Microsoft Surface Duo 3 patent showcases Galaxy Z Fold 4-like design

Microsoft is apparently working on a successor to the Surface Duo 2. A patent has revealed the design of a new Surface product. This might be the Surface Duo 3, which interestingly enough, features a design reminiscent of a foldable Samsung foldable smartphone.

Microsoft

According to a WindowsLatest report, the American tech giant might be planning on launching this new Surface Duo 3 model sometime next year. As of right now, it is still unclear if the company is actually working on a Microsoft Surface branded phone, but previous rumors suggests that the new patent in question is the Surface Duo 3. The new patent application was spotted recently and the documentation showcasing the design of the new device.

As per the official description, the patent is for a ‘FOLDABLE DISPLAY DEVICE,’ which is clearly depicted in the patent images. The application was filed back in 2021 and was published earlier this year. It shows a handheld foldable phone unlike the original Surface Duo that had two separate screen that was joined in the middle with a hinge. This time around, the company is working on making a device with one single display that has a flexible design.

Interestingly, the Microsoft patent also describes this display as being capable for rotating between zero to 360 degrees as well. Looking at the patent images, we can see a foldable phone that can be used as a tablet with the display unfolded or a regular smartphone when the display is folded. In other words, its design is quite similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 from Samsung. Keep in mind that this is still just a patent application.

New Huawei P50 series batch doesn’t feature Leica branding on the rear

Last year, the Huawei P50 series had launched as the company’s then flagship smartphone models. This series included the P50 and P50 Pro, which was later joined by the new P50E model earlier this year. The company has yet to launch a successor to this premium lineup and has continued to sell this series. But it seems, the latest batch of the phones has a slight difference than the original launch variants.

Huawei
P50 Pro with Leica branding

The latest batch of Huawei P50 series have just recently been spotted on the Chinese tech giant’s Vmall online website. Here, we can see that there is one small change in the rear design of the P50 series, which is the lack of the Leica camera lens branding on the back. For those unaware, the Leica logo was typically found underneath the camera module of the P50 series, but this has since been removed in the new batch of the premium grade handsets.

The P50 lineup was officially the last smartphones from the brand to partner with Leica and this change officially marks the end of their cooperation with one another. So now, the base P50, the top end P50 Pro, and mid range P50E will no longer ship with the Leica logo. But despite this change, the price tag of the smartphone series is still the same as it was before.

Huawei
P50 Pro without Leica branding

Although, back in July 2022, the company announced its new imaging solution called Huawei Imaging XMAGE, which would also carry the exclusive logo of Huawei Mobile Imaging. With this, the brand aims to step into imaging technology and showcase its maturity and expertise in the field after years of research and development guided breakthroughs.

Vivo X90 & iQOO 11 series to feature next gen Vivo’s V2 ISP chipset

As we get closer to the year end, brands are gearing up to launch their next gen flagship smartphones. So, a number of new leaks and rumors have started to surface, with the latest one revealing some details regarding the Vivo X90 and iQOO 11 series of flagship smartphones.

Vivo

The news arrives from known tipster Digital Chat Station who shared the information on his Weibo account (a Chinese microblogging website). In the social media post, the tipster shared details regarding the next generation of Vivo V2 ISP chipset. This is basically the successor to the original image processing chip that the Chinese brand had launched for its existing generation of flagship smartphones.

In other words, the V2 ISP will likely makes its way to the flagship handsets of next year, which is the Vivo X90 series and even the iQOO 11 series. The tipster further added that due to chip supply issues that is still affecting the industry’s supply chains, the schedule for the launch conference will likely be shifted. Furthermore, it is also unclear whether Vivo or iQOO would officially unveil their upcoming flagship lineup of smartphones first.

Vivo X80

For those unaware, the last ISP chip from the company has the V1+ processor. This brought support for 3D real time stereoscopic night scene noise reduction, MEMC frame insertion, and AI super division in the hardware. But, we can expect the new chips to bring more new features and even improvements over existing technologies.

Redmi Note 9 Software Support May End Soon: Report

The Redmi Note 9 was launched in 2020. The smartphone also goes by the name of Redmi 10X 4G in China. Despite being more than two years old, the handset is still being sold in multiple regions at cheaper rates.

However, we urge you not to invest in this phone anymore. Because Xiaomi may soon end software support for it.

Redmi Note 9
Redmi Note 9

According to a report by Xiaomiui, Xiaomi has stopped developing internal MIUI builds for the Redmi Note 9.

This suggests that the device will not receive any major software updates going forward. At the same time, it also hints at the imminent end of software support.

The smartphone debuted with MIUI 11 based on Android 10. It was later updated to MIUI 12, followed by Android 11, MIUI 12.5, and MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition.

Earlier this year, the company started testing MIUI 13 based on Android 12 for this handset. This update is currently available for a select few users. We expect it to reach all users across different regions in the coming weeks.

Going by the details above, the software support has not been terrible for the Redmi Note 9. But we cannot deny the fact that the update delivery has been very slow.

Currently, Xiaomi is the only major Chinese OEM to lag in software support. Hopefully, the firm improves in this regard before it’s too late.

Xiaomi Civi 2 Launched: Dual 32MP Selfie Cameras, Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, & More

After teasing for the past few days, Xiaomi has officially launched the Xiaomi Civi 2 in China. The latest lifestyle smartphone from the company arrives with a new design and a spec bump.

It is the first Android phone to have a pill-shaped cutout for the selfie cameras at the top center of the display. Hence, its front looks somewhat similar to that of Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Let’s take a look at what all this handset has to offer.

