ASUS unveils list of Motherboards that support Windows 11 update

Since Microsoft has just unveiled its latest Windows 11 OS, various PC parts manufacturers are working to make their hardware compatible with the new update. Now, ASUS has just unveiled its list of motherboards that support the latest version of Windows.

ASUS

The news arrives from an updated version of the company’s official website’s FAQs sections (spotted by WccFTech). In this section, the Taiwanese PC parts maker revealed the list of motherboards that will be compatible with the upcoming Windows 11 update. For those unaware, Windows 11 is the latest version of Microsoft’s popular Windows platform and has already available for download from leaks online.

Notably, the brand also added a disclaimer that stated that “Windows 11 has not been officially released and there might be stability issues with the Insider Preview build as it has not passed formal hardware validation and qualification. The installation or upgrade to the Windows 11 Insider Preview or any third party software is done at your own discretion and risk. You will be solely responsible for any damage to your system or loss of data that results from that activity. ASUS will not be liable for any losses and damages in connection with the use of Windows 11.”

ASUS

In other words, the company advised caution when upgrading to the newer OS. For those interested, keeping back ups for data and other important settings is a safe practice. Previously, Microsoft had also revealed the hardware requirements for Windows 11. This includes a CPU with two or more cores clocked at 1GHz paired with at least 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. TPM version 2.0 is also required along with a DirectX 12 compatible graphics card among other requirements. Xiaomi leads second hand market for smartphones made in China: Report

A new report has just revealed that Xiaomi is the leader in the second hand market for smartphones that were produced locally in the second quarter of this year in China.

Xiaomi

The news arrives from a recent report from the Zhuanzhuan Group that was titled the “Mobile Phone Market Report for the Second Quarter of 2021.” In this report, it was revealed that the Chinese tech giant overtook Vivo to become the largest domestic smartphone brand in the second hand handset market. Although, the number one brand in terms of transaction volume increase was Honor, which saw a month on month growth rate of a whopping 88.34 percent during the second quarter.

The report also noted an interesting trend, with the price of second hand Apple iPhone witnessing a steady decline in the used market. On the other hand, the prices for the second hand flagship smartphone models from Huawei saw an explosive rise, reaching 96.45 percent for the Mate 40 Pro. While 5G enabled handsets were the market leaders for the new smartphone segment, 4G was still accounted for a notable market share of the second hand market.

Xiaomi

Zhuanzhuan Group’s report also added that the second hand mobile phone market in Q2 saw a 10.76 percent rise in transaction volume over the previous quarter. Talking about the overall market, Apple still led the second hand market with a share of 36.53 percent in Q2. Xiaomi led the domestic brands in this segment, with a 13.88 percent market share. On the other hand, Vivo and Huawei followed close behind with a 12.7 and 12.04 percent market share.

OnePlus may soon enter the tablet category

The Android tablet market had been rapidly declining for the past few years. However, due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the demand for them has soared as people are continuing their job and education from home. As a result, old tablet makers like Xiaomi are expected to make a comeback in the second half of 2021. Similarly, new players are reported to enter the segment. The latest brand expected to launch tablets in the near future is OnePlus.

OnePlus Logo Green

OnePlus is part of OPLUS, which includes OPPO and realme. The latter two brands are being reported to release tablets for months. In fact, realme has even confirmed that its first tablet will be called ‘realme Pad’.

Now, out of the blue, an EUIPO trademark filing by OnePlus reveals that its tablets could be marketed as ‘OnePlus Pad’. Unfortunately, the listing does not reveal anything else.

Since OnePlus is now a sub-brand of OPPO, we can expect the tablets from these three brands to be identical in some way or another. They may run a common ColorOS fork designed specifically for tablets. However, they could ship with some additional features to differentiate from each other.

For years, there have been no good Android tablets in the budget and mid-range segments. This year, Lenovo showed us that companies can do produce affordable tablets like Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2021 (review) with high-end specs.

Hopefully, the new breed of Android tablets from existing players as well as new entrants make a difference in the tablet market, which is dominated by Apple iPads.

India has selected four companies to boost local IT product manufacturing

At the start of this month, India announced the names of four global firms that will be a part of its 1 billion US Dollar incentive plan that aims at producing and boosting exports of laptops, tablets, and personal computers.

