Oppo entered the clamshell foldable category with the launch of the Oppo Find N2 Flip in December 2022. Within eight months, the company has now unveiled the successor aptly named Oppo Find N3 Flip.
The latest model arrives with a few improvements over the original. These very same features make it stand out from other similar devices on the market.
As of now, the Oppo Find N3 Flip is limited to China. However, the brand has confirmed global availability for later.
Either way, it will go head-to-head with the aforementioned handsets from Samsung and Motorola in almost all markets. So let’s check out how it is different from its competitors.
All the clamshell foldable smartphones on the market are limited to dual cameras, except for the newly unveiled Oppo Find N3 Flip. The third camera on this device is a 2x telephoto shooter, which is a first on such a product.
Most importantly, these three cameras are not regular sensors. The primary one is a 50MP Sony IMX890, the 2x telephoto lens is equipped with a 32MP Sony IMX709, and the 114° ultra-wide lens is equipped with a 48MP Sony IMX581. On the front, there’s another Sony IMX709 sensor.
All these cameras support autofocus, and therefore, the ultra-wide unit can be also used for macro photography. But only the main sensor has OIS.
These cameras are also tuned by Hasselblad algorithm. Hence, you also get specialized portrait models, XPAN mode, and others.
2. A MediaTek chip runs the show
Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Motorola Razr 40 Ultra, the Oppo Find N3 Flip 3 is powered by a MediaTek chipset. More specifically, it houses a MediaTek Dimensity 9200 SoC, making it the first and the only clamshell foldable with this chip.
The Dimensity 9200 chipset is almost as powerful as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC found inside the Galaxy Z Flip 5. As per benchmarks, it is slightly slower but costs less, which helps OEMs price the device lower.
The Oppo foldable starts at just ¥6,799 compared to Samsung’s ¥7,499 price tag in China. It is worth noting that the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is even more affordable at ¥5,699 as it uses a year-old Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip.
So all in all Oppo Find N3 Flip does not sacrifice on both performance and affordable price tag, thanks to a MediaTek chipset.
3. A convenient feature from OnePlus
OnePlus is known for its alert slider. The feature was once removed but returned again with outcry from the public.
This switch has now made its way to the Oppo Find N3 Flip. Just like triple cameras, it is the only clamshell foldable with a dedicated button for changing sound profiles.
With the alert slider, users can conveniently switch between normal, silent, and vibrate modes without interacting with the cover screen or the main display.
Tesla has a strong presence in the electric vehicle (EV) market and is working hard to become even more prominent in this area. As the demand for self-driving cars is growing rapidly, Tesla might be partnering with Samsung Electronics to gather more advanced chips for its next-generation EVs.
As per a recent report from Business Korea, Samsung is reportedly becoming Tesla’s primary provider for their 5th-generation self-driving chip (HW 5.0). This advanced chip is expected to utilize a cutting-edge 4nm process. Industry insiders have also noted that Tesla’s previous Full Self-Driving (FSD) chip was manufactured using Samsung’s 14nm semiconductors. Elon Musk’s goal of achieving fully autonomous vehicles, both Samsung and TSMC are being considered strong contenders for this partnership.
Earlier this year, news emerged online about a meeting involving Tesla’s Elon Musk and Samsung’s Lee Jae-yong. It was speculated that this meeting aimed to explore a potential collaboration between the two companies. Self-driving technology and semiconductor chips were thought to be the primary focus of interest for this collaboration. We know that Samsung holds a well-known position worldwide as a major semiconductor manufacturer. The strong possibility was that Tesla was trying to get Samsung on this project of autonomous driving chips for Tesla EVs. The full report of this meeting was covered on our website.
In related news, Tesla might be making its way to India by introducing its electric vehicles. The Indian government is also considering lowering the import tax on electric vehicles for automakers that partner with a local manufacturing unit. You can check out the full report by clicking here.
Apple is popularly known for offering longer software support for its devices. It offers six or more years of software updates for its iPhones making users stick to their devices for a long period. However, on the other hand, the Cupertino-giant’s Android counterparts have been lagging in this aspect. While Google is responsible for new changes and features on Android, software support is something that is not in the hands of the search giant but instead smartphone OEMs. Now, a new report reveals that Google might offer longer software support for its Pixel devices thereby extending their lifespan.
Google may offer more OS updates starting with the Pixel 8
Google currently delivers three years of major OS updates and five years of security patches for its Pixel devices. This software update policy came into effect with the Pixel 6’s launch way back in 2021. Soon after many brands joined the bandwagon in offering more than 2 years of software support for selected devices These include OPPO, OnePlus, Vivo etc. Samsung is the only brand that is committed to delivering four years of OS updates for its phones. However, the latest report suggests that Google might be one-upping the South Korean company.
