The Meizu 20 series, a lineup of smartphones from the Chinese manufacturer Meizu, has just been expanded with the introduction of the Meizu 20 Classic. This release follows the recent inclusion of a white version of the Meizu 20, boasting an impressive 12GB of RAM and a generous 256GB of storage, in their product range last month.

So what’s new with the Meizu 20 Classic that makes it stand out from the regular Meizu 20? Well, not much actually, the device comes with new colors and also adapts Meizu’s new logo. It is the same as a regular Meizu 20 on the specs front.

Meizu 20 Classic specs

The Meizu 20 Classic features a 6.55-inch FHD+ OLED display with a snappy 144Hz refresh rate for a clear and smooth experience. The device also boasts a 3D Sonic ultrasonic fingerprint sensor for quick and secure unlocking. It runs on the Octa-Core Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and offers storage options of 256GB or 512GB using UFS 4.0.

Out of the blue, Meizu is teasing a new smartphone in China. But it seems the device will not be an “all-new” model.

The teased product will be unveiled tomorrow itself (October 19). As the brand is using the Meizu 20 hashtag, this phone will likely be a new variant of its existing flagship.

Let’s go through the teaser posted by Meizu on Weibo.

The official teaser image for the upcoming Meizu smartphone only includes the brand’s logo. The picture (attached above) does not reveal anything.

However, the caption in the post reads “Classic design, newly presented”. So perhaps the new variant of Meizu 20 might have some classic design elements.

A couple of months back, the Meizu 20 was released in a special white color version commemorating the brand’s 20th anniversary. This variant of the handset has white-colored bezels on the front, like the company’s older smartphones.

We could not think of what the new version would look like. Thankfully, we need not to wait too long.

As far as specs are concerned, the Meizu 20 arrives with a 6.55-inch FHD+ 144Hz OLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, a 4,700mAh battery, and 67W wired charging support.

The device sports a 50MP (wide) + 16MP (ultrawide) + 5MP (macro) triple camera system, a 32MP front-facing camera, dual stereo speakers, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, and an IP54 rating.

Meizu 20 in white color now comes in 12 + 256GB variant

Back in August, Meizu celebrated its 20th anniversary. On this special occasion, the company released its latest Meizu 20 flagship phone in white color.

What makes this variant of the device special is that it is currently the only smartphone on the market with white-colored bezels. In a world of black bezels, this product is refreshing.

Upon launch, the special color of Meizu 20 was only available in 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 512GB memory configurations. Starting today, the handset also comes in a 12GB + 256GB version.

The original 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 512GB variants of Meizu 20 (white) are priced at ¥3,199 and ¥3,799, respectively. Whereas, the new 12GB + 256GB model carries a price tag of ¥3,399.

Till September 11, the mid and higher memory variants are discounted by ¥400. So their effective price comes down to ¥2,999 and ¥3,399, respectively. This makes the base variant costlier than the mid version.

Talking about specs, the Meizu 20 is built around a 6.55-inch FHD+ 144Hz OLED display. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and draws energy from a 4,700mAh battery.

It sports a triple camera system comprising a 50MP primary sensor, a 16MP ultra-wide unit, and a 5MP macro snapper. On the front, it has a 32MP shooter for selfies and video calls.

Other features include dual stereo speakers, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, 67W charging, and an IP54 rating.

Back in March, Meizu launched the Meizu 20 smartphone in China. The brand has periodically released new colorways of the device, like the Sunrise Purple which launched back in May. Now, celebrating its 20th anniversary, Meizu has launched a new Pure White color option for the phone with a limited edition gift box packaging.

The commemorative box set contains the smartphone and freebies like a white t-shirt and USB type-C wired earphones. It looks like the brand is planning to make it available globally as it has been teased on its Twitter account.

The Meizu 20 features a 6.5-inch FHD+ display with a 144Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the device comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, coupled with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. The smartphones also come with a vapor cooling chamber for heat dissipation.

