This led to significantly different experiences on different smartphones running the same OS underneath.

Google wasn’t happy with such variance in the Android experience. The company had an ideal view of how the operating system should work on an Android phone but it couldn’t force companies to ditch their customizations. This eventually led to the birth of the Google Nexus series, one of the most sought out lineup by Android enthusiasts across the globe. So if you have been following the Android landscape ever since its inception, it’s highly likely that you’ve heard or seen the first-ever smartphone in the Google Nexus lineup, the HTC Google Nexus One.

HTC was a major smartphone maker back then and it wasn’t a surprise that the search engine giant decided to partner with them to make its first smartphone. The hardware partners have changed a few times since Nexus’ inception, but one thing was common among all partners – they were given freedom to design these Nexus phones. But the software would be controlled by Google and it would become the base of how a perfect Android phone ran on the latest version of the OS. Being the first-ever Nexus smartphone, the HTC Nexus One has a special place in our hearts. So let’s take a closer look at what it had to offer back in 2010.

The HTC Nexus One had a typical HTC design. The back was slightly curved and the overall design was similar to the company’s Desire model. There were actually two versions of the Nexus One back in 2010. The first units rolled out with a Pentine AMOLED display but it would later be replaced by a Super LCD panel which reportedly offered better power efficiency and color accuracy.

The front had a tiny 3.7-inch display of 800 x 480 pixels. This was one of the better displays back in 2010. There were four capacitive buttons, which was typical of the Nexus lineup. But there was a trackball below these capacitive buttons which made the phone unique. It was a lot similar to Blackberry devices and offered easy navigation across the OS. Interestingly, this trackball also doubled down as a notification light, which looked pretty cool.

Editor’s Pick: Google introduced Shoelace; a new social network to tie people together

As for the specs, the Nexus One was no slouch. It came with the Snapdragon S1 single-core 1GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM. No, this is not a mistake. The phone had just 512MB of storage, which forced the company to add a dedicated MicroSD slot on board. On the back there was a decent 5MP camera with autofocus and LED flash. The battery was average for its time at 1400mAh. Notably, it was removable, unlike Nexus devices that were launched later on. 2010 wasn’t exactly the selfie age, so Google and HTC decided not to add a front camera.

Previous Throwback: We Revisit the World’s First Camera Phone & Its Selfie Camera

The real highlight of the Nexus lineup has always been its software and the Nexus One was no exception. The phone came with Android 2.1 Eclair out of the box with voice-guided navigation and voice to text transcription. Imagine how far we’ve come in the last 9 years. Everything is voice-based now, with Google Assitant and Alexa taking over our daily lives. The phone also brought 3D icons and live wallpaper which looked pretty cool for its time. Given that this was a Google-backed device, the Nexus One received a number of major updates. The phone got Android 2.2 Froyo and also Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread. It could have been updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich too, if not for its super-old hardware platform.

With these specs and software, the Nexus One would have sold pretty well right? Unfortunately, the phone didn’t fare so well in terms of sale.

Nevertheless, the Nexus One will always have a very special place in our hearts. It was the first-ever Google phone and is the reason why the Pixel lineup exist today!

So did you ever use the Nexus One? What are your thoughts?

Already, the new Android operating system has been rolled out to most Pixel and Nexus smartphones which are the only models with the new OS for now. Turns out that Android Oreo isn’t yet as sweet as the chocolate biscuit it was named after as it still has some bugs in it. The latest one was reported by a number of users on the Google Product Forums and what it does is that it disables all mobile data usage prematurely on some carriers around the world.

The bug will only be noticed in situations where the carriers provide their customers with unlimited access to certain apps like WhatsApp and a number of other apps. In such situations, even though you have used up all of your mobile data, you should still be able to use these apps. But users complain that as soon as they exhaust their data, mobile data is turned off completely. That is apparently because Android Oreo wasn’t built to respond to such sort of situation.

Read Also: Sony Showcases The Xperia XZ1 & XZ1 Compact Rocking SD 835 & Android Oreo

More interesting are the reports by some Pixel devices’ users that their mobile data gets turned off even when they are yet to use up all their allotted data. Google has responded that they are aware of the issues. A Pixel Community Manager disclosed that the team (of engineers) has been looking into the issue of getting the “mobile data has run out” notification. It is taken as a high priority and the team is working towards a fix. A fix will likely come as a software update when it is ready.

