Xiaomi leads the Indian smartphone market in Q3, total market shipments down by 6%

Smartphone shipments are declining globally, and things are not any better in India. Based on the latest Canalys report, a total of 44.6 million units were shipped in India during Q3 (July-September) 2023. This represents a decline of 6% compared to the 36.4 million smartphones shipped in Q2.

Xiaomi retained its lead in the market with 9.2 million units shipped, securing a 21% market share. The brand gained traction from July’s online sales ahead of the festival season. However, Xiaomi’s shipments are down from Q3 2021, when it managed to ship 11.2 million devices and had 24% of the market share.

Indian smartphone shipments Q3 2022

Samsung came second with 8.1 million shipments and witnessed strong momentum in the mid-high-end category thanks to aggressive offers and promotions. The company offered attractive discounts on its older generation Galaxy Z Fold3 and the latest Galaxy S22 series. Vivo and OPPO moved up to the third and fourth place, shipping 7.3 million and 7.1 million units respectively, while Realme dropped to fifth, shipping 6.2 million units.

The shipments of all brands in the top 5 except OPPO dropped significantly. OPPO went from 6.2 million units sold in Q3 2021 to 7.1 million units sold in Q3 2022.

“Early Monsoon and Independence Day online sales were great opportunities for vendors to clear inventory before heading into the festive season,” said Canalys Analyst Sanyam Chaurasia. “The good news is that, as the festival season began, in the last few weeks of the quarter, consumer demand improved. Hit by inflation, entry-level device contribution declined this year, while the mid-to-high segment performed relatively well thanks to aggressive promotions. OPPO’s OnePlus and Vivo’s iQOO were the two brands driving mid-range growth in the e-commerce channel during this period. “Ultra-premium category smartphones, especially older generation flagships, also experienced strong demand momentum amid price cuts.”

Motorola Geneva to carry stylus support, specs & renders leaked online

Motorola’s leaked roadmap revealed the company is planning to launch a slew of smartphones next year. Details about some of those phones have already started to appear online. Now, a new report is here with some specs and renders of an upcoming stylus-equipped Motorola Edge model.

Evan Blass, in collaboration with 91mobiles, has shared the basic specs and good-looking renders of a stylus-equipped Motorola smartphone, codenamed Geneva. The smartphone has model number XT2315 will reportedly be part of the firm’s Edge series.

Motorola Geneva stylus

According to Blass, Geneva will arrive in both 5G-capable and 4G-only variants. It will likely not be a premium device since Motorola’s flagships are only offered in 5G SKUs. Further, the smartphone is said to launch exclusively in the US market sometime next year.

The report suggests Motorola Geneva will debut as a successor to the G Stylus (2022) and G Stylus 5G (2022) handsets that were introduced earlier this year. It is reported to pack up to 6GB RAM and 256GB storage. It will likely be a mid-range smartphone and will be offered in Black Beauty and Crystal Grey colors.

Further, a render of the device reveals its design and appearance. It can be seen to have a dual camera setup, and Motorola logo on the back, and a center-punched hole in the front. The render also showcases a basic stylus that should reside in a silo inside the phone.

The marketing name and other specifications of Motorola Geneva are yet to be known. The exact launch date of the smartphone’s 4G or 5G versions is not yet known. We should learn more about it in the coming days.

Download the Best GCam APK for Realme 9 Pro Plus

Last year’s Realme 9 Pro Plus was quite a popular device at launch in many markets and is still regarded as one of the best smartphones currently available in the lower-midrange segment. There are many reasons for its popularity, including the fascinating color-changing back design and the premium 6.43-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution.

Realme 9 Pro+
Realme 9 Pro+

However, one could say that its standout feature is the camera system that comprises of the Sony IMX766 sensor with optical image stabilization. Hardware-wise, the camera is top notch as this same sensor is used in more expensive and even premium midrange devices. However, the software leaves much to be desired.

