According to a report by DealNTech, Samsung could soon release a new variant of the Galaxy A12 with model number SM-A127F. A support page for this handset is already live on one of the regional official websites of Samsung. This device has been also certified by Bluetooth SIG.

As per the source of the publication, the new Galaxy A12 will be powered by an Exynos 850 SoC instead of a MediaTek Helio P35 chipset, which is found inside the original model. In fact, this will be the only difference between the old and new variants.

Hence, the upcoming Galaxy A12 (SM-A127F) is expected to come with a 6.5-inch HD+ LCD screen with a dewdrop notch, 48MP (wide) + 8MP (ultra-wide) + 2MP (macro) + 2MP (depth) quad-camera setup, 8MP selfie camera, 5,000mAh battery, and 15W fast charging.

It should also feature a 3.5mm headphone jack, a MicroSD card slot, a USB Type-C port,  and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Unfortunately, it’s not known whether it will debut with Android 10-based One UI Core 2.x or the latest One UI Core 3.x (Android 11), which was made available via OTA system update for the original model recently.

Samsung is yet to officially announce the launch date of this smartphone. Since it differs only in terms of the chip, it will most likely get a silent release.

ZTE Axon 30 teaser showcases phone’s full-screen design with under-display camera

Last year, ZTE had launched the Axon 20 5G smartphone as the world’s first mobile phone to feature an under-display camera. Now, the Chinese company is gearing up to launch a successor of the same, dubbed ZTE Axon 30.

Today, ZTE officially released a teaser video for the upcoming ZTE Axon 30 smartphone, showing the phone’s front panel for the first time. Compared to its predecessor, the smartphone comes with several improvements.

The teaser video reveals that the smartphone will come with an improved screen-to-body ratio compared to its predecessor. The bezels around the screen are quite narrow and only the bottom bezel is a bit thicker. It will be offering a true full-screen experience to users.

It has already been confirmed that the phone will feature ZTE’s second-generation under-display camera technology which was demonstrated a few months ago at Mobile World Congress Shanghai. This new technology is touted to have significant upgrades and improvements over the first generation.

The company previously said that its team of engineers has gone through difficult research to effectively eliminate glare and diffraction from the material. It can effectively eliminate the adverse effects of foggy surfaces, ensure that the picture is bright and transparent, and intelligently adjust the exposure.

While nothing has been confirmed by ZTE, it is believed that the phone will come powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset but there’s a possibility that the company may opt for a different processor. It could run Android 11 with ZTE’s new MyOS interface on top.

The ZTE Axon 30 was teased back in January this year as the successor to the Axon 20 5G, however, the phone’s launch was delayed due to the global chip shortage and some other related issues. But with the new teaser shared by the company, it seems that the device is now ready to make its debut.

Google hit with $593 million fine in France over copyright issues

The antitrust regulator in France has fined the tech giant Google around $593 million and has given the company two months to come up with proposals on how to pay publishers for their content or face more punishment.

In a statement, the regulator said that Google had disregarded several injunctions related to the tech company’s negotiations with French news publishers. Isabelle de Silva, Chief of Antitrust Agency, said: “When the regulator imposes obligations for a company, it must comply scrupulously, in both the spirit and letter. In this instance, this was unfortunately not the case.”

France’s Competition Authority said that Google had breached an April 2020 ruling that ordered the company to negotiate “in good faith” licensing deals with publishers and news agencies for any reuse of copyrighted content.

The tech giant has been fined €500 million ($593 million) over its failure to comply. If the search giant does not present compensation offers to publishers within the next two months, it faces additional penalties of up to €900,000 ($1.1 million) per day.

It is the largest-ever fine imposed by France’s competition watchdog for a company’s failure to adhere to one of its rulings. It’s the latest development in an ongoing copyright battle between tech giants like Google and Facebook and news publishers.

Google said that it was “very disappointed” by Tuesday’s decision. The spokesperson for the company added: “We have acted in good faith throughout the entire process. The fine ignores our efforts to reach an agreement and the reality of how news works on our platforms. To date, Google is the only company to have announced agreements on neighboring rights. We are also about to finalize an agreement with AFP that includes a global licensing agreement, as well as the remuneration of their neighboring rights for their press publications.”

Earlier this year, in January, Google agreed to a major digital copyright deal with French publishers. As part of that deal, it would negotiate individual licenses with members of France’s press alliance for rights and access to a new service called News Showcase.

However, France’s competition agency took issue with this, saying it did not include a discussion on remuneration for current uses of content covered by “neighboring rights” for the press. It also added that Google restricted the scope of talks with the media by refusing to include the use of press images.

