The Cheap DJI Mini 3 Can Fly Longer Than Its Predecessors

DJI, one of the world’s most popular drone manufacturers, is getting ready to launch the rumored non-Pro version of its Mini 3 drone. According to the posts on Twitter, the unannounced device is already on the shelf at some Best Buy stores, and some people have already bought it. Here are the price and features of DJI’s cheaper Mini 3 drone.

Cheaper DJI Mini 3 could launch very soon

If the photo shared by @ShaneScordamag1 is not fake, the DJI Mini 3 bundle could cost $859.99 with the Fly More kit, which includes the drone and screen-equipped DJI RC remote controller and a two-way charging hub, a shoulder bag, extra propellers, and screws. That’s over $200 cheaper than the $1,098 Mini 3 Pro cost with the same extras. Of course, this price may not seem cheap to some of you, but it should not be forgotten that the Chinese drone aims to professionals.

Non pro version stays in the air longer than its predecessor

This cheaper DJI mini kit also comes with three batteries offering a slightly longer maximum flight time than the up to 34 minutes provided by the batteries included with the Mini 3 Pro. Unfortunately, we only know the Bundle price at the moment, it’s still not clear how much the Mini 3 will cost by itself. Of course, being cheap has some cons.

According to DealsDrone, the standard Mini 3 may drop the front-facing obstacle sensors on its pricier counterpart, and it’s rumored to support a range of 10km (about 6.2 miles), as opposed to the more extended 10-12km range (about 7.4 miles) on the Mini 3 Pro. It looks like the DJI Mini 3 will weigh around 250-grams like its predecessors, which means you won’t need to register it with the Federal Aviation Administration in order to fly it. However, this may vary depending on the drone rules of your country. For this reason, it is useful to do detailed research before flying the drone. Also some leaks about the drone:

  • Sensor 1/1.3-inch
  • 4K HDR video
  • vertical mode
  • 38 min intelligent battery
  • Ocusync 2 (10km range)

Google aims to roll out faster updates for its Pixel phones

Google is apparently planning on making the time it takes to roll out OTA (Over the Air) updates for its Pixel series of smartphones shorter. A new report has revealed that the company is working on offering faster updates for its Pixel line.

The Search Engine tech giant has submitted new patches to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) gerrit to reduce the time it takes the Pixel users to install an update. But according to Android Police and Mishaal Rahman, the patches took just 10 minutes or around 43 percent off the time it usually required to install a 2.2GB OTA update on a Pixel 6 Pro. The patches also reduced the time it took to install a small update of 376MB size to 16 minutes from 22 minutes, which also marked a 27 percent reduction.

Google

Google had first introduced Seamless Updates for Android with Android 7.0 Nougat back in 2016. The first smartphones to get this feature the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, and the Nexus 6P. To put things simply, Pixel phones install OTA updates in the background on an inactive part of the device. Meaning, you can still use the smartphone while till the time the installation is completed. After this, the user will be prompted to reboot their phones as the inactive partition with the update installed switches with the active partition. Now, the company has also reduced the amount of additional storage needed for Seamless Updates with Android 13.

iPhone 14’s SOS Satellite Feature Saved a Man From Freezing to Death

Although Apple’s iPhone 14 has many improvements over the previous model, it has a unique feature. With the latest iPhone 14 series, you can use Emergency SOS via satellite to text emergency services when you’re out of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage. Just a couple of weeks after Apple’s new Emergency SOS service went live in the US and Canada, the first success story is here. A man used his phone to signal a rescue team via satellite after becoming stranded in Alaska.

iPhone 14 saved a man from freezing to death thanks to SOS satellite feature

“On December 1, 2022, at around 2:00 am, the Alaska State Troopers were notified that an adult male traveling via snowmachine from Noorvik to Kotzebue had activated an Apple iPhone Emergency SOS via satellite on his iPhone after becoming stranded. Working with local search and rescue teams, the Apple Emergency Response Center, and the Northwest Arctic Borough Search and Rescue Coordinator, the NWAB SAR deployed four volunteer searchers to the Nimiuk Point area directly to the GPS coordinates provided by the Apple Emergency Response Center. The adult male was located and transported to Kotzebue by the volunteer search team. “There were no injuries reported to troopers,” reads a post by the Alaska Department of Public Safety.

iPhone 14 SOS satellite feature

How to use emergency SOS satellite

According to Apple emergency SOS via satellite can help you connect with emergency services under exceptional circumstances when no other means of reaching emergency services are available. If you call or text emergency services and can’t connect because you’re outside the range of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage, your iPhone tries to connect you via satellite to the help that you need. Samsung has recently announced that a similar feature will appear in the new Galaxy S series.

  • You need iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro with iOS 16.1 or later.
  • To use iPhone 14 SOS satellite feature, open the Settings app.
  • Tap Emergency SOS.
  • Under Emergency SOS via satellite, tap Try Demo, then follow the onscreen instructions.

The service is free for the first two years with every iPhone 14 activation. Unfortunately, it is currently unclear how much the price will be after and is also expected to make its way outside North America, to France, Germany, Ireland, and the UK later this month.

The Shargeek Storm 2 and Storm 2 Slim come in a big retail package, which comprises of following items:

– Power bank
– USB-C to USB-C cable (1,2 metres)
– Tote bag
– User manual

Design and Build

Shargeek Storm 2
Shargeek Storm 2

It goes without saying that one of the USPs of Storm 2 and Storm 2 Slim is that they boast a cyberpunk-style transparent design. Almost all power banks available in the market have a monotonous design, as they just appear like a slab with some indicators that show charging levels. The Storm 2 weighs 595 grams, whereas the Storm 2 Slim weighs 450 grams on my weighing scale.

