The new version is MIUI V10.2.3.0.PEBCNXM and the update make the Mi 8SE the sixth Xiaomi model to get the night scene mode after the Mi Mix 3, Mi 8 Pro, Mi 8, Redmi Note 7 and the Mi MIX 2s.
The night mode feature allows users to take HDR photos at night that appear super bright even if lighting is poor. The Night Scene mode takes several photos at different exposures and combines them into a single image that is bright and with as less noise as possible. The camera is able to do it by combining 8 different technologies including HDR, AIS, 4-axis OIS, and multi-frame noise reduction.

You have to find a compromise and renounce to important high-end specs if you want to save some money. The trick not to make a disappointing purchase if you are not searching for anything particular is to get a well-balanced device at least when it comes to the main specs such as the hardware side, battery and sometimes even the camera department. Nokia 7.1, Honor View 10 Lite and Xiaomi Mi 8 SE are very good choices if you do not want to spend a lot of money, and this comparison will tell you which one is the best.

Design

If you are one of those users who like to have a beautiful handset, it may be a very good idea to grab a unit of the Honor View 10 Lite. Thanks to its reflective glass back available in four different colors and a display covering almost the whole front panel (more than 84 percent screen-to-body ratio with a notch and a tiny chin), it is definitely the most impressive handset. On the other hand, Xiaomi Mi 8 SE is the most original one with its sharp shape, and it is also the sleekest and most compact. I would pick Xiaomi Mi 8 SE for its originality.

Display

Xiaomi Mi 8 SE has the best display: an outstanding Super AMOLED panel with a size of 5.88 inches and a Full HD+ resolution. It supports both the HDR10 technology and DCI-P3 coverage for very brilliant and realistic colors. It is even a compact screen, so it is not hard to use even with one hand. Nokia 7.1 takes the second place as it features the HDR10 technology as well which provides very nice colors. Huawei Honor View 10 Lite has the worst viewing quality but it is the biggest one with a huge diagonal of 6.5 inches.

Specs & Software

The winner is Xiaomi Mi 8 SE even when it comes to hardware and performance. It features the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset which is the best option in the Android market if we exclude the 800 series found on the best flagship phones. So it provides the smoothest and fastest performance in every scenario. Unfortunately, this device does not have a micro SD slot unlike its opponents, but it is available with up to 128 GB of internal storage. Nokia 7.1 is the only device to have Android One installed,

Camera

If you are going to get one of these handsets, do not expect a huge camera quality. When it comes to cameras, these devices are just normal mid-rangers. This does not mean that their cameras are disappointing as they are much more than sufficient, but they are far from flagships. These devices feature similar camera specifications, so we can not choose a winner until we test Nokia 7.1 which is still not available to purchase.

Battery

Given its bigger body, Huawei Honor View 10 Lite has also a bigger battery than its concurrence. It features a lithium unit with a capacity of 3750 mAh which is able to last more than Nokia 7.1 and Xiaomi Mi 8 SE and their below-3200 mAh batteries. However, you will need some more time to fully charge it as it does not features a very fast charging technology.

Price

Judging from the overall specification and prices of these phones, I would definitely pick Xiaomi Mi 8 SE due to its better display, compact dimensions, and higher performance. It costs about €300/$344 (price varies depending on the region and stores), while Nokia 7.1 and Honor View 10 Lite cost €319/$366 and €300/$344 respectively.

Given the high number of variants of the Mi 8 which are now in the market with similar names and the high amount of Xiaomi upper mid-rangers, we believe it is time to shed some light about the ones sold in the same price range as the new Mi 8 Lite. Here, you will find the main differences and similarities between Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, Xiaomi Mi 8 SE and Xiaomi Mi A2. We will also suggest you which one you should eventually buy. Three handsets with high performance and similar specs at a modest price: who wins and which would be the most suitable for you? Let’s discover it together

Differences

Given that aesthetics are the first thing we can see while looking at a phone, let’s start with the design which is different for each device. Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is definitely the most attractive one with its gradient hues. But you may also love the Mi 8 SE with its original square shape and its incredibly high screen-to-body ratio, as well as the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection for the display. Xiaomi Mi A2 is the only with a metal unibody design and it has just a midrange-level design.

