Just over four months after the MIUI 10 Custom ROM was announced in China, Xiaomi has commenced the roll out of MIUI 10 Stable ROM on the Mi 6 and Redmi Note 5 Pro. The Redmi Note 5 Pro is India’s own version of the Redmi Note 5 that was announced earlier this year. The disclosure of commencement of MIUI 10 Global stable on the Redmi Note 5 Pro was made by Xiaomi India’s head, Manu Jain via Twitter. While that of XIaomi’s 2017 flagship Mi 6 was announced on the MIUI forum.

The new Custom ROM is available for download from Mi India website. On the other hand, the Mi 6 will get its own update via OTA push. The new ROM will also be available for download on the MIUI forum.

Although Google has announced Android Pie, MIUI 10 is based on Android 8.0 Oreo. It has as its biggest upgrade the AI technology. The AI technology on MIUI 10 brings deep learning and thus reduces the loading time of apps by studying your app usage behaviour and anticipating actions. Another advantage is that MIUI 10 brings single camera bokeh mode to old Xiaomi smartphones including Xiaomi Mi 5 and Xiaomi Mi Note 2. The custom ROM also comes with a new driving mode, smart home gadgets manager and other features in addition to the existing features of MIUI 9 and Android Oreo.

After teasing the Red edition of the Redmi smartphone in India, Xiaomi has today officially launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro Red Edition. With this, the phone is now available in five color options in India — Black, Blue, Gold, Rose Gold, and Red.

Currently, the Redmi Note 5 Pro Red Edition is now available for purchase on Xiaomi’s Mi.com and will soon be available through online marketplace Flipkart. The 4GB RAM model costs Rs. 14,999 (approximately $211) while the 6GB RAM variant is priced at Rs. 16,999, which roughly converts to $239.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro features a 5.99-inch Full-HD+ display that offers a screen resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels with a 2.5D curved glass on top. Under the hood, it is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 636 processor with 4GB/6GB RAM. It packs 64GB of internal storage and comes with a microSD card slot, enabling users to expand the storage capacity.

For photography, there’s a dual camera setup on the backside of the Redmi Note 5, featuring a 12-megapixel Sony IMX486 primary sensor with a pixel size of 1.25μm and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor from Samsung with a pixel size of 1.12μm for capturing depth information.

On the front side, the phone comes equipped with a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 camera sensor with LED flash and Beautify 4.0 for capturing AI-driven beautified photos. The company has also introduced the AI-based Face Unlock feature.

Xiaomi has teased a new Red colored variant for its Redmi-series smartphone tomorrow. While the company has not confirmed which phone will get the Red Edition, it’s likely to be the Redmi Note 5 Pro. The company will officially announce this tomorrow at 10:00 AM.

In China, the Flame Red color for the Redmi Note 5 (Redmi Note 5 Pro in India) was launched in June. Currently, in India, the company is selling Redmi Note 5 Pro in four colors — Black, Blue, Gold, and Rose Gold.

Alongside the new flagship Mi 8, Xiaomi has also announced the latest iteration of its Android personalization: MIUI 10. The Chinese version of the new UI is currently in beta testing phase and it is slowly expanding to all eligible Xiaomi phones. Guys from XDA Developers have just discovered that the MIUI 10 Chinese beta allows recording videos in 1080p resolution with 60 fps on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro.

The feature is kinda rare on mid-range phones sold under $200 as they can usually record in 1080p at 30 fps at max. Note that after rooting the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro it is even possible to record videos in 4K, but it is not an official features like the one contained in the latest MIUI 10 beta. Given that Xiaomi has added the option to record videos in 1080p at 60 fps in the Chinese Beta ROM, it is likely that we will see it in the global beta and in the final stable update. And there is also a chance that the company may add 4K video recording at 30 fps as well, given that the hardware side of this device would allow doing it.

The new Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is the first handset from the Redmi Note series which features a dual camera setup on its rear side. It is composed of a primary sensor with a resolution of 12 MP and a f/2.2 aperture, and a 5 MP secondary sensor with a f/2.0 aperture. The front camera has a 20 MP resolution, a f/2.2 aperture and it is also equipped with a LED flash. Under the hood, the mid-ranger features an octa-core Snapdragon 636 chipset by Qualcomm running at a max frequency of 1.8 GHz. It is currently available in two configurations with 4 or 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage which you can expand with a micro SD up to 256 GB.