The transparent casing of the Shargeek Storm is made of hard polycarbonate. The top part of Storm 2 features a color display (not a touchscreen), a physical button, the brand name of the device, and the circuit board housing components like capacitors, ICs, connectors, and other items. The remaining part houses Samsung lithium battery cells (UL9504A recognized). Hence, both are airline-safe products, meaning that they can be carried in your hand luggage on an airplane.

Display, GUI, and Battery Size

The Storm 2 power bank has a 1.14-inch IPS display. As can be seen in the images, the screen is quite clear and shows different colors. The letters V, A, W, and C are displayed on the screen in the units for voltage, current, power, and temperature, respectively.

The topline on the screen shows the port status. The section below shows the Input Status and Output Status. The power bank’s battery indicator is in the top-right corner. Below it, one can see the temperature of the battery pack, the temperature of the circuit board, and the running time. These are visible on the first level of the GUI.

The second level of the GUI can be accessed by long-pressing the physical button. Here users can configure the DC output parameters, view detailed information about the battery pack, change the temperature unit, reset the system time, configure the display settings, turn off, and return to the first-level GUI.

The GUI is made available through the company’s Energy Management OS (EMOS). The same screen and settings are available on the Storm 2 Slim.

Many power banks advertise their highest charging speeds. However, it is only when a voltage current tester is used in between the power bank and the connected device that one can determine the exact charging speeds. With charging speeds shown on the displays of the Storm 2 and Storm 2 Slim, one can easily check whether their devices are being charged at maximum power. The Storm 2 houses a 25,600mAh battery pack, while the Storm 2 Slim has a 20,000mAh battery pack.

Ports and Power Distribution

As for the ports, Storm 2 has two USB-C ports, one USB-A port, and a DC port. The Storm 2 Slim, is a more travel-friendly product since it has a slimmer design with two ports: a USB-C and a USB-A. Both products take around 90 minutes to reach full charge when charged at maximum speeds.

The USB-C port (C1 on Storm 2) offers the fastest charging output. The USB-A port is ideal for charging accessories.

Apple AR/VR Headset Could Be Delayed Due To Software-Related Issues: Ming-Chi Kuo

Apple’s Mixed Reality headset, which has been in the news for the past few months as the upcoming AR/VR device from the technology giant, may get delayed due to software-related issues, reports Ming-Chi Kuo.

According to the report, the long-rumored Apple AR/VR headset is having unspecified software-related issues, which could delay the mass shipments of the device to the second half of next year, i.e. 2023.

Kuo says that the mass shipments for the components of the device are likely to start somewhere in the first half of 2023, but the shipment of the fully assembled device may not begin until the second half of the year, resulting in a delayed launch even if Apple announces the device earlier in the year.

Earlier, Kuo had claimed that the AR/VR device or the Mixed Reality headset from Apple could be announced at a January media event, with mass shipments beginning in the second quarter of the year. It is not yet known whether the delay in shipments would result in a pushback for the announcement of the device.

If the device isn’t announced in early 2023, then the WWDC 2023, somewhere around the month of June should be a good opportunity for the Cupertino-based tech giant to unveil the new device and open up its Software Development Kit (SDK) for developers to create AR/VR applications of the device.

Ming-Chi Kuo also expects the upcoming product from Apple to be on the expensive side when it comes to pricing. He forecasts that because of the pricing, the company will ship less than 500,000 units in the year 2023. We’ll have to wait for a few more weeks or months to know the features and pricing of the device.

Xiaomi Launches the MIJIA Cooking Robot in Germany for €1,199.99

Apart from its thriving smartphone business, Chinese tech giant Xiaomi‘s MIJIA brand is a popular sub-brand with a broad spectrum of product offerings ranging from smart home gadgets to scooters and other appliances. Sadly, most products released in China hardly find their way to the international market. However, one product has just made its way out of China. Xiaomi has released the MIJIA Cooking Robot in Denmark, indicating that the product will be available in other European countries in due course.

MIJIA Cooking Robot

The MIJIA Cooking Robot was first launched in China in September of this year. The product is said to deliver over 35 methods to perform key tasks such as spice grinding, washing, and chopping. There is even a weighing scale on the device for measuring ingredients. The device uses an AI algorithm to assist users in making smart cooking decisions. In addition, Xiaomi claims the cooking robot can be used to prepare up to four dishes at a go as it comes with four different compartments for stewing, boiling, grilling, and steaming.

The cooking robot features an 8-inch LCD touchscreen panel that displays parameters such as recipes and the device’s settings. Apart from the touchscreen control, the cooking robot can be controlled via voice prompt. The entire gadget comes with up to 2.2L capacity and has a maximum heating temperature of 180 °C (~356 °F). It equally packs a peak rotation speed of 12,000 rpm.

MIJIA Cooking Robot

As stated earlier, the MIJIA Cooking Robot is presently on sale in Germany and it is priced at €1,199.99. This is slightly higher than the 6,999 yuan (~US$996) price tag it was launched in China. However, the price is also lower than popular rival products like the Thermomix TM6 Noir which is selling for €1,399 in Germany. It is impressive to see a MIJIA product getting launched outside China. However, there is no indication if the product will make its way into other European markets anytime soon.