Meizu made a comeback in the smartphone market with the new Meizu 20 series. The standard variant in the line debuted with a design reminiscent of the Galaxy S23 line, including three distinct camera rings. It was unveiled in Rose Gold, Yellow, Mint, and Gray color options. However, it appears that the company is ready to release a new shade of the handset with a unique twist. According to a tipster, Meizu may launch a White/Silver color option for the Meizu 20, with an entirely white front panel.

This new Meizu 20 stands out from the crowd

There was a time when smartphones commonly had thick bezels that matched the overall color scheme of the device. However, this trend slowly died down as bezels started to get thinner. Most modern phones now have black borders surrounding the display, regardless of the color of the back panel. Meizu apparently wants to contend this with a new color version of its Meizu 20 flagship.

As per the images shared by tipster Ice Universe, this new version of Meizu 20 (review) has white bezels around the front. While the images only show the front of the device, we can say it looks quite premium and stands out from the rest of the Android pack. Currently, there’s no official confirmation regarding the launch of this new color version.

We expect the handset to only undergo cosmetic changes and the specifications will likely remain the same. This means it will feature a 6.5-inch E6 AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. For photography, it may come equipped with a 50MP primary sensor, a 5MP macro unit, and a 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens. Powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, the device will be supported by a 4,700mAh battery with 67W fast charging.

Meizu 20 Full Review: It’s pretty, but only pretty

Today we’re reviewing this phone: the Meizu 20 Standard Edition.

Why Meizu didn’t launch the Meizu 19, they really haven’t announced any new phones for a whole year. We’ve been waiting for so long, the Meizu 20 should be a big surprise for us, right? You are right, it did give us a “big surprise”.

Display

Its biggest “surprise” is the display. Although this screen looks good, 144Hz, ultra-narrow bezel, straight screen with DC dimming, and super-fast, also very well-placed ultrasonic fingerprint recognition, this should be many people’s dream display. But there are a lot of details you can’t see that are not well done, such as clarity.

6.55-inch screen has only FHD+ resolution, its pixels are RGB-Delta Structure. This means you’ll feel more blurry than other phones when reading text. The maximum brightness is also not as high as other Samsung panel phones, and watching HDR videos is not stunning enough.

Its lower bezel is narrow enough, but you can still see that it’s a bit wider compared to the other three sides. It’s wider than the Xiaomi 13, and is the same width as the Redmi Note 12 Turbo. Simply put, the screen is blurry and not bright enough, and the lower bezel isn’t particularly narrow. If the Meizu 20 cost $300, I’d forgive it. But at $435 for a phone with this screen, I can’t accept it.

Benchmark & Gaming

Let me guess, if you want to buy the Meizu 20, it must be because it’s really cheap for a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phone. So is it worth buying it just for the performance? I don’t think it’s a good idea. Looking at various Benchmarks, the Meizu 20 is not that satisfying. Even if Antutu can run to a high score of 1.3 million, Geekbench shows that its Muti-Core is much worse than other phones, only about 8+ Gen 1 level. The CPU Throttling Test performance was also disappointing.

This is not a good sign. Let’s play the game. Although the frame rate curve is not as bad as the score and the temperature is not too high, it is not a very good performance either. The frame rate drops quickly during battles. So, if you want a cheap but powerful phone, why don’t you check out the Nubia Z50?

Camera

The Meizu 20’s camera performance is fine. The main camera is similar to the Xiaomi 13 during the daytime, except that the white balance is cool, otherwise, there is nothing wrong with it. The colors are more realistic, and the saturation is not too high when shooting flowers. The dynamic range is also better, so the contrast will look lower. It has a small problem at night, the highlighted area tends to be overexposed. The performance of the main camera is generally in line with my expectations for a phone at this price point.

The ultra-wide camera performs about as well as the main camera in daylight. Both phones have the Purple-Fringe issue, which isn’t a big deal considering the Meizu 20 is much cheaper than the Xiaomi 13. The biggest problem with the super wide camera is that the auto mode is often underexposed. As long as there is not enough light, the image will be very dark. Turning on night mode solves this problem, but the image quality is still not as good as the Xiaomi 13.

