OPPO A95 4G launched in Malaysia packing a Snapdragon 662 SoC, 33W Fast charging

Exactly a week ago, the OPPO A95 was teased by Chinese company OPPO in the Philippines. The device has now been officially unveiled in Malaysia. The new A95 is a 4G phone and that is where it differs from the A95 5G that was launched earlier.

The A95 4G has the same design as the 5G version but the features differ. The device packs a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with full HD+ resolution and support for a 60Hz refresh rate. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 662 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM while there is 128GB of storage onboard.

The device crams an under-display fingerprint scanner which is pretty impressive. There is also a 16-megapixel selfie camera located on the punch-hole cutout on top of the display. At the rear aspect, there is a triple camera setup consisting of a 48-megapixel main shooter paired with a 2-megapixel macro lens and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

The OPPO A95 runs on Android 11-based ColorOS 11.1 and crams a 5,000mAh battery under the hood which will ensure a longer usage time. Even if you run out of battery, the device features support for 33W fast charging.

The A95 4G is presently available on OPPO’s official website and via retail partners in Malaysia for MYR 1,099 ($264). The device is available in Glowing Starry Black and Glowing Rainbow Silver.

The Balmuda Phone is a compact $900 premium smartphone out of Japan

In recent times, we have seen companies expanding their operations to previously uncharted territory, like Apple supposedly going into electric vehicles and drone manufacture. Japanese home appliances company Balmuda has unveiled its debut smartphone the Balmuda Phone in Japan. In an event held in the Japanese capital Tokyo, Balmuda Technologies, which is a new arm of the parent company, announced its entry to the smartphone market with a premium and high-end smartphone, the Balmuda Phone.

Balmuda had carved a niche for itself in the Japanese market, with its signature Balmuda Toaster rising to become a very successful product among the Japanese. To weather the inherent difficulties of introducing a new product into a highly saturated market, the company is coming with some concepts that could stand the Balmuda Phone out. It is a smartphone designed with compactness as a key driving force. Its 4.9-inch display offers the crispiest of resolution that is at par with the 4.7-inch iPhone SE. The phone is 13.7mm thick as well as has a short length. It also has a unique look and feels with its curved back and nice-looking bezels.

The Balmuda Phone is priced at $900 and is coming as a mid-ranger to the Japanese market. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

The compact phone has a single 48MP primary camera at the rear as well as a fingerprint scanner, while the front-facing camera is 8MP, housed inside a punch-hole cutout at the front. The device will run on a 3,500mAh battery which should sustain the device due to its low power consumption. There is also wireless charging support for the new smartphone.

The phone will run on Android 11 out of the box.

Razer to open China’s first official Experience Store in Shanghai on November 20

Razer, the company known for making gaming products, has officially announced that the brand’s first experience store in China will be opened in Shanghai on 20th November. The official Shanghai Razer Experience Store is located at L6-06, Shanghai Raffles Square.

The experience store has several different zones, including a battle experience area, a professional player experience area, a mobile game experience area, a console experience area, and a claw machine experience area.

The company will be showcasing all of its products available in the market and the experience center is also designed with the company’s icon Neon Green color highlights.

In the first half of this year, the company registered a record-high revenue of $752 million, representing a 68 percent year-on-year growth, thanks to robust demand for the company’s hardware and ongoing growth in the services segment.

Razer also announced that its Gross Profit Margin improved 27.1 percent as compared to the 22 percent for the same period in 2020. The company reported a net profit of $31.3 million compared to a net loss of $17.7 million for the same period in the previous year.

For those who are unaware, Razer was founded in San Diego, California as a subsidiary of Karna LLC in 1998 and started making gaming peripherals. The firm stopped operations in 2000 due to financial problems. Later, in 2005, Razer was founded by Min-Liang Tan and Robert Krakoff, after they procured the rights to the Razer brand.

Earlier this year, in February, Razer CEO Tan Min-Liang announced the plan of moving the company’s Singapore headquarters to a larger building as it plans to hire for 1,000 new positions. The new headquarters officially opened on 26th October 2021, which was officiated by the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore Heng Swee Keat.

At the end of October, Sony held a product launch conference launching the Chinese version of the Xperia Pro-I, the latest flagship smartphone offering from Sony.

The phone will finally be up for pre-order for Chinese customers starting November 22, and will go on sale at 8 PM December 6th for 10,999 yuan ($1720). Furthermore, the phone’s vlog monitor accessory is expected to cost around 1000 yuan (150 dollars).

