Moto X40 full specifications revealed, could be first Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phone to debut

Lenovo Group’s General Manager for Mobile Division, Chen Jin, has been teasing the arrival of the Moto X40 since the past few days. At the same time, the device, which has a model number of XT2031-5, has been bagging some vital certifications in China. After getting spotted at 3C, it surfaced with its images on TENAA earlier this week. The updated TENAA listing has now revealed the entire specifications of the Moto X40.

Moto X40 specifications (rumored)

The Moto X40’s TENAA listing (via. TechGoing) reveals that it has a 6.67-inch OLED display. The screen offers a Full HD+ resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels and 10-bit colors. It is integrated with an under-display fingerprint scanner. Reports have claimed that the device will carry support for a 165Hz refresh rate.

The TENAA listing reveals that the Moto X40 is powered by a 3.0GHz octa-core processor, which appears to be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform. The phone will arrive in China with 8 GB / 12 GB / 18 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 128 GB / 256 GB / 512 GB of native storage.

The predecessor model, Moto Edge X30, featured a 5,000mAh battery and supported 68W fast charging. The 3C certification of the Moto X40 revealed that it will also support 68W rapid charging. As far as the battery size is concerned, the listing states that it packs a “4,950mAh / 4,450mAh” battery. It probably houses a 5,000mAh battery.

The listing has no information on the front camera of the Moto X40. However, it is speculated to sport a 60-megapixel selfie snapper like its previous generation model. The back panel of the device has a 50-megapixel + 50-megapixel + 12-megapixel triple camera unit.

The X40 measures 161.3 x 73.9 x 8.5mm and weighs around 196 grams. Now that it has received 3C and TENAA certifications, it appears that it could be one of the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phones to go official. Design

The best design in my opinion belongs to the Redmi Note 12 Pro, specifically in the pink color variant. But the vanilla version is actually thinner, so it is easier to use with one hand. All of these phones are not built with premium materials but they come with the good build quality and the IP53 certification making them dust resistant and splash resistant.

Display

The Pro and the Pro Plus variant are equipped with the same display, better than the one found on the vanilla version. it is an OLED panel able to show up to one billion colors with a diagonal of 6.67 inches, a 120 Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision support, and HDR10+ certification. Unlike the vanilla version, they come with an in-display fingerprint reader and stereo speakers.

Specs & Software

The Redmi Note 12 has an entry-level Qualcomm chipset from the last generation: the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1. With the Pro and the Pro Plus variants, you get a high-end Dimensity 1080 mobile platform by Mediatek running at a max frequency of 2.6 GHz and paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. All of the variants run Android 12 out of the box, customized with MIUI 13.

Camera

The best camera setup belongs to the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus: it is equipped with a triple rear camera including a main 200 MP sensor with OIS, an 8 MP ultrawide shooter, and a 2 MP macro lens, while on the front, there is a 16 MP camera. The Redmi Note 12 Pro takes the silver medal with a 50 MP main sensor with OIS and the same secondary sensors, as well as the same front camera. The vanilla version has a disappointing 48 MP main camera paired with a 2 MP depth sensor.

Battery

All the variants of the Redmi Note 12 are equipped with the same battery capacity: 5000 mAh. Given that their components have more or less the same energy consumption, you should not expect big differences in terms of battery life. But there are important differences when it comes to the charging speeds: the Pro Plus variant supports 120W fast charging, the Pro one has 67W fast charging, and the vanilla version supports 33W fast charging.

Price

The vanilla Redmi Note 12 is available in the Chinese market with a starting price tag of €170 or $170 at the actual change, the Pro variant starts from €240 or $240, and the Pro Plus begins at €300 or $300. Which one would you pick?

Xiaomi shuts its financial services in India, Mi Pay & Mi Credit will not work anymore

Xiaomi has quietly shut down its Mi Financial Services business in India. The decision has been taken as part of its strategic assessment activity and to place a greater emphasis on the core business services in the country. The company has removed its Mi Pay as well as Mi Credit apps from the Google Play Store and its own app store in India.

Xiaomi

Mi Pay, which was launched in India in 2019, has more than 20 million users in the country. The payments app is no longer listed among the recognized UPI apps by NPCI, an umbrella organization that facilitates UPI payments and other services in the country.

Later, the company also introduced the Mi Credit app, which lent customers between $70 to $1,400 at comparatively low-interest rates. The app apparently accessed users’ texts and call logs to look for transaction information and some other details in order to determine their creditworthiness and granted loans to them through partners within minutes.

“As part of the annual strategic assessment activity and as a response to enhanced focus on our core business services, we closed the Mi Financial Services in March 2022. In a short span of 4 years, we were able to connect and support thousands of customers. We are working with our partners and supporting our consumers during this process,” a Xiaomi spokesperson said.

Earlier this year, India’s federal financial crime agency froze $676 million worth of Xiaomi’s assets for allegedly making illegal remittances via royalty payments to foreign entities. However, Xiaomi denies any wrongdoing and has said the action “effectively halted” its operations in its key Indian market.

iPhone 15 Pro models will reportedly come with solid-state power and volume buttons

It’s barely a few months after the launch of the iPhone 14 series in September. Rumours about the next-generation iPhone 15 lineup have already started surfacing on the web. Now, reliable Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared new information on the high-end iPhone 15 models.