Although the Meizu 20’s third camera uses a 5 MP depth-of-field lens, it’s not completely useless either. In portrait mode, the recognition of objects will be a little more accurate. A glass table, for example, would be defocused by a phone without a depth-of-field camera, and the Meizu 20 would be able to get a clear shot of the table. It’s also easier to recognize glasses when taking portraits.

All in all, the Meizu 20’s camera system isn’t bad, but you wouldn’t buy it for the camera either.

The Meizu 20 supports up to 8k 30fps recording specs, and the ultra-wide camera also supports 4k resolution video recording. The image quality and stability are quite good. I think its biggest selling point is the front camera, which supports 4k 60fps and EIS, so I think this phone should be great for vlogging.

Design

I think its real “surprise” should be the design. The flat screen with a flat frame looks pretty good. This year’s standard version is no longer a small 6.2-inch phone, which means there’s one less brand in the world that makes small phones.

Seeing this lens module, I know what you’re thinking. And it’s not the first time they’ve done this. Meizu has been copying the design of Samsung’s flagship phones for a long time before. But Samsung’s phones are really beautiful, and Meizu at least didn’t copy the wrong phone. And it also has better build quality than any other phone in the sub-$500 range.

If you need a lower-priced S23, you can try the Meizu 20. To be clear, I’m not mocking it, this is a real compliment. The Samsung S series has what I consider to be the top CMF in Android phones, so looking like that isn’t a bad thing sometimes.

Battery & Charging

It only has 67w of charging power. After all, it’s the standard version, so we can’t ask for too much. Although it takes longer to fully charge than the Xiaomi 13, the battery capacity is also larger than the Xiaomi 13, so the speed is actually about the same.

Although there is no wireless charging, the good news is that the free charger is 80w and supports a lot of protocols. The phone also supports third-party chargers for fast charging, nice.

The battery life is similar to the Xiaomi 13, but I wish the Meizu 20, with its larger 200mAh battery, could last a little longer.

Flyme OS

In fact, the biggest advantage of Meizu is actually Flyme OS, which is one of the best experiences among many Chinese brands. It is very similar to MIUI in terms of its advantages, and the operation logic is very much in line with comfort.

For example, this floating window function works very well. Like launching Google Assistant, swipe up from the bottom corner to open the floating window of any app. Close the floating window also does not need to click any button, just click anywhere outside the floating window.

Mention Flyme, we have to talk about mBack. Touch the home button to go back, and press heavy to back to the desktop. 8 years ago they were the first to bring this operation logic from iOS to Android, and 8 years later you can still see this feature on Meizu 20. And gesture control is unaffected. For those of you who still wish your phone had a home button, except for that old iPhone SE 2022, only Meizu might be able to grant your wish. So if you like MIUI, then you’ll love Flyme, and if you hate MIUI, then Flyme shouldn’t be for you either.

A long time ago, I bought a Meizu phone. Even though it was not very powerful and the camera was not good. I had a small budget and liked Flyme, so I bought it anyway. I never expected that today’s Meizu 20 would be in the exact same situation as the phone I had.

I only recommend it to those who like Flyme and don’t have much budget for a flagship phone, otherwise you have too many other better options. Let’s give them some time, as long as they don’t die, maybe the next phone will be better.

A few days ago, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Meizu launched its latest flagship smartphones — Meizu 20 and Meizu 20 Pro. Now, starting today, both smartphones are available for purchase in the Chinese market.

The Meizu 20 starts at 2,999 yuan (~$435) for the base model with 12GB RAM and 128GB storage, while the 12GB + 256GB model is priced at 3,399 yuan (~$494). There’s also a 12GB + 512GB model which is available for 3,799 yuan (~$552).

On the other hand, the Meizu 20 Pro starts at 3,999 yuan (~$581) for the 12GB + 128GB model, and the 12GB + 256GB model costs 4,399 yuan (~$639). The top-end model in the lineup with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage is priced at 4,799 yuan (~$697).