Sony Xperia PRO-I

It sports a 6.5-inch 4K HDR (3,840×1,644 pixels) OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, a 21:9 aspect ratio, and 100 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut. Its display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, while the back gets Gorilla Glass 6 protection. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC paired with 12GB of RAM and 512 GB storage. There’s also a microSD card slot, allowing you to further expand the storage capacity up to 1TB on the device. The phone hosts a 4,500mAh battery with 30W fast charging support, giving 50 percent battery life in 30 minutes. Sony Xperia Pro-I gets IPX5 and IPX8 ratings for water resistance and IP6X rating for dust resistance. The phone measures 166x72x8.9mm and weighs 211 grams. The Sony smartphone also features Dolby Atmos for the built-in speakers.

In the design department, the Sony Xperia Pro-I is designed with a focus on function over form featuring frosted glass matte-black finish and rigid rails going all along the side, making the phone easier to grip. It has a dedicated shutter button on the right spine that you can press to access the camera, then half-press to focus and full press to snap a picture. Sony has also introduced a Vlog Monitor that acts as an accessory and enables you to vlog using the phone’s rear camera with greater ease.

Sony Xperia PRO-I Camera

It wouldn’t be a lie if someone described this device as a phone attached to a camera, as the phone is clearly built for photography and content creation enthusiasts.

The Xperia Pro-I features a triple rear camera setup. It gets a 12-megapixel 1-inch type Exmor RS sensor with a variable aperture ranging from f/2.0 to f/4.0 as its primary camera. It also features a 12-megapixel 1/2.9-inch Exmor RS sensor with an f/2.4 aperture lens, and another 12-megapixel 1/2.5-inch Exmor RS sensor with an f/2.2 aperture lens. The rear cameras also get optical image stabilization (OIS).

For selfies and video calls, the Sony Xperia Pro-I sports an 8-megapixel 1/4-inch sensor with an f/2.0 aperture lens. The smartphone gets a dedicated shutter button and a shortcut key that can be customized as per the user’s preference.

The new Sony Xperia flagship smartphone records videos in 21:9 video format at 4K resolution and 120 frames per second. It comes with a Cinematography Pro mode that lets users adjust various settings. Sony’s Vlog Monitor acts as a secondary display that attaches at the back of the Xperia Pro-I.

Other features

Connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, dual-band Wi-Fi with 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, Bluetooth v5.2, USB Type-C, NFC, and a 3.5mm headphone jack that can act as a microphone input. Onboard sensors include A-GPS, A-GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo, QZSS, and a fingerprint.

Carl Pei’s start-up Nothing is gearing up to release several products after the successful launch of its first product – the Ear (1) earbuds. The brand recently disclosed that it is working towards the release of five new products. Also, there are rumors of the brand releasing a smartphone and power bank soon. A new tip has now emerged that the brand is planning to release the Ear 1 in a new color hue.

91mobiles quotes noted tipster Ishan Agarwal to have disclosed that Nothing is planning to release the Nothing Ear 1 black variant will soon be released. The tipster did not reveal further details as to when the new color option will be released.

Nothing first unveiled the Ear 1 for the global market back in July and it was available only in a white transparent version. The transparent design is one of the stand-out features of the earbud so, we expect the company to retain the transparent design on the bac variant. With loads of functionality available in the Nothing ear (1) including active noise cancellation, its price of $99 is highly competitive for a start. Much of the established products with similar features are priced higher than the price of the ear (1).

Some of the impressive features onboard include IPX4 water and sweat-resistant rating, in-ear detection that detects if the earbuds are removed from the ear. There is also Bluetooth 5.2 support as well as ANC, among others.

POCO F1 now joins list of devices not eligible for MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition update

The POCO F1 has been no less than a legend for the POCO sub-brand, single-handedly propelling it into success by selling in millions. But even legends like it eventually hit the end of the road with software updates, and it appears that the device will remain stuck on MIUI 12 based on Android 10.

To recall, the POCO F1, also known by the name of Pocophone F1 in some regions, was launched over three years ago in the August of 2018. It first booted into MIUI 9 based on Android Oreo 8.1 and has since gone through several MIUI and Android upgrades. Xiaomi/POCO typically grants two Android and up to four MIUI upgrades, both of which have been met by POCO F1, so the EOL doesn’t come as a surprise.

There had been much speculation earlier about the device with regards to MIUI 12.5, but the device is yet to get even a beta build of the same so it’s best to just forget about it. As for MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition, most had already accepted that the POCO F1 will not be getting it. But new info from Xiaomi Global Community has now confirmed that that indeed is the case, effectively putting all rumors to rest.

