Upcoming Motorola Razr foldable makes its first appearance, launch could be imminent

Motorola recently introduced the Edge 50 Pro smartphone, set to be followed by its pricier counterpart, the Edge 50 Ultra, on April 16th. Looking ahead, Motorola’s next smartphone launches might include the Razr series foldable, allegedly called the Razr Plus 2024.

Details about the upcoming Razr smartphone have been scarce, but some information may have now started to trickle in. A new Motorola smartphone with the model number XT2453-2 has received Radio Certification in China.

The certification doesn’t reveal much about the specifications or the name of the device. However, a previous leak mentioned that the upcoming Motorola Razr has the code number XT-2453-3 for the US version.

Given that the device listed on the Radio Certification has a similar model number to the one mentioned in the leak, we are assuming it could be the Razr Plus 2024. Also, the appearance of XT2453-2 in the certification database suggests that the smartphone’s launch could be imminent.

Moreover, the same leak also revealed the renders (attached above) of the upcoming foldable. Overall, there aren’t many design changes; the phone features a cover display on one half and two camera rings on the top-right, similar to previous Razr models. When unfolded, there’s a tall display with a punch-hole camera in the center for selfies.

As of now, Motorola has yet to announce the official release date and price for the Razr Plus 2024. We will be sure to share updates on any new developments regarding the foldable.

TV manufacturer apparently makes world’s first AI movie. Watch the trailer here!

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been making waves across industries, and the world of video production is no exception. One notable example is OpenAI’s SORA which can generate incredibly good realistic videos.

That said, AI-generated video is still in its early stages and needs time to develop. But there’s an interesting development on the horizon: TCL is gearing up to debut a film featuring characters created using AI

TCL is a major television manufacturer based in China and the world’s second-largest producer of TV sets, holding a 12.5 percent market share. The company ships its TVs with TCLtvPlus streaming service, a free, ad-supported service similar to Samsung TV Plus.

The service includes more than 200 FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television) channels and 1500+ on-demand movies and TV series from major and independent studios such as Scripps Media, Fremantle, NBC Universal, and more.

Now, however, the platform will also feature original shows that leverage AI for tasks such as animating characters.

Recently, TCL released the trailer for its first AI-assisted romantic film, “Next Stop Paris,” featuring AI-generated characters. As expected, the quality is noticeably different from big-budget Hollywood productions.

But I must admit, as one of the first AI-powered movie trailers I’ve seen, it’s quite impressive. There’s definitely room for improvement. But TCL has surprisingly managed to keep things like lighting and fabric details and there are no glaring issues with hand movements too.

However, it’s worth noting that TCL is combining AI animation with motion and audio capture of real actors for the movie. So not everything’s AI here.

AI, at the stage it is right now, cannot independently produce feature-length films of the quality expected by audiences. However, future advancements could pave the way for streaming services to generate entirely AI-driven content

For those willing to see TCL’s upcoming romantic special, you need to buy a TCL TV before this summer.

Microsoft is testing ads disguised as “Recommendations” in Windows 11

Microsoft recently rolled out a fresh update (KB5037000) for Windows 11 Insiders in the Beta Channel. Alongside introducing new interactive elements for Windows Spotlight, the update also comes with a not-so-welcome tweak: more app recommendations (that essentially are ads) in the Start menu.

These recommendations pop up in the Start menu’s “Recommended” section and will show apps from the Microsoft Store based on your recent app usage. This means you might encounter app suggestions that don’t quite match your interests.

Currently, the Start menu organizes apps into “Pinned” and “Recommendations” sections. The latter usually includes recently used files or apps, newly installed applications, and even tips for utilizing new Windows features.

Now, with the latest update, recommendations from the Microsoft Store have been added, giving off an ad-like vibe.

While these recommended apps might not directly come from app developers paying for placement, Microsoft does earn revenue from apps distributed through its store. Thus, from a user’s perspective, it can still feel like advertising.

Microsoft-Store

There is some good news, however. You can disable the feature entirely. Simply head to Settings > Personalization > Start and turn off the toggle for “Show recommendations for tips, app promotions, and more.”

Additionally, this change currently only affects Insiders in the Beta Channel and on personal devices, meaning work computers (often managed by organizations) are not impacted for now.

Most importantly, Microsoft hasn’t confirmed if this feature will make it to the final release of Windows 11. The company is using the Insider program to gather feedback, and based on user response, they may decide to scrap the idea altogether.

Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 5G, Phantom V Flip 2 5G EEC certified, launching soon

Tecno launched the Phantom V Fold, its first foldable phone, at the beginning of 2023. In the second half of the year, it launched its first clamshell-style foldable phone, the Phantom V Flip. We have entered the second quarter of the year 2024 and there has been no announcement on the successor edition of the Phantom V Fold. However, a new development suggests that the company could be working on the second-generation Phantom V Fold and V Flip phones.

Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 5G, Phantom V Flip 2 5G monikers spotted

Tecno Phantom V Fold 2, V Flip 2 5G EEC
Tecno Phantom V Fold 2, V Flip 2 5G EEC certified

The above screenshot shows that the Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 5G bears the AE10 model number and the Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 5G is identified with the AE11 model number. To recall, the Phantom V Fold and V Flip from last year have AD10 and AD11 model numbers, respectively.