As per Kuo, Apple will introduce solid-state power and volume rocker buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. This means that the Cupertino-based tech giant will reportedly ditch the clickable switches. To make it simpler, the current-generation iPhones feature a physical/mechanical button design. The solid-state button design is similar to the home button design on the iPhone 7, 8, and even the SE 2 and SE 3.

The solid-state buttons make users feel like they are pressing physical buttons by offering haptic feedback to confirm presses. In reality, the buttons don’t actually sink in physically. The design change is only expected to be on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. For this, the smartphones will be equipped with Taptic Engines on the internal left and right sides This means that the next-generation Apple flagships could come with three taptic engines in addition to the existing vibration motor. Removing the physical power and volume buttons will also aid in removing two additional ingress points for water and dust, thereby creating a more durable phone.

Kuo adds that high-end Android OEMs are expected to adopt Apple’s solid-state button design to create a new selling point.

As per past reports, Apple has complied with the EU law that requires phone manufacturers to use USB-C ports. This potentially suggests that the iPhone 15 will ditch the lightning port in favour of a USB-C connection. Regardless, buttonless design and a USB-C port seem to be a major highlights for the next-generation iPhones.

Elon Musk’s Twitter acquisition is finally confirmed

Over the last couple of months, the news regarding Twitter being bought up by known billionaire Elon Musk has been on and off. However, it seems like the massive multi billion dollar deal has finally been confirmed.

Elon Musk

For those unaware, Musk had first announced the 44 billion US Dollars acquisition deal earlier this year. However, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla had soon backed out of the deal owing to complications related to transparency in business operations. This then led to lawsuits being filed against the billionaire. But recently, it seemed that things finally worked out and the deal was back on track. Now, Elon Musk has officially confirmed this deal.

But according to a Bloomberg report, CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, Policy Chief Vijaya Gadde and General Counsel Sean Edgett were some of the executives that were laid off following this acquisition. Furthermore, Edgett was reportedly escorted from Twitter’s head office. In other words, it might seem that Musk still has friction over the legal actions that were tanked against him months prior.

Musk even took to Twitter to officially confirm this announcement with a short video of him entering the Twitter headquarters. He stated that “The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence. There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far right and far left wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide our society.”

DJI may launch the new Mavic 3 Classic Drone on November 2

DJI is apparently gearing up to launch a new drone from its popular Mavic series soon. The company has announced that the upcoming Mavic 3 Classic drone will be unveiled on the 2nd of November 2022. So here’s what we know so far.

As per an official teaser trailer, the Chinese drone maker is set to announce the new Mavic 3 Classic on November 2. The upcoming drone in question is believed to be from the Mavic series due to the camera lens that was seen in the recently shared teaser. The sensor looks nearly identical to the Hasselblad camera on the DJI Mavic 3. Although, this model lacked branding and a telephoto lens. But it appears that the cheaper version of its Mavic 3 drone might be the Classic, which would go official on the ‘Explore Vivid’ event next month.

DJI

Furthermore, the new drone also looks similar to the recent image leaks of the Mavic 3 Classic, which were shared by WinFuture. Apart from this, the Mavic 3 Drone had also passed through the FCC certification website as well previously. If the brand decides to launch the Mavic 3 Classic at an aggressive price, we can expect it to be quite an attractive option that might also compete with the company’s existing Mini 3 series of drones.

As of right now, it is unclear just how much the Mavic 3 Classic will cost. Although, we can expect this model to retail somewhere around the 1,400 US Dollars mark. Keep in mind that this is still just speculation so take this with a pinch of salt for now and stick around for more updates.

Global smartphone shipments fall in Q3 2022; only Apple grows year-on-year

Multiple international market research firms Counterpoint Research, International Data Corporation (IDC), and Canalys have revealed the results of the global smartphone shipments during the third quarter of 2022. Q3, 2022 is the period between the month of July to September. OEMs sold 301.9 million units compared to 342 million during the same period last year. Counterpoint Research reveals a 12 percent decline whereas IDC and Canalys represent a figure of 9 percent.

The global smartphone shipments in the third quarter improved compared to the last quarter i.e. Q2, where shipments slipped below the 300 million mark. The market is said to be at the lowest Q3 level since 2014. All three research firms attribute the downfall in shipments to the Russia-Ukraine war, China-US tensions, growing inflation and fear of recession, and weakening national currencies leading to a dent in consumer sentiment. Shipments across Europe and Asia Pacific performed better while emerging markets remained laggards.

As for the OEM performance, Apple was the only company to register a 2 percent year-on-year growth. In Q3, 2022 the Cupertino-based tech giant had a 17 percent market share with 51.9 million shipments. South Korean major Samsung lead the Q3 market with 64 million sales and 21 percent share, however, it declined 8 percent YoY basis. Xiaomi came in third with a 13.4 percent share and 40.5 million shipments. It fell 8.6 percent year-on-year. Vivo and OPPO bagged the fourth spot with 25.9 million sales and 8.6 percent market share. Both companies recorded double-digit declines of 26.3 percent. Chinese brands were able to capitalise on Apple and Samsung’s exit from the Russian market. It’s worth noting that all five OEMs registered positive growth quarter-on-quarter basis.