As the SoC is the same, there will not be a big difference between the speeds of these two mid-rangers, but at least in the most expensive variant, the Z5 will provide more space for your files and apps. On the other hand, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with MIUI 9 (which will soon update to MIUI 10), and we define it a better user interface than the Z5’s ZUI 4.0, as it has more advanced additional features.

Camera

If we talk about the camera department, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro should be a better handset. There are still no camera samples from the Lenovo Z5 so we still cannot say it for sure, but Redmi Note 5 Pro manages to capture very much detail and natural colors. Further, it has a stunning 20 MP front camera which is also equipped with a LED flash, so besides being a good camera phone, it is also a perfect selfie phone. However, we do not expect to be disappointed with the camera performance of Lenovo Z5 which also supports AI.

Battery

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro has a monster 4000 mAh battery which is able to last up to two days even with a stressed use. It is very good not only due to its big capacity but also because Snapdragon 636 provides a low energy consumption. Lenovo Z5 has a standard 3300 mAh unit which should make it to the end of the day, but it should not surprise anyone. Both the devices feature a fast charging technology, so you do not have to worry about charging times.

Price

In the base configuration with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB ROM, Lenovo Z5 has been launched (in China) with a price tag of about $202. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro’s launch price in China is about $218 in the version with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. With these prices, it is hard to decide who wins the comparison. If you care about design and performance, then go for the Lenovo Z5. But if the camera and battery life are your main concern, then Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is the winner.

Even portrait mode on both the cameras are excellent. Realme 1’s AI front and back cameras do have bokeh mode, but it’s based on software and are not really that good. Note that Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro also has a bigger battery and it lasts more on a single charge.

Xiaomi released the brand new Mi 6X model a few hours ago and it’s everything that we hoped for. The phone, likely to be rebranded as the Xiaomi Mi A2 with stock Android on board for the international markets, could be one of the fastest mid-rangers in the market right now, powered by the mighty Snapdragon 660. We often believed that the SD660 wasn’t used to its full potential, but inside the Mi 6X, the phone could be an instant hit. That doesn’t mean the new model isn’t without flaws, and your purchase decision will eventually depend upon what you are willing to sacrifice for the added CPU and camera performance.

Having said that, we realized that the Xiaomi Mi 6X is priced very close to the Redmi Note 5 Pro in China. Last year, this wasn’t an issue with the Mi 5X, since the Redmi Note 4 didn’t have a separate Pro model. The Mi 5X was an independent offering from Xiaomi in its segment and that definitely helped in its sales. But this year, things are different with the Xiaomi Mi 6X and the Redmi Note 5 Pro (known simply as the Redmi Note 5 in China) priced very close to each other.

Xiaomi Mi 6X vs Redmi Note 5 Pro: Design

On first glance, you might say both the phones look alike as their basic dimensions and design are quite similar. But they have quite a lot of differences too. For example, the Mi 6X looks a lot more premium and polished than the RN5Pro. This is because of its curved back and the U shaped antenna lines. On the other hand, the Redmi model features a traditional design, similar to other Note series phones. The Mi 6X is also significantly thinner and lighter. Also, it comes in a fresh Red color option which isn’t found on the Redmi Note 5 Pro. However, unlike the RN5Pro the Mi 6X doesn’t have a dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack.

With the increase in smartphone storage, less customers use MicroSD card slots these days. Also, there’s a decent Type-C adapter as an alternative to the headphone jack. In short, these shortcomings of the Xiaomi Mi 6X can be forgiven for the increased CPU and camera performance that it brings to the table.

This is where things get interesting. The Xiaomi has priced the new Mi 6X quite near the Redmi Note 5 Pro models. To recap, the RN5Pro (RN5 in China) was launched at 1399 Yuan (~$221) for the 4+64GB model and 1699 Yuan ($268) for the 6+64GB model. The same storage 4+64GB and 6+64GB configurations can be availed on the Xiaomi Mi 6X for a price of 1599 yuan (~$253) and 1799 Yuan (~$284) respectively.

As you can see, there’s just a 100-200 yuan difference between these two devices. Even with a price cut for the Redmi Note 5 Pro model, it would still be a hard decision to choose it over the Mi 6X.