Xiaomi Civi 2

Xiaomi Civi 2 Design

The Xiaomi Civi 2’s design goes in line with that of the Xiaomi 12 series and the Redmi K50 series. In other words, it features a rectangular island on the rear housing the cameras and an LED flashlight in a triangular fashion separated by lines.

However, its front is unique as it sports a pill-shaped selfie camera cutout at the top center of the display. Like its predecessor, it also flaunts a thin and light form factor.

The Civi 2 measures 7.23mm in thickness and weighs 171.8g. It arrives in three standard colors, such as black, pink, and blue. Additionally, it also comes in a special Hello Kitty Edition sporting white paint job and customized patterns.

Xiaomi Civi 2 Specifications

The Xiaomi Civi 2 is built around a 6.55-inch curved OLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels (FHD+), 120Hz refresh rate, and 10-bit color depth. The screen supports 800 nits peak brightness level, 240Hz touch sampling rate, and 1920Hz PWM dimming.

The Corning Gorilla Glass 5-protected panel has a fingerprint sensor underneath it at the bottom and a pill-shaped cutout at the top. It covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and can play HDR content (Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+).

The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset paired with LPDDR4x RAM, UFS 2.2 storage, and a stainless VC liquid cooling system. It boots MIUI 13 based on Android 12.

It has a triple camera setup on the rear comprising an OIS-assisted 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor, a 20MP Sony IMX376K ultra-wide unit, and a 2MP GalaxyCore GC02M1 macro snapper.

The main highlight of the smartphone is its front camera system. It has dual 32MP sensors inside the pill. The main sensor supports autofocus, while the secondary sensor is fitted with a 100° ultra-wide lens.

These two front cameras are accompanied by quad LED flashlights, which can operate at multiple color temperatures. Xiaomi has also baked in many camera features in the software to make use of the hardware.

Connectivity options on the handset include dual-SIM, 5G, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GNSS, NFC, and USB Type-C. It also comes with other features, like Dolby Atmos-supported dual stereo speakers, linear vibration motor, infrared sensor, 4,500mAh battery, and 67W fast-wired charging support.

Google Pixel 7 spec leak reveals no major changes compared to last generation

Google is gearing up to launch the Pixel 7 series smartphones on October 6th. A recent leak revealed that the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will be sold at the same prices as their Pixel 6 series counterparts. However, looking at the leaks and rumors so far, the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 7 will have a lot more in common other than the price point.

First off, the new Tensor G2 chip on the Pixel 7 will have an updated GPU, NPU, modem, and other hardware. However, the CPU will remain the same.

Tipster Yogesh Brar has posted a spec sheet of the Pixel 7, which states that the Pixel 7 will have a 6.3-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. That is a tenth of an inch smaller than the Pixel 6 display, but otherwise, it is identical.

The rear camera setup will use the same 5OMP Samsung GN1 sensor and the 12MP Sony IMX381 ultra-wide sensor. The selfie camera is said to feature a new 11MP Samsung 3J1 sensor (up from 8MP), which will have autofocus. Even the ‘visor’ design of the camera island will remain the same.

The Pixel 7’s battery is anticipated to have a capacity of around 4,700mAh, which isn’t too far off from the Pixel 6’s battery’s official rating of 4,614mAh. The fast charging is rated at 30W. However, considering the early claims of the Pixel 6 & 6 Pro having 30W fast charging, which later turned out to be 21-23W, we will advise readers to take this info with a pinch of salt.

The memory and storage options will also remain the same as last year (8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB storage), and the device will boot Android 13 out of the box. All specs considered, the Pixel 7 doesn’t appear to be much different from the last generation on the hardware front. So, we will likely have to wait and see if the software experience and optimization are any better.

The OnePlus Nord Watch comes with over 100 online-customizable watch faces. This Nord Watch supports Bluetooth 5.2 and can be controlled via the N Health app for Android and iOS.

Adding to these features, the Nord Watch will offer 105 different 105 fitness modes. Health tracking options will include SPO2, heart rate, and stress monitoring – and the yet-to-be-revealed feature is likely women’s health tracking. We can also expect sleep quality monitoring to tag along as well.

Lastly, the microsite confirms that the wearable will come with a battery capable of up to 10 days of battery life and up to 30 days of standby time. Other than that, rumors have suggested that the smartwatch will come in two color options –  black and blue. It is also expected to have an IP68 level of water and dust resistance.

More features of the OnePlus Nord Watch are scheduled to be unveiled tomorrow, so stay tuned.

Samsung Galaxy S23, S23+ appear on 3C listing with 25W fast charging

Samsung is expected to debut its next generation of flagship devices by January or February 2023. Months ahead of the expected launch, the Galaxy S23 Ultra was spotted on the 3C certification website. Now, the other two devices in the lineup, dubbed the Galaxy S22 and S22+, have also made an appearance on the certification website.

According to the listing, the Galaxy S23 is most likely to have the model number SM-S9110, while the S23+ may have SM-S9160. It reveals that both devices offer 25W fast charging. The Galaxy S23 Ultra 3C certification also revealed the device with 25W fast charging, which is quite odd as the current Galaxy S22 Ultra features 45W fast charging support.

Other than that, the listing does not reveal any further specifications. However, a recent report mentions that the upcoming S23 and S23+ models will mostly be similar to the current-gen S22 and S22+. The only notable difference between the devices will be the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Some markets are also expected to get an Exynos 2300 clad variant of the device.

The S23 will have a 6.1-inch display, while the S23 Plus will have a 6.6-inch display, assuming that the display sizes don’t change. Most likely, both phones will have Full HD+ displays. They might also have a triple-camera system with a 50MP primary camera on the back. Other features are expected to emerge as we get closer to the launch date, so stay tuned.