Starting with the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, Google has taken the camera performance on their devices very serious. So I believe they are teasing us with pictures of the new phones. You can have a look at some of the pictures below, but note that they are not full-sized images.

The 2016 Nexus codenamed Sailfish had earlier on been spotted in a GFXBench listing that gave out some of the key specs of the smartphone. Now, one of the two Nexus smartphones (most likely HTC Nexus) may just have been leaked in a spy shot.

The image said to be that of the higher end Nexus smartphone, was leaked by a Twitter user that goes by the username “Nexus”. Quite curiously the account seem to have been opened just this August and has only two tweets both relating to the Nexus devices.

The first of the two tweets describes the 2016 HTC Nexus as looking like “a cross between the Nexus 4 & the iPhone with glass and fingerprint scanner on the back”. The comparison seems to be referring to the 4-inch iPhone SE or any of the 4-inch iPhones and the Nexus 4 developed by Google and LG back in 2012.

From the leaked spy shot, the edge of the Nexus device appears to be made out of plastic, while the rear is covered with glass. There is also an audio jack at the top which is in contrast with what is expected on the iPhone 7. A fingerprint sensor can also be spotted at the back, which also features a small camera with LED flash.

Read More: Nexus Marlin & Sailfish to likely use Snapdragon 821 processor

The next tweet actually reveals that the image render is that of the premium model of the 2016 HTC Nexus smartphones which should be the one codenamed Marlin and both are said to be under 5.5-inches in screen sizes, while the lower end flagship will be made of glossy plastic.

The image isn’t very clear and the tipster is relatively unknown, with no previous track record, so we might as well take this with a pinch of salt while we wait for more details to emerge.

Don’t get it twisted, the image wasn’t released by Google or its manufacturing partner HTC but a recreation by the guys at Android police who were able to do that based on “information from a reliable source” about the devices codenamed Marlin and Sailfish.

The image, which shows both the front and back views, is said to represent both Nexus Marlin and Sailfish which they believe would only be different in sizes but sport the same design. The image also depicts the Nexus phones as taking on a cleaner design language for 2016, according to the information they’ve received from the source.

We could have thrown this one into the trash as a baseless rumor, if not for the fact that they were confident enough to give the rumor a confidence level of 8 out of 10. That’s an indication that either we are looking at an actual image leaked from Nexus or sure the source is very reliable. But then it’s just a sole source we talking about here.

Well then, we should add also that you shouldn’t expect the Nexus phones to look exactly like the ones in the image since they are someone’s recreation and not the real deal. Some details may not be accurate, like the “G” logo on the back of the device may not be part of the final design. Another thing is the recreation wasn’t done with the actual dimensions and measurements of the phones in sight so it may be mighty different when the devices pop up.

However, few details could be gathered from the image render and one of them is that there’ll be no camera hump on the devices. Also, both Nexus Marlin and Sailfish phones are coming with aluminum body and not polycarbonate. There’s a secondary glossy plastic layer, which might be made of glass though, on the back of the phones which gives the back a cool two-tone look. The rear edges are gently curved and there’s the fingerprint scanner sitting in its usual Nexus position.

Although the image is that of a dark gray / black colored device (which could be one of the color variants available), Android Police believes the “flagship” advertised color will be a standard aluminum finish with a white face. They also believe Google is considering what they called an “electric blue” version of the dual Nexus devices (white face, but blue glossy rear pane) but that’s not for sure.

From the image render also, the design of the phones bears basically no resemblance to the HTC 10, and also relatively little resemblance to the current Nexus phones.

Coming to the front view, a single earpiece speaker, front-facing selfie shooter, a small sensor cluster are all visible. While on the back, there are some antenna bands on the bottom running horizontally and on the top running vertically and off the center.

Three tiny holes can be spotted next to the camera whose purpose are not known but could relate to the camera (auto-focus and perhaps a secondary sensor of some kind) and perhaps one of them could be a secondary microphone.

That’s all we’ve got for now, except if you’re unaware of a previous rumor about the Nexus Marlin and Sailfish devices which are said to be getting a navbar do-over such that the software home button will be of solid white color with 4-color “flower” design. But it remains unclear at this time if that’s also true.

