The listing confirms that the pre-sale of the Nova 12 lineup will begin at 16:08pm (local time) on Dec. 26 in China. The Nova 12 lineup is said to include four models, such as the Nova 12 Vitality Edition (or Nova 12 Lite), Nova 12, Nova 12 Pro, and Nova 12 Ultra. Each model is expected to cater to different price ranges, with the Vitality Edition likely to be priced at around 1,000 Yuan, the standard version targeting the 2,000 Yuan price range, and the Pro and Ultra versions positioned at the 3,000 Yuan and 4,000 Yuan price range, respectively.

In terms of hardware, it is reported that the Nova 12 Vitality Edition and Nova 12 are said to be 4G models powered by Snapdragon chipsets. The Nova 12 is said to have the Snapdragon 778G 4G chip and support 66W fast charging.

The Nova 12 Pro and Nova 12 Ultra are likely to feature an under-clocked version of the Kirin 9000s chip. For those who don’t know, the homegrown Kirin 9000s was first seen powering the Mate 60 series, which debuted in September and October of this year. It is speculated that the Nova 12 Ultra will also offer two-way satellite communication.

A recent report has already leaked the key specifications of all four devices, along with their configurations and prices. The report also claims that the brand is also working on the Huawei Pocket S2 flip-style foldable phone, but there is no official confirmation on whether it will debut with the Nova 12 lineup. Contradictory reports also suggest that the Pocket S2’s launch has been postponed to 2024.

iPhone 15 Pro struggles to maintain 30fps with Resident Evil 4 Remake

Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro series has been marketed as a powerhouse for gaming, boasting strong performance in AAA games like Resident Evil Village. However, recent tests conducted on the upcoming Resident Evil 4 Remake reveal a less-than-optimal gaming experience on the iPhone 15 Pro, however, the M2 powered iPad Pro ran the game fairly well.

Apple’s push into gaming market meets challenges as Resident Evil 4 Remake shows imperfection on iPhone 15 Pro

MrMacRight conducted performance tests comparing the iPhone 15 Pro, M1 iPad, and M2 iPad with a focus on “Resident Evil 4: Remastered.” The results, as uploaded in a video, indicate that the iPhone 15 Pro struggled to deliver a satisfactory gaming performance. The game, running at a resolution of 1560×720 with MetalFX sharpening technology enabled, consistently fell short of the capped 30 FPS (frames per second) on iOS.

While simpler scenes maintained a relatively stable frame rate, reaching close to 30 FPS, more intense scenarios such as combat caused a significant drop, plunging below 25 FPS and, in some instances, as low as 20 FPS. The graphics experienced severe stuttering during these moments, substantially impacting the overall gaming experience, particularly when using a sniper rifle.

In contrast to Resident Evil Village’s successful adaptation to the iPhone, the iOS version of Resident Evil 4 Remake lacks customizable settings and relies on preset graphics. Notably, the much-anticipated ray tracing feature, previously emphasized by Apple, is notably absent.

One prominent factor contributing to the iPhone 15 Pro’s subpar performance is likely heat dissipation issues. The device experienced rapid temperature increases during testing, triggering a reduction in frequency limit and exacerbating stuttering problems. Interestingly, while the iPhone 15 Pro faced challenges, the iPad Pro equipped with the M2 chip showcased superior performance. Running the game at a higher resolution with a more stable frame rate, the iPad Pro emerged as a more reliable option.

Poco X6 Pro 5G: Global launch expected in late January 2024

The Poco X6 Pro 5G might be launching globally in January 2024. While Poco hasn’t made an official announcement yet, a report by xiaomiui.net suggests that the company may launch the Poco X6 Pro 5G smartphone in the last week of January.

The phone popped up on Xiaomi’s internal test servers running HyperOS suggesting a launch could be imminent.

The rumor is further strengthened by the fact that the Poco X6 Pro has also appeared on certification websites like FCC, NBTC, IMEI, and BIS.

Speaking of the FCC, it revealed some interesting details. The X6 Pro will come in three storage options, and surprisingly, the build materials differ between them. Both the 8GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB versions will have plastic frames, while the other 12GB+512GB variant gets a fancy PU frame.

Rumors suggest the X6 Pro is essentially a rebranded Redmi K70E. If that’s true, we can expect a gorgeous 6.67-inch 1.5K OLED display with an 1800 nits peak brightness and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, it will come with Dimensity 8300 Ultra SoC paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.