India

According to a Reuters report, India named Dell Inc, Wistron Corp’s ICT, Flex Ltd, and Foxconn’s Rising Stars as its choice of global firms that would be a part of its IT product manufacturing boost plans. Furthermore, the local government also selected an additional ten brands as well, including smartphone makers Lava and Dixon, which manufactures TVs for Xiaomi Corp in India. The government revealed the list of firms in a statement recently.

In the plan, these manufacturers will get cash back of 1 to 4 percent of additional sales of locally made products over the course of years. These fours years would have 2019 to 2020 as the base year. So, in the next four years these brands are expected to generate around 1.61 trillion rupees (roughly 21.59 billion US Dollars) from IT hardware. Meanwhile, the efforts are also expected bring about the creation of 36,000 jobs in the region.

India

Notably, the plan would likely also help the Cupertino based giant, Apple, in assembling some of its iPad tablet models in India. For those unaware, new policy push in the electronics field from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has led to Apple suppliers Foxconn and Wistron expanding their presence in their region. At the moment, the country is the second largest smartphone market in the world, so the efforts from the government to increase local production would also benefit the Indian economy as well.

Redmi 6, Redmi 6A get optional MIUI 12 update, there won’t be an OTA release

Back in December 2020, Xiaomi canceled the MIUI 12 update for a bunch of devices, namely Redmi Y3, Redmi 7, Redmi 6, and Redmi 6A. However, the company surprised everyone by releasing the update for Redmi 7. Now, the Redmi 6 and the Redmi 6A are also getting a similar treatment but with a catch.

Redmi 6 Blue Featured
Redmi 6

Xiaomi dropped the plans to update the above-listed smartphones to MIUI 12 citing performance issues. But anyway, the firm delivered the update for Redmi 7. In fact, this handset recently even received the MIUI 12.5 update.

Hence, there was a hope that the remaining three devices could receive the MIUI 12 update someday. That day is finally here. But unfortunately, the update is not meant for everyone.

In an official Xiaomi Mi Community post (via Xiaomi Firmware Updater), the company says that it will not roll out the MIUI 12 update for Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A users via OTA (over-the-air). Because the hardware of these two smartphones cannot handle the new software efficiently.

Therefore, the update is only available as ‘Fastboot ROM’. Interested users can unlock the bootloader of their phone using Xiaomi Mi Unlock Tool and install the firmware via Xiaomi Mi Flash Tool.

Redmi 6A Gold Featured
Redmi 6A

Xiaomi warns that these two phones do not run smoothly on MIUI 12. There are stutters and app opening times are longer. Hence, proceed with caution.

It is worth noting that though MIUI 12 and MIUI 12.5 are available through OTA for Redmi 7, the update is still limited to China. Similarly, the MIUI 12 Fastboot ROM for Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A are also only available for the Chinese variants.

As of now, there’s no official word on whether these three phones will be awarded the latest MIUI update in international words. Last but not least, it is not sure if the Redmi Y3 will ever get the MIUI 12 update.

Realme’s Dizo sub-brand teases a feature phone; could be launched soon

Earlier this year, in the month of May, Realme announced its sub-brand Dizo as a TechLife ecosystem brand for AIoT devices. Now, the new brand has shared a teaser that hints that the company is gearing up to launch a mobile phone.

The poster shared by Dizo teases a mobile phone and not an AIoT device. Note that the phone isn’t clearly visible but a bit of editing reveals that it’s a feature phone with a circular island on the back panel for housing the camera module.

Earlier, an FCC listing had revealed two feature phones from the brand — Dizo Star 500 and Dizo Star 300. The Dizo Star 500 is expected to come with Dual SIM support, 2G connectivity, a microSD card slot, and a 1,830mAh battery.

Both these phones would carry the class T-9 Numpad without any selfie camera. The Dizo Star 500 will reportedly feature a larger screen compared to the Dizo Star 300. Other key specifications such as processor maker, camera specs, and operating system remain unclear but we expect to know more about them pretty soon.

Recently, Dizo showcased a few of its products in the Indian market, including ultra-affordable true-wireless earphones, wireless earphones with neckband style design, a trimmer, hairdryer, and more. Realme has also revealed that the Dizo sub-brand plans to launch around 100 products this year.

We expect the company to reveal more information about the product in question in the coming days. Since the promotion campaign has started, the device could be officially launched in a couple of weeks.