The lack of MIUI 12.5 Enhanced for the POCO F1 isn’t the end of the world though. Sure, it does bring along plenty of bug fixes, but it barely offers much over MIUI 12 that the device is currently running. You’d be better off flashing a custom ROM which will help give a new lease of life to your F1.

Last week, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ was spotted on the database of the benchmarking site, Geekbench, confirming the reports of Samsung working on the next generation of the Galaxy Tab lineup expected to launch early next year.

Earlier today, another such benchmark was spotted on the Geekbench database, namely SM-X906N, predicted to be the Korean variant of the Samsung Tab S8 Ultra(via). The Tab S8 Ultra will be the most premium offering in the upcoming lineup of Samsung tablets. Let’s take a look at the features of this upcoming tablet revealed by Geekbench.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra has the model number SM-X906N. The Geekbench database reveals that the device is powered by the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 SoC, giving some legitimacy to an earlier leak by the tipster Ice Universe that stated all upcoming Tab S8 series will feature the Snapdragon 898 and not the Exynos 2200 chips. The onboard graphics processing unit will be the Adreno 730, and the device is seen to have 8GB RAM, which is expected to vary in the different RAM and storage configurations of the device.

The tablet scored 1215 in Geekbench’s single-core test, which is slightly higher than 1211 that the Tab S8+ managed. On the other hand, the multi-core test showed the tablet scoring 3159, which is a tad lesser than the 3193 score of the Tab S8+. These scores reveal that there might be no difference between the two devices when it comes to computing power. This listing also revealed the software aspect of the Tab S8 Ultra, which appears to come with an android 12 out of the box, expected to be the OneUI 4.0 custom skin.

The leaked renders have previously revealed that the tablet will likely be equipped with a 14.6-inch display with slim bezels and a notch camera in the front. The device is expected to sport an OLED display with a resolution of 2960 x 1848 pixels, 240 PPI, 120Hz refresh rate, and BRS (Border Reduction Structure). Other features might include an 11,500mAh battery, a pill-shaped rear camera module housing two sensors and an LED flash, a quad-speaker setup, and a magnetic strip below the camera module for the S Pen.

The early renders have also revealed the presence of a USB-C port, but with the 3.5mm jack missing.

Xiaomi isn’t exactly known for its software support even when it comes to flagship phones but the company’s latest blunder takes stuff to new heights. The Redmi Note 8 first got a taste of Android 11 back in early 2021 when it rolled out in China. However, it’s been around 9 months since then and it’s only now that the Redmi Note 8 is finally set to get Android 11 in India.

To recall, Android version upgrades do not really offer much in terms of new features on Xiaomi devices. New goodies make their way through MIUI updates instead. Due to this, the Android 11 update for the Redmi Note 8 will likely not add much over the previous Android 10 build.

The update carries version number 12.0.1.0.RCOINXM and Xiaomiui reports that it is only ‘ready’ as of yet. This probably means that it hasn’t yet begun to roll out but will be so in the coming days. The update will only bring along a new security patch, although the month hasn’t been specified.

And as already mentioned, the update is only an Android version upgrade and it will still be based on MIUI 12 – a major bummer considering MIUI 12 + Android 11 is known to be a notorious duo plagued with bugs. The Redmi Note 8 was and always will be eligible for MIUI 12.5 but there’s still no news of when the update will be rolling out in India. Most of the other eligible devices have already been treated to the same and the reason behind the hold-up is unclear.

In early October, OnePlus released Android 12-based OxygenOS 12 Open Beta 1 for the OnePlus 9 series. A little over a month later, the devices now get access to Open Beta 2. The latest update brings fixes for issues faced by users in the initial build.

According to the official announcement post on OnePlus Community, OxygenOS 12 Open Beta 2 update for OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro is being rolled out via OTA for units that are already on Open Beta 1. If a user on the stable channel wishes to try the new build, they will need to install the first build and then update to the fresh release.

As per the official changelog, the latest pubic beta brings optimizations for status bar fluency, battery life, and charging speed. Most importantly, it brings fixes for status bar not displaying apps, auto-brightness failing, desktop widgets displaying abnormally, cloud service not opening in Notes, and status bar not displaying battery of Bluetooth earphones.

The new release also bumps up the security patch level to November 2021 and improves system stability as well as camera app stability.

Since it is beta software, it also has a number of known and unknown issues. Hence, install it only if you are used to such conditions.

Apple supplier Foxconn believes chip shortage may stretch into H2 2022

Foxconn, a major supplier of iPhones for Apple, has recently shared its views on the ongoing chip shortage. The company believes that the semiconductor shortages might be stretched well into the second half of next year.

