Samsung and Google announced they’re bringing Google Photos to Samsung TVs. Users will be able to view their photo libraries on TV screens starting in early 2026.

Setup and Access

Sign in with your Google Account on your Samsung TV and your photos appear automatically. No extra steps needed. Photos sync from your phone and display in full screen format. The feature works with Samsung’s Vision AI Companion (VAC) and shows up in Daily+ and Daily Board throughout the day.

Three New Features

Memories launches exclusively on Samsung TVs in early 2026. Samsung gets six months of exclusivity before the feature goes to other platforms. It shows curated stories grouped by people, locations, and key moments. This is the first time this Google Photos feature works on TVs.

Create with AI comes later in 2026. It uses Nano Banana, Google DeepMind’s image generation and editing model. You get themed templates for photo transformations. Remix lets you change the art style of images. Photo to Video turns still photos into short video clips.

Personalized Results also arrives later in 2026. It creates slideshows based on topics or what’s in your memories. Search for things like ocean, hiking, or Paris, and related photos play as a slideshow.

What the Companies Said

Kevin Lee, Executive Vice President of Samsung’s Visual Display Business Customer Experience Team, said the partnership makes TV viewing more personal by showing photo stories in your living room.

Shimrit Ben-Yair, Vice President of Google Photos and Google One, said Google Photos helps organize memories and the Samsung TV integration lets people enjoy photos on bigger screens.

Memories launches first in early 2026. The AI creation tools and personalized slideshows come later that year. Samsung TVs will work as photo galleries where you can browse collections, use AI to edit photos, and watch memories with family. Google Photos handles the organization while Samsung provides the display and AI features.

Samsung has just launched a new premium TV model from its 2023 range of OLED TVs. It is the new 83-inch Class OLED TV, which arrives as the top-end and largest variant from its new OLED TV lineup.

Samsung 83-inch Class OLED TV Specifications

For those unaware, the South Korean tech giant had previously announced the S90C and S95C OLED TVs earlier this year. Now, the S90C model is being sold in a new 83-inch variant that retains the QD-OLED panel technology of its smaller siblings. The screen offers a 144Hz refresh rate, 4K resolution, AI-powered HDR, Dolby Atmos, and more. Since the new model is not a part of the S95C, the new huge TV doesn’t feature the design that makes it appear nearly seamless with the wall.

But thanks to its tall display, you will still have to shell out an eye-watering premium price tag of 5,400 US Dollars. The 83-inch Class promises to offer “pure blacks, limitless contrast, and vibrant colors.” These are all powered by the Samsung Neural Quantum processor. Furthermore, it still offers a LaserSlim design that makes the bezel appear negligible.

The new TV also comes with the Samsung SolarCell Remote, which can be charged through both artificial and natural light as well as RF waves. This remote does not require any batteries, which helps reduce electronic waste.

SeeColors mode provides nine picture presets that users can select from. The feature adjusts red, green, and blue levels to ensure viewers can easily distinguish colors on the screen depending on their degree or type of CVD. Originally released as an app in 2017, SeeColors is now integrated into TV and monitor accessibility menus. This makes the feature more accessible to users, and a software update will be available for 2023 models that have already been purchased.

Samsung has earned “Color Vision Accessibility” certification from TÜV Rheinland in recognition of SeeColors mode’s ability to help people with CVD better enjoy content on Samsung screens. This certification builds on Samsung’s commitment to accessibility, under the vision of “Screens Everywhere, Screens for All.”

In February, China’s TV market shipments reached a whopping 2.41 million units, with Xiaomi securing the second spot ahead of well-known brands like Sony and Samsung. Here are the details…

China’s TV Market Sees 26.8% YoY Increase in February, Xiaomi Climbs to Second Place

The Chinese TV market saw a surge in shipments in February 2023, with a total of 2.41 million units shipped, marking a 26.8% year-on-year increase. However, there was a 28.5% month-on-month decrease, which could be attributed to the Spring Festival holiday. In January and February, the total shipments amounted to 5.78 million units, representing a slight decline of 2.9% year-on-year.

The top seven traditional main brands in the Chinese TV market, including Xiaomi, Hisense, TCL, Skyworth, Changhong, Haier, and Konka, and their sub-brands, accounted for over 90% of the overall market in February. These brands saw a total of 2.22 million units shipped, a 30.7% year-on-year increase, but a 28.7% month-on-month decrease.

