Huawei has announced that its EMUI 9 update has begun rolling out to some of its older flagships. These devices include the Mate 9 series (Mate 9, Mate 9 Pro, and Mate 9 Porsche Design) which all originally launched with EMUI 5.0 based on Android Nougat.

The Mate 9 series was announced back in 2016 and came with Nougat pre-installed. They later got updated to EMUI 8.0 based on Android Oreo in 2017 and now they are getting upgraded to Android Pie.

The EMUI 9.0 update is also rolling out to the Huawei P10 and Huawei P10 Plus which also launched with Android Nougat. The Honor V9, Honor 9, and Nova 2s also join the pie party.

If you own any of these devices, all you have to do is go to the Huawei Services app, select service, and then upgrade.

EMUI 9.0 brings a number of new features. System performance has been improved and application startup times have reduced. It also brings AI features, GPU Turbo, support for face unlock and WeChat fingerprint payment.

The Honor 7X launched in 2017 with Android Nougat out of the box. It later got an update that brought Android Oreo. Now Honor seems to be working on releasing EMUI 9.0 based on Android Pie for it.

The Chinese variants of the phone recently received a beta build of EMUI 9 which means a stable update should arrive in the near future. The Chinese variants that have gotten the beta build have model numbers BND-AL00, BND-TL10, and BND-AL10. Below are the build numbers for each of them:

1. BND-AL00C00E42R2P2B43-log (9.0.1.43)
2. BND-TL10C01E42R1P2B43-log (9.0.1.43)
3. BND-AL10C01E42R1P2B43-log (9.0.1.43)

Huawei still hasn’t issued an official statement about Android Pie coming to the Honor 7X but we do not think they would go through the stress of releasing a beta build if there isn’t a plan to release a stable version.

Huawei has begun rolling out a stable Android Pie update to the Mate 9. The 2016 flagship was part of the devices confirmed for the beta program a few months ago. Now owners can check for the stable update on their device.

The update comes as EMUI 9.0.1.150 and brings a ton of new features to the phone. Apart from Android Pie’s own unique features, the update brings HiVision which is Huawei’s take on Google Lens which not only identifies objects or famous monuments but can also identify the number of calories in your food. HiVision also brings real-time translation to the phone.

There is also Huawei Share – a one-click wireless printing feature. With just the tap of a button, you can print documents from supported printers without the need of a cable or another device.

The UI has also gotten an overhaul with Huawei focusing on natural elements and sounds. There is also a feature similar to Digital Wellbeing that monitors app usage including duration spent viewing notifications and time spent on each app. It also turns all the colors gray at a preset time to make it easy for you to drop your phone and go to sleep.

This update is rolling out in China at the moment. We believe it will be released for the rest of the world soon. This is the Mate 9’s second major OS update since it launched in November 2016. There is a chance it might be its last.

Huawei‘s terminal mobile phone product line, He Gang, has disclosed that the company will continue its massive upgrade of its models to EMUI 9.0 based on Android Pie this year. Last year, the company was able to push EMUI 9.0 update to 23 Huawei models with an estimated 6 million users getting the upgrade. Now, He Gang is saying that the upgrade will continue this year, and will benefit a total of 150 million users.

This disclosure has shown that the company is yet to even push EMUI 9.0 to up to 10% of the users of its smartphones and we’re sure most of the updates were pushed to users in China. The 150 million targeted users are expected to extend beyond China to the rest of the world. However, the timeline for the update wasn’t disclosed but we hope all models will get updated quite early. That may not happen anyway as some models might still be getting EMUI 9 updates when EMUI 10 would have been unveiled.

To recall, EMUI 9.0 comes with some changes in the UI which Huawei says makes it “Simple, Enjoyable and Consistent.” The changes include new gesture controls which aid users to quickly navigate, multitask and open the AI assistant. There is also a new password manager capable of auto-filling passwords using ID verification from the fingerprint scanner or via facial recognition. The settings menu wasn’t spared as the items there have been trimmed down. EMUI 9 also comes with GPU Turbo 2.0 which reduces the touch response of the phone by 36% and adds a new app assistant. This new GPU 2.0 feature will support four more games: Vainglory, Arena of Valor, Rules of Survival, and NBA 2K18. These are in addition to PUBG and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang which also carries support for the second generation version of GPU Turbo.

