Users of Huawei Nova 3 and Honor 10 smartphones have received a new software update which brings support for several new features. The Huawei Nova 3 is getting updated to v9.0.0.181 (C00E87R1P6) while the Honor 10 is getting v9.0.0.181 (C00E181R1P20).

The update for Nova 3 is about 457MB while the update for Honor 10 is about 364MB. The new update brings support for a feature that lets users use your voice to unlock your phone and make payments, new Android security patch, among others.

The feature, named Bone ID, uses bone conduction technology to match the pattern of the voice of the user. Using this Bone ID, owners can simply use their voice to unlock their phone or authorize payment transactions.

Notably, this is the biggest update for both these smartphones till date. It brings support for FlyPods Pro Bluetooth headsets and payments function which can now be controlled through voice-based commands. For those who are unaware, FlyPods Pro is a wireless Bluetooth headset launched by Huawei in October 2018 along with Honor Magic 2 smartphone.

The update also brings a new version of the Android system security patch, ensuring that the smartphones are up-to-date in terms of security to minimize risks. It also brings fixes for screen playback issues where the screen turns black during multi-tasking.

The company has also introduced a few AI-based features such as AI Smart Scheduling that enhances the phone’s gaming experience. Huawei is currently rolling out the update over-the-air (OTA) and should be available for everyone to update.

Huawei recently started rolling out Android Pie on several devices all around the world. Now it is finally the moment for the Indian units of the Huawei P20 Pro and Huawei Nova 3. The company has teased the arrival of the final Android Pie update for these two high-end phones through a post from its official accounts in various social networks. The post contains an image which lists the Android Pie update as “coming soon” for both the handsets in India. Even in a country as small as Italy, the update started rolling out days ago. Unfortunately, the company decided not to disclose the exact date when Huawei P20 Pro and Huawei Nova 3 will start getting the update in India. But we believe only a few days are separating us from the final roll out. Given that both the handsets are equipped with the octa-core Kirin 970 chipset, there is a high chance that all the other Kirin 970-powered Huawei devices will get the Android Pie update in the near future. Design

Huawei managed to release devices with stunning designs in the last year. One of them is Huawei Nova 3, a high-end smartphone which comes with a glossy back made of glass available in gradient colors. Its display has a big notch in the middle, but thanks to it there are very narrow bezels. On the other hand, Meizu 16 has the most original design, it has a high screen-to-body ratio even though it does not feature a notch, as well as an in-display fingerprint reader.

Display

The display of Meizu 16 is the one I like more because, besides integrating an in-display fingerprint reader, it is a Super AMOLED panel with brilliant colors and deep blacks. Nokia 8.1 and Huawei Nova 3 both come with an IPS notched panel and a Full HD+ resolution, but I would prefer Huawei Nova 3 because of its narrower bezels and its bigger size. Even though they come with wide viewing angles and a pretty high brightness, they are just average panels.

Specs & Software

The Snapdragon 845 and the Kirin 980 are currently the best chipsets available in the Android market. Sadly, Huawei Nova 3 still has the Kirin 970, while Nokia 8.1 has the upper-midrange SoC Snapdragon 710. So Meizu 16 is the most performing handset with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 which is paired with up to 8 GB of RAM in the most expensive variant. But if you go for it, you will have to say goodbye to the micro SD slot. Android One is on board of the Nokia 8.1 and it it is based on Android Pie, while Huawei Nova 3 and Meizu 16 come with EMUI and Flyme OS based on Android Oreo.

Camera

Cameras are the strongest point of Nokia handsets, and it is the same for the new Nokia 8.1. But there is a very marginal difference between the camera performances of these three handsets. I would personally prefer Meizu 16 because of its accurate autofocus and OIS which do a really nice job with photos sharpness. But Nokia 8.1 is able to provide outstanding performance as well, especially in the most disadvantageous scenarios. Huawei Nova 3 is definitely the best when it comes to selfies because of its dual front camera.