While the EEC certification hints that the brand is working on the Phantom V Fold 2 and V Flip 2, concrete details about their specifications haven’t appeared yet. Interestingly, the AE10 model was spotted on Geekbench in January and February of this year, whereas the AE11 appeared on the same platform in February. The listings indicated that both models feature the Dimensity 9000+ and Dimensity 8050 chipsets, respectively.

To recall, the D9000+ and D8050 chipsets power the first-generation Phantom V Fold and V Flip, respectively. It is unlikely that the brand will use the same chip to power the successor models. Hence, it appears that there could be some discrepancies in the Geekbench listings of Phantom V Fold 2 and V Flip 2. Therefore, it is advisable to wait for further reports to learn about these devices.

Black Shark Teases New Smart Ring with 180-day Battery Life & Intelligent Touch

Black Shark is getting into the wearable tech market with their new “Black Shark Ring”. This ring is designed to be “healthy and fashionable” with features like “one-handed control” and “intelligent touch”. Black Shark has been teasing the upcoming release of this ring, highlighting its health monitoring capabilities. The Black Shark Ring will reportedly track heart rate, blood oxygen, HRV (heart rate variability), and body temperature.

The company claims their Smart Ring can last 180 days on a single charge

The smart ring itself is described as sleek and comfortable. It boasts a silver color scheme and an ultra-thin 2.2mm profile for a “comfortable and non-feeling wearing” experience. Black Shark claims the ring will last a lengthy 180 days on a single charge thanks to the included charging compartment. Even the charging compartment looks sleek, with the ring resting on the same. There is a tiny LED light towards the front of the charging case to indicate if the ring is charging or charged. Pretty neat design overall.

While a release date hasn’t been announced, Black Shark is clearly building anticipation for their new wearable. We are officially entering the era where smart rings might become mainstream. In a lot of ways, it is way less intrusive than a smartwatch, since smart rings are great for people who do not want to add another screen to their already screen-occupied day. We’ll see how other companies follow up – Samsung is already finishing up their Galaxy Ring and we’re excited to see what it brings.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 makes its appearance ahead of expected July launch

Samsung is expected to hold its second Galaxy Unpacked event of the year in July, with rumors pointing to the unveiling of foldable phones like the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6, alongside a mysterious Galaxy Ring.

The event might also see the launch of the Galaxy Watch 7 series, the successor to last year’s Watch 6 lineup.

Ahead of the rumored launch, an upcoming Samsung smartwatch with model number SM-L305U has appeared on the Bluetooth SIG certification website.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 Bluetooth SIG Certification

While the listing doesn’t confirm the smartwatch’s moniker, it is believed to be the Galaxy Watch 7. It confirms the wearable will support Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. This isn’t a surprising revelation, as Bluetooth 5.3 is the latest commercially available version of the technology and was also present in the Galaxy Watch 6.

Unfortunately, the Bluetooth SIG certification doesn’t reveal much beyond the connectivity details. However, reports from SamMobile suggest that the SM-L305U model corresponds to the 40mm variant of the Watch 7 with LTE connectivity for the US market.

More interestingly, the report also claims that the Galaxy Watch 7 might see a storage upgrade to 32GB, doubling the capacity offered by its predecessor.

Moreover, a rumor last month revealed that the Galaxy Watch 7 series will have three models. The company has only launched two models in the Galaxy Watch line thus far, so this is an interesting shift in strategy.

With the rumored launch window still a few months away, we can expect more leaks and information to surface regarding the Galaxy Watch 7 series. Rest assured, we’ll keep you informed about any new information that comes our way.

Oppo Reno 12, Vivo S19, Huawei Nova 13, and Honor 200 series to launch in June, suggests tipster

A recent rumor surrounding the Oppo Reno 12 series suggested that the company might launch the series in May 2024. But now, a well-known tipster, Digital Chat Station, has chimed in, revealing that the Reno 12 series is likely to debut sometime in June instead.

But the tipster spilled the beans on other smartphone series launches as well. According to DCS, along with Reno 12, the Vivo S19 series, Huawei Nova 13 series, and Honor 200 series smartphones will also launch in June.

All of the series from different brands are mid-range tier smartphones. So there seems to be intense competition. Details regarding the Vivo S19 and Huawei Nova 13 remain scarce, so we will need further leaks or official announcements for clarification.

The Honor 200 Lite, however, has already been spotted on the TDRA certification website, hinting at an imminent launch. While specifications are unknown, the “Lite” moniker suggests a budget-friendly entry within the Honor 200 series.

Shifting focus to the Oppo Reno 12 series, previous leaks suggest the phones will boast AI-powered features and a periscope telephoto camera. The top model could potentially sport the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or even the flagship 8 Gen 3 chipset.

It’s important to note that this information is based on leaks and speculation. With June still a ways off, manufacturers have ample time to adjust their release schedules or refine device specifications. We can expect a clearer picture to emerge in the coming weeks as we inch closer to the proposed launch window.