Despite its support for older devices, Xiaomi is usually slower than other smartphones manufacturers at bringing the latest Android versions on its devices. On the other hand, with its user interface MIUI, there isn’t much need for the latest Android iterations as it is full of additional features and improvements. Anyways, in the recent months, the company seems to be getting faster at releasing major updates, and this may happen even with Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, even though it is not a flagship device.

The mid-ranger focused on the quality-price ratio is still running a ROM based on Android Nougat. It is actually getting updated to MIUI Global Stable 9.2.7.0 based on Android 7.1.1. But a new firmware has just surfaced online, and it suggests that the phone may switch directly to Android 8.1 Oreo, which is actually the latest OS version. The leaked MIUI 9 Global Stable firmware carries the build number 9.5.6.0.OEIMIFA and according to the official MIUI update schedule it will be officially rolled out starting from this month via OTA. Currently, it is only available to download on MIUI website and it can be manually flashed on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro.

The update to MIUI 9 Global Stable 9.5.6.0.OEIMIFA based on Android 8.1 also brings the support to Project Treble on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. It is a project which tries to solve the fragmentation issue on Android by dividing the OS into two frameworks: one with the core OS and one with the company’s customization. This division will make it easier for the company to release fast updates. The new update also contains VoLTE support.

TWRP is the most famous recovery mode which is mainly used to install custom ROMs on every Android handset. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and Oppo F7 have been compared on the main benchmarking platforms in order to check which one performs better. Before checking the results of the comparison, keep in mind that benchmarks are not meant to evaluate the overall performance of a smartphone. It just tests the hardware. So, do not take benchmarks as a religion and just consider them as a method to evaluate performance on the paper. The handsets have been tested on Geekbench, AnTuTu, 3D Mark and Basemark with very similar performances in most of the tests.

This comparison is very important, not only because they are among the most powerful mid-rangers in the smartphones market, but also because they contain two of the most important chipsets in the mobile market. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is powered by the new octa-core Snapdragon 636 SoC by Qualcomm, composed of 8x Kryo 260 CPUs running at a max frequency of 1.8 GHz and an Adreno 509 GPU. Oppo F7 has the octa-core Helio P60 composed of 4x Cortex A73 cores and 4x Cortex A53 cores running at a max frequency of 2 GHz and a Mali G72 MP3 GPU.

Even though it is not a flagship SoC, Helio P60 is the most important MediaTek chipset released this year, and it will impact a lot on the future of MediaTek in the mobile chipsets market. According to Geekbench, Oppo F7 has slightly better performances than Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, while according to AnTuTu the Redmi Note 5 Pro is way better than its opponent. 3D Mark Ice Storm Unlimited shows a better result for the Oppo F7, while Basemark shows a higher score for Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. Meizu has just announced its second phone with a Qualcomm SoC which could be one of the best-sellers of 2018. This midrange looks like a perfect rival of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, the new affordable Xiaomi handset which already had huge success in Asia. So, the Redmi Note 5 Pro will probably shoot better selfies and it will last much more on a single charge, even though Meizu E3 will still offer a great battery life due to its power-efficient chipset. Meizu E3 will charge a lot faster thanks to its lower battery capacity and the mCharge 3.0 technology which is able to reach 53% of charge in just 30 minutes.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is priced about $218 in its 4/64 GB configuration and about $265 in the 6/128 GB, while Meizu E3 costs $315 in the 6/64 GB version and $395 in its 6/128 GB variant. Note that these are the Indian prices, the handset are not in the global market yet. With the actual prices, you would better go for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro for its higher value for money, unless you care a lot about the main camera department. But this does not mean that the E3 is a worse device.

The Redmi Note 5 line-up has been released with different names in the two best markets for Xiaomi: India, and China. In the Indian peninsula, the handset has been announced in two variants: Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. The standard variant is just a re-branded Redmi 5 Plus for the Indian market, while the Pro version is the real new phone. In China, the standard Note 5 is the Redmi 5 Plus, while the Note 5 Pro has been called Redmi Note 5. But keep in mind that it comes with two differences: a slightly different rear camera setup and a better version of the software based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

Well, now there is good news for the owners of the Indian Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. A new firmware is available to download for this handset, and it is exactly the same firmware as the Chinese Note 5, based on Android 8.1 Oreo. It is not an OTA update but a firmware leaked on XDA Developers. But it is the MIUI 9.5 China Stable ROM and not a random beta firmware. Besides bringing the Android version number to 8.1 Oreo, this update brings the Project Treble support. According to XDA Developers, a member of their forums has tested the firmware through the Project Treble check app and found out that it is compatible with Project Treble.