Battery

Huawei Nova 3 provides an impressive battery life with a 30-40 percent of remaining charge even after a long day of use. Nokia 8.1 can last a single day too, but Huawei Nova 3 results slightly better in many scenarios. Meizu 16 has definitely a too small battery to compete with its opponents, so it loses the battle. But on the other hand, it is able to charge very fastly thanks to its proprietary mCharge technology.

Price

Nokia 8.1 debuted in Europe with a €400 price tag, Meizu 16 costs €410 in its base variant and Huawei Nova 3 can be purchased for about €400 as well. With the actual prices, I would go for the Nokia 8.1 because of its good battery and very nice cameras. I would have chosen the Meizu 16 if it had a bigger battery.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro has the best hardware performance as well as the best camera department, with two 12 MP rear cameras, 2x optical zoom, and OIS. It captures a stunning detail even in low-light conditions and it can even record 4K videos at 60 fps. The second place goes to Huawei Nova 3 with an above average rear camera and a dual front camera.

Battery

Meizu 16 and Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro did not satisfy us so much when it came to battery life. They have below-average batteries compared with today’s standards. But Huawei Nova 3 is convincing thanks to its bigger 3750 mAh battery which can last for one day even with a pretty intensive use.

Price

These devices’ prices range from about €400 to about €500. Meizu 16 and Huawei Nova 3 are currently available on the €400/$453 price range and Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro costs about €500/$567 but you can also find it at €450/$510 thanks to online street prices. The device I like more is definitely the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro, but not for its battery life. If you want a long lasting phone, then choose Huawei Nova 3.

Huawei is rolling out an update for its recently launched, Huawei Nova 3. The update packs various bug fixes and improvements which will make your device smoother and optimise it for better performance. Both Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i have been officially announced back in July, but they went on sale for the first time in India less than two weeks ago. Further, the former device was only available through flash sales and many potential buyers were left with empty hands. Finally, the Nova 3 is going to be available in the first open sale. Starting from August 23, the handset will be officially available on Amazon India with exactly the same price tag as the flash sales: INR 34,999 Yuan, which roughly translates to about $501 at the actual change.

Besides the Huawei Nova 3, its more affordable version Nova 3i (also known as Huawei P Smart Plus in the European market) will be made available in the Iris Purple gradient color variant (it goes from blue to violet) starting from August 21 on Amazon India. The price tag of this version will be INR 20,990, which translates into $300. Until now, the Nova 3i has obtained a very warm response from the public with very high sales in the Indian peninsula, but it was only available in the less original Black color variant.

Just to remind you, Huawei Nova 3 is a high-end handset with the octa-core Kirin 970 chipset under the hood, paired with 6 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of internal storage depending on the chosen configuration. It packs a 6.3-inch display with very narrow bezels and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, as well as four cameras, two on the back with 16 and 24 MP resolutions (f/1.8 aperture) and two on the front with 24 and 2 MP resolutions (f/2.0). Last month, Huawei launched its two new mid-range phones — Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i in China. Later, both the models were introduced in the Indian market. Now, it’s time for the phone’s debut in Taiwan.

The previous report mentioned that both the phones will launch in Taiwan by the end of this month. Now, Huawei has officially revealed that the Nova 3 and Nova 3i will be launched in Taiwan at a press event on 23rd August. No further details are available related to the devices, including pricing and availability.

The Huawei Nova 3 features a large 6.3-inch Full HD+ display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 2340 x 1080 pixels screen resolution. Under the hood, it is powered by the company’s own flagship chipset Kirin 970 AI, which is coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.

The device comes with the company’s recently launched GPU Turbo technology that promises a 60% increase in performance and 30% battery saving. There’s a dual-camera setup on the back, consisting of a 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 24-megapixel secondary camera sensor on the back, with one being a color sensor and other being monochrome.

The camera has f/1.8 aperture lens, phase detection autofocus, contrast AF, artificial intelligence-based scene recognition, short video effects via artificial intelligence and even HDR Pro. While the Nova 3 is priced at Rs. 34,999 ($509), the Nova 3i will be available in Black, White and Blue colors for Rs. 20,990 (approximately $306).