The smartphones borrow design cues from Apple’s iPhone 14 and Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series. The regular and pro models are slightly different from each other. Meizu is no longer a known name in the smartphone industry. However, the company is still alive and has been releasing its annual flagships in its home market China, except last year.

The firm was acquired by Geely in 2022. Following the acquisition, the new owner confirmed that the brand will release a new premium smartphone lineup in 2023.

As promised, the company has scheduled a launch event for this week to introduce its latest flagship smartphones — Meizu 20 series.

For the unaware, the Meizu 18 series is the company’s last premium smartphone lineup. It was released in 2021. Since there wasn’t a successor in 2022, the brand has skipped the Meizu 19 moniker.

A total of four brands will debut new handsets. We are expecting a total of seven phones. Out of these, three of them are already official and are heading to an important market.

Meizu 20 Pro Camera Samples Emerge Ahead of Launch

Meizu is set to launch its new flagship smartphone series, the Meizu 20, on March 30 in China. Ahead of the launch, Senior Vice President Yang Xueliang has shared some camera samples from the Meizu 20 Pro on Weibo, giving us a glimpse of what the phone’s camera system is capable of.

Although the sample shots are not the best in terms of color accuracy, vibrancy, and detail, it’s worth noting that they were likely taken using pre-production software. Therefore, we should wait for official images from the retail units to make a proper judgment on the phone’s camera capabilities.

The Meizu 20 Pro is expected to come equipped with a 50MP main camera using Sony’s 1″ IMX989 sensor. While the camera samples so far have been underwhelming, it is worth noting that the unit used was probably running pre-production software. We will have to wait for official images from the retail units to get a better idea of the camera’s performance.

Aside from the camera, the Meizu 20 Pro’s appearance and configuration have been highly spoken of. The device will feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, LPDDR5X memory, and UFS 4.0 storage. Meizu has just revealed the launch date for its next generation of flagship Meizu 20 series smartphones. The company will be hosting an event later this month in China where it will also be unveiling the premium grade handset. So here are all the details.

The Chinese smartphone maker has announced that it will be hosting a new event with Lynk & Co on 30th March 2023 at the Shanghai Mercedes-Benz Cultural Center at 19:30 CST. During this conference, the company is set to launch Meizu 20 series of flagship phones, Flyme 10, and even Flyme Auto, which is an in vehicle user interface software. Alongside these new products, the event will also include announcements for new Lynk & Co products that will be showcased on the same stage.

At the moment, the Meizu 20 series of smartphones are now available for reservations on major e-commerce platforms and Meizy mall. For those unaware, the upcoming premium grade lineup consists of the Meizu 20 and 20 Pro models. These handsets range from budget to flagship segments. Around 11 brands are said to debut new phones in the coming days.

A few of these devices have already gone official. However, they will be making their way to more markets this month.

But most of these handsets are brand-new. Some of them are even the most-anticipated releases, such as the Oppo Find X6 series and Redmi Note 12 Turbo.

The Oppo Find N2 Flip was initially announced in China in December. It made its global debut in February. Now, the device is scheduled to release in India.

The Chinese version of iQOO Z7 is also expected this month. It will be a different product altogether powered by a Snapdragon 782G chipset. It will be accompanied by iQOO Zx featuring a Snapdragon 695 SoC.

Vivo Y11 (2023)

The Vivo Y11 (2023) is tipped to launch in China by the end of March. The smartphone is also said to debut in global markets in April.

It is tipped to come with a 6.67-inch 120Hz OLED display, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, a 50MP + 8MP + 2MP triple camera system, a 5,000mAh battery, 67W charging support, and MIUI 14 based on Android 13.

On the other hand, the Redmi Note 12 4G will be identical to the 5G variant, except for the chipset, It will be powered by an overclocked Snapdragon 680 SoC instead of a Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chip. This phone could go official this month or next.

Redmi A2 and Redmi A2 Plus

Xiaomi might launch Redmi A2 and Redmi A2 Plus by the end of March. The successors of Redmi A1 and Redmi A1 Plus are tipped to come with the almost same set of features.