Redmi K70E

Camera-wise, the Poco X6 Pro might pack a triple-lens setup on the back. The main sensor will be a 64-megapixel sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) for sharp, steady shots. Joining it will be an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 2-megapixel macro camera. For selfies and video calls, there will be a 16-megapixel front-facing camera.

Likewise, keeping the lights on will be a 5500mAh battery with impressive 90W fast charging support.

While the Poco X6 Pro’s global launch date remains unconfirmed, the January timeline and increasing leaks suggest it won’t be long before we can get our hands on this phone. Stay tuned for the latest updates as we keep you informed on any new developments.

Apple explores Creative Solutions to Overcome Apple Watch Sales Ban

Certain Apple Watch imports were prohibited after the US International Trade Commission (ITC) found in October that Apple had violated Masimo’s patents for a blood oxygen sensor. According to Bloomberg, Apple engineers are “racing” to change the algorithms used for the blood oxygen sensor in the Apple Watch to avoid having to stop selling the watch.

Apple said earlier today that it will stop selling the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 in the United States from December 21. The sources who talked to Bloomberg stated that engineers are reportedly changing how oxygen saturation is calculated and how users receive the data. These adjustments are likely to eliminate technology that is purportedly infringing on Masimo patents.

This action aligns with Apple’s announcement that it is “pursuing a range of legal and technical options” to ensure that sales of Apple Watch can get back on track as quickly as feasible. Hardware covered by Masimo’s patents powers the Apple Watch blood oxygen sensor, and Masimo thinks that a software update won’t be sufficient to resolve the patent infringements. According to Masimo, “the hardware needs to change,” as reported by Bloomberg.

However, the company appears to believe that a software-based solution will be enough, as a representative informed Bloomberg that it is working on submitting a workaround. Given that Apple will need to test the modifications, it seems doubtful that a software update will be released before the end of sales. Updates to the hardware would take at least a few months.

Apple plans a $17 billion rescue for Watch Business to avoid ban in the US
Apple plans a $17 billion rescue for Watch Business to avoid ban in the US

Now, the company has taken the initiative to prepare for compliance with the ITC’s ruling, even if the White House has until December 25 to decide. The Watch Series 9 and the Watch Ultra 2 will no longer be available for purchase at stores in the US from December 21 at 2:00 PM Pacific Time. Additionally, online sales will also stop after December 24.

However, The Apple Watch SE will still be available in other nations in addition to the Apple Watch as it is not equipped with a blood oxygen sensor. The business plans to appeal the ITC’s decision to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit on December 26 if a motion to reconsider is not given.

The following was the statement released by Apple earlier today:

A Presidential Review Period is in progress regarding an order from the U.S. International Trade Commission on a technical intellectual property dispute pertaining to Apple Watch devices containing the Blood Oxygen feature. While the review period will not end until December 25, Apple is preemptively taking steps to comply should the ruling stand. This includes pausing sales of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 from Apple.com starting December 21, and from Apple retail locations after December 24. The decision does not impact sales of the devices in other countries at this time.

Apple's teams work tirelessly to create products and services that empower users with industry-leading health, wellness, and safety features. Apple strongly disagrees with the order and is pursuing a range of legal and technical options to ensure that Apple Watch is available to customers. Should the order stand, Apple will continue to take all measures to return Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 to customers in the U.S. as soon as possible.

This isn’t a scene from a futuristic movie; it’s now a reality, thanks to BeTriton’s latest creation. The company, known for pushing the boundaries of e-bike innovation, has just upped the ante with its new dual-purpose e-bike trailer.

The original Z-Triton was impressive, no doubt, but it was a standalone vehicle. BeTriton’s new model, however, transforms the concept by making it an add-on to your existing e-bike. This trailer, which can be attached to most e-bikes, is particularly suited for the more robust models. It’s like turning your regular bike into a water-ready vessel with just a simple addition!

Let’s talk specs for a moment. The trailer is 1.4 meters wide, so you’ll need to be mindful on narrow paths. But once you hit the water, its 2.4 by 4.5-meter size provides ample space. Powered by an electric motor and two hefty batteries, it promises a fair range and speed, perfect for leisurely explorations.

But here’s a heads-up: quality and innovation like this don’t come cheap. The BeTriton Trailer starts at about $10,807, and the full package with all the bells and whistles goes for around $13,427. It’s an investment, for sure, but think of the doors it opens for adventure.

In a world where we’re constantly seeking new ways to connect with nature and escape the hustle of daily life, the BeTriton e-bike trailer is more than just a product. It’s a symbol of innovation, freedom, and the endless possibilities that lie where the road meets the water.

