China has the world’s largest automobile market, but only 5% use local chips

Back in 2021, the Chinese automobile market was severely impacted by the ongoing chip shortage issue. Meanwhile, a new report has revealed that while China has the largest automobile market, the domestic market only uses 5 percent of local chips.

China

For those unaware, the automobile industry across the globe took a hit due to supply constraints of semiconductors. Despite electric cars and other new energy vehicles becoming more popular, the lack of chips had caused a decline in the market. As of right now, the automobile production and sales of new energy vehicles market in China is the leader in the industry. However, the domestic market’s self sufficiency rate for auto chips is less than 10 percent.

According to a MyDrivers report, this localization rate is less than 5 percent. In other words, despite having the largest automobile market, especially for NEVs, China only uses around 5 percent of locally made chips for the cars it manufactures. In the automotive industry, the MCU chips are the most in short supply. Notably, this chip is also the one which is basically monopolized by foreign chip manufacturers. The only exception to this is BYD, but apart from this brand, there are no other Chinese automakers that manufacture this chips.

China

As per an industry insider, the core chipsets for the automobile industry is basically in the “hands of foreign” manufacturers. The source also added that the China market has a a lot of money but only a few players have the patience to invest. Producing chipsets require money and at least 5 to 10 years worth of time.

The South Korean tech giant made the announcement earlier this week. The “Self Service Repair” program from the Cupertino based giant is planned to launch in early 2022 and is designed to allow users to do their own repairs by sourcing parts and repair manuals from Apple.

As of right now, the brand’s self repair program limited to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 at launch. Similarly, Samsung’s own repair option is also limited at the moment. Snapchat users can now share videos directly from YouTube app

Snapchat has just recently announced a new feature for iOS and Android users. The social media app will now allow users to share videos directly from the YouTube app, rather than having them manually cope and paste a link.

Now, Snapchat users will get a custom YouTube sticker that has the video’s thumbnail instead of a URL. This new feature was announced by the popular social media platform on its official blog. The company stated that it wanted to make it easier for YouTube users to share their favorite clips or videos directly on its app without having to leave the YouTube app.

Snapchat

The company added that “Starting today, all Snapchatters across iOS and Android can seamlessly share their favorite YouTube videos with their friends straight through the Snapchat Camera – no more pesky copying and pasting required!” As per the official notes, this is the first time that YouTube links can be shared on Snapchat with a visual experience.

Apart from the new YouTube sticker, users can also shoot a video, take a photo, or also use the “Creative Tools” when sharing a clip from YouTube.  Simply tapping on the sticker will take the users to the video on the YouTube app or in the user’s default web browser. In other words, this integration is a quality of life change which should also improve the overall user experience as well.

Design

The design is undoubtedly the most noticeable difference between the OnePlus 10 Pro and the OPPO Find X5 Pro. Actually, the Find X5 Pro comes with a more premium design. It is the only last-generation phone with a ceramic body and its look is simply stunning. The OnePlus 10 Pro is built with a glass back and an aluminum frame just like most of the other flagship phones. The OPPO Find X5 Pro is waterproof with the IP68 certification, while the OnePlus 10 Pro is not. The OP10 Pro snapped into half in a bend test made by the famous YouTuber JerryRigEverything, while the Find X5 Pro is a lot sturdier and resistant. So, if you are looking for the best design and build quality, you know what to choose.

Display

The OnePlus 10 Pro and the OPPO Find X5 Pro are equipped with exactly the same display. It is a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel with a Quad HD+ resolution of 1440 x 3216 pixels, the LTPO 2.0 technology enabling an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz, the HDR10+ certification, a peak brightness of up to 1300 nits, one billion colors, an in-display fingerprint reader, and the Gorilla Glass Victus protection. It is one of the most brilliant displays on the market and it comes with great color accuracy. Both the phones feature great stereo speakers as well, and the audio quality provided is similar just like the display performance.