The first camp, which comprises brands with annual shipments of over 5 million units, saw total shipments of 1.87 million units, marking a 46% year-on-year increase but a 28% month-on-month decrease. Xiaomi, including its sub-brand Redmi, shipped 550,000 units in February, representing a 10% year-on-year increase.

Hisense, TCL, and Skyworth saw a significant increase in shipments in February, with a total of 1.32 million units shipped. Hisense’s sub-brand Vidda was the top-performing brand, shipping nearly 600,000 units, a 55% year-on-year increase.

The second camp, which includes brands with annual shipments of about 3 million units, saw a decline in shipments in February. The total shipments for Changhong, Konka, and Haier were about 350,000 units, marking a 15% year-on-year decline and a 30% month-on-month decrease.

Huawei’s shipments have been declining year-on-year since the fourth quarter of 2022, and there was no improvement in February 2023. The four major foreign brands, Sony, Samsung, Sharp, and Philips, shipped a total of about 100,000 units in February, marking a 15% year-on-year decrease.

Despite being a relatively new player in the market, Xiaomi ranked second in the overall market, beating out brands like Sony and Samsung. This could be attributed to Xiaomi’s focus on profitability and overseas expansion. The Chinese TV market continues to experience fluctuations, with some brands seeing growth while others struggle to maintain their market share.

Samsung Electronics added another feather to its hat by obtaining the first-ever Circadian Rhythm Display Certification for its 2023 Neo QLED and Lifestyle TVs, earlier in January. This certification proves Samsung’s commitment to developing technology and products designed with consumers at the top of its mind. 

The certifications will be available for models Q70C and above and the Lifestyle TV variants Frame, Serif, and Sero.

What is Circadian Rhythm Display certification?

The World’s first Circadian Rhythm Display Certification was granted by the Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE), an internationally accredited electronics, components, and systems certification institute in Germany. The VDE Certification confirms compliance with harmonized standards and is a competent proof of compliance with requirements of safety, quality, and EMC.

The VDE Circadian Rhythm Display certification process complies with the Circadian Stimulus method based on the research results of the Lighting Research Center in the U.S.

The certification recognizes Samsung TV’s, Eye Comfort Modes’ ability to automatically balance and adjust the light exposure and color temperature to mimic outdoor lighting. 

The Eye Comfort mode impacts the viewer’s circadian rhythm, by measuring circadian stimulus for different levels of lighting and brightness and calculating the effect on melatonin suppression. When the screen’s light exposure, imitates the natural outdoor lighting, it benefits your biological circadian rhythm which decides when to release and inhibit the hormone Melatonin. This in turn helps you to get a comfortable rest and sleep better.

Melatonin is an essential hormone that your brain produces in response to darkness. This hormone helps to time and control your Circadian Rhythm (24-hour internal clock) and helps with sleep. A common symptom of insufficient and irregular Melatonin is sleep disturbance. 

Smart devices and screens produce blue light, which fools the brain into thinking it’s day time and stops the release of Melatonin. This is why when you watch TV or use smartphones late into the evening and night, your brain inhibits the release of Melatonin as it thinks it’s still daytime, which can lead to sleep issues like insomnia.

After the pandemic, the time spent by people on smart devices and displays has increased significantly. An average person spends more than 6 hours a day on displays connected to the internet. According to Statista, in 2022 more than 5.41 billion people used Television and this number will keep on increasing in the come years.

Samsung’s Eye Comfort Mode provides an optimal viewing experience to its users who are spending more time indoors with their television and reduces the impact on the viewer’s Melatonin.

Ebrard continued by saying that he has already had a meeting to go through the specifics of this partnership with Samsung Electronics CEO Han Jong Hee.

The company already has a TV assembly facility in Tijuana, Mexico, with an approximate 19 million unit yearly output. The complete North American television strategy of Samsung depends on this factory. Units manufactured in Tijuana are sold throughout the continent, which also happens to be one of Samsung’s largest TV markets.

Therefore, it is not surprising to see that Samsung is eager to invest more money in Mexico in order to enhance productivity and make its products more competitively priced. Samsung is able to successfully serve the whole North American market thanks to its manufacturing presence in Mexico.

Samsung had remained silent about newer iterations of its Quantum Dot OLED TVs at CES 2022, despite rival Sony launching several of them. But that looks to be changing now with the emergence of a new listing at an online retail site.

American online retailer Value Electronics has now listed the Samsung QS95B QD-OLED, even as Samsung is yet to provide any official details about the product.