The European Union had overhauled its copyright laws in 2019, making platforms responsible for copyright infringements committed by their users. The new rules also require search engines and social media platforms to share revenue with publishers if their content is displayed.

Further, the handset has a curved edge-to-edge display making it very elegant, as well as a minimalistic glass back. However, Realme GT Neo Flash is all but an ugly phone. It comes with a very suggestive leather back in the original Racing Yellow color option. Further, it has a pretty compact body even though it packs a good battery.

Specs & Software

The most important thing in common between the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G and Realme GT Neo Flash is the processor. We are talking about the octa-core Dimensity 1200 which is currently the most advanced chipset by MediaTek. It is paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 native storage. When it comes to the hardware department, it is a draw because these phones have the same components. The difference is in the software: the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G runs ColorOS 11.3 which is slightly more advanced than Realme UI 3.0, in my honest opinion.

Camera

The OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G is superior if we talk about camera performance. It has a brighter focal aperture for its 64 MP main camera and it also offers an additional 2 MP depth sensor. Last but not least, it has a much better front camera with a 32 MP resolution. However, we are not talking about huge differences: the Realme GT Neo Flash still comes with a pretty nice camera department, but it is just a midrange camera phone.

Battery

OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G and Realme GT Neo have the same battery capacity: 4500 mAh. They even come with the same fast charging technology with a power of 65W. So you should not notice important differences in terms of battery life and the charging speed is exactly the same.

Price

The starting price of the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G roughly translates into €450/$530, while Realme GT Neo Flash starts from €290/$342. Unfortunately, at least for now, these handsets are only available in the Asian market. The OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G will launch in Europe too, but we do not know anything about the Realme GT Neo Flash. The OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G wins the comparison because of its better design (thinner, lighter, and with a curved screen), superior cameras (brighter focal aperture for the main camera and a better front camera), great display (awesome image quality with the HDR10+ certification). But the Realme GT Neo Flash has a higher value for money and it is more interesting for gamers due to its higher refresh rate and stereo speakers.

Huami is developing the world’s smallest MRI Scanner

Huami’s Future of Tech event wasn’t only about its new operating system and chipset alone. The company which is best known for its Amazfit brand of smartwatches also took the chance to show that it is expanding its portfolio into other areas of health tech with the unveiling of its upcoming MRI Scanner which it says will be the world’s first portable scanner.

Huami MRI Scanner

An MRI Scanner is a big diagnosis machine that takes up significant space in hospitals and usually has its own special room. They also can’t be moved around, though that may soon change as Huami says that its MRI scanner will be the world’s first portable one.

According to the manufacturer, the scanner has a height of 1.5 meters, occupies an area of less than 2m², and weighs less than 800 kilograms. The lightest MRI scanner weighs about 6.8 tons while heavier models weigh as much as 37 tons. They also take up as much as 35m² of space and are as high as 2.5 meters.

Huami MRI Scanner vs Traditional Scanners

Huami says its MRI scanner doesn’t need a specially shielded room which reduces the cost of installation and has an average power consumption of 1kW compared to current scanners that consume between 50kW to 120kW. The MRI scanner also boasts high-quality imaging, and when compared to traditional MRIs, there is a difference of about 300 in the signal-to-noise ratio.

We do not know when the MRI Scanner will be available and how much it will cost but we expect it to be cheaper than a lot of the traditional models.

Huami teases the Amazfit GTR 2 LTE

Back in April, Huami announced the Amazfit GTR 2 eSIM, a variant of the Amzafit GTR 2 with an embedded SIM that allows users to make and receive calls from their watch. Now, the smartwatch is set to get a global launch but as the Amazfit GTR 2 LTE.

The official Amazfit Global Twitter account shared a product video of the smartwatch ahead of its launch. The video highlights some of the key features of the watch such as 4G connectivity, support for 90 sports modes, and onboard storage.

Huami has not yet revealed when the smartwatch will be announced but we believe it should be around the corner.

The addition of an LTE eSIM won’t be the only difference between the Amazfit GTR 2 LTE and the standard version. The version sold in China comes with a smaller 338mAh battery capacity as against the 471mAh battery inside the standard version. We guess Huami had to shrink the battery size to make space for the eSIM. Save for these two differences, the rest of the specs are the same.

So you get a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen, NFC, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, sleep tracking, and blood oxygen level detection. The Amazfit GTR 2 LTE should also have support for Amazon Alexa when it launches.
