iPhone 15 rumored to feature an enhanced 40W charging and major MagSafe advancements

The yet-to-be-released Apple iPhone 15 has been the subject of much speculation of recent. The next Apple flagship iPhone offerings are rumored to have great charging speed potential. It has been rumored that a major upgrade to Apple’s battery tech will see the iPhone 15 coming with a stacked battery pack. The stacked approach is expected to extend the battery life and open up the iPhone 15 to 40W charging.

iPhone 15

Currently, the iPhone 14 has a maximum charging speed of 30W and a leap to 40W speeds is quite significant. A tipster on Twitter, @RGcloudS says that a wired increase to 40W for the iPhone 15 could translate to up to 20W charging speeds via MagSafe. There are however no guarantees that the new tech will berth with the iPhone 15, as some speculations link the tech to the iPhone 16 instead. It is also speculated that Apple’s switch to USB-C has boosted the charging speed for the next-gen iPhones.

It is however clear that there are several other reasons to adduce for a possible bump in charging speeds for the iPhone 15. For one, the stacked battery pack would imply Apple may have navigated over the overheating challenge present under such a scenario. It is noted that 40W charging is still miles away from the gold standard in charging speeds upwards of 100W.

The iPhone 15 is scheduled to be announced in September 2023. As the release date draws nearer, we expect more speculations about the iPhone 15. The model is expected to highlight Apple’s well-known durability and performance.

A leaked internal memo reveals Air India met with Apple to discuss “deep collaboration”. What’s Tim cooking?

A leaked Air India internal memo has revealed that officials from the airline met with Apple officials to discuss possible collaboration. The Air India team led by CEO Campbell Wilson recently paid a visit to Apple’s headquarters. The memo highlighted that the meeting was held to explore opportunities for deeper collaboration.

The leaked memo emanated from the CEO, Wilson, and was sent to the staff of the airline via email. It is unclear how the email was leaked to the public but it noted that the company officials visited Apple’s headquarters at Palo Alto. Air India had previously had discussions with Apple on using iPads to enhance inflight navigation for pilots.

There is already a precedent for using Apple iPads inside the cockpit. In 2021, Delta Airlines issued iPads to some of its pilots to help them quickly call up flight charts, equipment manuals, and ancillary data in flight. This was an alternative to the flight bag that pilots carry which can be weighty. The move was expected to make the in-flight activities of pilots to be quicker when communicating with the ground or flight crews.

Air India could be planning an introduction of iPads for its pilots to enhance flight operation. There has been a previous report back in January that stated that Air India has started purchasing iPad tablets for its flight crews. In addition, Wilson in his previous job as CEO of Soot Pte, deployed iPads in place of the in-flight entertainment equipment. Passengers were able to choose from a wider range of entertainment options while Scoot generated revenue from the rentals of the tablet.

The company also saved money in fuel costs as a result of the use of iPads during flights. The arrangement also saw the refitting of the planes with added capacity. The weights of each of the planes using iPads were reduced by about 7% while passenger capacity rose by 40%.

Back in May, Air India announced that it had become one of Apple’s biggest iPad customers. It is however unclear whether Air India has a more expansive collaboration with the Cupertino company beyond iPad deployment. The finer optics of this deep collaboration mentioned in the leaked memo, will be clarified soon, hopefully.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Will Fold Flat Leaving No Gap As Per A New Official Teaser

Samsung is gearing up for its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event on July 26th. It is set to announce the fifth-generation Galaxy Z foldables, the Galaxy Tab S9 series, and the Galaxy Watch 6 series. There have been plenty of leaks and rumors revealing everything about the upcoming devices. Now, Samsung has shared a teaser on its Twitter account that makes one thing clear about the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will fold flat

There have been new entrants in the clamshell foldable phone segment in the last one year. These include the OPPO Find N2 Flip, Vivo X Flip, and Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. Notably, all these devices feature a large secondary display and are able to fold flat. This left the last year’s Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 lagging behind.

However, Samsung has started sharing teasers of the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5. As per the latest teaser video, the upcoming offering will be able to full close flat. This is a huge sigh of relief since the Galaxy Z Flip 4 leaves a gap when it is folded allowing water and dust particles to settle in between. The teaser also reveals a boxy form factor of the upcoming flip phone that has antenna lines and a SIM card tray. However, the rest of the details remain unknown.

The dummy unit of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 showed a gap where the phone folds which is pretty disappointing. However, it remains to be seen on the final device. As per leaks and rumors, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to feature a 3.4-inch 720p secondary display with a folder-like cutout design. It is tipped to have a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The clamshell foldable phone will reportedly be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and be backed by a 3,700mAh battery unit with support for 25W fast charging.

Here are the Terms & Conditions behind Tesla’s Full Self Driving Beta Transfer

In a surprising move during the Q2 2023 earnings call on July 19, Tesla‘s CEO, Elon Musk, announced a development that has left car owners and EV enthusiasts thrilled. For the first time ever, Tesla is allowing owners to transfer ownership of its coveted Full Self-Driving Beta (FSD Beta) – a decision that could have a significant impact on how this cutting-edge technology is accessed and utilized in the near future.