When the Honor Magic 2 was announced, it was revealed it would be running EMUI 9.0 out of the box. However, Honor said there will be an update which will bring a new user interface called Magic UI 2.0 to the phone. That update has started rolling out.

The update which is pretty small, just 214MB in size, not only brings a new UI but also comes with November’s security patch. The changelog says Magic UI puts the focus on AI. If you remember, the Honor Magic 2 has an AI assistant called YoYo with features like in-call live voice translation and a feature similar to Google Duplex.

Magic UI 2.0 also brings a new color scheme, icons, and fonts which means your phone will look really different after applying the update. Apart from that and the features YoYo brings, the guys at XDA-Developers say Magic UI 2.0 isn’t really different from EMUI 9.

If you are the proud owner of the Honor Magic 2, you can go on and check for the update. If it isn’t available, you will have to wait since updates are usually released in batches.

The Honor Magic 2 has a slider design which lets it adopt a bezel-less screen. The front cameras and sensors are placed on the second half of the phone and are visible when you slide the phone down.

The screen is a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Powering the phone is a Kirin 980 processor with 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of expandable storage. There are three cameras on the rear of the phone – 16MP + 16MP + 24MP and another three cameras in front – 16MP + 2MP + 2MP.

The Honor Magic 2 also has a fingerprint scanner under the display, support for 3D face unlock, Bluetooth 5.0 and a USB Type-C port. It packs a 3,500mAh battery and supports 40W fast-charging.

Huawei has announced the new flagship devices, Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro a few days back at an event in London. Many ultimate features have been added in the Mate 20 series. It is powered by Android’s first 7nm chipset, Kirin 980. It brings curved OLED display manufactured by BOE in China. It is coupled with a 40 MP Quad wide-angle lens, a 20 MP sensor with f/2.2 ultra wide angle lens and an 8MP 80 mm f/2.2 telephoto camera. In a bid to utilize the dual NPUs on Kirin 980, Huawei is set for debut rollout of AI-based EMUI 9.0 on Mate 20 series.

Huawei EMUI 9.0 was introduced last month and was slated for launch on Huawei P20, P20 Pro and Mate 10 Pro. Now, the list of compatible devices has expanded due to the addition of newly launched Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro devices.

After Huawei Mate 10 Pro, Honor is rolling out the Android 9.0 Pie update to the Honor View 10 in Europe. Many new features and changes are present in the latest 9.0.0.108 build based on EMUI9.0. Currently, it is rolling out in the European market for Huawei View 10 BKL-L09. A few weeks ago, Honor View 10 received an update with Turbo GPU which was slated to improve the gaming performance by 60%.

This time, Honor has received Android 9.0 based EMUI 9.0 update with many new changes in the User Interface of the device. Honor has made EMUI 9.0 compatible with the notch displays by adjusting its design elements as accordingly. Other changes include new gesture-based navigation, Manual theme selection, New Quick Settings UI, Android 9.0 based volume slider, Adaptive brightness and much more.

The update is rolling out via OTA (Over-the-Air) for different variants of Honor View 10. It is an incremental update, and it will be available for a small number of users first, then after the successful acceptance, the rollout will begin for the wider audience. During emergency, a smartphone can be the only way to seek help. Having a shortcut button can be the quickest possible to reach an emergency contact. On iPhone, users can hold the power and one of the volume buttons access Emergency SOS slider. Dragging the slider will make the iPhone call to a pre-defined emergency contact. After the phone call, the iPhone will send share the user location consistently at regular intervals of 10 minutes. Huawei has today confirmed the arrival of emergency SOS function for its smartphone through its official EMUI Weibo account.

The updated EMUI 9.0 now features emergency SOS function. The first set of phones to receive the function are Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and Mate 10 Porsche Design smartphones. Huawei is now actively working on bringing the emergency help function to its other smartphones.

Here is how Huawei phone users can access the emergency SOS function on their smartphones. As shown in the image above, the user can press the power button 5 times during an emergency situation. The help information will be automatically sent through SMS to pre-configured emergency contact number. It will also send current geographic location of the user.