Another important difference is in the displays: three different aspect ratios (19:9 for the Mi 8 Lite, 18.7:9 for the Mi 8 SE and 18:9 for the Mi A2) and three different sizes (6.26, 5.88 and 5.99 inches, respectively). Xiaomi Mi 8 SE is the most compact device due to its smaller display, high screen-to-body ratio, and smaller diagonal. It is also the one with the best viewing quality thanks to the Super AMOLED panel with HDR10 technology and DCI-P3 coverage. Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite and Mi A2 both have mid-end LCD panels.

Talking about the hardware, Xiaomi Mi 8 SE is the most powerful as it has a better SoC: the Snapdragon 710 by Qualcomm paired with up to 6 GB of RAM. Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite and Mi A2 have the same SoC and memory configurations, but Mi A2 is the only one of these devices to boast Android One, a stock version of the operating system supported by Google with faster updates.

Coming to camera quality, Xiaomi Mi A2 is definitely the most convincing one with its 12 + 20 MP dual camera on the rear and its bright f/1.8 aperture. It can capture stunning shots even when light conditions are not the best and it is one step forward to its opponents. Xiaomi Mi 8 SE and Mi 8 Lite have the same dual camera setup with 12 and 5 MP, f/1.9 and f/2.0 apertures. At last, there is a slight difference in battery capacities, with the Mi 8 Lite having the biggest one (3350 mAh), Mi 8 SE at the second place (3120 mAh) and Mi A2 with the smallest one (3000 mAh). One last difference: Mi 8 SE features an infrared face unlock system, while the others do not.

Similarities

First of all, these devices are similar in terms of hardware, because they all feature an upper-midrange hardware side. Even though the Mi 8 SE packs a higher-end processor, the difference should not be noticeable in everyday use. Each of these devices can be bought with the same memory configuration. All of them have the same display resolution and even though the sizes are slightly different, the level of detail is the same. The battery life is similar as well because their batteries are similar (but not the same) and so is the software optimization.

Further, all of them feature amazing front cameras with high resolutions for very detailed selfies (Mi A2 and Mi 8 SE have a smaller resolution than Mi 8 Lite but Mi A2 is the only with a front-facing LED flash). All the secondary sensors of these devices were thought to capture depth information. Other similarities which do not interest every handset regard the materials (glass back + aluminum frame for Mi 8 SE and Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite), same SoC (Mi 8 Lite and Mi A2), MIUI (Mi 8 Lite and Mi 8 SE), same rear and front cameras (Mi 8 Lite and Mi 8 SE) and similar prices (while you can get Mi A2 and Mi 8 Lite for less than $210, for Mi 8 SE you need more than $300).

The outfit equally evaluates the price points of the top selling phones based on their prices and AnTuTu score to give a ranking of the most value for money models in the various pricing categories. Here is the ranking for the month of August 2018 and the price used in the ranking is that with which the models are sold in China.

In the under 1000 yuan price category (0-999 yuan) the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 3GB + 32GB version offers the best value for your money. The model was launched in March this year with a starting price of 1,099 Yuan (~$171) for the 3GB + 32GB version. The model had its price slashed by 100 yuan and now sells for 999 yuan. Even outside China, third-party retailers sell the model for around 169.99 which is pretty cheap for a Snapdragon 636-powered phablet. The Meizu M6s 3GB+32Gb version follows at the second spot while Xiaomi’s budget Redmi 6A comes in at the third spot.

For the 1000-1999 yuan pricing category, 360 Mobiles known for its premium but affordable models occupy the top 2 spots with the 360 N7 Lite 4GB+32GB version at the top spot and the 360 N7 4GB+32GB on the second position. Huawei’s Honor Play (4GB+64GB) is another value for money phone which has equally got lots of positive reviews. The list also contains the Xiaomi Mi 6X (4GB+32GB) or Mi A2 if you like. The Snapdragon 710-powered Mi 8 SE follows as well as the Nova 2s, Smartisan Nut Pro 2s, Vivo Z1, 360 N6 Pro and Lenovo Z5.

