Apple iPhone 12 receives a big CNY 2,000(~$310) Price Cut in China

It is an ongoing trend to lower the price of a smartphone just before the arrival of its successor. This is done to clear the stocks of the existing products in order to bring new devices to the market. Similarly, Apple every year slashes the prices of its current-gen iPhones days before the arrival of its next iteration. This year, Apple has lowered the price of its iPhone 12 in greet of its successor Apple iPhone 13.

Reportedly, Apple has slashed the price of its iPhone 12 in China. Earlier, the Apple iPhone 12 128GB variant was retailing for CNY 6,799(~$1,054) in the region. Now, the phone has received a huge price cut of CNY 2,000(~$310), making its current retail price – CNY 4799(~$744). This is a big price cut and a great opportunity for those who were willing to purchase the iPhone 12.

Apple iPhone 12 All Colors Featured

Apart from this, the upcoming iPhone 13 is touted to come at a similar launch price as the iPhone 12. However, the phone will introduce a higher 1TB storage option rumored to be priced way over $2,000.

This year, Apple will launch four iPhone models – the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. The phones will feature a 6.1-inch display, a 5.1-inch panel, again a 6.1-inch display, and lastly a 6.7-inch screen respectively. The series is expected to come powered by Apple’s A15 chipset and will have 4GB RAM in the vanilla and Mini models and 6GB RAM in the Pro models.

Apple is yet to reveal the exact launch date of the iPhone 13 series but rumors have it that the phones may launch on September 14 globally and will go on pre-orders from September 17.

Realme 8i

The Realme 8s will be a 5G handset powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 810 SoC. The Realme 8i, on the other hand, will be a 4G phone with Helio G96 SoC. The duo will have a triple rear camera system, however, only the Realme 8i’s camera numbers are known. The Realme 8i will equip a 50MP main, a 2MP macro, and a 2MP depth sensor. The phones will run on Android 11 out of the box with Realme’s custom skin on top of it.

6. JioPhone Next

Indian Telecom operator, Jio is scheduled to launch the JioPhone Next smartphone on September 10 in India. The device was rumored recently and it also appeared in a few leaks.

The JioPhone Next will be an entry-level 4G phone with a compact 5.5-inch HD display. It won’t flaunt a thin-bezel design, rather pictures reveal thick bezels on both the top and bottom. It is expected to come with a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP selfie camera.

Under the hood, it will be powered by the Snapdragon 215 SoC paired with 2GB or 3GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage. The device is expected to have a 66W fast charging support and a 4,500mAh battery. The Nova 9 Pro is expected to feature a crazy fast 100W fast charging support on the 4,000mAh battery cell.

The smartphone series will comprise the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The Pro will have a 6.7-inch QHD+ display with a high 120Hz refresh rate, whereas, the vanilla model will sport a 6.4-inch FHD+ display panel with a 90Hz refresh rate.

Google Pixel 6 series featured

The vanilla is expected to sport a dual camera system and the Pro is rumored to have a triple rear camera setup. According to rumors, the phones will be powered by an unreleased Exynos 5123 SoC instead of a Snapdragon SoC.

9. Realme Narzo 50 series

Realme is expected to refresh the Narzo lineup of smartphones with the Realme Narzo 50 phones like the Narzo 50, Narzo 50A, and Narzo 50i. As per a recent leak, the phones will launch soon in India. Additionally, Realme unveiled the predecessor Narzo 20 series last year in September, which makes us believe that the Narzo 50 lineup will launch this month.

Realme Narzo 50A

The Realme Narzo 50A is expected to feature a large water-drop notch screen with a Full-HD+ display. The phone will feature a triple camera system and will be available in options like 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant and 4GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. Leaked renders also revealed the phone to arrive in two colors – Oxygen Blue and Oxygen Green color variants.

On the other hand, the Realme Narzo 50i is expected to be an entry-level phone with options like 2GB RAM + 64GB storage and 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. It is also expected to come in two color options like Carbon Black and Mint Green.

10. Honor X20 Max

This month, Honor is expected to launch the budget Honor X20 Max smartphone in China. It will be a successor to the Honor X10 Max and will have major upgrades over it. The smartphone will come with a mammoth 7.2-inch display and MediaTek Dimensity 1100 SoC.