Google has always partnered up with OEMs to release Nexus-branded smartphones in the market. While the Nexus lineup is built with inputs from Google, it looks like the Mountain View giant is now working on its own smartphone for greater control.

According to a new report, Google seems to be preparing its own smartphone to take on the Apple iPhone in the market. It is said that “Google wants more control over design, manufacturing, and software”. Up till now, the company’s reach has been limited to software, but if this turns out to be true, Google soon could make its entry into the smartphone hardware. While this won’t be the company’s first hardware product (remember Google Pixel C?), it will be the first self-made smartphone.

This move by the company could be a result of the fragmentation of the Android platform. There are millions of smartphones in the market today that’s based on Google’s Android OS, however, most of them feature a tweaked version by their respective manufacturer. This has adversely affected the consistency of the software on different models as well as the adoption rate of the new versions of Android.

With Google’s self-made smartphone, the company will have greater control over the software as well as the hardware, much like the Apple iPhone. This would be the best move to take on the iPhone models which are usually considered more stable and premium than other Android handsets.

Previously, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai had hinted that the company plans to add some new features to the Android Nexus lineup. We could see such special features on the new Google smartphone as well.

The report states that this Google made phone could release by the end of this year, which means we won’t have to wait for too long to meet this iPhone killer.

So, what do you think about a Google-made Android flagship?

New info tells us that the device named Marlin will be featuring a Snapdragon 821 processor which is basically an upgraded version of the SD820 SoC.

The new snapdragon processor is expected to launch alongside the Snapdragon 823 which is expected to show up in the new galaxy note. There’s no other news with respect to the two nexus devices but we expect more details when we enter into the third quarter.

Ponder on this: If HTC is indeed making two Nexus devices this year and Huawei is truly getting their Nexus contract renewed, will one of the devices be a tablet? Seeing as the Nexus 9 was launched 2 years ago and will no longer receive support after October 2016, it is safe to hope for a new tablet. We should definitely throw a party if we have 3 nexus devices this year.

Whilst this will probably appear on Nexus based Roms first, it is worth noting that with Android M google are really looking to up security levels.

The OS will probably display one of the following warning messages to let you know that there could be a problem with your operating system.

This warning lets you know that your device has a different operating system than the one that originally came on your device, depending on whether you changed the OS (If you aren’t sure, you probably didn’t), if you choose to instal a different Rom you can continue to use your device with that operating system.

If however you did not install the different OS you can still continue to use it but google advise that you may have a better experience with the original OS, they also advise that you can contact the device manufacturers support centre for help restoring to the original OS.

This warning lets you know that your device is in an “unlocked” state, meaning that your operating system can’t be checked to make sure that it’s safe to use.

Depending on whether you changed the OS (If you aren’t sure, you probably didn’t), if you choose to instal a different Rom you can continue to use your device with that operating system.

If you unlocked your boot loader you can continue to use your device, however, you acknowledge that your device may be exposed to security risks.

Google recommend that if you aren’t making changes to the OS regularly, to improve security you should lock the device by running fastboot lock.

This warning lets you know that the operating system on your device has been changed or corrupted and is not safe to use, the device may not work properly and could expose your data to corruption and security risks.

Depending on whether you changed the OS (If you aren’t sure, you probably didn’t), if you choose to instal a different Rom you can continue to use your device, however, you acknowledge that your device may be exposed to security risks.

If you did not change the OS you should not use the device in its current state, Google advise that you should contact the device manufacturers support centre for help restoring to the original OS.

If you choose to ignore the warning messages should go away on their own after about 10 seconds and your device will continue starting up, however if you still see the warning message, you can choose to continue starting up your device by pressing the power button once.

If you’re not comfortable continuing to use the device, you can turn it off by pressing and holding the power button until your device turns off. You can contact the device’s manufacturer for help restoring the original operating system.

What do you think, are you a constant Rom swapper? or do you prefer to stick with original manufacturer roms? is the added security that this may bring worth the annoyance at boot up? or will you be looking for a rom and boot loader for your phone that has been coded to work around this?