The Full Self Driving package is priced at $15,000 in the United States

Tesla’s offer allows existing owners to transfer their FSD Beta to a new Tesla vehicle during the third quarter, which runs until the end of September. This exciting development aims to incentivize current Tesla owners to upgrade to the latest models without the burden of repurchasing the costly FSD package, priced at $15,000 in the US or available as a monthly subscription at $199 for Basic Autopilot and $99 for Enhanced Autopilot-equipped cars.

Tesla

The terms and conditions for the FSD Beta transfer program have been laid out for eligibility. To qualify, owners must have Full Self-Driving capability in their current Tesla vehicle at the time of delivery of their new vehicle. Furthermore, this offer is only applicable to new Tesla vehicles delivered between July 20 and September 30, 2023.

For those eager to take advantage of the offer, they must either forfeit the FSD capability on their current Tesla or choose to trade in their vehicle directly with Tesla when purchasing a new one. Tesla will then remove the FSD capability from the original vehicle up to one week before the scheduled delivery of the new Tesla, with a short automatic reboot during the process.

It’s essential to note that this transfer can only occur once and cannot be transferred to another vehicle or another individual, even through private sale. Additionally, the offer cannot be combined with other promotions and becomes non-reversible once the new Tesla vehicle is delivered or the FSD capability is removed from the existing vehicle, whichever comes first.

Honor Magic V2 Shatters Sales Records in China’s $550+ Segment

Honor has set the bar high in the foldable category with its latest Magic V2. The thinnest and lightest foldable phone on the market, the Magic V2 makes it clear that the big and bulky foldables are a thing of the past. While the global launch of the Magic V2 is still awaited, the device is already proving to be a hit in China. The phone has shattered sales records in the country, and it is currently the top-selling phone in China’s $550+ segment.

Honor Magic V2 selling like hot cakes in China

Honor today announced that its new folding smartphone, the Honor Magic V2, has broken the first sales record for all phones above $550 in China in 2023. This category includes your typical bar phones like the iPhone 14 Pro Max, Xiaomi 13 Ultra (review), and Oppo Find X6 Pro (review). The company also said the first day sales increased by 655% compared with the same period for the Magic Vs.

Honor-Magic-V2

Honor has sufficient stock of the smartphone but the demand seems to be exceeding the company’s expectations. MyDrivers reports that consumers in China are lining up to buy the Honor Magic V2 in the offline stores. Now that’s something we used to hear about the first few iPhone models.

Honor Magic V2’s popularity can definitely be attributed to its thin and light build. When folded, the device measures only 9.9mm but when you open it, the thickness goes to an impressive 4.7mm. Android Authority goes ahead to call it the “foldable thinner than a ballpoint pen”. Not just the thickness, the weight of the foldable is also quite commendable, scaling at only 237g.

Its specifications are also top-notch. The foldable packs up to Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and a 120Hz AMOLED displays on both outer and inside panels. Magic V2 brings a large 5,000mAh battery with 66W charging support.

Vivo X100 5G global model could feature an inferior processor: Report

Vivo is currently in the process of developing its X100 series flagship smartphones, following the successful launch of the X90 series last year. Traditionally, the brand introduces these devices in the fourth quarter in China, and it is expected that the X100 series will maintain this trend with an anticipated release in late 2023. Ahead of the official launch, TheTechOutlook, in collaboration with tipster Paras Guglani, has leaked the alleged specifications of the Vivo X100 5G global variant.

Vivo-X90-series

Diving straight into the details, the Vivo X100 5G global variant is said to have the model number V2308, and feature an AMOLED 120Hz adaptive refresh rate display. The device will debut globally in three colors: Black, White, and Purple.

The report has brought to light an unexpected revelation, suggesting that the global variant of the Vivo X100 5G will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8 series processor. Prior rumors had indicated that the device in China would feature a MediaTek Dimensity 9300 chipset. This discrepancy could potentially be interpreted as a cost-cutting strategy and may serve as an incentive for customers to opt for the Pro model rather than the standard Vivo X100 5G. However, it’s important to keep in mind that these are all rumors and speculations, and official confirmation from Vivo is still awaited.

Other than that, the brand will make the smartphone available in 128GB and 256GB storage models that will feature a 5,000mAh battery with support for 100W fast charging. On the bright side, the device will debut with a newer Android 14-based operating system.

Apple iPhone users in the UK may soon lose iMessage & FaceTime

Apple might be planning on removing two of its key features from its iPhones in the UK soon. The company’s iMessage and FaceTime platforms could be disabled in the region due to the ongoing regulatory issue.

Apple refuses to comply with the new Online Safety Bill

The Cupertino based giant is in opposition to the new Online Safety Bill similar to WhatsApp and Signal. For those unaware, the UK government is planning on introducing the Online Safety Bill, which will regulate messaging services. In other words, the government will basically be able to monitor your messages to detect CSAM (child sexual abuse material) and other illegal content.

The Online Safety Bill also wants access to end-to-end encryption-based messages. This bill has already faced criticism from WhatsApp and Signal, who have also withdrawn their services from the country. Now, it appears that Apple will also be pulling out the iMessage and FaceTime services since it refuses to make special changes for a single country that can affect its security features. If the bill comes into effect, it will be the biggest threat to the data security and privacy of the UK citizens.

As of right now, the Online Safety Bill is currently under an 8-week consultation period. Tech companies like Apple are hoping that the government will take their feedback into account and revise the bill. So stick around for more as we will be providing updates when additional information is available regarding this matter.
