When it comes to the Android market, manufacturers have different opinions about the software side of their handsets. Some companies prefer to implement a custom UI with additional features in order to distinguish themselves from the competition and provide a richer user experience. Other brands prefer to launch their devices with stock Android for better performance, a bloatware-free user experience, and faster updates. The ZTE sub-brand Nubia has always implemented a custom UI on its devices, but starting from 2018 it will ditch the Nubia UI and release devices with stock Android.
According to the company, the decision made sense because it provided faster updates of the operating system.Upcoming Nubia phones will also have the support for Project Treble by Google, which indeed means quick updates. This decision will interest the Global versions of the upcoming Nubia devices, as the Chinese versions should still be shipped with a custom UI, without Google apps and services.
It has also been confirmed that future Nubia devices will come with Android Oreo out of the box.
Which is your favourite firmware based on Android? Stock Android with better performances and faster updates or custom UI with many additional features and apps?
With each passing day, we draw closer to the launch of the Huawei P20 series. There are already so many leaks on the three devices, but with 3 more weeks of waiting, more are expected. Today’s leak is live photos of the blue variant of the Huawei P20 Lite.
The Huawei P20 was seen on TENAA last week and the pictures provided show the phone in a blue coat of paint. The other two phones – the P20 Lite and P20 Pro are also expected to come in the same blue color, and live photos of the former have surfaced online.
[envira-gallery id=”176738″]
The Huawei P20 Lite is shown rocking dual rear cameras. Although, the camera housing is black, it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb as seen on Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 Pro.
The back appears to be made of glass judging by its reflective nature but the fingerprint scanner is a different material with a different shade of blue.
Even though the picture of the front of the device is taken in the dark, its bezels are most likely black.Thankfully, the display is on and we can see the notch at the top.
The Huawei P20 Lite is expected to come with a 5.84” display with a FHD+ screen. It will be powered by the Kirin 659 and have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is already officially confirmed as coming on March 27 but we may not have to wait until the D-day to scoop some juicy details of the device. Xiaomi has hinted that some interesting details of the Mix 2s would be announced next week.
The upcoming flagship Mi Mix 2s is already known to feature Qualcomm latest Snapdragon 845 processor which pulled a total score of 273,741 points on AnTuTu benchmark as revealed by the tech giant. Apart from this, all other details out in the open were based on speculations and rumours. But seems the tech giant will share some teasers of the device from next week. The Weibo post from Xiaomi phone’s official Weibo page of some important announcement seems to suggest that.
We have absolutely no idea what important news would be announced next week but we are certain it has to do with the Mi Mix 2S considering the hashtag attached to the post. As stated, the first teaser we saw was for the Snapdragon 845 chip and next week could be time for more teasers. Keep a tab on this page for more news on the Mi Mix 2s.
When a search is conducted to collate the premium flagship models, Samsung would definitely be at the top of the list. The same thing applies to the midrange category and now, Samsung seems to have got the budget cadre covered as well. The Galaxy J-series is more or less a budget series and Samsung has got quite a number of J-series models in the works. The Galaxy J3 2018 has made an appearance on Geekbench which is an indication that the device is in the works.
The Galaxy J3 variants are listed with the model numbers SM-J337A and SM-J337P which is an indication that one would be the Galaxy J3 and the other is the Galaxy J3 Pro. Both models don’t have the same processor onboard, as the SM-J337A comes with an Exynos 7570 processor with a base frequency of 1.4GHz which is the same SoC on the Galaxy J3 (2017). On the other hand, the SM-J337P model features an Exynos 7885 SoC clocked at 1.5GHz. Both models pack 2GB of RAM and will run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
No word yet on when the models would be unveiled but we expect them to drop soon. Since Samsung is now trying to gain lost ground on the mid-tier/budget segment, we could see these models launched at affordable prices.
MediaTek unveiled the Helio P60, its latest processor, at MWC 2018 on Monday. However, there was no mention of the OEMs that have signed on to use the chipset in their phones.
While MediaTek has kept mum on its clients’ names, one leaker has decided to disclose not only the name of one of the OEM’s but also the exact phone coming with the chipset.
