Samsung Electronics has announced a temporary postponement of its augmented reality (XR) headset development project, signaling a comprehensive reevaluation of its plans. The company recently informed its panel suppliers about the delay, with the original timeline pushed back by approximately 3 to 6 months.
The Implications of Apple’s Vision Pro on Samsung’s XR Project
The decision to reevaluate the XR project was prompted by the unveiling of Apple’s mixed reality (MR) headset, known as ‘Vision Pro.’ Samsung took into account the specifications and features of Apple’s competitor product, leading to a reconsideration of the design, internal specifications, and overall performance of Samsung’s XR offering.
Previously, Samsung collaborated with Oculus in 2014 to release the ‘Gear VR’ headset, followed by the launch of Odyssey Plus in 2018. However, these products failed to gain significant traction due to performance limitations and the lack of a well-established XR market. User feedback also highlighted inconveniences associated with docking the devices with smartphones.
To enhance its XR capabilities, Samsung Electronics established the Immersive Display Lab within its Mobile Experience (MX) Business Unit, dedicated to XR research and development. While specific details about Samsung’s XR devices remain undisclosed, industry experts anticipate the integration of Qualcomm chipsets and Google operating systems (OS) to deliver innovative features. The upcoming products are expected to take the form of goggles, glasses, or headsets and are likely to be compatible with Galaxy smartphones and watches.
Google Messages, the default messaging app on Android phones, is set to enhance everyday communication with the introduction of animated emoji. This new feature aims to add a touch of liveliness to text conversations, complementing the existing support for standard emoji. Although there are some limitations to its usage, the inclusion of animated emoji promises to make chats more engaging.
Limitations and Compatibility of Animated Emoji in Google Messages
Animated emoji within Google Messages were first spotted by Reddit user BruthaBeige and subsequently shared on the Google Messages subreddit. Android expert Mishaal Rahman also received a tip about this visual addition, with another user confirming its existence. However, the feature appears to be undergoing a region-restricted rollout and is not available to all users at this time.
Currently, the animation feature works when a single emoji is sent. Sending multiple emoji or combining text with emoji does not trigger the animation. Despite this restriction, a wide range of emoji available on users’ keyboards can be animated, allowing for greater expression in text messages.
While some details remain unknown, such as the extent of compatibility and specific release plans, it is expected that Google will provide further information about animated emoji as it becomes available to all Google Messages users. Notably, recent updates to the app have included a new badge for RCS (Rich Communication Services) chats and expanded direct reply functionality for users of the web version of Messages.

Honor has a big event scheduled on July 12, where it will unveil its latest Magic V2 foldable. Alongside what is claimed to be the thinnest foldable yet, the company will also launch its latest smartwatch— the Honor Watch 4. The wearable will be the first in Honor’s portfolio to bring eSim capabilities. While we wait for its launch, a tipster has shared its official-looking images on Weibo. Let’s have a look.
Honor Watch 4 brings eSim support
Honor Watch 4 is going to bring a good-looking design, featuring a square dial. The frame is curved and looks like it has a frosted texture. The watch has a single button on the right side. It has been leaked in three straps: black, off-white, and light blue. The latter two styles are printed with the “glory white” logo.
Previously, Jiang Hairong, the CMO of Honor Terminal China, officially confirmed that the new Honor Watch 4 can achieve a long battery life of up to 10 days. Honor has also revealed that the new smartwatch will support eSIM. Currently available eSim smartwatches only have a battery life of 5-7 days in full smart mode.
Other details of the smartwatch are yet to be known. Considering it will bring eSim support, we can expect the watch to offer cellular connectivity similar to a smartphone. You should be able to make calls and send text messages from the watch itself, without having to connect it to your phone’s Bluetooth.
As mentioned, the Watch is launching in China on July 12 alongside the Magic V2. The company is also unveiling a new high-end tablet called the MagicPad 13 and a TV on the same date. Stay tuned to learn more.

The affordable earbuds combine a host of impressive features to provide users with an unparalleled audio experience. The Huawei FreeBuds SE 2 is a direct successor of the FreeBuds SE that was launched in May last year.
The Huawei FreeBuds SE 2 boasts a sleek and ergonomic semi-in-ear design, ensuring a comfortable fit for hours of uninterrupted listening pleasure. The earbuds each weigh just 3.8g making them a set of lightweight earphones that deliver remarkable comfort without sacrificing style.
It is equipped with Bluetooth 5.3 technology and offers a remarkably stable and low-latency connection. The enhanced connectivity ensures an immersive audio experience with minimal lag and reduced power consumption.
Pairing the earphones is effortless thanks to the seamless integration with Huawei devices. Simply open the charging case, and the earphones automatically enter pairing mode. The FreeBuds SE 2 can deliver a single playback time of 9 hours and a cumulative playback time of 40 hours, ensuring that you never run out of power on the go. Additionally, the device comes with fast charging support such that a 10-minute charge can provide 3 hours of playback time.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is launching later this month at Samsung’s unpacked event. The phone is said to be a solid upgrade over its predecessor, bringing a larger folder-shaped cover display and a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. The Korean company was also rumored to replace the previous hinge with a new droplet-style hinge, which was supposed to minimize the gap. However, recently leaked dummies of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 show it will continue to have a hinge gap.
The gap is still there but at least you get a larger cover display
A recent post on Slashleaks features images and a brief video showcasing the dummy unit of the Galaxy Z Flip 5. In the images, you can see a larger folder icon-shaped cover display on the outside, accompanied by two camera modules. The rest of the design seems to be similar to last year’s model, from the fingerprint sensor to the hinge.
The latest leak shows that the gap in the folded Galaxy Z Flip 5 still remains visible. Samsung was rumored to be adopting a new droplet-style hinge design. This hinge design would have left more space for the display to fold, which would have helped to reduce the gap. However, the dummies show the gap is still visible, even with the new hinge design. This is disappointing for some fans, who were hoping for a more seamless folding experience.
It’s worth noting that the dummy units could vary from the original models, so you may not see this visible gap on the units you purchase. Just a reminder, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5, along with a new generation of Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Tab S9, will be unveiled on July 26th.