The folks at 9to5Google citing one of their sources reveal that Google might offer a longer software support for the upcoming Pixel 8 series. The search giant is planning to deliver five years of OS updates for its devices powered by a Tensor processor. The company’s proprietary chipset is already capable of receiving five years of software updates. However, it remains to be seen if the Pixel 6 will indeed receive two years of additional OS updates compared to the guaranteed three years when it launched.
With the potential extended software support, Google will surpass Samsung’s four-year software update policy. Smartphones don’t become obsolete as many new features are introduced through app updates and Google Play Services. However, longer software support will take Google close to Apple’s policy. It will also extend the longevity of the smartphones.

The competition in the global smartphone market is in full swing. Companies like Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, and many more are working around the clock to take the lead and attract more users. So, who’s coming out on top? A report by Omdia has revealed the answer to this question. It appears that the Android camp, which consists of dozens of different manufacturers, has not been successful against iOS. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is the most popular phone being shipped around the world, and no one else is even close. Here are the details…
Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro Max is the Most Popular Smartphone Globally, Outselling All Android Devices
Omdia released a report for the first half of 2023 that includes a list of the top 10 best-selling smartphones. According to the report, Apple is way ahead of its competitors. The company sold a total of 79.5 million iPhones. Most of these sales came from the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which sold 26.5 million units. Next were the iPhone 14 Pro with 21 million, the iPhone 14 with 16.5 million, and the iPhone 13 with 15.5 million. Based on this, we can say that Apple’s earnings are nearly $100 billion.
In the fifth spot on the list, we finally see Samsung, making the landscape increasingly interesting. While Apple dominates the global smartphone market with its flagship models, the Korean tech giant has managed to place its Galaxy A14 in fifth place, selling 12.4 million units. The retail price of this device ranges from $200 to $250.
This further highlights the gap between Android and iOS. Although 12.4 million is not a number to be taken lightly, the low price point of this model means that Samsung’s profit margin is relatively low. The only flagship Samsung managed to put on the list was the Galaxy S23 with 9.6 million. The top 10 phones on the list are as follows:
Smartphone makers are constantly looking for ways to improve the camera performance of their phones, even if it means adding a large 1-inch sensor. Some brands have already started using large 1-inch sensors in their flagships, such as Xiaomi and Vivo. Now, Nubia is joining the fray.
Image: Nubia Z50S Pro
Nubia has already used 35mm lenses on some of its flagships, such as the Nubia Z50S Pro and the Axon 40 Ultra. Now, it appears that the company is ready to take things a step further with a phone with a 35mm camera and a 1-inch sensor.
Popular tipster Digital Chat Station has shared an image of the upcoming Nubia flagship smartphone next to the Nubia Z50S Pro. Both phones appear nearly identical, aside from the larger rear camera module on the unreleased handset. This shows how much bigger the camera bump needs to be to accommodate the 1-inch sensor.
(Left) Nubia Z50S Pro | (Right) Upcoming Nubia Phone
The upcoming smartphone is rumored to have a 35mm Sony IMX989 sensor. However, the tipster says that the company will need to “optimize the volume” before launching the smartphone, which could delay its release.
The camera module on the device seems to be designed to be compatible with an external lens. This is similar to the Xiaomi 12S Ultra concept phone from last year, which could be paired with Leica M series professional lenses. However, the 12S Ultra concept phone didn’t make it to the market since the cost of developing and manufacturing such a phone would be expensive. So let’s see what Nubia is up to with its upcoming flagship.
It’s been a month since Samsung launched the fifth-generation Galaxy Z foldables. Both the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 are already available for purchase across the world. The latest generation foldables feature a new Flex Hinge mechanism for improved durability, smooth experience, and dust resistance. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 was subjected to JerryRigEverything’s durability test earlier this month revealing surprising results. Now the clamshell Galaxy Z Flip 5 has undergone the popular YouTuber’s intensive durability test.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 survives durability test
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is a significantly upgraded clamshell foldable phone compared to its predecessor. It has become quite popular among customers in global markets. Zack starts the video by comparing the Z Flip 5 with the Motorola Razr Ultra where the former can be seen with a boxy form factor and smaller secondary screen compared to slim profile and larger display on the latter.