According to Twitter leaker – @MMDDJ_, the OPPO R15 will come with MediaTek’s new Helio P60. Surprised? So are we.
The R-series is OPPO’s flagship series and it has always settled for Qualcomm’s upper mid-range chipsets. At the moment, the Snapdragon 660 is the most powerful chipset in Qualcomm’s mid-range line and it already powered the OPPO R11/R11 Plus and OPPO R11s/R11s Plus. So, it doesn’t make sense to use the chipset again.
OPPO R15 render leak
What about the Snapdragon 670? Qualcomm has not announced it yet and rumors say it won’t arrive till the second half of the year. But with the timing of the leaks of the OPPO R15, it appears OPPO won’t be waiting till then to release its new phone.
Although, it did release the OPPO R11/R11 Plus in the second half of 2017, let us not also forget that the OPPO R9 was announced in March in 2016. With the Snapdragon 660 out of the way, MediaTek’s Helio P60 is the chipset to turn to and for good reason.
The Helio P60 as we saw in benchmark tests offers the same performance as the Snapdragon 660 but unlike the SD660 which is a 14nm processor, the Helio P60 is a 12nm chip. As we already know, a smaller node process brings improvements in performance and power management.
Oppo is not the only BBK company which is planning to release new upper-midrange devices focused on camera and innovation. Right after OPPO teased its upcoming R15 and R15 Plus, Vivo X21 has received the official Chinese 3C certification. According to the listing, the upcoming handset will be released in four different variants: Vivo X21, X21UD, X21A and X21 UD A. We guess that the first two variants will be the most powerful and expensive ones, while the third and the fourth one will be their affordable alternatives.
The two UD variants will feature an under-display fingerprint scanner just like the Vivo X20 Plus UD, thanks to the chip launched by Synaptics around the end of 2017. So, with the Under-Display versions of the Vivo X21, it will be possible to unlock the phone just by touching the display. According to the latest rumours, the device will have a custom borderless display supplied by Samsung. At least the first two variants of the handset, i.e. the X21 and the X21 UD, are expected to come with the octa-core Snapdragon 670 SoC by Qualcomm.
This processor is still not official, but given that Qualcomm has just announced the Snapdragon 700 series at MWC 2018 we guess that SD670 too will be unveiled soon. Vivo X21 is also tipped to come with 18W fast charging, but it was expected given that Snapdragon 6xx usually support Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology. We do not know whether the X21 and X21 A will come with a notch.
Recent leaks have already shown a Vivo V9 with a notch, which is similar to the upcoming Oppo R15 and R15 Plus, at least in its front panel. The V9 will offer a 24 MP selfie camera according to a poster spotted in Indonesia. However, considering that there will be a UD version of the X21, expect a very high screen-to-body ratio.
OPPO R15 recently filtered into the rumour mill when a teaser of the device was released. The major stand out feature on the teaser was the display notch which the device packs similar to that of iPhone X. The design has turned out to be real as two promotional videos for the OPPO R15 have been spotted on Tencent. We have converted the video to Youtube videos so you can view them easily from here.
OPPO is one of the numerous Chinese OEMs that are never shy of copying Apple’s design, in the past and this time around the iPhone X is the subject of such copycat. Since the iPhone X is one of the most popular phones you’ll find around, it is not a surprise. The two videos seem to be for the OPPO R15 and OPPO R15 Dream Mirror Edition flagships but they both basically look the same. The company confirmed the names of the new models a few days back with a teaser image which comes with the display notch design. That is now reaffirmed with the outage of these videos. Here’s one of the promotional videos.
Apart from the notch design, the OPPO R15 is expected to feature an advanced facial recognition tech but the video didn’t give us a clue of any of the models’ specs. The video only teases the presence of artificial intelligence (AI) technology on the device. The facial recognition could be similar to what Apple does, unlike other software-based recognition technologies, but we can’t be sure at the moment. Other rumoured features include gesture enabled virtual home button, vertically stacked dual cameras, and Color OS 4.0 with Android 8.1 Oreo. There’s also speculation that the new R15 models will feature the upcoming Snapdragon 670 chipset, but as of now, there’s no confirmation about the same. We also don’t know when the R15 would go official but we expect that to happen in no distant time. Check out the second video below.