According to the listing, the Samsung QS95B QD-OLED TV will be available in two sizes – 55 inches and 65 inches. Both models appear to support DCI-P3, BT.2020 profiles for richer HDR viewing, and run Samsung’s own Tizen operating system with support for voice control.

Aside from this, the QS95B also offers four HDMI 2.1 ports along with advanced features like a 120Hz refresh rate and VRR. It even has a built-in next-generation ATSC 3.0 OTA tuner.

There is no indication of the pricing yet, but Quantum Dot OLED TVs don’t usually come cheap, so expect the same for the Samsung QS95B too. Regardless, now that a retail site as major as Value Electronics felt it’s in a position to set up a page for Samsung’s new QD OLED TVs, more official information is set to drop really soon, so stay tuned.

The lineup of high-end TVs from Samsung in 2022 will include 8K MiniLED and 4K OLED TVs according to sources. These premium products are driven by some immersive technologies being developed by the Korean tech powerhouse. The 8K MiniLED TV will be the highest among the lineup and will carry the Neo QLED TV brand.

Samsung’s MicroLED TVs are on the high end of the spectrum but the company only produces very few units to meet demand from its clientele on the top echelon of the market. They are yet to be produced in the numbers that would scale down to other segments, although this may be an economic decision. The 8K Neo QLED TV is on the highest tier, followed by the 4K OLED TVs. The display technology for the Neo QLED is to be provided by Samsung Display and it is believed that the OLED technology is capable of offering 8K resolution, although Samsung is limiting the OLED to 4K which will be produced by LG Display.

The Neo QLED 4K is also part of the lineup of TVs for 2022. Samsung is projecting to sell 3 million units of the 8K QLED and up to 2 million of the 4K models. Samsung is currently in talks with LG Display to procure up to 2 million units of the W-OLED 4K panels in pursuit of its sales goals. It is expected that the cheaper OLED TVs could have higher demand than the QLED, although it remains to be seen what marketing strategy is in place to drive the company’s expectations.

Samsung is also developing its capacity to produce OLED panels from its display arm, Samsung Display. To this end, the Samsung-LG collaboration will most likely terminate by 2024 when Samsung would have started producing these panels.

Samsung has just been hit with a sizeable 39 million Euros (roughly 45 million US Dollars) fine from a Dutch regulator. The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has found the company guilty of influencing the prices for its TVs.

According to NLTimes, the South Korean tech giant influenced the prices that various stores charger for its televisions between the years 2013 and 2018. In other words, this lead to customers paying more for their Samsung branded TVs. The report added that the brand had apparently looked up every online offering of its TVs and put online stores under pressure to inflate the prices, which is illegal as per the ACM.

The ACM investigated the matter and found the unauthorized practices from the known consumer electronics maker across even retailers that sold Samsung branded televisions online. Samsung reportedly sent messages to sellers to raise the prices if the company found that the prices were lower than what it wanted. While employees claimed that it was presented as an advice, the market authority found that it was not a non committal suggestion.

Furthermore, the company even intervened when retailers complained about competitors selling its TVs for lower prices. The ACM found these practices from WhatsApp and emails that Samsung had addressed to the various retailers. ACM CEO Martijn Snoep stated “Samsung’s behavior distorted competition at the retail level and led to higher prices for consumers.” As of right now, the company is against the decision by the ACM and is prepared to take legal steps against the fine since it complied with all competition rules.

Samsung has its hands in many pies, and the TV market is one area where it is also a leading company. So, unless you live under a rock, you most likely have seen a Samsung TV before.

Following an incident in July where TVs were looted in its warehouse in South Africa, Samsung has revealed that stolen TVs can be remotely blocked via a feature called TV Block. In a press release posted early this month, the Korean giant revealed that the feature is activated when a stolen TV is connected to the internet. The serial number of the TV is cross-referenced on Samsung’s server and then the block feature which deactivates all TV functions is activated. Samsung says that if a TV is incorrectly blocked, a customer has to provide proof of purchase and a valid TV license to serv.managaer@samsung.com.

The TV Black function is reported to be built into all Samsung TV sets. “The aim of the technology is to mitigate against the creation of secondary markets linked to the sale of illegal goods, both in South Africa and beyond its borders,” said Samsung.

While this is a pretty neat feature, Samsung doesn’t seem to be offering the TV Block function to individuals. If your TV is stolen from your home due to a robbery or burglary, you may be able to go to a Samsung office to report the theft and provide the serial code so that the TV can be blocked. However, allowing individuals to be able to block their TVs themselves either via an app or through the website is something Samsung should look towards providing.