Personally I like to try out new roms fairly often and have been impressed with the way rom devs over at XDA have managed to work around Samsungs Knox to enable custom Roms with out flagging up on boot, lets see how they get on with this should it become mainstream with Android M.

Please leave comments below

It looks like one of the Nexus devices just made an entry in the AnTuTu benchmarking site, blowing everyone’s mind with a score of more than 85000!

If you remember, the Samsung Exynos 7420 chipset is currently on top of AnTuTu with 65000+ points. However, with a score of over 85,000 this Nexus device beats Samsung’s chip by over 20,000 points.

This brings us to the big question, what exactly is running inside this Nexus device? Well, AntuTu 5 doesn’t reveal much about the specs inside the device, but the phone probably will come with the new Snapdragon 820 chip from Qualcomm. While the score is still too good to be true, considering Qualcomm’s desperate need for a comeback with 820, the company could have boosted its performance to a whole new level.

What we do know is that the phone will be called as the Nexus 5 (2015) model, which probably means that LG is not sticking with the incremental naming policy. Also, this may also give us a clue about the screen size, as you can expect it to be around 5-inches (5.2-inch would be just perfect). The Nexus 6 came with a monstrous 5.9-inch display, but it was too big to handle. So, this could actually be a good move. The resolution is surprisingly just FHD, which would be a downgrade from the QHD display on the Nexus 6.

Anyways, if the performance of Snapdragon 820 is really this good, we would like to know whether it overheats like the current generation 810. But we hope Qualcomm will have learnt its lesson by now.

Usually, Google announces its Nexus devices in fourth quarter of the year and we expect the company to continue the tradition this year too. By then, there could be a couple of Snapdragon 820 powered smartphones like Xiaomi Mi5 in the market. So, things could get interesting pretty soon!

They started off by producing some budget devices, but recent years showed that the company is serious about the high-end segment too. To prove that the Huawei is working hard on its premium design (Mate and P series), putting a lot of effort on their home-brewed chips and so on.

What is more, there have been a lot of talks regarding possible Google’s new partner to produce the new Nexus device. Some new rumours suggests that the Huawei will indeed manufacture the new Nexus smartphone. Moreover, the device is said to be developed from the upcoming Huawei Mate 8 prototype. In addition, it is said that the device will come out this fall.

As far as design goes, we can expect some premium build quality, which should involve materials like metal or glass.

As far as the specs go, the new Nexus smartphone is said to have a 2k 5.7-inch screen and powered by Snapdragon 810 processor. However, chip choice is not clear since the latter Snapdragon chip is surrounded by numerous claims of overheating. Moreover, the Huawei is putting a lot of effort on developing their own Kirin chips, so there a possibility to see this processor in the device as well.

We think that it is a great opportunity for the Chinese giant Huawei to produce the next Nexus device as it may get more recognition in the international smartphone world.

The transition to a pricier range of Nexus devices have lead to lower sales for the line this quarter. For the first half of 2014, Google was still offering the economically-priced Nexus 5 smartphone at the starting price of $349 and the similarly-affordable Nexus 7 tablet at $229. This quarter, Google is offering their latest devices, the Nexus 6 smartphone and Nexus 9 tablet at $649 and $399 respectively. The law of supply and demand would dictate that people would be unlikely to accept the price hike, and that’s taking into consideration even the high popularity of these devices running stock Android.

This could be stemming from a few possible reasons: The specifications offered for the Nexus 6 and 9 devices could simply be an insufficient upgrade for some to justify the price increase, which is understandable. Take the Nexus 6, for instance. Some might find the 6 inch display of the Nexus 6 and thus larger physical size to be unfeasible for practical daily usage in a smartphone. The new 64 bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor isn’t going to be much of a difference in real-world scenarios for some mainstream users, especially given that the next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 is already making headway. Also, It doesn’t help public perception much that the price hike is almost up to 50% more from last year’s huge-selling Nexus 5 to the latest Nexus 6.

On the Tablet side, the increase of price would not be such a major factor, but, instead, the fact that people do not upgrade their tablets as often as they do phones. Apple clearly dominates the Tablet market, but even the Cupertino giant is experiencing a sales slump with their iPads. Tablets in general would surely be no more influential than Smartphones in this recent swing towards lower Nexus device sales for Google. Neither would the Nexus Player, considered by many to be a minor product in the line.

