Motorola Edge 40 Pro leak reveals a higher price tag than last gen

Reports suggest that Motorola is preparing to launch new high-end smartphones for global markets, specifically the Moto Edge 40 and Edge 40 Pro, which have been the subject of rumors for some time. It is rumored that one of these phones will be a rebranded version of the Moto X40, which was released earlier this year in China and features the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. A recent report has revealed some specifications of both the Edge 40 and Edge 40 Pro models, and now there are indications of the European pricing for the Pro version.

Motorola

According to reports, the Motorola Edge 40 Pro is expected to come in a single variant featuring 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. This is in contrast to the Moto X40, which the Edge 40 Pro is based on, which offers three memory options, ranging from 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage to 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. A well-known leaker, SnoopyTech, has shared that the Edge 40 Pro is expected to be priced at €899 in Europe, which is €100 more expensive than last year’s Edge 30 Pro.

Moto Edge 40 Pro Specs (Leaked)

According to a recent report, the upcoming Motorola Edge 40 Pro is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, which will be paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The phone is rumored to feature a 6.67-inch curved pOLED display with Full HD+ resolution, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and DCI-P3 color gamut support. The display is said to achieve a peak brightness of 1300 nits and support a refresh rate of 165Hz and a touch sampling rate of 360Hz.

Moto Edge 40 pro

In terms of design, the Moto Edge 40 Pro may come with an aluminum frame and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection on both the front and rear. It is also expected to have an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance and may be available in Quartz Black and Angel Falls colors. Additionally, the phone could be powered by a 4600mAh battery with 125W wired, 15W wireless, and 5W reverse charging capabilities.

As for its camera setup, the Moto Edge 40 Pro may feature a 50MP primary rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and an f/1.8 aperture, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 12MP portrait lens with 2x optical zoom. The front-facing camera is rumored to be a 60MP sensor.

[Update: Statement] OnePlus & OPPO to Stay in EU Markets At Least Until the End of 2023

Update:

Here’s an official statement from OnePlus regarding this story.

OPPO and OnePlus are committed to all the existing European markets and the UK. We had a great start in 2023 with the successful launches of several products in Europe and have a line-up of upcoming products for the rest of the year. As always, OPPO and OnePlus will continue to provide more innovative products and the best-in-class service for users moving forward.

Chinese smartphones have the highest sale numbers in the Asian subcontinent as compared to the rest of the world, and that’s a fact. OPPO and OnePlus are among the leading mobile technology brands in China, offering a range of impressive products that rival those of Apple and Samsung in the US and South Korea. However, recent doubts have been cast over their future in international markets, particularly in Europe.

OnePlus

The leak from Max Jambor, who has a reliable track record in the tech industry, suggested that OPPO and OnePlus would be pulling out of the European market, starting with Germany, UK, France, and the Netherlands. This caused concern among customers and tech enthusiasts alike. Fortunately, an official spokesperson for OnePlus has released a statement clarifying that both companies remain committed to their existing European markets, including the UK. The successful launches of several products in early 2023, such as the OPPO Find N2 Flip and OnePlus 11, demonstrate their continued interest in this region. Moreover, they have a line-up of upcoming products scheduled for release later this year.

While this statement may refute Max Jambor’s claims, it is still unclear what OPPO and OnePlus plan to do beyond 2023. It should be noted that the OnePlus 11 did not launch in Germany due to an ongoing patent dispute, but this does not indicate a total abandonment of the European market by OnePlus. Although the EU and UK markets may not be as significant as the US market, it is unlikely that any major tech company would leave them without a good reason. Whether OPPO and OnePlus have such reasons for considering a pullout will become clearer over time. Until then, interested consumers can freely purchase OPPO and OnePlus devices from European Markets.

A Reddit User with Pixel 5 Allegedly Received the April Security Update a Week Early

In the not-so-distant past, the March security update and the March Feature Drop for most eligible Pixel devices was released one week later than expected on March 13th, causing Pixel 6 series models to wait an additional week until March 20th to install the latest security patches and new features. During this time, the Pixel 6 series faced a serious flaw in Samsung’s Exynos modems, leaving them in dire need of the March security update to patch the vulnerability.

Pixel Update

Although some Pixel 6 series users on Verizon haven’t even received the March update, a Reddit subscriber with a Pixel 5 reported receiving the April security update on March 27th and provided a screenshot as proof. The screenshot shows the Redditor’s device sporting the April 5 security patch with the build number TQ2A.230405.003. Google typically releases monthly updates on the first Monday of each month, with the next expected date being April 3rd. Ironically, a Reddit user reported receiving the March security update way earlier.