Samsung Electronics has come out as the leader in the global TV market for the 15th consecutive year in 2020. The company led the market followed by LG and Sony, as per an Omdia research report.

As per a FlatPanelsHD report, the South Korean tech giant recorded its lead 15 years in a row last year. In the global TV segment, it achieved a market share of 31.9 percent in terms of sales revenue in 2020. This marks a modest rise from 30.9 percent from the year prior. Unfortunately, the exact sales unit figures were not provided in the report. For those unaware, the company became the TV market leader back in 2006, when it launched the ‘Bordeaux’-designed LCD TVs.

Since then, Samsung has led the market thanks to its heavy investments and marketing in the segment. Furthermore, another South Korean firm arrived second as LG held a market share of 16.5 percent. On the other hand, Sony arrived third with a global market share of 9.1 percent. In other words, South Korean TV manufacturers alone accounted for nearly 50 percent of the entire TV market last year.

According to Omdia, the company sold 7.79 million QLED LCD TVs last year, while LG sold just 2.04 million OLED TVs. Interestingly, Samsung saw great performance in both the higher and lower end markets. Meaning, its popularity was even across multiple segments, especially in the premium segment where it held a 50.8 percent market share for TV sizes 80 inch or larger TVs.

Samsung had just recently unveiled its new Mini LED QLED TVs and a refresh of its The Frame TV at the CES 2021 event. And now, the company is showing no signs of slowing down as it aims on announcing new TVs on 2nd March 2021, during its Unbox & Discover 2021 event.

According to a SamMobile report, the South Korean tech giant has announced the date for its Unbox & Discovery 2021 event. During this conference, the company aims to “share its vision” for new and innovative products, which will “redefine the role of the TV.” The brand aims to achieve this through the use of cutting edge technology and beautiful design. Furthermore, the company also aims at announcing new partnerships during the upcoming virtual event, which will be be streamed on Samsung.com and YouTube.

At the moment, it is unknown which TVs or new screen technologies Samsung will be unveiling at the Unbox & Discovery 2021 event. Although, the company might reveal new entries that feature its LED, QLED, or even its Neo QLEDs for the 2021 lineup. Previously, the company’s display unit had also unveiled a 90Hz OLED panel for laptops, and is also set to launch QD-OLED (OLED panels with Quantum Dot technology) for TVs launching later this year.

Recently, a 16-Yr old Charli D’Amelio was the first to hit 100 million followers on the App. Today, it partners with Samsung to launch the TikTok App on Samsung Smart TVs in Europe.

Samsung has made the announcement of the App and the collaboration with TikTok on its newsroom(via Sammobile). As per the announcement, users of Europe can exclusively access the short video-platform application on their Samsung TVs. However, it is available only for UK as of now. Precisely, you can take a look at the list of TVs that support are below:

• All Samsung TV models from 2018-2020 in the UK*
  • 4K and 8K TVs, Smart Monitor
  • The Premiere(projector)
  • The Frame
  • The Serif

*- All models of Samsung excluding The Sero. It will get the feature in 2021. The list of TVs for other countries(Europe) will be announced in the coming months. Also, we aren’t sure if this will expand out of Europe.

Samsung says, despite being a TV App, it’s crafted for a wholesome experience whilst being at home. As per the company, the TikTok App on TV will be similar and have ‘For You’ and ‘Following’ feeds. Additionally, it will also allow users to access the most liked and viewed content, #LearnOnTikTok for cooking hacks, fitness tips, etc.

Apart from this, the content on TikTok will organize content in 12 categories including Comedy, Learning, Sports, Travel, Animals, Art, Food, and more. That’s not all, as the TV App will also allow you to like, comment, and even Block/Mark not-so-interested content(Restricted mode). Good thing is, you can surf the App even without an account.

Ever since TikTok got banned in its biggest market India, the company has been handling tough challenges. The latest development in the USA is that, after temporarily escaping the ban, it is now facing an appeal from the US government.

Anyway, a sweet deal with Samsung will be a sign of relief as TikTok can now reach millions of homes across Europe. That said, the announcement says apart from this, TikTok can also be downloaded via Samsung Smart TV App Store and will be pre-installed in future TVs as well.

Samsung Electronics has just unveiled a new product that it is targeting towards businesses and other commercial enterprises. It is the new 110 inch Micro LED TV, which was announced earlier today (10th December 2020).