At present, the emergency SOS function available on EMUI 9.0 does not support sending real-time user location. The Chinese manufacturer is working on it and it will be made available in the near future.

It appears that the SOS function will be available first on Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and Mate 10 Porsche Design smartphones in China. There is no confirmation on when the company will be making it available for global versions of Huawei devices.

Xiaomi and Meizu are currently working on bringing emergency SOS function to their devices in China It is only that Huawei, the world’s second largest smartphone manufacturer has introduced the emergency SOS function to its smartphones.

Huawei announced its latest EMUI 9 custom ROM based on Android 9.0 Pie on Saturday. The new UI will make its full debut onboard the Mate 20 which is expected to be announced next month. However, the company has commenced the roll out of a beta version of the EMUI 9 for certain Huawei and Honor models. 

Details released by the company indicate that the EMUI 9.0 beta program is open for Huawei Mate 10, Mate 20 Pro, Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. The Honor models include the Honor 10, Honor View 10 and Honor Play. This isn’t restricted to China so, if you own any of the listed models, head over to  Huawei’s Friendly User Test page where you’ll need to download the beta app and then sign up for an account before applying to join the program. Since this is a beta version, though, not all features will work properly. There may likely be bugs which beta testers are expected to report when detected in the course of usage.

Just as we reported yesterday, Huawei has officially announced openings for beta testers that would be among the early adopters of its Android Pie OS upgrade in China. The upgrade is going to cover nine (9) different Huawei models and these include the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, Mate 10 Porsche Design, Mate RS Porsche Design, P20, P20 Pro, Honor 10, Honor V10, and Honor Play.

The upgrade will not only usher in new features that come with Android 9.0 Pie but will also usher in Huawei’s own EMUI 9.0 custom skin. Huawei is yet to disclose the features EMUI 9 will bring along with it but Android 9.0 Pie comes with several new features, one of which is a new navigation system. With Android Pie, navigation is now gesture-based. There is also a new feature called Adaptive Battery which uses machine learning to improve power management. There is also adaptive brightness and a number of UI changes.

The recruitment exercise is open for users of the 9 eligible models in China via Huawei’s Pollen Club EMUI forum’s website. Google unceremoniously released the Android 9.0 Pie operating system for the Pixel and Pixel 2 smartphones as well as the Essential Phone earlier this month. Since then, it has been speculations galore as to the third-party models that would get updated to Android Pie. Huawei was reported to have started testing the new OS on the P20, Mate 10 Pro, Honor 10 and Honor V10 and that it would announce the upgrade at IFA 2018. The Chinese firm’s Android Pie version is reportedly coming with EMUI 9.0 customization.

It has now been revealed that Huawei will officially open the Android 9.0 Pie internal test recruitment on August 28and that this recruitment of testers will be for 9 models. According to the details scooped from Huawei’s Pollen Club, the models are the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, Mate 10 Porsche Design, Mate RS Porsche Design, P20, P20 Pro, Honor 10, Honor V10, Honor Play. The beta upgrade plan for other models is still not known.

Android Pie has been made official just a couple of weeks ago and it is only available on smartphones from the Google Pixel line-up and the Essential Phone PH-1. But Huawei will soon bring the new major version of the operating system on its devices. According to a company’s official, the new custom user interface EMUI 9.0 based on Android Pie will be officially announced at IFA 2018 in Berlin, one of the most important hi-tech related trade shows of the year which will take place on August 31.

The company has also confirmed that the first updates to the new version will start to roll out right after the announcement. We don’t know if the company will start updating its handset from the day after, but surely the update will start coming in September. If so, Huawei will be among the first companies to update its main handsets to Android Pie. The first smartphones to receive the update will be the ones from the Huawei P20 series. Together with them, the Mate 10 series (including the RS Porsche Design edition) will receive the update notification as well, but it is not said that it will roll out at the same time.

It is speculated that the Mate 9 series may join too. There is no official confirmation regarding all the other devices from the Chinese company. But we presume that some of the most important flagships from the Honor sub-brand will be updated as well, such as Honor 10 and V10. Just to remind you, it has been previously confirmed that the company is working on testing the update even for these two devices. EMUI 9.0 based on Android Pie will surely bring several improvements, just like every major Android version. Among these ones, there will surely be a better battery management.
