Redmi devices tipped to use customized version of MIUI

Xiaomi group smartphones have been running MIUI since the beginning. No matter the brand, whether it’s Xiaomi (formerly Mi), Redmi, or POCO, all handsets from them run the same software. However, POCO phones come with a different theme and the brand calls it MIUI for POCO. According to a reliable leaker, Redmi devices will also ship with a customized version of MIUI.

Redmi K40 Gaming Edition
Redmi K40 Gaming Edition

Digital Chat Station says that Redmi smartphones will soon use a tweaked version of MIUI. This will help the brand to establish its own identity. However, he did not reveal when we will get to see the first iteration of MIUI designed for Redmi handsets.

We don’t think the MIUI for Redmi will differ in terms of features and functionality. It will most likely only have a new look just like how MIUI on POCO devices seems slightly different than on Redmi and Xiaomi-branded (Mi) handsets.

The implementation will be probably similar to what Huawei, OPPO, and vivo have been doing for years. HONOR devices run a tweaked version of EMUI called Magic UI, while realme UI is based on ColorOS. Similarly, OriginOS and Funtouch OS for iQOO smartphones are a bit different from the same software found on vivo phones.

What are your thoughts on Xiaomi diversifying MIUI based on brands? Do let us know in the comment section below.

Xiaomi recently launched its new Civi series smartphones with a brand-new design which the company touts as the most beautiful smartphone in the brand’s history. Rumors indicate that the upcoming flagship smartphone from the company — Xiaomi Mi 12 series could feature the same design scheme.

Now, a new report has surfaced online which reveals more details about the upcoming Xiaomi flagship smartphone. It is being said that the Mi 12 smartphone will be lighter and thinner with several improvements in terms of looks compared to the Mi 11 series.

Xiaomi Smartphone Feature Image

It is also claimed that the Xiaomi Mi 12 will use dual-core materials and design schemes that can increase the energy density to a certain extent, and is said to pack a 5,000mAh battery. This means that the smartphone will have a thinner body despite packing a larger capacity battery.

The device will have a ceramic back panel, which isn’t the first time Xiaomi will be using it for its flagship smartphone. The Mi MIX 4 flagship smartphone from the company already comes with a ceramic body.

Recently, Digital Chat Station had revealed that the Mi 12 will have thinner bezels and chin, making for a better viewing experience. Internally, the upcoming flagship smartphone is said to come powered by the unannounced Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 chipset. If we are to go by the past record, then it could be the first smartphone in the world to come powered by the Snapdragon 898 SoC.

It is also being claimed that the new camera setup on the Mi 12 series will sport a 50-megapixel primary sensor over the previously reported 200-megapixel sensor. As for now, there’s no way of confirming this but we will get to know more about this upcoming smartphone as the launch date nears.

Samsung announces Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 event on October 20

Samsung has sent out invites for its upcoming launch event which the company is calling “Galaxy Unpacked Part 2.” The event will be held online on 20th October at 7:00 AM PT or 10:00 AM ET but the South Korean giant has not revealed what is getting launched.

Interestingly, the event from Samsung is scheduled just a couple of days after the Apple event on 18th October for the new M1X-powered Macs and a day after the Google Pixel 6 series launch event on 19th October.

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 Event

A post by Samsung announcing this new Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 event hints at some kind of personalization for Galaxy devices. The post reads: “Our users are multifaceted and live life in so many colorful, interesting, and unique ways. As such, the technology they use every day should reflect their individuality. Join Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 on October 20 to see how Samsung is opening up new experiences for self-expression through technology.”

While not much is known about the event at this time, it seems that Samsung is hinting at new color options for the Galaxy phones or full customization for the recently launched foldable smartphones from the brand.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE smartphone has been making rounds for several months now and the phone’s launch has been delayed a few times now. However, the device is unlikely to get launched at the 20th October event because of the chip shortage. There are reports that the phone could go official in January 2022, pushing the launch of the flagship Galaxy S22 series phones to somewhere in February.

There’s a possibility that the company plans to announce software-related features at the upcoming event and could reveal details about the Android 12 rollout, given that the South Korean firm has already rolled out two public beta versions.

To know for sure what exactly the company announces at the 20th October Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 event, we’ll have to wait for the event to take place.

Apart from the chipsets powering the phones, nothing much is known about the devices. But we expect the top-end variant to come packed with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB or 512GB of internal storage.

Recently, it was revealed that the OPPO Reno7 series will use large-sized camera sensors. and the report further says that the standard Reno7 will have a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 primary sensor, which measures 1/1.56” in size.

Prior to that, it was revealed that the upcoming Reno-series flagship smartphones from OPPO will come with a metal frame and a punch-hole at the top left corner, similar to the design of its predecessor.

The OPPO Reno7 with model number PFDM00 has recently been approved by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (CMIIT). This indicates that the phone’s launch isn’t far away. If that’s the case, then we expect the Chinese brand to announce a launch event in the coming days.

Apple reportedly cuts iPhone 13 production due to chip shortage

Its been a few weeks since Apple started selling the newly launched iPhone 13 series models in the markets across the world. The company has been facing issues with the production of its products due to chip shortage and it seems that the trouble for the company has now increased.

According to the latest report, Apple is cutting down the production of its iPhone 13 models by as many as 10 million units because of the chip shortages.

The technology giant was expected to produce about 90 million units of its newly launched smartphones in the fourth quarter of this year but it appears that the manufacturing partners of Apple have informed the company that the total will be lower because of shortage of components from Broadcom and Texas Instruments.

The development comes at a time when the supply for the Apple iPhone 13 series smartphones is also constrained. While delivery times for some of the models were already pushed, the situation could worsen with the holiday period about to begin soon.

The Apple iPhone 13 models use Broadcom AFEM-8215 front-end module and a Broadcom BCM59365 wireless power receiver, along with display power management IC, array driver, flash LED driver and dual repeater from Texas Instruments.

It also remains to be seen how the chip shortage will impact the upcoming MacBook Pro models powered by the Apple M1X chipset, set to be officially launched next week. Recently, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had said that Apple would cut its MacBook shipments in half due to component shortages. This is believed to be related to the lack of power management integrated circuits.