The massive new TV was announced during an online event that the company hosted using the Webinar system, which is an interactive video conference solution that is used to introduce new products. Arriving at its most notable aspect, its display features Micro LED technology, which is touted to be the next generation for displays. It is a true self luminous TV that eliminates structures such as backlights and color filters by using micro LEDs in micrometer (㎛) units, and the LED itself emits light and color.

So, unlike a regular TV display, Micro LED panels RGB are the only ones that can emit light and color by itself. This allows one to experience natural colors and have a better viewing experience. The 110 inch Micro LED TV is similar to the South Korean tech giant’s previously launched, The Wall, which was also aimed at businesses and was one of the company’s first display that utilized Micro LED. A notable feature of the TV is its ‘Quad View (4Vue)’ function, which lets users divide the 110 inch display into four 50 inch screens.

Furthermore, the new Samsung TV features 4K resolution with more than 8 million micro LED elements in a size of just 3.3 square meters. This processor is a dedicated chip that combines the  self-luminous characteristics and proprietary artificial intelligence algorithms, which is based on the quantum processor technology applied to QLED 8K TVs that helps offer a near perfect real world color reproduction.

Arriving at the audio, the 110 inch Samsung Micro LED TV sports ‘Arena Sound’ that can offer a clear and immersive audio experience without the use of an external speaker. It supports 5.1 channel sound paired with OTS Pro technology (Object Tracking Sound), which moves the speaker along with the movement of the subject in front of the TV. It follows a minimalist ‘Monolithic design,’ with negligible bezels on every side of the TV, enabling a full display body on the front.

Samsung Electronics has witnessed an all time high share in the global TV market. The South Korean tech giant leads in terms of revenue during the third quarter of this year, as per a new report.

According to TheKoreaHerald, a market report from the known research based organization, Omdia, has revealed that the company held a sizeable 33.1 percent market share on terms of revenue in the total market. This is a a record high firgure from Samsung. As per the report, the company noted a revenue from TV sales in the third quarter of 2020, reaching 9.3 billion US Dollars, marking an impressive growth of 22 percent year on year.

Furthermore, Samsung sold 14.85 million TV units during the month of July to September, which is also up by 39 percent. In terms of number of units sold, the company now accounts for 23.6 percent of total across the globe. The global TV market had brought in a total 28.1 billion US Dollars in the third quarter, which is up by 11.8 percent year on year.

Similarly, Global TV sales have also grown by 14.7 percent year on year, reaching 62.87 million units in sales. Sources from within the industry have stated that healthy sales of QLED and other large TVs have contributed to the company’s increased market share, despite the impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic. In just a year, Samsung doubled its QLED TV sales from 1.16 million to 2.33 million units.

Another South Korean brand, LG Electronics arrived second in the category during the same period. It saw a 16.6 percent market share in the third quarter, which was followed by Sony with 10.1 percent. Samsung and LG’s combined sales alone account for 49.7 percent of the total global market.

Samsung has witnessed a dip in the shipment of devices in recent times, mostly because of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the company has been missing targets when it comes to smartphones, Samsung appears to be confident when it comes to Smart TVs.

The South Korean giant has said that it is expecting to ship more than 100,000 units of its larger TVs by the end of August. The larger TV in this includes those models with a screen size of 75-inch or larger, reports The Elec.

This means that Samsung expects to ship 45 million units of Smart TVs by the end of 2020, despite the COVID-19 pandemic which was the reason for the fall in shipments by 60 percent YoY in the first half of the year.

In related news, Samsung is planning to launch its own lineup of Mini LED Smart TVs sometime next year. This will be yet another premium TV series from the company, which already has two lineups in this segment — QLED and Micro LED.

The great deflation in expected sales figures occurred largely due to the COVID-19 outbreak which ravaged the world. After originating from China, the infection soon spread worldwide and has caused consumer spending to drop to an all time low in a very long time. This has affected various industries and economies, with a multinational corporation like Samsung being no exception.

In other words, Samsung has to ship 35 million TVs in just 6 months. Needless to say, the target is nothing short of overly ambitious at the moment. Notably, the Samsung target was also set back when the Tokyo Summer Olympics was still planned and where the company hoped to make major sales. Although, with the delay of the event, it doesn’t seem likely that it can rely on it any longer. According to a new report, Samsung Electronics is set to unveil its premium grade bezel-less TV in CES 2020 (Consumer Electronics Show). Apparently, the TV will also be the first design of its kind.