In a landmark deal, Nio, a leading Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has secured a significant investment of $2.2 billion from CYVN Holdings, an arm of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. This investment marks a pivotal moment not only for Nio but also for the global EV industry, signifying the first major Middle Eastern investment in China’s EV sector.

CYVN Holdings will secure a 20.1% stake in the company

Nio, known for its high-end electric cars, stands among China’s top three EV producers. With this deal, CYVN Holdings will own a 20.1% stake in Nio, reflecting a strong vote of confidence in the company’s future. This investment also brings CYVN two seats on Nio’s board, giving them a substantial influence over the company’s direction.

William Bin Li, Nio’s CEO, expressed his enthusiasm for CYVN’s support and vision, highlighting Nio’s commitment to enhancing its brand, sales, service capabilities, and investment in core technologies.

Nio’s journey has been marked by challenges and achievements. Despite not having turned a profit since its inception in 2014, Nio remains a key player in the competitive EV landscape, which includes over 200 manufacturers in mainland China. The company, along with its peers Xpeng and Li Auto, faces new competition from tech firms like Xiaomi and Baidu entering the EV space.

M1 smart ring with 24-hr Heart rate tracking & a slew of other features unveiled for $38

The smart tech gadgets industry seems to be focused on smart rings at the moment. We say so because of the rate at which new products are launched. A new product known as M1 smart ring has been launched and it can monitor several vitals and activities. It is designed to offer continuous monitoring of a slew of vital parameters and activities. Even though smart rings are an evolving trend, the affordable price of the M1 could further spur demand for this product.

Features

There are several smart ring brands currently in the market, although the number of manufacturers is still quite small. The product is marketed under different names by different companies.

The M1 smart ring is being promoted with an extensive range of functions. It offers continuous heart rate measurement, blood oxygen saturation measurement, and intensity during sporting activities. Post-activity evaluation is possible with the M1 smart ring via its companion app. It also has an integrated pedometer. It should be noted, though, that the product’s capabilities have not been fully established independently.

Precision and accuracy of the measurements of the M1 smart ring can be knotty. For example, the precise measurement of blood oxygen saturation is more complex than heart rate measurement, meaning that the precision of blood oxygen measurement may be relatively lower.

The M1 smart ring can be used when swimming because it is water-resistant up to 5 ATM. The smart ring has a battery life of 5 days while the gadget weighs 3.5g.

Pricing & Availability

As for the pricing, the M1 smart ring is available on Geekbuying for $38. The offer comes with free shipping from China to the US within 45 days. Import taxes for the product will differ across jurisdictions. There is no availability information for the M1 smart ring in other markets outside China and the US. However, it is expected that it will ship to several overseas markets with varying taxes, customs fees, and shipping costs.

Genshin Impact Developer MiHoYo Joins HarmonyOS Ecosystem and Bringing High-Quality Exclusive Games to AppGallery

Huawei is continuing its work on HarmonyOS Next, the operating system at the core of its latest smartphones, such as the Mate 60 series. The potential of this OS is so high, it’s already considered as a significant threat to iOS and Android. However, HarmonyOS has a serious disadvantage compared to its competitors. It lacks as extensive application support, partly due to its relatively young age and the increasing pressure from the United States.

To overcome these challenges, the company is taking steps that bring more apps to its store. For example, we recently mentioned the significance of the McDonald’s app coming to AppGallery. However, aware that this is not enough, Huawei shook hands with MiHoYo to develop games exclusively for HarmonyOS. Here are the details…

MiHoYo Announces Native HarmonyOS App Development, Bringing Popular Games to Huawei Devices

Huawei is making efforts to boost the popularity of HarmonyOS by entering into a collaboration agreement with the Chinese game developer MiHoYo. According to the deal, MiHoYo, known for developing popular games such as Genshin Impact, will be designing exclusive games specifically for the HarmonyOS operating system. Console manufacturers, like Sony, have been using this strategy for a while. They boost their sales by having games that you can only play on their console, like Spider-Man.

Huawei mihoyo HarmonyOS games

The agreement will not only cover exclusive games but also include existing titles. For example, Genshin Impact will gain native HarmonyOS support and operate with much higher performance than before. Additionally, with cross-platform support, it will be possible to play simultaneously with Android and iOS users. These developments are expected to benefit both Huawei and MiHoYo, attracting more app developers to HarmonyOS.

It is still unclear when the new MiHoYo&Huawei games will be released. However, the partnership is a positive sign for the future of HarmonyOS gaming.