Xiaomi has released the 367th-week update for its MIUI custom ROM and among other things, the update adds facial unlock to two Xiaomi models. According to reports, the Xiaomi Mi 6 and Mi Mix 2 has now got face unlock feature as a result of the update.
This is coming on the heels of the Redmi Note 5 Pro getting update which usher in face unlock. Just like the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the new face unlock feature for the Mi 6 and Mi Mix 2 utilises the front camera to identify the complexion and when compared to the iris recognition and 3D depth of field recognition, it is less secure. people with similar appearances with you can as well unlock your device through the facial recognition.
To add these features, users will need to update to the latest version which ordinarily should be through OTA. When that is done, the feature can be found under “Setting”- “Lock screen, password and fingerprint ” and then “Add face data”. With this additional biometric recogniton method, users of the Mi 6 and Mi Mix 2 now have the options of fingerpirnt unlock, pattern, password, pin and facial recognition to block access to their private date on the phone. Head over to MIUI forum to find out more details.
Samsung has just two series of indestructible rugged phones: the Active variants of the S series and the Samsung Galaxy XCover handsets. According to Roland Quandt, the new photo surfaced online about an upcoming rugged phone by Samsung does not represent the Samsung Galaxy S9 Active. This is why everyone is assuming that it may be the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 5.
From the photo, we can clearly see the upper half of the rear panel of the handset. The device has a tough and solid frame which should allow the device to resist drops from heights. Indeed, Samsung Galaxy XCover 5 is said to have the military certification (MIL-STD-810G), and it should also be waterproof and dust-resistant with the IP68 certification. On its rear panel, the alleged Samsung Galaxy XCover 5 has a single camera paired with a triple LED flash which should be very bright.
The photo does not come with the possible specs of the Samsung Galaxy XCover 5, but this line-up has always had midrange specs. So expect good quality-price ratio, even though rugged phones always have a more expensive price tag than normal Android phones with the same specs. Unfortunately, we still have no info about the release date of the device.
Xiaomi has got several partners especially under its ecological products category and one of such is Yunmai. The company is best known for the Smart Weighing scale which has been one of the rapid selling products released under Xiaomi’s crowdfunding platform. Yunmai has just launched an exercise Powerball which comes with a 69 Yuan (~$10) price tag.
Powerball is perfect for the rehabilitation of Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSIs), Sprains, Breaks & Fractures and general wrist strengthening. The device is also useful for the treatment of wrist pain and other conditions that affect the wrist. The device is purely mechanical and does not need any power, neither will any electromagnetic radiation be produced. The use also extends to merely relieving stress and strengthening of the muscle around the hands.
The Powerball has a rotor, also called green wheel, which spins on its axis creating resistance against the user. This resistance is created by the rotor as you turn your wrists which is known as gyroscopic precision. The faster the rotor spins the more resistance there is to the user’s hand. This resistance is purely isometric which makes it ideal for rehabilitation, exercise and wrist pain relief. The shell of the Yunmai wrist exercise Powerball is made of polycarbonate material with a built-in aluminium alloy plating core. It is highly stable and will not crack since the part of the structure of the boot has been optimized to promote smoother and lower noise. In addition, it has a built-in automatic elastic device as well as an array of light which comes on as the device spins.
A new Meizu M6S with model number M712Q-B has been seen on TENAA. The new model has generally the same specs as the original but with different memory and storage configurations.
Meizu launched the M6S in 3GB + 32GB and 3GB + 64GB models. However, the new TENAA listing mentions new 6GB and 4GB models with 128GB ROM and 32GB ROM respectively, in addition to a 3GB + 64GB ROM model.
Our focus is actually on the 6GB RAM variant. While the Meizu M6S is indeed a mid-range phone, it won’t be the first to come with 6GB of RAM but it will be one of the few we have heard to have 128GB of storage.