In case you do not know, Project Treble can make the code of the Android operating system modular, allowing manufacturers to work directly and exclusively on certain parts of code instead of working on the entire operating system. This makes a lot easier to release software updates, which will be faster and more constant. Only a limited number of smartphones are actually compatible with Project Treble, and now Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro has joined the club. Now, even Xiaomi is replacing the Home key and capacitive key with on-screen gestures which seem like the ones supported by the iPhone X.

After enabling them on Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus and Mi Mix 2, the Chinese company has rolled out a Beta update in order to enable them on the new Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro as well. We are referring to the MIUI 9.5 Global Beta update, which can only be installed by users who joined the beta testing phase. It is not a stable update, so it is not suitable for daily use as it may contain bugs.

But if you install it, you will be able to use the iPhone X-like gestures on your Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. There are three basic gestures included in this update. It is possible to swipe up from the bottom of the screen to go Home from apps or other menus. You can swipe up till the center of the screen to open the recent apps tray, and you can swipe from the left edge or right edge of the screen to go back. Each of the Android capacitive keys present on previous Xiaomi midrangers has been replaced by gestures.

Last month, Xioami launched its latest phones in the Indian market — Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro. At the time of launch, the devices were launched in two color variants — Midnight Black and Gold.

Recently, it was revealed that the company could launch a new color option, Lake Blue. As it turns out, the company is introducing two new color variants for both devices — Lake Blue and Rose Gold. These both new color options have been listed on online retailer Flipkart as well as company’s official online store.

Further, in a response to a comment on Facebook, the company has promised some surprise in the upcoming sale on 7th March. This hints that the company could start selling all four color models of the phone from 7th March in India.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro went on sale in India for the first time on 22nd February. According to the company, it sold 300,000 units of the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro in under 3 minutes.

While the Redmi Note 5 series is currently available in India only, Xiaomi’s Product Marketing Director Zang Zhiyuan had recently confirmed that the company would be launching the Redmi Note 5 in China in March. It has now been confirmed that the devices will be will be unveiled in China on March 16th.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, which is the successor to the Redmi Note 4 — is priced at Rs 9,999 for the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant and Rs 11,999 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB variant. On the other hand, the Redmi Note 5 Pro costs Rs 13,999 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB variant and Rs 16,999 for the 6GB RAM and 64GB ROM option.

The Redmi Note 5 is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 625 processor and features a 12-megapixel rear camera with a f/2.2 aperture along with an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The Redmi Note 5 Pro packs Snapdragon 636 processor and features dual camera setup of a 12-megapixel Sony IMX486 sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. On the front side, it features a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 camera sensor.

Xiaomi released the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro at an event in India on February 14. The Redmi Note 5 and its co-traveller are already contenders for best mid-rangers in the market presently. Although some are still not happy with the choice of Xiaomi to stick with the Snapdragon 625 chip onboard the Redmi Note 5. However, the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a Snapdragon 636 processor which is almost similar in performance to SD 660, save for a weaker GPU and a few other minor issues.

Another downside for some is the now outdated Android 7.0 Nougat which the devices shipped with. But the Redmi Note 5 Pro may get Android 8.1 Oreo soon and this could bring Project Treble compatibility. This detail was scooped up by XDA Developers while rummaging through the firmware files of a device code-named “whyred.” The device was known to be a Redmi model running global ROM but the real name wasn’t known. The device has now been uncovered as the Redmi Note 5 Pro since it has been launched. A CPU-Z benchmark test as shown in the screenshot below proves that. Also, the firmware is said to run Android 8.1 Oreo. The SDK version is 27 and the release build is 8.1.0 with the January security patches. But what’s most interesting is that the line “ro.treble.enabled” is set to true in the build.prop, which is one of the easiest ways to check for Project Treble compatibility on an official ROM.