Apple to prioritize Vision Pro and wearables over iPhone in 2024

In 2024, Apple is set to shift its focus towards wearable devices, moving away from its traditional emphasis on the iPhone, as reported by Mark Gurman in his “Power On” newsletter. While the iPhone will continue to receive upgrades, there won’t be significant design changes. The iPhone 15’s design will be retained, with the Pro models getting larger screens and the regular models inheriting the Action button.

Apple Wearables

Apple’s Wearable Strategy: Diversifying Beyond the Smartphone

The spotlight will be on the Apple Watch, which is expected to receive a significant redesign, marking a departure from its consistent design language since its inception. Additionally, Apple plans to introduce crucial health features, such as blood pressure and sleep apnea monitoring, enhancing the smartwatch’s health-tracking capabilities.

Apple is also reportedly planning to upgrade the Apple Watch Ultra’s display to a thinner and more power-efficient MicroLED panel, increasing screen size to 2.12 inches, but it’s expected to arrive in 2026 due to production challenges.

The AirPods 4 are also in the pipeline, featuring a refreshed design, a USB-C port, and active noise cancellation. Apple will cater to a broader audience by offering both budget-friendly and premium versions. However, some features like noise cancellation might be exclusive to the higher-end model. The AirPods Max could also see updates like USB-C charging and new color options.

Apple Vision Pro

However, the standout product in Apple‘s lineup for 2024 is the Vision Pro. Despite being a first-generation product, Vision Pro has already demonstrated a remarkable way to engage with the world through virtual headsets. While VR headsets have been around for a few years, with companies like Meta leading the way, Vision Pro truly showcases the potential that VR headsets have been lacking. It is poised to become the go-to choice for professional use, marking a significant innovation for Apple. Although it may take some time to fully flourish, it is expected to generate substantial profits for Apple, similar to the success of AirPods and the Apple Watch.

The Vision Pro, priced at $3,499, boasts a micro-OLED display with a resolution exceeding 4K for each eye. It features a comfortable fabric-lined headset and strap with a modular design to accommodate different face and head shapes. Additionally, it comes with an external battery that provides an extra two hours of battery life. Powered by the M2 chip and a new R1 processor, the Vision Pro operates on visionOS. Meanwhile, there are also some rumors that Apple is developing a more budget-friendly alternative to the Vision Pro headset.

China’s ban on foreign smartphones like iPhone and Samsung escalates, impacting global tech giants

In a move that further intensifies the already strained relations between China and the United States, the Chinese government has expanded its ban on non-Chinese smartphones, specifically targeting iPhones and Samsung Galaxy devices. This ban, initially implemented in select states, has now spread across eight provinces, including prosperous coastal regions, raising concerns about its impact on the global smartphone market.

Motivated by a desire to reduce dependence on US-based technologies, the Chinese government has directed state-affiliated firms and government offices to prohibit the use of non-Chinese smartphones among their employees. The ban encompasses widely popular devices like iPhones and Samsung Galaxy phones, with employees advised against bringing these devices to workplaces.

The ban’s scope has evolved from a few states to a nationwide effort over the past decade, showcasing China’s long-term strategy to promote local technologies and semiconductor chip manufacturing. While the Chinese government officially denies an outright ban on iPhones and Samsung phones, reports suggest varying levels of enforcement across different government agencies, with employees instructed to opt for local brands instead.

This move is expected to have a substantial impact on the global smartphone market, particularly affecting Apple and Samsung. Anticipated reductions in iPhone and Samsung phone sales in China, the world’s largest smartphone market, have already led to a dip in Apple’s shares. Moreover, the ban has created a ripple effect, impacting the share prices of Apple’s suppliers, including LG Innotek and Minebea Mitsumi.

In response to the ban, smaller firms in lower-tier cities are reportedly issuing verbal directives to employees to cease using non-Chinese phones. This unofficial spread of the ban highlights the broader implications for foreign smartphone manufacturers operating in China.

While Apple has not provided an immediate response to the ban, market analysts predict a significant drop in iPhone sales, impacting Apple’s revenue in the coming months and years. In contrast, local Chinese firms like Huawei are poised to benefit from the ban, experiencing increased smartphone sales.

As the ban accelerates and more Chinese agencies and state-backed companies extend the prohibition to their staff, the global tech landscape faces ongoing challenges. China’s promotion of local software and semiconductor chip manufacturing reflects a broader trend of the nation reducing its reliance on foreign technology across various sectors, marking a paradigm shift in the global tech industry.