According to a WallStreetJournal report (Via MacRumors), the Cupertino based giant has been facing the impacts of the chip shortage for several quarters now. But in the latest quarter, the supply constraints on components have started affecting the brand’s business. For those unaware, the world is currently facing an going semiconductor shortage that has impacted various industries, including the likes of automobiles, home appliances, smartphones, and many more.

This, in turn, has even lead to lead times (time between an order being placed and actual delivery) rising for all of Apple’s products. This includes iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and even Macs. According to the company, the shortages have cost it 6 billion US Dollars, which would escalate even further with the arriving holiday season. While Foxconn’s production for iPhone have recently been improving, the delivery times are still much higher than normal.

With the holiday season being just around the corner, the iPhone maker is encouraging prospective buyers to ensure they receive it in time for the holidays. The issue with supply has even caused the company to provide “order by” dates for some of its most popular products as well.

Vivo X80 series to launch in India in two variants around early 2022: Report

Back in September, the Vivo X70 series had made its way to India. Now, the company is reportedly gearing up to the launch the successor, X80 series, in the region early next year.

According to a 91Mobiles report, sources close to the matter have revealed that the Chinese smartphone brand is planning an early 2022 launch for the X80 series in India. The new smartphone lineup is expected to launch sometime in late January or early February 2022. Additionally, the sources also claimed that the X80 will be available in two variants. Since the X70 series launched in an X70 Pro and X70 Pro+ variant, we can also expect an X80 Pro and X80 Pro+ versions as well.

Unfortunately, the sources did not reveal any finer details regarding these two smartphones. Although, a recent report had shared some key details about the base model of the X80. The entry model will feature a 120Hz FHD+ display with a MediaTek Dimensity 2000 chipset, which is based on a 4nm process. This version will also ship with Android 11 OS and feature a 50 megapixel primary camera with 5 axis stabilization, alongside a 12MP telephoto lens with 2x zoom.

The HUAWEI P50 series was announced at the end of July. The lineup consists of two models, namely HUAWEI P50 and HUAWEI P50 Pro. The latter model is powered by two different chipsets – Kirin 9000 and Snapdragon 888, while the former only comes with the Qualcomm chip. The Pro model with the Snapdragon chip is now finally tipped to go on sale soon.

At the launch conference, Huawei revealed that the Snapdragon 888 version of the HUAWEI P50 Pro will be available in December. Now, ahead of the said month, a reliable Huawei-focused tipster has shed availability details on this variant of the handset.

According to the leaker, the HUAWEI P50 Pro with Snapdragon 888 will go on sale in late December. Additionally, he says that there will not be a 5G version of both HUAWEI P50 and HUAWEI P50 Pro. Also, Huawei will not be releasing HUAWEI P50 Pro+.

For those unaware, the P50 series is limited to 4G connectivity due to the sanctions by the US government. Although there are rumors of the HUAWEI Mate50 series with 5G connectivity in 2022, its release is uncertain at the moment.

Hence, if you are interested in a new Huawei flagship smartphone, then the 4G-only HUAWEI P50 Pro with Snapdragon 888 chipset, which is expected to hit the shelves next month, is the only viable option.

The Qualcomm variant of the P50 Pro is expected to retail at the following price tags if Huawei does not make any changes before the sale.

Smartphone with 150W charging now coming soon, as if 120W wasn’t fast enough

Chinese phones manufacturers have been at the forefront of fast charging tech, first normalizing the 33W standard and now slowly making 67W fast charging available to the masses. Some flagship-level phones have even breached the 120W mark. But as it stands, companies are not done yet pushing the boundaries of how quickly a battery can be filled up.

Tipster Digital Station on Weibo has hinted that a 150W charging solution is on the way, adding in the comments that a mass-produced device will be “coming soon.”

Obviously, 120W is blazing fast already and is capable of filling up a ~4500mAh device from 0 to 100 in under 20 minutes. But companies and people both are obsessed with numbers, hence the push for even higher wattage. 150W should shave off several more minutes off the total charging time, although there is more to charging speeds than wattage.

No one doubts companies’ ability to reach 150W. After all, Xiaomi has already been working on 200W charging tech. The only concern here is battery degradation. OPPO and Xiaomi recently stated that their 120W/125W charging solutions results in 20% degradation over a period of 2 years or 800 charge cycles. This isn’t too impressive, but who cares if it results in phones charging to 100% within the time it takes for one to take a shower? Moreover, 20% degradation isn’t the end of the world especially considering that most people use their phones for only 2-3 years.