There is no information regarding when the new memory variants will launch but expect them to sell for more than the currently available ones.
The Meizu M6S is the first Meizu smartphone to come with an 18:9 display. It is a 5.7” screen with a 1440 x 720 resolution. It is also the first device to be powered by an Exynos 7872 processor.
Plenty of information of the upcoming Moto E5 series have been revealed since the start of this year. Leaks have revealed that the Moto E5 series will comprise of Moto E5 Play, Moto E5 and Moto E5 Plus. A tipster named Andrim Yatim has been consistently leaking information on the upcoming Motorola phones. According to the tipster, the Moto E5 Play would be replacing the Moto C series this year and it would be coming with basic specs and large-sized battery. Earlier this week, he had also revealed the key specs of Moto E5 Play, Moto E5 and Moto E5 Plus.
Moto E5 Play
Yatim claims that Moto E5 Play will be coming with a 5.2-inch display that will support a traditional aspect ratio of 16:9 and it will produce an HD resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. Its back panel will be housing a 12-megapixel snapper whereas the frontside will be equipped with a 5-megapixel camera. It will be receiving power from 4,000mAh capacity battery.
Motorola has never launched a Play edition for its Moto E series. However, it is arriving for the first time this year. Earlier this week, an official teaser from Huawei had confirmed that its upcoming flagship will arrive with P20 moniker. The rumor mill has been speculating that the advanced edition of the P20 that is rumored to feature triple camera setup may launch with P20 Plus or P20 Pro moniker. Yesterday, Android Central Executive Editor had shared an image of a billboard in Barcelona, Spain where the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 tech expo was recently held. The billboard reveals that the Huawei will be launching P20 and P20 Pro smartphones on March 27. By this, it can be said that the advanced P20 will be hitting the market as P20 Pro, and not as P20 Plus.
The rough translation of the Spanish text on billboard suggests that Huawei will bring forth the rebirth of photography through P20 and P20 Pro. The Chinese manufacturer has also highlighted “IA” letters twice in the billboard. In Spanish, IA is a short form of inteligencia artificial. It indicates that the P20 and P20 Plus will deliver stellar photography experience through AI. Well, AI capabilities on Huawei P20 Huawei P20 and P20 Pro will be brought by about by Kirin 970 chipset that has a dedicated NPU unit for handling artificial intelligence tasks. A recent teaser by the company has revealed that the upcoming flagship phones will be able to shoot amazing photos in dim-light conditions.
Rumors have it that the P20 will be sporting a dual camera setup whereas the triple camera system will be placed on the back panel of the P20 Plus. Shown above are the leaked renders of the P20 and P20 Pro. The Chinese manufacturer will be also launching a low powered P20 as P20 Lite. Even though the rumor mill has revealed plenty of information on the specs and features of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S flagship phone, none of the leaked photos have managed to reveal the actual design of the phone. A conceptual product design of the Mi MIX 2S has appeared on YouTube. It shows the Mi MIX 2S concept phone with a very impressive design that will even put the upcoming Vivo APEX concept phone to shame.
The first-generation Xiaomi Mi MIX and its successor Mi MIX 2 are both equipped with tri-bezeless design. In other words, expect for a slightly bezel at the bottom, the other three bezels surrounding the display are quite slim. The concept renders of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S show that it features thinner bezels on all the four sides of the display. The Vivo APEX concept phone is rumored to feature a screen-to-body ratio of 98 percent. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S concept model suggests that its screen-to-body ratio could be very close to 100 percent.
The concept model does not reveal the exact placement of the selfie camera. Interestingly, Xiaomi had applied for a patent for hidden front camera in early 2015. Hence, it could be featuring a flip-up camera like the forthcoming Vivo APEX concept phone. The other sensors could be embedded under the screen.
The backside of the phone features a vertically stacked dual camera setup at the top left corner. There is dual-tone LED flash placed between the two camera sensors. Lastly, the handset seems to be sporting a ceramic chassis.
The above renders are not leaked photos or press renders of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S that will be launching on March 27. They have been created by imagination probably on the basis of rumors surrounding the Mi MIX 2S.