While it is easy to see how insignificant overall Nexus sales would factor into the bigger picture at Google, the search giant actually stands to gain a few positives moving forward.

Google knows their limits a little better now

No other time has Google ever got all of the five major U.S carriers, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular in on the Nexus ‘action’, but Google accomplished it with the Nexus 6 for the first time. The closest Google has gone is with Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus, on which AT&T and Verizon were the only collaborators. Various other Carriers have offered certain Nexus phones from time-to-time, but Google now has the experience of offering a truly high-end flagship phone with every major carrier in the U.S. This gives Google invaluable experience and knowledge when it comes to pricing future Nexus Phones, no matter what distribution method it chooses in the future.

They have finally reached the pinnacle of screen sizes

With an uncommon screen of 6 inches, the Nexus 6 breaks new ground for an Android phone. Some have rejected the Nexus 6 on size alone, but the essential point to take away would be that Google pushed the boundaries of what is physically feasible for phone sizes. 6 inches may very well be the utmost limit when it comes to smartphones, and we would know that to be true simply because Google has attempted it and lived to tell the story. When it comes down, consumers can buy a 6 inch phone because Google has made the choice possible.

Google knows first-hand what it means to scale with phone manufacturers now

Google actually produced the Nexus 6 with Motorola still under their direct charge. They already know the struggles of domestic manufacturing, despite weak sales of the Moto X with its 2013 and 2014 editions, but they will forever have the experience of building smartphones under the belt. One little point in all of the mix is how Google has gained its fair share of experience producing a Motorola-branded Nexus as well. Google should have the best foot moving forward with future partnerships when it comes to providing inputs on the components that would yield the best balance of power and cost in future Nexus devices.

Conclusion:

With reports that LG would be producing the next Nexus Smartphone, it is clear the product line is far from dead. If anything, coming from the recent slump in sales for Nexus devices, a wiser, stronger Google would emerge and potentially be unstoppable for its next iteration of the Android operating system, and the devices that would be birthed along with it.

Now, the same source from Weibo reveals that there will be two different Nexus devices this year. One will be made by the chosen Chinese company and the other will be made by LG. If this is the case, then its very likely that the one from the Chinese company could be the affordable variant of the phone. On the other hand, the LG made Nexus could be like this year’s Nexus 6, loaded with the best tech specs in the market but at a very high price. So, finally, Nexus fans may get two phone choices in 2015.

Another interesting point revealed by the source is the processor that will be used by the OEM inside the new Nexus device. The source said that it didn’t know whether the manufacturer would use its own SoC or go with a Qualcomm one on the next Nexus.

Buy Huawei smartphones from the best china online stores.

While it doesn’t reveal the name of the OEM, this gives us a very good idea as to which OEM could be the next Nexus maker. Huawei has its own Hisilcon Kirin processor lineup, which the company has been using in its phones for quite some time now. So, we believe, Huawei could be responsible for manufacturing one of the Nexus phones this year.

If this turns out to be true, it won’t really be surprising given that the company has proved its expertise in the field by releasing phones like the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 and even the affordable Honor 6 Plus with dual cameras. So, if the next Nexus has to be powerful and good looking, Huawei could turn out to be a good option.

Anyways, remember that this not official news. Neither Google or any Chinese OEM has confirmed plans for a Nexus release this year, so make sure you take this news with a pinch of salt.

If Google is indeed considering a Chinese OEM, which one do you think would be perfect for making the next Nexus device?

They have evolved to manufacture products that are in line with the international companies. As a result, we have seen companies like Xiaomi, Huawei and even OnePlus grow pretty quickly.

The latest Nexus smartphone was from the former Google company, Motorola. Even the Nexus 9 tablet was manufactured by HTC, taking over the reins from ASUS, who manufactured the older Nexus 7 model. Now, it looks like Google could go with a new company again, this time a Chinese manufacturer for its next Nexus.

The news comes via Weibo which states that Google has gone with a Chinese phone maker for the release of a new Nexus device for the second half of this year. While the source fails to reveal the name of the company, we do have a few guesses, given that right now there are many good Chinese companies in the market.