Further, the technology is new and is bound to improve over time. This obviously doesn’t mean that companies are releasing fast charging tech without sufficient testing. But it does mean that worrying about the amount of battery one got on their phone may soon turn into a thing of the past.

With the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series, Apple had offered the MagSafe charging solution. While this feature is useful, most normal cases for these devices block the magnet inside the iPhones. But now, here’s an affordable accessory that turns even regular phone cases into MagSafe compatible ones.

The accessory in question is made by Anker and is basically a magnetic ring that can be attached to the back of the case. This make the MagSafe functional again on a regular phone case. This gadget is called the Anker 310 Magnetic Ring and is currently available for purchase via Amazon for a price of just 8 US Dollars. It arrives with an adhesive on one side, which you can stick to the back of the case. Although, you’ll have to use the the included alignment tool to position it properly.

After doing this, users can simply charge their iPhones with a MagSafe accessory from the case itself. Notably, Anker claims that this stick is also reusable so you can even switch out cases for another since the accessory can be removed and reattached. However, keep in mind that there is a limitation. iPhones with a thick case or one with a textured back would not be able to use MagSafe regardless of the new Anker accessory.

As per the official notes, “Phone cases that have an uneven surface or exceed 2mm in thickness, such as Otterbox defender cases, are not recommended for use.” Apart from that, an iPhone 12 and 13 series model is the basic requirements since earlier iPhone iterations do not offer in built MagSafe solution support.

Samsung Galaxy A33 5G live image leak reveals full design ahead of early 2022 launch

A new leak has just revealed live images of the Samsung Galaxy A33 5G. The new live images reveal the smartphone’s frame, mould, and rear case, which reveals design that is in line with renders that we had previously reported on.

The leaked images were shared by 91Mobiles who stated that the live shots are for the SM-A336, which is the model number for the upcoming Galaxy A33 5G. 91Mobile’s sources also shared some live images that reveal the design of the smartphone. Looking at these images, the device also appears to have a rectangular camera bump on the rear. The renders that we had reported on earlier showcased the camera module with quad image sensors and an LED flash.

The live images also reveal cutouts for the bottom speakers, microphone, USB Type C port, volume rockers, and even the power button. Its SIM card slot will be housed on the top of the handset. While finer details are still unknown, the Galaxy A33 5G is expected to feature a 6.4 inch Infinity U display, with a waterdrop notch. The panel is likely an AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution. The leaked images also revealed that the device won’t feature a 3.5mm headphone jack. Reportedly, the handset will launch sometime in early 2022, presumably January. HYPER launches HyperDrive Triple 4K Display Dock for MacBook Pro 2016-21

HYPER today announced the launch of its HyperDrive 4K Multi-Display Dock that’s designed for 13, 14, 15, and 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro models. It supports up to three 4K displays on larger Macs.

The material used is aluminum and the dock can be fitted underneath a MacBook Pro (via MacRumors). Using it will provide additional benefits as HYPER says it offers ergonomic benefits and aids the laptop in heat dissipation.

As for ports, the dock comes with three HDMI ones and three DisplayPorts, all of which support 4K displays with a refresh rate of up to 60Hz. With it, you get a Gigabit Ethernet port and a 100W USB-C PD port for charging purposes. There are also two USB-C ports with support for 10Gbps data transfer, a USB-A port also with 10Gbps transfer speeds, a couple of extra 5Gbps USB-A ports, and an SD card slot with support for 104MBps transfer speeds.

HYPER claims that the dock isn’t like anything on the market right now as it lets users create a triple 4K display setup using any combination of ports. The HyperDrive Dock connects to the MacBook with three USB-C cable.

One cable links 11 ports, including an HDMI/DisplayPort port, while another one to two cables connect one to two additional HDMI/DisplayPort ports. All three wires must be connected for all 15 ports to be operational.

HYPER is using a two-part modular approach for the HyperDrive. The 13 and 14-inch MacBook Pros get the main part of the dock that comes with 13 ports, including two HDMI and DisplayPort ports. The 15 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models on the other hand get a magnetic extension that adds an additional DisplayPort and HDMI port to enable triple display support.

The HyperDrive 4K Multi-Display Dock works with any USB Type-C MacBook Pro from 2016 to 2021 and even supports Windows PCs, Chromebooks, and more.

It is presently available on Indiegogo with a price starting at $124 for the 13 and 14-inch versions. The full dock is priced starting at $149. HYPER says that the docks will begin shipping in December 2021. At launch, the 13/14-inch version will retail for $249.99 while the full version will retail for $299.99.