To satisfy this desire for better camera software and picture quality, we have found the best GCam Apk for the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus.

For those who are unaware, Google Camera (GCam) is a camera app created for the Android operating system by Google. It was initially supported on all Android 4.4 and later devices, but as time went on, it was made exclusive for Google Pixel devices. In spite of the exclusivity, community developers still create unofficial ports of GCam for other smartphones.

GCam adds a slew of outstanding capabilities to phones, and its post-processing algorithms significantly improve the images. The images clicked using GCam are usually much cleaner than the stock camera and they also have greater details. It also has multiple modes for specific scenarios like Astrophotography, Night Sight, Panorama, Motion Photos, Lens Blur, etc. Additionally, users can also load config files to maximize the functionality of the GCam APK and configure the camera to their preferences and needs.

Download GCam for Realme 9 Pro Plus

You can download the MGC 8.4.600, which is among the most stable version of the GCam out there for the Realme 9 Pro Plus. Many users have tested this version of the GCam and confirmed that it generates better photographs in both well-lit and low-light conditions than the stock app.

Download GCam for Realme 9 Pro Plus from here

Make sure that you are downloading the MGC_8.4.600_A10_V13_MGC.apk, which is the second link on the list.

Download LMC for Realme 9 Pro Plus

Alternatively, you can also download LMC 8.4, which is a modded GCam and comes with some additional features like a Leica preset, Pro mode, and more.

Download LMC from here

It is worth pointing out that according to the users, both of these GCam mods work best without the need for any config file. However, users can feel free to try out config files and see what works for them.

Steps to Install GCam & LMC on Realme 9 Pro Plus

It is quite easy to install an external APK on Realme 9 Pro Plus. Just follow the steps below:

  1. Download the apk file from the above link.
  2. Open the APK, and it will ask for permission to install apps from external or Unknown Sources.
  3. Enable either by simply tapping on the pop-up and proceeding with the instruction, or you can go to Settings > Security/Privacy > Enable Installation from Unkown Sources.
  4. You can now simply launch the installer package or APK file again.
  5. Wait for the process to complete, and you’re ready to use it.

Disclaimer: GCam viewfinder lag is a known issue that occurs on MediaTek processors. Since the Realme 9 Pro Plus houses the MediaTek Dimensity 920 processor, this lag could happen on your device.

First is the long-rumored Pixel Fold, which may very well remain as a rumor, and the other is Pixel 7a, which will likely launch soon. Now, a new report suggests the search giant is working on an unknown high-end Pixel 7 series smartphone, codenamed G10. Here are the details.

91mobiles, in collaboration with Kuba Wojciechowski, has spotted an upcoming Google Pixel device, codenamed G10. It will reportedly have a display measuring 155mm in height and 71mm in width and offer a 3120 x 1440 pixel resolution. The dimensions of the display are said to be identical to that of the 6.7-inch panel on the Pixel 7 Pro.

Further, the report suggests the Pixel G10 will have a design similar to the Pixel 7 series. It will feature rounded corners and have the same center-punched notch. In addition, the smartphone’s display is said to be manufactured by BOE— a Chinese company that supplies displays for Apple’s iPhones. The handset will also feature Qualcomm’s under-display fingerprint sensors.

Details about this upcoming Pixel smartphone are pretty short. The report says Pixel G10 could be an “early-stage prototype” smartphone that may debut before the Pixel 8 series and succeed this year’s Pixel 7 lineup. We should learn more about it in the coming days.

In related news, Google’s latest Pixel 7 source code depository mentions two upcoming devices codenamed “Felix” and “Lynx.” The former refers to the Pixel Fold, which may or may not be a myth. As for the latter, it could be the Pixel 7 Ultra, or the mythical Pixel 7 Mini.

Nvidia RTX 4090 GPU is melting cables, brand starts investigating

Nvidia had just recently announced its RTX 4000 series of graphic cards, with the RTX 4090 being the top end model that came with some impressive performance bumps over the last generation. However, it seems that some of that high performance comes at a cost.