Specs & Software

Even the hardware department is the same: OnePlus 10 Pro and OPPO Find X5 Pro are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform which is currently the most advanced chipset by Qualcomm, as well as an amount of RAM up to 12 GB and up to 256 GB of internal storage. The OPPO Find X5 Pro has a memory configuration with 512 GB of internal storage, but it is exclusive to the Chinese market. The two flagships run Android 12 out of the box customized by ColorOS 12.1, but in the global market, the OnePlus 10 Pro gets OxygenOS 12. It is different customization from the ColorOS, but the ColorOS code base remains the same.

Camera

The most advanced camera belongs to the OPPO Find X5 Pro: both come with Hasselblad natural color calibration, but the Find X5 Pro has a superior main camera that is the Sony IMX766 sensor with a 50 MP resolution. On the other hand, the OnePlus 10 Pro has better zoom capabilities thanks to an 8 MP telephoto lens with OIS and 3.3x optical zoom. The ultrawide cameras are the same: Sony IMX766 with a 50 MP resolution, again.

Battery

Last but not least, the OnePlus 10 Pro and the OPPO Find X5 Pro feature exactly the same battery and the same charging technology. We are talking about a 5000 mAh battery with 80W fast charging and 50W wireless charging, and given that most of the other components are the same, expect a similar battery life too.

Price

The price of the OPPO Find X5 Pro for the European market is €1300/$1439, while the OnePlus 10 Pro starts from €899/$995 for the base configuration with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The Find X5 Pro naturally wins the comparison, but if you do not mind having a less impressive design and build quality, as well as an inferior camera, the OP10 Pro may be enough for you.

OnePlus 10 Pro vs OPPO Find X5 Pro: PRO and CONS

OnePlus 10 Pro

Nothing has “(1) more thing” to reveal on April 1

Nothing finally has something to launch tomorrow. The brand has cryptically revealed on Twitter that it will announce “(1) more thing”, but what’s it? let’s take a look.

Nothing has been somewhat a synonym of the word loquacious. The brand has been teasing quite a few things but there’s nothing actually in the picture, as of yet. This time around, the company took to Twitter tweeting “announcement tomorrow”, and there’s also an image attached to the tweet.

Nothing

The image shared showcases a smartphone’s curved sides. It has a speaker grille, USB Type-C port, microphone, and what appears to be antenna bands. There’s no headphone jack on the phone. The image has “(1) more thing” written on it, which we aren’t sure whether it is the name of the device or some left-over announcement that the company wants to reveal tomorrow.

Everything seems cryptic and takes us again on the hype train that the brand pulled off ever since its inception. However, not to forget tomorrow’s date, that’s April 1st. It could just be some random April fools joke or could actually be an announcement, who knows.

Nothing fetaured

Nothing is aimed towards offering a similar experience as Apple. With the tweet, the company appears to be mimicking Apple by tweeting with the “(1) more thing” phrase. For those unaware, “one more thing” was Steve Jobs’ popular phrase from Apple events.

Nothing, a few days back, officially confirmed its future plans. There’s a Nothing smartphone in sleeves called the Nothing Phone (1) — scheduled to debut this summer. The brand is also keen on bringing its own UI called the Nothing OS offering less bloatware. It also has plans for offering an ecosystem similar to Apple and has also confirmed having its own community.

Google Pixel 6a retail box leaks, might launch soon

So far, various reports have suggested that Google is preparing to soon debut the budget version of the Pixel 6 series smartphones, dubbed the Google Pixel 6a. Last week, news emerged that the Pixel 6a could be announced at the Google I/O event in May and will later launch around 28th July.

image via Techxina

Now, Techxine has shared a new picture that features the Pixel 6a’s retail box indicating that the launch might indeed happen sooner rather than later. The box features an image of the Pixel 6a which features a similar design to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The phone’s camera visor appears to be made out of glass but it could also be glossy plastic. Previous rumors also suggest that the device will be made completely out of plastic.

