated this.</p>
<p>Another concern is the potential price hike of the flagship, suggestions point to a price increase to €550 ($615+), however this figure has not been confirmed.</p>
<p>Only time will tell if there&#8217;s enough stock of the OnePlus 5 to meet its possible huge demand.</p>

The highly-anticipated OnePlus 5 launches on June 20. The announcement was made by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau via his official Twitter account. A few minutes later, the official OnePlus Twitter account also made the announcement.</p>
<p>The event like all other OnePlus launches will be live-streamed at 12:00 PM EDT (4:00 PM GMT). Should we expect new VR glasses this year? We can&#8217;t say yet.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/OnePlus-5-Launch.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-134923" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/OnePlus-5-Launch.jpg?x44794" alt="OnePlus 5 Launch" width="1024" height="512" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/OnePlus-5-Launch.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/OnePlus-5-Launch-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/OnePlus-5-Launch-768x384.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></p>
<p>There will also be pop-up events holding at various locations. It will hold in New York on the same day at 7:00 PM at the Meatpacking District. OnePlus Co-founder Carl Pei and popular YouTuber MKBHD will be present.</p>
<p>It will also hold in Paris on June 21 at 11:00 AM at 213 Rue Saint Honore. Other locations are listed on the <a href="https://oneplus.net//launch">page</a> created for the event.</p>
<p>Yesterday, the date leaked online via an image but was disproved and said to be for the OnePlus 2. Turns out that while that date might have truly been for the OP2 (April 20, 2015), whoever posted it again was giving us a hint.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #ff0000">READ MORE:</span> <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/06/04/no-android-nougat-oneplus-2-oneplus-discontinues-software-support/">No Android Nougat for The OnePlus 2 As OnePlus Discontinues Software Support</a></p>
<p>The OnePlus 5 will be powered by Qualcomm&#8217;s Snapdragon 835 processor. A picture posted by OnePlus hints at the device being smaller than the OP3T. The main feature most people are looking forward to is the camera which is rumored to be dual sensors. Heck! The official launch poster even teases it with the phrase “Focus On What Matters”.</p>
<p>There even appears to be a hint buried in the event page. The box holding the text “Focus On What Matters” moves slightly in both directions like a panorama. Try moving around with your cursor and you should notice it.</p>

The leaked mail is said to be meant primarily to make arrangements for publicity for the release which the mail hints would take place on June 15. Well, the leak could be intentional as part of the publicity, who knows?</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/oneplus-5-22.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-133553" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/oneplus-5-22.jpg?x44794" alt="OnePlus 5" width="600" height="250" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/oneplus-5-22.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/oneplus-5-22-300x125.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>There is no doubt the OnePlus 5&#8217;s launch date is very close by, considering the rate at which the leaks about the device have been streaming out recently. Also,<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/05/25/planning-buy-oneplus-3t-hurry-completely-goes-stock/"> OnePlus recently hinted that the OnePlus 3T would be discontinued</a>, further fueling speculations that the company is already preparing the ground for the OnePlus 5 launch.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/oneplus-5-16.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-130898" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/oneplus-5-16.jpg?x44794" alt="Oneplus 5" width="600" height="378" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/oneplus-5-16.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/oneplus-5-16-300x189.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>

<p>OnePlus 5 is expected to come packing Qualcomm&#8217;s latest Snapdragon 835 processor and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/05/23/oneplus-ceo-confirms-front-fingerprint-oneplus-5/">will have a front fingerprint sensor</a>. These two features, as well as <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/05/18/oneplus-5-name-confirmed-camera-developed-dxo-labs/">the name of the device, have all been confirmed by OnePlus </a>officially. The flagship is also expected with a dual camera setup, 6GB of RAM and Android 7.1 Nougat, among others. We&#8217;ll have to wait for an official press invite or poster from OnePlus to confirm this leaked date.</p>