According to a Tom’s Hardware report, Team Green is currently investigating a report from a couple of RTX 4090 GPU buyers. Apparently, a Gigabyte RTX 4090 shared his problem on Reddit, which another user also claimed to have faced. The issue in question is the adapter cable being burnt and melted. For those unaware, the RTX 4090 is provided with a connection for an ATX 2.0 PSU (4 x 8 pin to 16 pin). The original Reddit post even shared pictures of the burnt cables, which had clearly been melted to a point that made them unusable.

Nvidia

On the other hand, the other RTX 4090 owner had an ASUS TUF Gaming OC card. The second user stated that “I was having a gaming session few hours ago, playing Black Desert with my dungeon party. All the sudden the screen went black and all the fans started spinning at 100%. Powered off the machine and after some inspection noticed that the power adapter was damaged.” Tom’s Hardware reached out to Nvidia for a statement, and got the following response: “We are investigating the reports. We are in contact with the first owner and will be reaching out to the other for additional information.”

Interestingly enough, this news is also somewhat similar to the Nvidia Titan Ada GPU that we had covered before, which suffered from a melting issue with PSUs. As of right now, there have only been two such reports where the cable actually melted, at least on Reddit that is. However, we can see that the graphics card maker is already working on finding the root cause of this issue. There is a chance that this was just a very unlucky incident, or perhaps the cables were mounted incorrectly, or other issues with the PC setup. Although, this is just speculation at the moment so take it with a pinch of salt.

According to a new report, a 12 year old girl named Imani Miles had her life saved by the Cupertino based giant’s smart wearable product. She noticed that her Apple Watch was constantly notifying her about her abnormally high heart rate. So after she received several alerts, the girl’s mother Jessica Kitchen felt that something was strange and possibly dangerous. So she took Imani Miles to the hospital for a check up. Here, Imani went through surgery for her appendicitis, but this wasn’t the end of her worries.

The doctors treating the girl found that her appendix had a neuroendocrine tumor. This tumor is rare to find in a person this young, but the medical experts discovered that the tumor had migrated into the other parts of Imani’s body. So, the doctors quickly rushed her into surgery that was necessary to remove cancer from her body. Fortunately, the surgery went well and Imani recovered from the surgery.

Her mother stated that if it weren’t for the Apple Watch she would likely have gone to the hospital much later. By this time, the cancer could’ve had worse impacts on the girl and possibly even been fatal. This isn’t the first time the device has saved lives and we can definitely expect more people to be saved by this piece of modern day technology in the future as well.

ISRO LMV3 rocket launched with 36 OneWeb Satellites

Earlier this week, ISRO announced that it had successfully launched the LMV3 rocket, which carried a payload that consisted of 36 satellites from OneWeb. The launch was carried out by NewSpace India Limited (NSIL).

The rocket was also deployed from the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, India. With this launch, ISRO and NSIL have deployed one of the biggets commercial orders by India’s space organization. Notably, it was also one of the heaviest rockets launched by ISRO. These satellites were launched to a circular low earth orbit of around 601 kilometers with an 87.4 degree inclination. The separation of the satellites also involved a unique maneuver of the cryogenic stage to orientation and re-orientation. The entire process consisted of 9 phases and took around 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete. After this, OneWeb confirmed that it had started receiving signals from the satellites. The company also took to Twitter to announce the successful lift off and launch from ISRO and NSIL.

Notably, this marks the 14th launch from OneWeb, which brings its satellite constellation size to 462. This means that it has reached 70 percent of its goal to launch around 648 Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites fleet that will deliver high peed low latency connectivity across the globe. OneWeb now only needs to go through four more launches to achieve its global coverage plan by 2023. Interestingly enough, OneWeb’s biggest investor is also Bharti Gobal, which is India’s largest telecom operator.