As usual, the video starts with Zack doing a scratch test first on the secondary display. It gets minor scratches at level 6 Mohs hardness scale with deeper grooves at level 7. Samsung is using the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for the exterior screen. The South Korean brand uses ultra-thin glass (UTG) for its inner display. It starts producing scratches at level 2 and deeper grooves at level 3. Fingernail marks are also quite visible. However, this is not surprising as it is in line with previous models. Additionally, Samsung also warns about pressing too hard on the surface. The clamshell foldable phone already comes with a pre-installed screen protector that is not supposed to be removed.
Zack then proceeds to the scrape test which takes scratches on all sides of the anodized aluminium middle frame. The flex hinge on the back is also made up of aluminium and it develops scratches. The back panel of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is also shielded by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus making it resistant to scratches. The YouTuber pours dust and dirt on the inner screen and the hinge at the back. Surprisingly, the device was able to fold completely flat. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is then subjected to a burn test where the outer and inner screens withstand flame for 10 and 15 seconds respectively. The power button that doubles up as a fingerprint sensor was able to register scans with minor scratches, however, after additional abuse, it stopped working completely.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 finally undergoes the most stressful part of Zack’s durability test – the bend test. This is the test that this year’s Google Pixel Fold and Motorola Razr+ didn’t survive. Samsung’s latest generation clamshell foldable came out unscathed! Zack tried to bend it with ample pressure from the backside but it held its ground. This is a true testament to Samsung’s efforts to improve durability. It also gives Galaxy Z Flip 5 an upper hand over the Motorola Razr+.
There have been rumors for a long time that the Galaxy S24 series will use both the Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets. Recent reports say that Samsung has increased production of the Exynos 2400. Now as per TrendForce, Samsung is expected to launch the Exynos 2400 SoC in Q4 2023.
TrendForce, a market research firm, penned a tweet on their wall stating that Samsung has restarted its “in-house AP design project”. This means that the Exynos 2400 chip is likely in development. TrendForce said that Samsung is doing this to maintain its cutting-edge R&D capabilities and expertise in advanced semiconductor manufacturing.
Samsung has opted to restart its in-house AP design project in order to maintain its cutting-edge R&D capabilities and expertise in advanced semiconductor manufacturing. TrendForce reports the new Exynos 2400 chip is slated for release in 4Q23 and it expected to be integrated… https://t.co/lKUXSEdJKU
The tweets also say that the silicon will be launched in Q4 2023 and will be available in the Galaxy S24 series, but only in limited quantities. This is not surprising, as there have been rumors since the beginning that the Exynos 2400-powered models would only be sold in Europe and some parts of Asia. These rumors are now looking more likely to be true.
Meanwhile, earlier rumors suggest that the new Exynos SoC will have a 10-core CPU with a 1+2+3+4 core configuration. The single Cortex-X4 core will run at 3.10GHz, while the two Cortex-A720 cores will run at 2.9GHz, the three Cortex-A720 cores will run at 2.6GHz, and the four Cortex-A520 cores will run at 1.8GHz. All of the cores will be based on the ARMv9 architecture.
Likewise, the SoC will have a new Xclipse 940 GPU, which will be based on AMD’s RDNA2 architecture. As for the memory, it will support LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.

Smartphone distributors have criticized the Rajasthan government and are against the their latest scheme that plans on giving out free smartphones to women. The retailers believe that the move will make a significant impact on their profits. So here are all the details.
Why are smartphone retailers up in arms?
Smartphone retailers are pushing back against the Indian state government’s recent initiative to provide women in Rajashtan with free smartphones. The move to distribute 4 million smartphones by October will take away a large number of potential customers by giving away 500,000 smartphones for free. This would directly impact their profits and likely lead to significant losses, according to the retailers.
The All India Mobile Retailers Association wrote to Rajasthan Chief Minister’s office in a letter that 25 percent of the half a million phones sold in the state every month cost under 10,000 INR. The association added that “These devices are mainly retailed by small-scale businesses who are now struggling with an unenviable situation due to exclusive distribution of IGSY (Indira Gandhi Smartphone Yojana) smartphones by an outside agency through a limited number of camps.
What is the new scheme all about?
They further added that the distribution of smartphones is being handled by two agencies, which bypass the existing distribution network in the region. For those unaware, the Rajasthan government had announced the free smartphone distribution scheme earlier this month. With this new initiative, the state aimed on providing free handsets to three groups of females.
This included widowed pensioners, girl students and female heads of families working under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act scheme and the Indira Gandhi Urban Guarantee Scheme. The government will be giving away these smartphones through state-authorized distributors who are holding camps across the state. Those that are eligible for this scheme are given a date and time to queue up for their free smartphone.