Honor X20 5G

It will pack a 6,000mAh battery as compared to the 5,000mAh battery in the predecessor Honor X10 Max. The smartphone is also expected to have some sort of fast charging technology. Apart from this, the phone is also expected to bring some camera upgrades over the predecessor.

11. Nokia G50

HMD Global’s Nokia is also expected to launch the Nokia G50 smartphone in select markets. Recently, the device was teased and was also spotted on TENAA certification. That said, the smartphone will come with a large 6.82-inch display but with an HD+ resolution.

Nokia G50 5G

It will be powered by the entry-level chipset, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 SoC with a base of 2GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. The smartphone will feature a 48MP main camera at the rear and an 8MP snapper at the front. It will pack a 4,850mAh battery and may support some sort of fast charging technology.

Amazon’s own Alexa-powered TV reportedly in the works, hitting the US soon

US e-commerce giant Amazon is reportedly planning to launch a new line of its own-branded smart TV in the United States. The TVs are said to be planned for launch in early October according to a report first carried by Business Insider. AmazonBasics 43-inch Fire TV Edition 4K Featured 01

Amazon isn’t new to the TV segment per se. The brand presently sells a wide variety of self-branded products in India under the AmazonBasics label. The line includes Fire OS-powered smart TV models in different sizes. In January this year,  the brand expanded its portfolio by releasing three new models that are targeted at first-time smart TV buyers.

Business Insider quotes sources with knowledge of information described as a “closely guarded secret” to have hinted that the smart TVs will pack Alexa support. The TVs will also be available in different sizes ranging from 55- to 75-inches in size. Just like most of the Amazon-branded products, the TV will reportedly be manufactured by Chinese firm TCL but this time around, one of the models will be manufactured directly by Amazon.AmazonBasics 43-inch Fire TV Edition 4K Featured

We believe Amazon is bringing the smart TVs sold under the AmazonBasics moniker in India to the US. Although there is a basic 32-inch version with FullHD resolution in India, there are other models ranging from 43-inch, 50-inch, and 55-inch displays with 4K resolutions.

There is no word yet on the pricing of the smart TV models but the AmazonBasics TV 55-inch is on sale in India for Rs 42,999 in India (~$589). Thus, the smart TV will start at around $600 in the US.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE Quick Start Guide leaks via a US carrier, point to an imminent launch

There has been a lot of rumors and leaks surrounding the Galaxy S21 FE series. The device is also highly anticipated even though Samsung is yet to disclose when it will be launched. There are rumors that the device will go official in October. Apparently, the rumors may be true after all. The Galaxy S21 FE’s quick start guide has just leaked from a US carrier Cricket Wireless. The carrier is an AT&T-owned prepaid carrier that offers affordable phone plans that aren’t tied to annual contracts.Samsung Galaxy S21 FE Cricket Wireless

The guide shows that the phone will be offered by the carrier and that the launch is close by. It also confirms some of the vital info for users as well as live images of the affordable flagship device.

The Galaxy S21 FE is a highly-anticipated device mainly due to its ability to offer flagship features found on the Galaxy S21 series at an affordable price. The device will take over from the Galaxy S20 FE which was a hit when it was released last year.Samsung Galaxy S21 FE

This new leak comes not too long after the user manual for the S21 FE leaked online showing the device won’t have a MicroSD slot, among other things. The manual also reveals the device will also come with an IP68 waterproof rating, a high display refresh rate, and will feature an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor among others. The device will also miss out on a charging adapter inside the box.

While the Galaxy S21 FE 5G is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset, a recent GeekBench listing shows that there will be an Exynos 2100 version as well. This has left some fans disappointed considering the below-par performance the Exynos version will provide compared to the Snapdragon-n model.

There is still no word yet from the Korean tech giant regarding a launch date but we expect an announcement to be made in that regard soon.

Design

OPPO always pays a lot of attention to the realization of the designs of its phones, including the affordable ones. The OPPO A54 5G is the device with the most interesting design not only for attention to the details but even for its sleek body. It is thin and lightweight despite its big battery, and it has a high screen-to-body ratio. The Redmi Note 10T 5G has bigger dimensions and a less impressive design, but it comes with the Gorilla Glass 3 protection which makes the display panel sturdier. All these phones are built with polycarbonate and they do not include premium materials.