If you think you’re that lucky and want to check for available updates on your Pixel device, navigate to Settings > System > System update. However, it is likely that your phone will be up to date. Google is expected to launch the Android 14 Beta program sometime in April, with the Android 14 Developer Preview 2 already available for developers to optimize their apps. The upcoming Android 14 build is nicknamed “Upside Down Cake.” Assuming that Android 14 Beta 1 is released in April, the Android 14 Beta program could reach Platform Stability by June, at which point developers expect no more changes impacting their apps. Pixel users may then join the Beta program with less risk. The final version of Android 14 may be released in August or September.

Apple is Rolling Out iOS 16.4 to iPhones & iPads, New Emoji, Features & More

Apple’s iOS updates are always something to look forward to, similar to Google Pixel‘s feature drops that arrive with a plethora of fun changes, (sometimes) visual overhauls and security patches. Apple announced the iOS 16.4 last month, and as of today, the company is rolling out its latest update to iPhones and iPads. Additionally, updates for the Mac, with MacOS 13.3 and WatchOS 9.4 for the Apple Watch are also live. 21 new emojis are bundled with the new update that includes five new animals, two hand gestures, three colored hearts, and a few household objects like a folding fan, a flute, and maracas.

iOS update

But that’s not all. The updates also come with some nifty features, such as Voice Isolation for cellular calls that blocks out ambient noise, making calls clearer and crisper. The Duplicates album in Photos has also been revamped, and it now cross-checks images stored in the iCloud Shared Photo Library, keeping albums clean and organized. Additionally, a new accessibility feature has been added that dims the screen when it detects flashing lights or strobe effects in video content, making it easier on the eyes.

There are also some bug fixes that come bundled with the update, addressing issues with content management for parents, accidental alarm muting, and other minor glitches. Apple is also reintroducing the new HomeKit architecture that was pulled from iOS 16.2 and MacOS Ventura 13.1 in 2022. Users reported certain Siri commands not working correctly, and smart home devices not showing up in the Home App. These issues have been resolved, and Apple has also fixed the pairing issue with Matter-compatible devices. Users should keep an eye on their notifications and update their Apple devices to enjoy these new features!

The company recently announced that it will not be attending the upcoming in-person E3 event, which is set to take place in Los Angeles on June 13th. Apple iPhone 15 lineup with eSIM-only version to launch in more countries

Apple’s current generation of iPhone 14 lineup comes with eSIM connectivity, continuing the feature that was first introduced a few years back with the launch of the iPhone XS in 2018.

However, for the first time, the Apple iPhone 14 lineup launched in the United States comes without a physical SIM card slot and only supports eSIM connectivity.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro

Now, as per the latest report, it is claimed that the Cupertino-based technology giant is planning to expand this further, and along with the United States, there will be some more countries that will get eSIM-only iPhones this year.

While the list of countries for this feature has not been confirmed yet, the report coming from a French website indicates that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro series will have eSIM-only support in France. If that’s the case, then we expect the company to follow the same in other European countries.

Apple is claiming that the eSIM is more secure than the physical SIM as it is not possible to physically remove them when the device is stolen. Also, the company adds that the user can add and manage up to eight eSIMs in the device, eliminating the risk of swapping SIM cards and keeping them safe when traveling.

More smartphone manufacturers are now bringing devices with support for eSIM and because of this, it is being speculated that eSIM smartphone shipments are expected to increase by 15% this year. Samsung recently introduced eSIM support to its mid-range smartphones with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy M54.

Recent reports say that the Xiaomi Civi phone, which is coming out soon, will be very thin. On the front, the device is expected to feature an AMOLED panel with curved edges and a pill-shaped cutout, which is likely to house a pair of 32-megapixel front-facing cameras.

The final marketing name of the 23046PNC9C is yet to be confirmed. Several reports have said that the next Civi device will be called the Xiaomi Civi 3. However, there is a possibility that the 23046PNC9C will be an upgraded version and not a successor to the Xiaomi Civi 2, which went official in September 2022. Hence, it is likely that the device will launch as the Xiaomi Civi 2s. It is advisable to wait for further reports to know its other specifications and marketing name.

Samsung to Fix Camera App Crashes on Galaxy Smartphones with 30x Zoom

Since its launch, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series has been receiving positive reviews from both consumers and experts. It’s also not uncommon for smartphones to experience issues during their initial launch or after major software updates. As per recent reports, some Galaxy S series users have reported camera app crashes when using high zoom levels, particularly at 30x zoom.