In case you don’t know what Project Treble is, it is one of the most important features included in Android 8.0 Oreo. Project Treble separates all the low-level device drivers (known as the ‘vendor implementation’) from the rest of Android. This makes updating phones/tablets to the latest version of Android much easier for manufacturers, as long as they already support Treble. Treble makes it significantly easier to develop custom ROMs for phones, as opposed to ones without the feature. It’s even possible to develop a single system image that works across vastly different devices, as long as they are Treble-compatible. This would make it easier and faster to develop custom ROMs based on newer Android versions going forward. These are just speculations anyway as XDA Developers didn’t get the opportunity to verify by testing the Android Oreo-running Redmi Note 5 Pro hands on.

Xiaomi officially launched the Redmi Note 5 in India on February 14 and along with it came the relatively new Redmi Note 5 Pro. The Redmi Note 5 was Xiaomi’s first full-screen smartphone that featured a dual camera setup. Apart from that, the Redmi Note 5 Pro scored another first, being the first Xiaomi model and indeed the first smartphone globally to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor.

The performance of the Redmi Note 5 Pro has now been revealed and the performance of the CPU is something interesting. According to AnTuTu benchmark result and a couple of other benchmarking apps, the Snapdragon 636 chip onboard the Redmi Note 5 Pro is slightly more powerful than the flagship Snapdragon 820 processor. Snapdragon 636 is designed using the Octa-core Kyro 260 CPU architecture and is built on a 14nm silicon wafer. The mobile processor is clocked at 1.8GHz and is paired with an Adreno 509 GPU. The new processor also comes with support for Bluetooth 5.0. The CPU is composed of four large Cortex A73 cores and four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.6GHz.

Now to the AnTuTu benchmark score, the Redmi Note 5 Pro scored 112,649 while the Mi 5 which runs on a Snapdragon 820 flagship chip scored 128,339 which is very close to the Note 5 Pro’s score. The Redmi Note 5 Pro overall score also surpasses those of the Snapdragon 650-powered Redmi Note 3 and the Snapdragon 625-powered Redmi Note 5 Pro. However, the Snapdragon 660 still remains king of the mid-rangers, pulling a higher score than the SD 636 and SD 820.

From the look of things, the CPU is very powerful but the device’s GPU seems to be deficient as that is what brought down the overall AnTuTu score of the Redmi Note 5 Pro. As a reminder, the Snapdragon 636 chipset comes with the Adreno 509 GPU. In other benchmark tests such as Basemark OS II, Google Octane 2.0 and JetStream 1.1 Java performance test, the Snapdragon 636 is almost on par with the Snapdragon 820 flagship SoC and in some test where the GPU is not tested, it surpasses the SD 820’s score. Thus, the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor holds the potential to be a great SoC but that GPU? Maybe it isn’t too bad after all, but it is a let down for such a powerful mid-range chip.

Nokia 6 has a Full HD display with the 16:9 aspect ratio, while the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro has a Full HD+ panel with 18:9 aspect ratio which makes it better to hold. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro has also a slightly better hardware with its Snapdragon 636 SoC and up to 6 GB RAM, while Meizu M6s and Nokia 6 are similar in terms of performances, even though Nokia 6 is more suitable for multi-tasking because it has 1 GB RAM more.

There are still not enough camera samples to make a decent comparison, but we believe that Nokia 6 may have some value in this sector. In terms of battery life, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro wins with its monster 4000 mAh unit and a power-efficient Snapdragon 636. If you care about always having the latest Android version, you should choose Nokia 6 (2018) as it will probably the first to get the updates (it is already upgradeable to Oreo unlike the other twos).

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro has been launched in India with a price of €176/$218, Meizu M6s can be found at about €152/$185, Nokia 6 (2018) starts from €184/$230 in China. I would personally pick Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro especially for its longer battery life which is one of the most important feature on a mid-ranger. The difference between prices is minimal and in my opinion, it is not worth saving a bunch of dollars to purchase the lower-end Meizu M6s. But you may like the Nokia 6 (2018) if aesthetics are really important for you, as well as software updates and camera performance.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro still commands lots of attention even after its official launch. That is because of the spectacular full-screen design with a dual rear camera setup the Note 5 Pro packs. We’ve brought you the camera samples of the premium device which showed the presence of a powerful dual camera setup that is capable of capturing stunning shots with vivid clarity. Here are a couple of hands-on photos of the mid-ranger which highlights the beautiful design as well as other features.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro looks very much like the Redmi Note 5 when viewed from the front. It features a similar 5.99-inch FHD+ display packing a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. The display is placed under a layer of 2.5D curved glass to provide some bit of protection and aesthetics.