Huawei’s premium smartphones, the new nova 3 and the nova 3i are ready to hit India market with everything about the launch ready. It has been announced and invitations have been sent to the media for the launch that would take place on July 26 in India. The smartphone also sports dual camera set up on both sides, with a dual 16+2MP rear camera and 24 MP + 2 MP selfie camera. It is powered by a 3340mAh battery. From this, it’s clear that both devices have some similarities, which includes a 6.3-inch, 19.5:9 2340×1080 IPS LCD on both device and a dual 24+2MP front camera system.

As the Nova 3 which was launched yesterday goes on sale today (July 19), we take a look at the camera samples captured by the front and rear cameras. As you’d recall, the Huawei Nova 3 joins the class of smartphones which pack four cameras. The device features a dual camera setup at the back and also for selfies. Thus, the camera is expected to perform creditably well and it did just that. The camera samples show the device really packs a powerful camera setup. Although the Nova 3 camera setup may not be at the same level as the flagship P20 Pro, the samples are not disappointing either. Since it packs flagship specs, we’ll have to wait for DXOMark’s review to see where the camera ranks against the P20 Pro.

The Huawei Nova 3 doesn’t only pack a capable camera hardware, the device equally features a good software support which ensures the photos are well optimised. For instance, the front camera supports AI features as well as an enhanced beauty mode. As for the configuration, the front camera is made up of a 24MP f/2.0 sensor along with a secondary 2MP sensor. While the rear camera is composed of a 16MP +24MP dual camera setup (Color + B/W sensors) with f/1.8 aperture lens, PDAF, contrast AF, AI scene recognition (22 categories and 500 different scenes), short video effects via AI.

The camera samples show the Nova 3’s camera performance under different lighting conditions. The image quality is topnotch. The Nova 3 does a very good job in terms of exposure. Target exposure is spot-on in most situations, even in very low light conditions, and the sample images show a very good dynamic range. Even in difficult high-contrast lighting conditions, the Nova 3 cameras are able to preserve a lot of detail in the bright parts of a scene.

The Nova 3 portrait scene captured by the selfie camera is also spot on as seen above. Exposure on the subject is very good. At the same time, the camera is capable of preserving a lot of the bright background detail.  In all, the Nova 3 front and rear camera setup are pretty impressive especially since they team up with the Kirin 970 AI chipset. Huawei’s Nova series have always been a mid-range lineup, but that’s going to change with the new Nova 3. There have been strong leaks and teasers which suggested that this particular device would be a little different from its predecessors in terms of specs, but today, after an official listing on Huawei’s VMALL, the phone’s specs have been confirmed. And we now know for sure that the Huawei Nova 3 is a high-end device. It might not be in line with the P20 series, but it’s definitely placed near to the Honor series with the powerful Kirin 970 chipset inside.

Kirin 970 will be a very big upgrade to the Nova lineup which has always used mid-range processors like the Kirin 659. And once again, Huawei has proved that it’s not shy to use the same chipset on a lot of smartphones. The Kirin 970 is shared by a lot of smartphones like the Honor 10, V10, Honor Play, P20 series and even the Mate series. But that doesn’t change the fact that its a powerful flagship grade chipset and hence, Huawei Nova 3’s performance should really be close to powerful flagships of 2018.

VMALL listing also reveals a few other specs like a large 6.3-inch 1080p display, 6GB + 128GB ROM, 16MP+24MP f/1.8 rear camera, 24MP +2MP f/2.0 front camera and 3750mAh battery. There will be four color options: Aqua Blue, Primrose Gold, Nebula Purple, Black.

In short, Huawei has really boosted the Nova series with the new Nova 3. The Nebula Purple is very similar to P20 Pro’s gradient color option and the overall specs are in line with other upper mid-range / flagship smartphones of 2018.

We still don’t know the pricing of the new handset, but we’ll get more details on July 18 when the company will officially take the wraps of the device.

We are just a week away from the official launch of the Huawei Nova 3, which will come alongside the fitness tracker Huawei TalkBand B5. Today, a new picture is showing a lot of information about the upcoming smartphone and some of the detail are surprising. According to the picture, the handset will not be a mid-ranger as you may have thought if you know its predecessors 1 and 2, but it will be a flagship.