Display

On the paper, the OPPO A54 5G has a superior display: unlike Redmi Note 10T 5G and Realme 8 5G, it has an LTPS panel which is a more advanced kind of LCD display. But the specifications are the same for each device: a diagonal of 6.5 inches, a Full HD+ resolution, and a 90 Hz refresh rate. The phones are equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint reader for authentication and they have a single punch hole on the front.

Hardware/Software

The most advanced phone if we talk about the hardware department is the Realme 8 5G. It has the same processor as the Redmi Note 10T 5G: an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 700 built with a 7 nm production process and belonging to the mid-end segment (low-end if we only consider 5G phones). But the amount of RAM is higher: in the most expensive configuration, it comes with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.1 native storage. The Redmi Note 10T 5G goes up to 6 GB of RAM, but it features UFS 2.2 storage. The three handsets run Android 11 out of the box.

Camera

If you need the best camera phone, you should go for the OPPO A54 5G without thinking twice. It has a brighter focal aperture for the main 48 MP sensor and it adds an 8 MP ultrawide camera, unlike Redmi Note 10T 5G and Realme 8 5G. Further, it has the best front camera with a 16 MP resolution and an f/2.0 focal aperture.

Battery

These phones come with the same battery capacity: 5000 mAh. And given that the components are similar, you should not expect important differences in terms of battery life. Note that OPPO A54 5G lacks fast charging, while Redmi Note 10T 5G and Realme 8 5G support it.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10T 5G vs OPPO A54 5G vs Realme 8 5G: Price

You can actually find OPPO A54 5G and Realme 8 5G for less than €200/$240 in the global market, while in India they start from Rs. 13,990 and Rs. 15,499 online. Redmi Note 10T 5G is priced at Rs. 14,999 in India and it is still not available globally. Overall, the OPPO A54 5G is slightly more interesting (even though not for everyone): despite it lacks fast charging and it has an inferior chipset, it comes with better cameras.

Samsung is reportedly planning to bring OIS to the entire 2022 Galaxy A series lineup

South Korean tech giant Samsung is reportedly planning to start including Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) on the mid-range Galaxy A series from next year. Before now, OIS is only included in the flagship Galaxy S and Note series. However, the company had started including the feature on some of the upper models in the Galaxy A series. Samsung

Reports emanating from South Korea indicate that the company is now planning to expand the availability of OIS on its smartphones to the entire Galaxy A series models from next year. Optical image stabilization involves mounting a gyro sensor on the camera module which moves the lens in the opposite direction to counter any form of shakes or movements, thereby maintaining stability. OIS is usually applied to the main rear camera in most smartphones.

This year, the Galaxy A series models that came equipped with OIS include the Galaxy A72 packing a 64-megapixel camera, the Galaxy A52 also equipped with a 64-megapixel sensor, and the Galaxy A22 4G which packs a 48-megapixel camera. All other models in the series such as the Galaxy A32 4G/5G, Galaxy A22 5G, and Galaxy A42 utilize autofocus (AF) with lower performance than OIS.

Samsung has in recent times been losing market share to Chinese manufacturers such as Xiaomi who offer high-end smartphones at pocket-friendly prices. The move to expand the OIS usage is in a bid to strengthen the competitiveness of its mid-range segment.  Even Apple is expected to bring OIS to the budget iPhone SE 5G that is rumored to be released later this year.

The Korean company recently invested 150 billion won in Jaeyoung Solutech, a secondary parts supplier for its smartphones. The company announced a few days back that it would enter the OIS camera module market with plans to supply OIS camera modules to Samsung Electronics as early as the fourth quarter.

Motorola Edge 20 Pro’s teardown shows the internals & a difficult reparability

Motorola recently launched a slew of smartphones under the Edge series. The series is made up of the Motorola Edge 20, the Edge 20 Fusion, and the most powerful Motorola Edge 20 Pro. The flagship Motorola Edge 20 Pro has now gotten the teardown treatment, thanks to PBKreviews.Motorola Edge 20 Pro

The teardown shows the Edge 20 Pro is pretty difficult to repair with a reparability score of 4.5/10. That means it won’t b a good idea to attempt to repair the phone yourself if you haven’t got the expertise.