Meizu, a Chinese technology brand, is working on its upcoming Meizu 20 smartphone and we might get to hear about its official launch soon. The devices are expected to launch somewhere later this month. Anyway, an official from the brand has now shared the renders of the “Yellow” colour variant of the device. The CFO of Meizu China has shared a render of the upcoming Meizu 20 smartphone on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo. The device can be seen in the “Yellow” colour variant and the brand calls it “Yuedong Yellow.” The device looks quite refreshing and attractive, especially in this colour variant. Meizu is gearing up to launch its next-generation flagship smartphones, Meizu 20 series in its home country, and the company recently announced that it would open pre-booking for the devices for just 1 yuan in China.

Now, the company has yet again teased the upcoming Meizu 20 lineup with a poster and revealed some of the key details about the focus areas for the smartphones.

In the teaser poster, the company claims that it has invested more than 100 million yuan in the Meizu 20 series to make the device fast, stable, and optimized. It further adds that the optimization and the system stability have increased by 10 times in this upcoming smartphone.

According to the Chinese smartphone maker, prospective buyers that book the phone in advance will also receive an extended warranty period for their new Meizu 20 series smartphone. The brand plans on offering an impressive 36 month long warranty for buyers that book the smartphones right now. This 3 year long warranty will be available by making a booking/reservation that costs just 1 Yuan (0.15 US Dollars). In other words, the value offered from the booking cost is quite high.

Based on what we know so far, the brand is planning on keeping the booking period open starting from today (21st Feb 2023) to the 14th of March 2023. So for those interested, you can head to major e-commerce platforms in China like JD.com, Tmall, and others. With a 3 year long warranty period, this basically means that the company is providing warranty for the whole life cycle of this smartphone.

Around this 36 months warranty, the company is also offering its users an improved and expansive customer service since 2022. For those unaware, Meizu is a flagship grade handset that will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Recently, Meizu has started teasing the new smartphones on social media, revealing information in bits and pieces. So far, it has been confirmed that upcoming flagships will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor under the hood. In the latest development, the OEM has confirmed the Meizu 20 series handsets will be equipped with an IR Blaster. Here are the details.

According to the latest teaser posted by the brand, the Meizu 20 series, which should include Meizu 20 and Meizu 20 Pro, will come with an IR Blaster. For the unaware, an IR blaster (Infrared Blaster) allows a smartphone to function as a remote control for various electronic devices, such as televisions, air conditioners, and set-top boxes. It lets users control these devices using their phones instead of a separate remote control.

This is the first time Meizu will be using this technology on its smartphones. As you may be aware, Xiaomi smartphones are often equipped with an IR blaster. In the past, Samsung also used to include this convenient sensor in their phones. However, this is no longer the case.

Reports have revealed that Meizu 20 series will run a new Flyme 10 OS and pack a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. It is reported to adopt a variable flat display (likely a 2K) with a new ultrasonic fingerprint 2.0 that supports 0.075 seconds of fast wet hand unlocking. Meizu 20 Phone Case Leaks Online Revealing Design

Meizu has barely launched any smartphones lately. In fact, the last flagship we saw from the brand was way back in 2019, the device was called Meizu 19. The Chinese company is now planning to return to the market with the new Meizu 20 series. The lineup is said to include the vanilla Meizu 20 and a higher-end Meizu 20 Pro. Today, the vanilla model’s protective case has appeared online, revealing its design. Let’s have a look.

A Pandaer-branded phone case has been doing rounds on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. The case has apparently been designed for the upcoming Meizu 20 and it even matches the phone’s design as revealed through patent images. Also, Pandaer is Meizu’s sub-brand which focuses on accessories and other gadgets.

The case can be seen with flat sides and a large vertical opening on the back for the camera module. On the right edge, there are the power and volume buttons. The Meizu 20 is expected to have 4 circular rings on the back housing at least 3 cameras. The display of the device will be equipped with a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera.

Meizu 20 (M381Q) and Meizu 20 Pro (M391Q) have recently bagged radio approval, and it has been revealed that the pro model will support UWB’s ultra-wideband function.