(Via ITHome)
Further, the tablet is listed to bring two RAM variants— 16GB and 8GB. According to Geekbench 5, the MagicPad 13 achieves a single-core score of 1118 points and a multi-core score of 3585 points. In Geekbench 6, it achieves a single-core score of 1267 points and a multi-core score of 3558 points. On the software front, the tablet runs Android 13, liked skinned by Magic OS 7.
The tablet will feature a good-looking design similar to the Honor 90 series, with slim and symmetrical bezels on the front. It will provide an immersive multimedia experience with its 13-inch 2.8K IMAX Enhanced eye protection screen. The foldable is expected to bring bleeding-edge hardware. It could be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. The company may also launch a Supreme Edition of the device, equipped with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. ChatGPT took the world by storm when it was launched in November last year. It could generate information based on prompts instantly. OpenAI, the Americal AI research laboratory introduced a host of new features for the AI chatbot. Google and Microsoft also jumped the AI chatbot bandwagon with the versions of Bard and Bing respectively. Now, for the first time, it seems that ChatGPT is losing its stream. Read on to know more about this below.
ChatGPT loses its stream for the first time since a late 2022 launch
Source: SimilarWeb
ChatGPT’s traffic on mobile and web versions dipped globally in June for the first time since last November. This also marks the first time the AI chatbot has seen such a decline in the website’s monthly traffic and unique visitors.
Analytics firm SimilarWeb found that the global traffic to OpenAI’s site for ChatGPT fell by 9.7 percent in June. Meanwhile, the rate of unique visitors also dipped by 5.7 percent. Additionally, the amount of time visitors spent on the website was down by 8.5 percent. OpenAI launched the iOS version of ChatGPT in May and it has been downloaded 17 million times globally. However, there was also a decline in downloads of the app.
SimilarWeb reported that the ChatGPT site still attracts more visitors than bing.com, Microsoft’s search engine, and Character.AI. The AI chatbot from OpenAI boasts 1.5 million monthly visitors and is one of the top 20 websites globally. Additionally, other generative AI-based platforms like Google Bard also noticed a tip in traffic. The analytics firm says that the interest in ChatGPT seems to be waning, however, such a conclusion is not easy to draw.
There is no clear indication in behind the decline in traffic and user engagement of ChatGPT. However, it is attributed to summer break for schools and college students, or there may be cases where people spent a brief time with the AI chatbot and then left at least for now.
Google has quietly begun beta testing an upgraded version of Pixel Call Screen, featuring improved capabilities and the potential integration of conversational AI. The beta program was officially announced by Google in mid-May, aiming to enhance user experience and reduce robocalls.
Streamlining Call Screen Protection Levels for Effective Spam Call Management
The beta version introduces two key aspects, starting with an updated user interface for Call Screen settings. Towards the end of May, users noticed simplified settings with new “Protection level” options gradually becoming available. The available options include Maximum, Medium, and Basic, allowing users to customize their call screening preferences.
The most significant modification in this beta is the implementation of natural-sounding voice prompts to identify callers and their purpose. This feature is being tested with selected Pixel 6 and newer device owners in the United States. The AI chipset, Tensor, is required for this functionality, indicating on-device AI usage. The ultimate goal is to enhance Call Screen capabilities and reduce the frequency of spam calls, providing users with more control and peace of mind.
The beta program is expected to be available for Pixel 6 and newer devices within the United States. Google had previously hinted at expanding Pixel Call Screen capabilities with “multi-step, multi-turn conversational AI” later this year. While initial speculation tied this development to the release of the Pixel 8 and large language models (LLMs), the beta announcement confirms that older Tensor devices will also benefit from these advancements.
Google invites users to provide feedback on their experience by using the “Help Us Improve” feedback button within the Phone by Google app. More updates about this project are expected in the coming months.

The schematic reveals that the Xiaomi 14 will feature a flat display on the front with negligible bezels and a center-aligned punch-hole cutout. The back panel of the device has a square-shaped camera module along with a sensor placement that is similar to the current Xiaomi 13 series. However, the camera cutouts are larger for the main and telephoto lenses on the upcoming device compared to its predecessor. There is also an ultra-wide-angle lens and an LED flash unit. The schematic also reveals curved edges on all sides of the Xiaomi 14.
The schematic does not reveal any additional information of the Xiaomi 14. A recent leak revealed that the Xiaomi 14 will be backed by a 4,860mAh battery unit with support for 90W fast charging along with 50W wireless charging. The device is tipped to retain a 1-inch camera sensor along with a 1.33-inch sensor that is still in R&D phase. The upcoming Xiaomi 14 series is tipped to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor under the hood.