Lenovo, Xiaomi, Huawei and even ZTE could be the next OEM to partner with Google. Lenovo’s recent acquisition of Motorola gives it an edge and hence, there’s a very good chance that the source is hinting at this company. However, without Motorola, Lenovo has very little expertise in the smartphone segment and its smartphones aren’t as popular as the ones from Xiaomi or even Huawei.

Anyways, if this is indeed true, then we will definitely hear more about the company in the coming months. The source slates a announcement in the second half of the year, which means there’s still plenty of time.

However, till that time, unless we hear an official announcement from the company or its officials, we can’t really confirm the news. We will be keeping a close eye on Weibo for any further updates.

Although Google is said to abandom Nexus series, there is new product to come out this year. Now, 2 developers from Germany found Nexus 6 and Nexus 8 words in Chromium’s source code, which means Nexus series will last at least 1 generation.

In fact, Source code from Chromium will usually leak some newest information about Google’s recent device and system, like the “Flounder “ of Nexus’s developing code.

Beside this, although it is not known what feature will Nexus 6 and Nexus 8 to be, the outside world is expecting the Nexus 6 will be produced by LG, and it is the mini edition of LG G3. Some rumors reckon the Nexus 6 will reduce the screen size to 5.2 inch, but it is still unknown wheter it supports 2K resolution. Besides, rumors indicate Google is communicating with some Asian fingerprint identification sensor provider, so the Nexus6 may have that function.

Worthy mentioned, according to “Taiwan economic daily”, Google’s Nexus 6 will use MTK’s 64-bit processor, detailed type is still unknown, which may be 1.5 GHz quad core MT6732 or 2.0GHz 8 core MT6752. It is predicted Google will choose one from these 2 and use it on the Nexus 6.

However, foreign website Android Geeks predict Google’s Nexus 6 will carry Krait 450 structured Quadcomm Snapdragon 805 quad core processor, and Adreno 420 graphics processor and 3GB RAM with 16/32GB storage space. The camera is still unknown.

Predicted to be launched in Autumu

Because Nexus series will build newest Android system, the Google I/O developers conference that open at 25th June is considered the launch time of the phone. However, depended on the exposure rate of Nexus 6, it is less possible to be release next month, and Google’s Nexus devices are always launch at autumn, it is predicted the Nexus 6 will follow the trend.

Claimed by Taiwanese media “electronic tmies”, Google choose to cooperate with HTC, will launch newest 8 inch tablet. If it is true, that means HTC will cooperate with Nexus series products again after 4years.

The question at hand was will Google be working towards an affordable Nexus device-the one that would replace the chip manufactured by Qualcomm to the one made by MediaTek. The answer is here-The chip is with the capability of sporting a 64-bit architecture with 4 or 8 cores.

After having disclosed the 64 bit product a few months ago, they appear to be ready for prime time. As stated in Taiwan’s Economic Daily, the makers of the chip are ecstatic with the deal and are positive that this could be their key to reach out to new vendors who would be instrumental in launching the devise in the Western World. In the interim, it is truly remarkable to have a chip housed inside a Nexus device.

Currently there aren’ t many handset manufacturers that are betting on MediaTek-made gear-which includes the likes of Sony and HTC. If used at all, it is only their low cost machines in the world’s emerging markets that use these products.

MediaTek may find its way into the West in a colossal way.

The forthcoming nexus phone is reported to be prices at 100 USD. The question however remains is that with it being at this price point ,will it be only the rapidly growing economies that will be its market or will it have a global availability. The test of time shall reveal if this low cost nexus will aid Google in developing its reach among the price conscious consumers or not.

Google Nexus phone is nominally GOOGLE direct descendant of products, but products from the different manufacturer , HTC, Samsung, Motorola, LG and Asus and other well-known hardware manufacturers are will participate in this new opportunities.

If the rumors are true , then enter the supply chain in GOOGLE MediaTek is not just driven by shipments , the greater significance lies for their own brand image advertising, although this is just a guess by the price for the entry-level smartphone market , the overall Specifications should not be too high , but certainly worth the wait GOOGLE manufacturers to provide the latest systems and workmanship .

Google certainly seems to informed sources have confirmed that the new machine will be used MTK chips , perhaps the next will see more information.