The teardown also gives us a good look at the internals showing a group of graphene films for heat conduction. The video also shows the sideways-mounted telephoto camera lying next to the 108MP main camera.

The Edge 20 Pro’s battery does not come with pull tabs to detach it from the phone. This makes it risky and difficult to remove the battery. Caution will need to be exercised so as not to damage other components due to the strength of the adhesive.

In the same vein, screen replacement might pose some serious challenges if the need arises. This is because the phone has to be opened entirely, starting from the back to the front. Replacing the side-mounted fingerprint sensor will also require opening the entire screen first but thankfully, you may never need to do that.

As a reminder. the Motorola Edge 20 Pro is a Snapdragon 870-powered phone sporting a 6.7-inch FHD+ 144Hz OLED display. The processor is paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The phone packs a 108MP primary rear camera, an 8MP periscope camera with 5x optical zoom and 50x superzoom, and a 16MP ultrawide angle camera that can also shoot in macro. While for selfies, there is a 32MP camera.

Microsoft Xbox may also receive Windows 11 Android app support

Microsoft is gearing up for the official launch of the Windows 11 OS. It arrives with various new features and other improvements, but perhaps most notably, it brings native support for Android apps without requiring an emulator. Now, a new report has suggested that this feature could also arrive in the company’s popular gaming consoles, the Xbox.

Microsoft windows 11

While the Android app support on Windows 11 won’t be available immediately after its first launch, it is expected to arrive soon after. However, the American tech giant did announce that it was working with Amazon (and its App Store) and Intel to bring this feature to its latest Windows version. As of right now, you can find the feature dubbed “Windows Subsystem for Android” on the Microsoft Store, although, it doesn’t do anything at the moment.

But interestingly enough, the Store listing offers us quite an unexpected device being mentioned in the system requirements category. In this list, we can see the Xbox One being mentioned as well, which hints at the possibility of this Android app support feature also making its way to the popular gaming console (Via SlashGear). However, it is unlikely that this would bring Android productivity based apps and would likely include more entertainment based software like games. This wouldn’t be too far fetches considering the control schemes of mobile games are directly inspired by the controller gamepads.

Microsoft

Keep in mind that this is still just an unconfirmed speculation so take this report with a pinch of salt. We will also have to wait and see what Microsoft has in store for us with its new Android app support feature, so stay tuned for more as we will be providing updates when additional information is available regarding this matter.

Apple to face lawsuit that alleges Siri listening to users’ private conversations

Almost every major smartphone manufacturer has its own voice assistant. With advancements in technology, companies want to put a smart device in the user’s pocket and home, raising questions about privacy.

In line with that, a lawsuit was filed against Apple alleging that the company’s voice assistant, called Siri, has improperly recorded private conversations. In a ruling related to that case, the judge ruled that the company will have to face the lawsuit, reports Reuters.

Apple Siri Featured

Apple had requested to dismiss the lawsuit, and Judge Jeffrey S. White of the federal district court in Oakland did dismiss one piece of the lawsuit that involved users’ economic harm. But he ruled that the plaintiffs, who are trying to make it a class-action lawsuit, could continue pursuing claims about violating user privacy.

The judge said the plaintiffs may pursue claims that Apple violated the federal Wiretap Act and California privacy law and committed a breach of contract. However, he dismissed an unfair competition claim. The case claims that Siri turned on unprompted and recorded conversations that it shouldn’t have and passed the data along to third parties.

One Siri user said his private discussions with his doctor about a “brand name surgical treatment” caused him to receive targeted ads for that treatment, while two others said their discussions about Air Jordan sneakers, Pit Viper sunglasses, and “Olive Garden” caused them to receive ads for those products.

Apple isn’t the only one facing a lawsuit for this, but its competitors Google and Amazon, are also facing allegations of violating user privacy by voice assistants. The companies deny that they are listening to conversations for any purpose other than the intended ones.