Reportedly, multiple senior executives like Kim Hyun-seok and others from the South Korean tech giant, gave the upcoming top notch entertainment product a thumbs up. This implies that Samsung has plans to start mass production of the TV from February.

One of the notable aspects regarding the TV which sets it apart is its bezel-less display. In other words, the borders of the TV’s body are now more seamless with its display panel.

Samsung will be making this a basic feature for its TV series lineup sized 65 inches and larger. The company has achieved this by closely welding together the display panel and the main body of the TV; using equipment from the Shinsegye Engineering for the process. Additionally, Samsung also collaborated with another local supplier named Taewha Precision to supply the parts for the equipment.

Samsung has just launched the ultimate TV for those that love watching movies or sports on very big screens. The South Korean tech giant has just launched it’s ‘The Wall’ lineup of TV. It arrives in 146-inch, 219-inch, and 292-inch models and will set users back for a massive Rs. 3.5 crores,  Rs. 12 crores, excluding taxes.

Reportedly, Samsung is targetting the ultra-high net worth individuals with this product. The company is hoping to sell at least 25 to 30 units of the massive display by 2020 while generating 12 million USD in revenue (roughly 85 crores INR or 84,403,200 CNY). According to Puneet Sethi (Vice President, Consumer Electronics Enterprise Business, Samsung India), The Wall display has great potential in the Indian subcontinent which is home to approximately 140 billionaires and over 950 multi-millionaires.

Samsung aims to sell 25-30 models in the first year which is also projected to rise to 100 units by 2021 and 200 by 2022. Sethi also stated that the added revenue in the arriving years could bring in a revenue of 65 to 70 million USD by 2022.

Specifications and Features

Samsung’s ‘The Wall’ display arrives in three different sizes starting from 146-inch, 219-inch, and 292-inch. Notably, it is the company’s first modular MicroLED display which has been introduced in India. One of the reasons for the staggering price is the technology behind the display itself. According to Samsung, The Wall optimizes picture quality scene by scene, regardless of the original source resolution. It achieves this thanks to the Quantum Processor Flex enabled with AI picture quality engine.

In other words, Quantum Processor Flex is a machine learning program that enhances the video being displayed on the screen. It does this by analyzing millions of image data to automatically calibrate the original low-resolution image according to the display. The Wall can also be connected to any operating system through a physical HDMI input.

When the screen is not in use, The Wall goes into ambient mode displaying a variety of curated art from paintings, photographs, video art to customizable pictures with digital frames. It features a 0.8mm pixel pitch technology for immersive viewing and with a depth of 30mm, it is slim, bezel-less and blends seamlessly into its surroundings.

The 146-inch model supports 4K UHD definition, while the 219-inch arrives in 6K and the 292-inch supports 8K resolutions. The Wall features AI upscaling for varying resolutions, Quantum HDR technology, peak brightness of 2,000 and a 120Hz refresh rate. All of this translates to a rich visual experience meant for home cinema and gaming as well. Market research firm IHS Markit has released its first quarter 2019 survey data for the smart TV market. According to the data, Samsung SmartTV arm continues to dominate the TV segment. Samsung TV’s market share in the first quarter of this year was put at 29.4%, up 0.8 percentage from the same period last year (28.6%), ranking first.

In recent years, the QLED TV market has grown rapidly. According to statistics, the total sales volume of QLED TVs in the first quarter of this year was about 912,000 units. This is over 2.5 times that of the same period last year. A total of 3.367 million units of QLED TVs were shipped last year and with the estimates for Q1, there is the likelihood that this year’s shipment will be higher.

Another premium TV segment, talking about OLED TVs also had an estimated 611,000 units shipped in the first quarter of this year. This represents an increase of 30% year-on-year. In terms of revenue, total sales of QLED TVs were estimated to be US$1.87 billion, while an estimated US$1.365 billion accrued from sales of OLED TVs.

The research data also reveal a love for large-screen TVs by consumers globally. The market share of 69-70-inch TVs has increased significantly. Compared with last year, the market share of 70-inch smart TVs increased from 5.1% to 7.6%, while the market shares of 60-69 inches TVs also increased from 14.8% to 19.1%.

Analysts believe Samsung dominance of the market was largely due to its focus on QLED TV and large-screen luxury TVs. At the end of last month, Samsung Electronics launched a 98-inch ultra-large QLED TV. At this pace, it is difficult for other brands to presently compete with Samsung in the large-size TV market.