Indeed, the leaked specs sheet mentions the presence of an octa-core Kirin 970 chipset, which is the best processor by Huawei, running at a max frequency of 2.4 GHz. Further, Huawei Nova 3 will come with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. Its body will measure 157 x 73.7 x 7.3 mm and it will weigh just 166 grams. Pretty small dimensions if we consider that it houses a wide 6.3-inch display.

According to the image, the display will have a notch, a 19:9 aspect ratio and a Full HD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. Its primary camera will consist of a dual setup with 24 and 16 MP resolutions, while the front camera will have 24 and 2 MP resolutions and the support to artificial intelligence. There will also be the GPU Turbo technology on the Huawei Nova 3, which is able to increase performance by 60% while reducing consumption by up to 30%.

Huawei is expected to officially unveil the much-anticipated Nova 3 on July 18. The company could also take the wraps off the device in the Philippines on July 28. We say so because the company is advertising a new device as coming soon in the country. The giant ad poster was spotted recently in a shopping mall in the capital city – Manila.

While we can’t say for sure that the launch would be for the Nova 3, there are indications that it will be for the mid-range device that Huawei will be launching soon. The colour of the texts of the “coming soon” on the poster is similar to the colour theme Huawei used on the device’s official teaser poster.

The Huawei Nova 3 features a design similar to the Huawei P20 Lite but with improved specifications. The device is expected to pack a bigger 6.3-inch display with a resolution of 2340x1080pixels. The mobile phone is also expected to utilise a faster Kirin 710 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM, while it will get its juice from an ample 3,650mAh battery. The device will also feature dual cameras apiece both at the front and rear aspects. The dual cameras on the back will be a 16MP+24MP combo while the front-facing camera setup is expected to be a 24MP+2MP pair.

Huawei’s Nova series is the company’s range of affordable mid-range models. Huawei recently launched the Nova 3E which is actually the Huawei P20 Lite hitting some regions under a different moniker. Now, there are indications the Chinese market leader is about launching the Nova 3. The company has commenced the release of teasers about the device. A new Weibo post on the official Huawei Phone Weibo handle confirms the existence of the Nova 3 as the post was made using the device and the company has selected a new brand ambassador, likely for the Nova 3 launch. A leaked teaser poster which also emanated from Weibo has unmasked what is said to be the rear design of the Huawei Nova 3.

The Huawei Nova 3 leaked photo only shows the rear panel and the similarity between the design and that of the P20 Lite is glaring. Unfortunately, the front design wasn’t featured but we expect something similar, perhaps with a notch at the top of the display. Huawei might decide to ditch the notch on this one, though.

The specs of the device are still unknown but its predecessor, the Nova 3E comes with 5.8-inch full-screen design with a screen ratio of 19:9 and a resolution of 2280×1080 pixels. The device also weighs just 145g. We don’t expect the Nova 3 design to be any different. However, the device said to go by the codename “Paris” is expected to be fired up by a Kirin 710 chipset and will run Android 8.1 Orea with EMUI 8 custom skin. A couple of weeks ago, three Huawei devices were seen on TENAA. One of the three devices is said to be the Enjoy 8 whose full specs were released yesterday. Today, the full specs of the other two devices with model numbers FLA-AL00 and FLA-AL10 which are speculated to be the Huawei Nova 3 have surfaced online.

Both phones are nearly identical and differ only in memory and storage configuration.

They both have 5.93” screens with a 2160 x 1080 resolution and are powered by the Kirin 659 processor. (Can Huawei come up with another chip for goodness’ sake?).

The AL00 variant has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage while the AL10 model has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Both are said to support storage expansion by up to an additional 256GB.

For optics, Huawei is going with quad cameras on both models. 16MP + 2MP  sensors on the front and 13MP + 2MP sensors on the rear. There is also a rear mounted fingerprint scanner on each device.

Battery capacity is 3900mAh and there is Android 8.0 Oreo (with EMUI 8.0 overlay) pre-installed. Dimensions are 157.2 × 75.3 × 7.89 mm and weight is 170g.

Even though both variants are listed in different colors, they will both have the same color options (gold, blue, and black) when they launch.