Galaxy S23 Ultra

Samsung has acknowledged this problem and stated that its internal team has confirmed the issue, which occurs when users quickly switch between different cameras on the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S21, and Galaxy S22 series phones. The company has already addressed the issue and plans to release the fix with the next software update, scheduled for April 2023.

It’s worth noting that this issue only affects the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S21, and Galaxy S22 series phones, as the Galaxy S10 series lacks the 30x zoom feature. If users are experiencing this problem with their Galaxy S series smartphones, they can be assured that Samsung will solve it with the upcoming software update.

Additionally, the April 2023 software update will also bring camera optimizations for exposure, HDR, and Night Mode-related issues to the Galaxy S23 series. Overall, while this issue may be frustrating for some Galaxy S series users, it’s good to know that Samsung is actively working to address it and improve the camera experience for its customers. The Galaxy S23 Ultra flaunts a quad-camera setup, highlighted by a large 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor capable of recording up to 8K resolutions at 30fps. China all set to introduce 6G mobile applications by 2025

China is planning to roll out early-stage 6G technology in the mainland. The technical research and launch for 6G technology will be conducted by China Unicom, the third-largest wireless network operator in the country. The company expects to launch introductory early applications by 2025 and plans to roll out complete 6G mobile technology by 2030.

China Unicom Chairman and Chief Executive Liu Liehong said that the early 6G application scenarios will be introduced by 2025 in China, which is home to the world’s largest internet user population and biggest smartphone market. This announcement from China Unicom comes right after last week’s Global 6G Conference wherein experts came to a consensus that the 6G technology will be rolled out in China by 2030.

China’s contribution to the global telecommunications industry is crucial and influential, thanks to its extensive range of application scenarios and the largest user base in the world. Numerous global enterprises are actively engaged in the Chinese market, recognizing its significance in promoting telecom development.

Chinese telecommunications companies are at the forefront of various sectors within the industry, including 5G, 6G, and fixed-line telecommunications. They are collaborating with international institutions to establish industry standards, which helps to mitigate future uncertainties. For instance, China Mobile has published 31 white papers and 60 high-quality papers on 6G, ranking first among global telecom operators. Also China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom, the three major telecom network operators in China, have already begun researching and developing 6G technology for the country.

China has the largest market in crucial fields of the telecom industry, from internet construction to key equipment, with leading companies like Huawei and ZTE. However, the country is facing major challenges in the field of technology due to the pandemic and the ongoing US-China tech war

But if we look at China’s past history, the country has achieved tremendous technological advancements, especially in the field of telecommunications. China has successfully constructed the world’s largest 5G mobile network and there are more than 2.31 million 5G base stations installed throughout the country. And with government support, Chinese telecom companies are likely to repeat the feat with 6G technology.

Samsung Galaxy A03 Core finally getting Major OS update with Android 12

Samsung‘s recent updates have mainly revolved around One UI 5.1 based on Android 13, which is being released for its devices. However, in an unusual turn of events, the Korean tech giant has released the Android 12 update for one of its smartphones that had been stuck on Android 11. The Galaxy A03 Core is the device in question, and it is now receiving the software update in Russia. Here are the details.

As reported by Sammobile, the Samsung Galaxy A03 Core units in Russia have now started to pick up the Android 12 update with firmware version A032FXXU2BWC3. If the Android 12 update is available for the Galaxy A03 Core in their region, users can download and install it by clicking on the notification or going to “Software update” in the Settings app and choosing “Download and install.”

samsung_galaxy_a03

The Galaxy A03 Core was initially released in 2021, and it came with Android 11 pre-installed. According to Samsung’s update policy, the phone should receive three significant OS updates, indicating that it may also receive the Android 13 update later on.

While we wait, the handset has appeared on the Google Supported Devices list. Here are the details.

iQOO Z7x has been spotted on Google’s supported devices list with model number V2272A. While the listing did not reveal any details about the upcoming device, it hinted at a nearby launch. Currently, there’s no official confirmation from the brand. However, a recent report claimed the smartphone will debut in India in April and will be priced between Rs 14,000 and Rs 16,000.

The iQOO Z7x 5G, slated for launch in India, is expected to boast identical specifications to its Chinese counterpart, except for the possibility of supporting slower charging. The smartphone should arrive with a 6.64-inch IPS LCD panel with a center punch-hole. The panel could support an FHD+ resolution, a 19:9 aspect ratio, and a 120hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the smartphone could be powered by the Snapdragon 695 chipset with a 5,000mAh battery, LPDDR4x RAM, and UFS 2.2 storage. For photography, it will get a 16MP front camera, a 64-megapixel primary sensor, and a 2MP depth shooter.