The next category in the AnTuTu best value for money ranking is 2000-2999 yuan price category which comprises of flagship models. Top of the pack is the Meizu 16th 6GB+64GB version with 108 points which is not a surprise. This is closely followed by the Mi 8 (6+64GB) with 105 points and on the third spot is Xiaomi’s Black Shark gaming phone (6+64GB). Other smartphones that offer value for money include the Mi Mx 2s, Honor V10, Mi Mix 2, Smartisan R1, Honor 10, Nubia Red Magic and Z17s.

This time around, the 4GB + 64GB version is on offer for 1699 yuan (~$248) which is 100 yuan lower than its launch price tag. The Mi 8 SE went on sale on June 8 with a starting price of 1799 yuan for the 4GB+64GB version while the 6GB+64GB sold for 1999 yuan.

The slight price reduction is likely going to be a limited time offer but there is no indication as to when it will end. However, we draw some optimism from these consistent price reductions to look forward to a slash in the price of the model outside China.

Zeblaze has a reputation for manufacturing top-notch fitness products that help you stay fit by keeping an eye on your weight, exercise, sleep and a slew of other activities. The Shenzhen-based wearable product manufacturer is now offering some of its well-received wearables products at a lowered price on Banggood.

All products have been split into multiple categories. The first segment bearing the ‘Recommendation’ moniker features the IP67 certified Vibe 3 HR smartwatch, which would normally set you back $69.99 on online stores.

The first 10 buyers will be able to get their hands on this feature-laden smartwatch at a dropped price of just $19.99 for 3 days. The remaining pieces will be up for grabs for a discounted price of $33.99. This 51% discount will be limited to only 300 pieces.

Alternatively, you can buy the Zeblaze THOR 4 smartwatch phone in the Recommendation section. Zeblaze is giving 30% off on the device’s original asking price of $199.99 and as a result, you can buy it at a slashed price of just $139.99.

You can pair the THOR 4 smartwatch phone with the Zeblaze Plug, which normally sells for $32.99 but is currently available at a reduced price of just $22.99. As a combo with the THOR 4, the Zeblaze Plug will set you back just $0.1.

You can buy the THOR 4 Smart Watch Phone and Zeblaze Plug for just $140.09. In other words, you end up saving a considerable $22.89 without breaking much of a sweat.

The New Arrival Section features a 50% off on the Zeblaze Crystal 2 HR Monitor smartwatch, a 66% off on VIBE 3 and a 30% discount on the THOR Pro smartwatch. It is worth noting that the aforesaid discounts will be valid for a limited number of pieces only.
The Hot Sale segment is crammed with a slew of high-end wearables. More importantly, Zeblaze is offering the discount on some of the devices included in this category.

For instance, you can get a 30% off on the Zeblaze VIBE LITE 5 smartwatch, which usually carries a $39.99 price tag. Thanks to the discount, you can now buy the coveted smartwatch at a reduced price of just $27.99.

The AI technology on MIUI 10 brings deep learning and thus reduces the loading time of apps by studying your app usage behaviour and anticipating actions. Another advantage is that MIUI 10 brings single camera bokeh mode to old Xiaomi smartphones including Xiaomi Mi 5 and Xiaomi Mi Note 2. The custom ROM also comes with a new driving mode, smart home gadgets manager and other features in addition to the existing features of MIUI 9.

Wong had claimed in the previous month that the Snapdragon 710 powered Meizu X8 will be better than the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE that is also driven by the same SoC. A leaked photo of the prototype of Meizu X8 has revealed that it will be arriving with a notched display.

The leaked snap of the Meizu X8’s prototype shows that it features a wide notch. It is likely to house an earpiece, a frontal shooter and some other sensors. The image shows the “About Phone” page of the phone which reveals that the Snapdragon 710 will be present under its hood. It will be arriving with Android 8.1 Oreo preinstalled.

The upcoming Meizu 16 and 16 Plus smartphones will be the first phones from the company to arrive with in-display fingerprint scanner. Wong has confirmed that SD710 powered Meizu X8 won’t be featuring the advanced fingerprint scanning technology. Meizu X8, the first notched phone from the Chinese firm will be offering a high screen-to-body ratio.

Wong has also revealed the X8’s display size will be bigger than that of Xiaomi Mi 8 SE that features a 5.8-inch display. Probably, the X8 may arrive with a 6-inch screen, but there is no confirmation on it yet.

