Tesla Model 3 Project Highland spotted again during tests in Xinjiang, China

A prototype of the highly-anticipated upgraded Tesla Model 3 (2023), internally referred to as the “Highland” version, was recently photographed on a road in Xinjiang, China. The model was earlier spotted on a highway in California.

Tesla Model 3 Project Highland

Tesla Model 3 Project Highland expected to start production in September

The vehicle, wrapped in black fabric to conceal its design, aligns with the pattern of camouflage often seen on pre-production models. The sighting has fueled speculation that Tesla might start production in September and initiate deliveries as early as October.

The prototype likely originated from Tesla’s Giga Shanghai production facility, and the road test covered a distance of approximately 2,000 to 2,500 miles from Shanghai to Xinjiang.

This enhanced Model 3 has been developed to strengthen Tesla’s position in the competitive Chinese automotive market. The upcoming model boasts noticeable improvements in both its interior and exterior design.

Sources indicate that the new iteration is slightly longer, lending it a more dynamic appearance. Subtle yet distinct changes, such as the revised front bumper and headlights, have been captured in leaked images. Notably, the vehicle will incorporate Tesla’s advanced Hardware 4.0, enhancing its capabilities for autonomous driving, alongside a sleeker interior design.

While details about the powertrain and battery specifics remain undisclosed, rumors point to the potential use of the 66 kWh M3P battery from CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd.), possibly featuring lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. If accurate, this could translate to improved affordability, safety, and extended range capabilities for the new Model 3.

Yakbike cargo e-trike with an electronic drivetrain unveiled

The Yakbike cargo e-trike has been unveiled and it sports an innovative drivetrain setup. The Yakbike cargo e-trike omits the traditional chain or belt drivetrain found on most e-bikes for an electronic one.

Yakbike e-trike

The Yakbike e-trike is manufactured by the Swiss company Schematic and its crankset is placed directly in line with its flat-front cargo bed. The stability of the Yakbike e-trike is boosted by allowing its front to lean into corners while its rear end remains upright. The Yakbike’s stepless electronic drivetrain avoids the difficulties of incorporating the innovations with a traditional drivetrain.

In terms of operation, the stepless electronic drivetrain is designed to draw power from the rider’s pedaling of the machine. The rider’s pedaling effect spins up a generator that charges the battery. The battery then provides power for the dual 250W rear hub motors. Schematic says the design of the Yakbike is similar to the Free Drive system.

Yakbike cargo e-trike

Each of the Yakbike’s motors delivers up to 170Nm of torque and the e-trike has a top speed of 25km/h. The 48V 5,200Wh lithium-ion battery of the Yakbike delivers a range of 80km on a single charge. The range is further extended to 150km when a second battery is added. The trike’s regenerative braking system also helps to extend its range. The Yakbike also comes with hydraulic disc brakes, LED lighting, and a throttle mode useful when pushing the trike or starting after a stop.

The Yakbike cargo e-trike is available with different cargo modules for extended functionality. It weighs 70kg and can carry a maximum payload of 350kg. The Yakbike e-trike has a starting price of 9,990 Swiss Francs (~$11,371) for the base model with a pickup truck design. Other cargo options include an organic waste bin, a trash bin, and a large Yakbox delivery box.

Apple Takes Steps to Reduce Reliance on China with iPhone 15 Production in India

Apple is counting the days to introduce the iPhone 15 series. That’s why almost every day, there’s a new leak about this highly anticipated phones. For example, we recently told you that the iPhone 15 will come with a 3LD3 chip in its USB-C port and explained the limitations this chip would bring. Now, there’s good news from Apple’s top supplier, Foxconn. The company has started producing the iPhone 15 in India. Here are the details…

Apple’s iPhone 15 Could Be More Affordable Thanks to India Manufacturing

India is steadily becoming one of the world’s major tech hubs. We recently talked about the “Make in India” project and its impact on smartphone production in the country. Following this plan, many tech companies are manufacturing locally in the region. One such company is Foxconn, which produces iPhones for Apple. According to the latest information, Foxconn has started making the iPhone 15 in India.

Apple didn’t just start making the iPhone 15. The company began production in China in the middle of June. But as you know, the tech giant doesn’t want to rely only on China for production. Even though it might save costs, depending on just one place can cause big problems in the supply chain, like we saw during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Also Apple hopes that making the iPhone 15 in India will help to make it more affordable for consumers in the country. India is one of the world’s biggest smartphone markets. However, because of the country’s economic situation, many people choose cheaper and mid-range phones. If Apple can reduce costs by producing locally and avoid some taxes, they can offer better prices and reach more people, increasing their market share.

The Foxconn factory in Sriperumbudur is one of the biggest electronics manufacturing plants in the world, and it employs over thousands of people. The factory is equipped with state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and it is capable of producing a wide range of products, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

The new iPhone 15 series is expected to be announced on September 12th. It will have major upgrades to the camera system and the Pro models will have an improved processor. Apple is hoping that the new iPhone will help to revive flagging sales.