In addition, the Meizu 20’s battery and charging capacity has been revealed through national quality certification. The device could come with a 4600mAh battery and support 80W fast charging.

Both smartphones are expected to arrive with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. While there’s no official confirmation yet, rumors suggest the Meizu 20 could launch sometime in March. We’ll keep you posted.

Meizu 20 Pro Leaked Live Image Reveals Design

Meizu is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer that has been in the business for quite some time but isn’t as popular as other firms (Xiaomi, OPPO, just to name a few) from the country. Also, it has been a long time since we saw a Meizu flagship— the last one was released way back in 2019. That’s about to change as the company is now gearing up to bring the Meizu 20 smartphone. There may also be a Pro model, at least that’s what a new leaked image suggests.

A tipster has shared a hands-on image of the alleged Meizu 20 Pro on Weibo. The image shows the smartphone with a curved back and an interesting camera module. There are at least three camera sensors and one mysterious black bar. We can’t help but notice that the camera arrangement looks like a disapproval emoticon (:|).

The text on the camera island suggests the Meizu 20 Pro uses a 1-inch 50MP Sony sensor. This is likely the Sony IMX989 sensor found on the Xiaomi 12S Ultra and Xiaomi 12 Pro. We are not sure what’s the purpose of the black bar on the module. It could feature some sort of sensor or maybe it’s there due to aesthetic reasons.

Details about the Meizu 20 series smartphones as pretty scarce at the moment. Previously, patent images of the vanilla model surfaced online, revealing a Galaxy S23-like design with an additional ring on the back. In addition, a Geekbench listing revealed the Meizu 20 will be equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC under the hood. The Pro model could also feature the same chipset.

Meizu 20 Series Likely to Support 80W Charging

Meizu is reportedly working on the Meizu 20 and Meizu 20 Pro smartphones. Recently, the Meizu 20 was spotted on the Geekbench benchmarking platform with the new Snapdragon 8-series chipset. Now, a new Meizu charger that is supposedly designed for the upcoming Meizu 20 lineup has received certification from the 3C authority of China.

As can be seen in the screenshot, the new charger that is likely to accompany the Meizu 20 series has a UP2040 model number. The charger supports up to 80W fast charging. He added, “There is also a new protocol for wireless charging (machine translation).” To recall, the Meizu 18 Pro, which debuted in 2021, supported 40W wireless charging. Hence, there is a possibility that the Meizu 20 Pro may arrive with support for faster 50W wireless charging.

Previous reports have claimed that the Meizu 20 Pro will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. While not a well-known name in the global market, Meizu is a popular smartphone brand in the domestic Chinese market. The brand recently announced that it is working on a new flagship smartphone which will be powered by the newly unveiled Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Information has been scarce on the upcoming device, however, a new report brings some key details to light.

Meizu 18 Pro

The report comes from PriceBaba citing tipster Paras Guglani as the source. While there are rumors that the upcoming series will be called the Meizu 19 series, the firmware data reveals that the Meizu phones with model numbers M381Q and M391Q will have the Meizu 20 and the Meizu 20 Pro marketing names, respectively. These are the upcoming flagships from the brand.

The report also reveals that the Pro model will be available in two variants: 8 GB of RAM with 256 GB of storage and 12 GB of RAM with 512 GB of storage. Other than that, a total of three color options will be available to choose from with the upcoming Meizu 20 Pro. The configurations of the vanilla model are not known at this time. However, it is confirmed that it will also feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset is based on TSMC’s 4nm node and comes with a new 1+2+2+3 architecture. It includes a 3.2GHz Kryo super core based on Cortex-X3, four 2.8GHz performance cores (2×Cortex A715+ 2×Cortex A710), and three 2.0GHz Cortex-A510 energy efficiency cores.

Comparing the new chipset to the original Snapdragon 8 mobile platform, Qualcomm claims it offers considerable improvements. The Qualcomm Kryo CPU’s energy efficiency has improved by 40%, while the performance of the 8 Gen 2’s enhanced Qualcomm Adreno GPU has increased by 25%.