Coming to the camera visor of the device, looking closely, we can see a faint pill-shaped outline around the two cameras in the visor, which is in line with the previous renders of the device. The large LED flash on the right is also the same as featured in the renders and the device appears to indeed omit the microphone hole and the laser autofocus.

Google Pixel 6a
Google Pixel 6a

Coming to the specifications, previous leaks have indicated that the smartphone will feature a 6.2-inch OLED display and will feature an under-display fingerprint sensor. Similar to the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, this one too will be powered by the Google Tensor chipset and have 128GB of internal storage.

In the camera department, there will be a 12.2-megapixel Sony IMX363 primary sensor and a 12-megapixel Sony IMX355 ultra-wide angle lens. The front-facing camera on the device will be housed inside a punch-hole cutout.

Motorola Moto G52 renders and specifications leaked ahead of launch

Earlier this month, the Motorola Moto G52 was spotted on certification websites confirming its existence. However, there was no news about the phone thereafter. Now, Evan Blass(via 91Mobiles) has shared some official renders and specs of the smartphone taking us closer to its release.

The Motorola Moto G52 will take on the Motorola Moto G51. The smartphone will carry forward the triple camera and punch-hole design from the G51. The phone is codenamed ‘Rhode’ and has a large punch-hole panel. It is a 6.55-inch pOLED display with FHD+ resolution. It will have a 90Hz refresh rate, which is a downgrade from the 120Hz refresh rate of its predecessor. But, a pOLED panel from an LCD screen is still an upgrade anyway.

Motorola Moto G52

Moving to the back, it has a vertical camera placement with a 50MP main lens, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. The device has a 16MP front-facing camera for selfies. On the back, it has the Motorola logo and written text. It has a SIM tray on the left spine and a volume rocker, a power button on the right side.

It is said to have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 SoC paired with 4GB, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB, 256GB of storage. For those unaware, this chipset doesn’t support 5G, meaning it will be a 4G-only handset. This is an unusual move as the predecessor Moto G51 has 5G support with its Snapdragon 480+ SoC.

Motorola Moto G52

The device will pack a 5,000mAh battery and have an IP52 rating. There’s no detail about its charging speed. It will boot on Android 12 OS out of the box and come in Black, White, and Blue colors. As of now, Motorola hasn’t revealed the launch date of this phone, nor do we get any date from the tipster. But the phone is said to debut internationally soon.

Xiaomi 12 Pro launch timeline revealed for the Indian market

Earlier this month, the Xiaomi 12 series forayed to the global market by a release in Europe. The Indian market was also tipped to get the series soon but the launch timeline wasn’t revealed. Now, the tipster Ishan Agarwal has revealed that the Xiaomi 12 Pro will be launching soon in India.

The tipster said that the Xiaomi 12 Pro will arrive in April in the Indian market. He only mentioned the Pro model, so we aren’t sure if the other models will accompany it at the launch. Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G, A71 5G, S20 FE 4G receive One UI 4.1 update

Now, Samsung has begun rolling out the Android One UI 4.1 update to these devices which will hopefully fix the issues. Along with the A52s, the South Korean giant has also released the One UI 4.1 update for the Galaxy A71 5G and the Galaxy S20 FE 4G. The Galaxy A71 5G has completely skipped the One UI 4.0 update and is directly jumping to One UI 4.1.

The latest update brings plenty of improvements along with the standard bug fixes and the March 2022 security patches to these devices. Some highlight features coming with this update are the Smart Calander and the improved RAM Plus. The Smart Calander reads dates from all messaging apps and allows for easier input in the actual Calendar app. The RAM Plus on the other hand enables virtual memory capability on these devices and now offers a choice of four options between 2GB and 8GB.

The update is said to be live in Europe and South Korea at the moment and will see a wider rollout soon. If you have not received the update yet, you can manually check for the One UI 4.1 update on their Samsung Galaxy handsets by heading to Settings > Software update. Users also have the option to grab the new release directly from Samsung’s Firmware Update Server (FUS) and flash it manually on their Galaxy device.