At the rear, the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with an aluminium unibody. One unique feature of the device is the dual rear camera arrangement. The Note 5 Pro packs a camera design which is a replica of the iPhone X rear camera. The camera is stacked vertically with the LED flash sitting between both rear shooters. The main camera is a 13MP sensor which teams up with a 5MP depth of field sensor. While at the front, there is a 20MP Sony IMX376 camera sensor as well as a selfie flashlight. The selfie camera comes with an AI-driven Beautify 4.0.

Another beautiful thing about the device is that it comes with a thin build, just 8.05mm and that makes it the thinnest Redmi series smartphone for now. As a result of the high screen-to-body ratio, the device packs a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and lacks a physical home button under the display. There is also the Face ID technology which brings face unlock to the device.

The device will also be hitting the market in colour options like Black, Gold, Rose Gold and Blue. The device is also competitively priced; starting at Rs. 13,999 ($218) for the 4GB + 64GB variant and Rs. 16,999 ($265) for the 6GB RAM variant. Xiaomi took the wraps off the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro alongside the Mi LED TV 4 on February 14 in India. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro was unarguably the stunner out of the two smartphones launched because this is the first time Xiaomi is unveiling the smartphone. The Redmi Note 5 had earlier been launched in China alongside the Redmi 5 but the Note 5 Pro is meeting with us for the first time. 

The Redmi Note 5 Pro is the first Xiaomi model to feature a full-screen 18:9 design and dual camera. Talking about the cameras, the device comes with a superb combination of 12MP + 5MP sensors at the rear. Apparently, the promotional mantra for the device will be built on the cameras hence Xiaomi dubbed it as “India’s camera beast”. The camera samples for the Redmi Note 5 Pro have not been outed, thanks to GSMArena and they sure show a device with a powerful camera setup.

Let’s closely analyse the photos but before then, here’s the camera configuration. The Redmi Note 5 packs a 12MP primary sensor at the rear with a f/2.2 aperture teaming up with a 5MP camera with a f/2.0 aperture and it is a bokeh camera (depth of field lens). The bokeh effect is well utilised in the sample photo above where the “No Parking Zone” signpost was captured clearly while the surrounding areas were blurred out.

In addition, all the photos seem to come with realistic colours and the detail levels of each photo is pretty impressive. But we are not so impressed with the camera performance /in low-light conditions. The photos come with some level of photographic noise but that isn’t too noticeable except when the picture is zoomed. It may be too early to give the device a positive review but we hope to see a couple of more comprehensive reviews. Meanwhile, here are more sample photos of the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

The most awaited Xiaomi midrangers of the year have been finally announced: Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro. While the second offers important improvements over its predecessors, the first is just a rebranded Redmi 5 Plus for the Indian market. In this Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 vs Redmi Note 5 Pro article, we will compare the specs of these phones and discover if the improvements of the Pro version justify its higher price, or if it is better to just stick to the standard version which is still a solid and reliable mid-ranger.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 vs Redmi Note 5 Pro

The main difference between Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro is in the hardware side and the camera department. Under the hood, the standard version has the widely tested Snapdragon 625 SoC which has been the most used SoC of 2017 in the budget phones sector. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with the new Snapdragon 636 which is more powerful and it has a better connectivity side on the paper, but it still has to be tested deeply as it is a new chipset. Further, the Pro version comes in a configuration with 6 GB of RAM which will offer a better multi-tasking experience compared with the Redmi Note 5 and its 4 GB RAM.

While Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 has a single 12 MP main camera (nothing special, just a normal midrange camera), Redmi Note 5 Pro has a dual camera setup on its rear side, which is composed of a primary sensor that is the same as the Redmi Note 5 and a 5 MP secondary sensor to capture info about depth and make a better bokeh effect. Redmi Note 5 Pro has a better front camera with a resolution of 20 MP, while the Note 5 has an average 5 MP snapper. The rest of the specs is exactly the same, but the price changes. The handsets have just been launched in India with a starting price tag of €125/$155 for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and €176/$218 for the Pro version. In our opinion, the differences justify the price and it is worth buying the Pro version to get better performances and better photos.