As far as pricing is concerned, the handset is likely to be priced between 1,500 Yuan (~$228) and 2,000 Yuan (~$295). Probably, the 1,500 Yuan (~$228) price tag will belong to Meizu X8’s 64 GB storage + 6 GB RAM variant and the higher model with 128 GB storage + 6 GB RAM may carry a pricing of 2,000 Yuan (~$295). The 4 GB and 6 GB RAM versions of the Xiaomi Mi 8 that are packed with 64 GB of native storage are respectively priced at 1,799 Yuan (~$265) and 1,999 Yuan (~$294).

DD4 is doling out big discounts on a myriad of Xiaomi-branded smartphones and phablets. Deemed as one of China’s leading online shopping site for electronics, mobile devices, and lots more, DD4 is will be selling the Redmi Note 5A, Redmi 6, and the Mi 8 SE smartphones at a considerably lowered price.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A 4G Phablet

The Mi 8 and Mi 8SE basically feature the same design but the sizes and screen ratio are slightly different from each other. The trio equally present with the notch design up at the display. The notch is similar to what we have on the iPhone X. The wideness of the cut out gave the device an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. As a reminder, the display is a 6.12-inch Super AMOLED screen with an FHD+ resolution of 2248 x 1080 pixels. and it delivers a screen-to-body ratio of 86.12 percent. The screen is enabled with features like DCI-P3 color gamut, 60000:1 contrast ratio, up to 600nits brightness, HDR support, Eye protection mode, and Always-On Display.

The rear design is also similar to the iPhone X, taking into account the vertically stacked dual rear camera located at the top corner. There is also a fingerprint sensor at the back. The Mi 8 flagship continues the glass back panel which the Mi 6 featured. In this case, it utilises a 2.5D glass panel while the mid frame is made from metal with a sleek finish. In the case of the Mi 8 Explorer Edition, it features a translucent glass back which shows the internal components in a beautiful way.

There is no fingerprint sensor at the back instead, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition has an in-screen fingerprint reader that enables users to unlock the phone simply touch and scan fingerprint sensor embedded that is embedded in its display. Xiaomi claims that since the display of the phone is equipped with a highly sensitive pressure sensor, it can instantly scan and unlock the phone by touching on the screen gently. Hence, a user does not require to press harder on the screen to unlock it.

Along with Mi 8, the company is also set to launch its next-gen OS MIUI 10 as well as fitness tracker Mi Band 3. Further, reports indicate that Xiaomi will also launch Mi 8 SE, the lower-end variant of its upcoming flagship smartphone.

Now, an image of the Mi 8 SE’s key features has surfaced online through Weibo. It reveals that the smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm‘s recently announced Snapdragon 710 AIE processor. If this turns out to be true, then the Mi 8 SE will be the first smartphone to be powered by Snapdragon 710 SoC.

The newly launched Snapdragon 710 mobile platform is a 10nm chipset that includes two cores of Kryo 360 Cortex A75 that clocks at 2.2 GHz and six cores of Kryo 360 Cortex A55 that offers a processing speed of 1.7 GHz. The octa-core processor is coupled with Adreno 616 graphics that promises 35 percent better rendering of graphics.

The leaked image also suggests that the Mi 8 SE will come equipped with AI-powered dual cameras at the back with 1.4μm pixel size and a 20-megapixel front-facing camera with selfie light.

The flagship Mi 8 is expected to come with an under-display fingerprint sensor. But given that the Mi 8 SE seems like a low-cost variant of the Mi 8, we expect the smartphone to come with the traditional fingerprint sensor at the back of the phone instead of the in-display sensor. It is also unclear if the smartphone will come with Face Unlock feature or not.

The leaked image hints at a notched display on the Mi 8 SE, similar to the one that is expected for the company’s flagship smartphone. The previous report indicates that the Mi 8 SE could come in storage editions — 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB with all the three models packing 6GB of RAM.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 is rumored to become the first Android smartphone with 3D facial recognition feature. The smartphone is expected to come with a 6.2-inch notched enabled OLED display, up to 6 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of internal storage. Powered by 3,300mAh battery, the device is expected to be available in Grey, Gold, Blue, and Red colors.
