Reliance Jio is working on Bharat GPT to rival ChatGPT

India appears to have taken Sam Altman‘s remark about Indian startups’ ability to replicate ChatGPT seriously as Reliance Jio, under the leadership of Akash Ambani, is forging ahead in the tech industry with two major initiatives: Bharat GPT and a new TV operating system. The announcement was made during Techfest at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B), showcasing Reliance Jio’s continuous innovation and collaboration with IIT-B since 2014.

Bharat GPT, developed as a potential competitor to ChatGPT, is a large-scale language model tailored to India’s diverse needs. Jio plans to implement artificial intelligence (AI) across its wide range of products and services. Ambani highlighted that AI would not be confined to a single area within Jio but would spread across the company’s entire spectrum of products and services. This approach indicates a significant shift towards AI-driven solutions, emphasizing Jio’s strategy to be a forerunner in AI application across multiple domains.

In addition to Bharat GPT, Jio is also developing its own television operating system. This move is seen as a strategic step to enter the competitive TV OS market, which is currently dominated by Android TV OS. The details about whether Jio’s TV OS will be entirely proprietary or based on AOSP (Android Open Source Project) remain unclear. However, this development signals Jio’s ambition to expand its technological footprint beyond telecommunications and into consumer electronics, particularly in the rapidly evolving smart TV segment.

Ambani’s confidence in India’s market potential and AI growth is evident. He envisions India as a primary hub for innovation over the next decade and anticipates the country’s economy reaching USD 6 trillion by 2030.

Furthermore, Jio is prioritizing the provision of customized 5G private networks and aims to offer a comprehensive 5G stack to enterprises of all sizes.

China’s Xiaomi Unveils its First Electric Car – The Xiaomi SU7

In an event today, Xiaomi has finally taken the wraps off its highly anticipated first electric car, the SU7. Positioned as a “C-class high-performance ecological technology sedan,” the SU7 boasts a sleek design, impressive performance, and cutting-edge technology.

During the launch event, Xiaomi’s founder Lei Jun emphasized that the company aims to build a car that stands the test of time. They envision the SU7 looking good today and even ten and fifty years from now.

So to achieve this, Xiaomi has assembled a top-notch design team consisting of industry experts from Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Additionally, Xiaomi also brought in Chris Bangle, a world-renowned car designer, as a consultant to add finesse to the SU7.

Xiaomi SU7 Design

No surprises then, Xiaomi’s first electric vehicle (EV) looks really good. The SU7 features a carefully crafted silhouette with a long wheelbase (3000mm) and short overhangs, reminiscent of a sporty coupe. Its water drop-shaped headlights and 2.48m halo-shaped taillights further add a touch of futuristic flair.

There’s more to the car’s sleek exterior though. It features clever design choices like semi-hidden door handles and a stylish, pebble-shaped rearview mirror. And, according to Xiaomi, the SU7 is also incredibly aerodynamic, with a drag coefficient of only 0.195 Cd, the lowest among production vehicles.

Dimension-wise, the car stretches an impressive 4997mm long, 1440mm high, and 1963mm wide. Lei Jun compared its spaciousness to a BMW 5 Series, highlighting that it’s a full-size class car that sits above the popular Tesla Model 3. It has a sizeable 105-liter frunk and boot space with 517 liters.

The SU7 comes in two variants: the regular version and the Max version. The car is available in three colors: Aqua Blue, Verdant Green (which, ahem, I happen to be crushing on hard), and Mineral Gray, each representing a different facet of nature.

What’s undeniable here is the effort Xiaomi has put into creating its first EV. I think the Xiaomi SU7 will leave a lasting impression.

Performance & Technology

The SU7 comes in two variants: the regular and the Max version. The Max boasts a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that delivers a jaw-dropping 673 horsepower and a blistering 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 2.78 seconds. The top speed is at an impressive 265km/h. The regular version, while still powerful, offers a single-motor rear-wheel drive setup with a 5.28-second 0-100 km/h time.

Xiaomi SU7 electric car speed

The Max version shines with its 800km CLTC range, thanks to its 101kWh CATL Kirin battery. Super fast charging is also on tap, with 220km of range gained in just 5 minutes and 510km in 15 minutes.

On stepping inside the SU7, you’ll be greeted with a spacious and luxurious cabin with a panoramic view thanks to the expansive 5.35㎡ glass area. A 16.1-inch touchscreen, a 56-inch HUD, and a 7.1-inch instrument cluster keep you informed and entertained. Likewise, the 25-speaker sound system with Dolby Atmos ensures immersive audio enjoyment.

Xiaomi SU7 electric car interior

Xiaomi hasn’t compromised on safety either. The SU7 boasts an armored cage-type steel-aluminum hybrid body, 7 airbags, and a quadruple braking safety mechanism. The car also comes with a comprehensive suite of active safety features, including automatic emergency braking, and has achieved 5-star safety ratings.

Xiaomi is also emphasizing SU7’s integration of technology and ecology. The car is equipped with the latest Xiaomi HyperOS system, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip. As a result, you will be able to enjoy seamless software connectivity features like mirroring your phone or tablet.

The SU7 is also great for those who use Xiaomi Home IoT devices. You can connect and control various smart home gadgets, such as cameras and robot vacuum cleaners, right from the car. While Xiaomi gadgets work best with it (unsurprisingly), Lei Jun says that even with Apple products, users will have a great experience with Xiaomi cars.

Another exciting feature is the car’s self-driving mode called Xiaomi Pilot which is powered by two Nvidia Orin-X chips with 508 TOPs computing power and 1 lidar, 3 radars, 11 HD cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. You can use this mode for highway driving, self-parking, and car summoning features.

Availability and Pricing

The Xiaomi SU7 is still undergoing testing and will officially launch in the first half of 2024. Price details haven’t been revealed yet as well.

At the launch, Lei Jun also expressed ambitious goals for Xiaomi’s automotive venture, aiming to place the company among the top five car manufacturers within the next 15-20 years.

US Court Of Appeals Issues Temporary Pause On Ban Of Apple Watch Series 9 And Ultra 2 Sales

If you have been keeping up with the news, you might be aware that Apple is banned from selling the Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 in the US. This is because of the patent infringement case slapped on the company by health tech brand Masimo. Now, the Cupertino-based tech giant has been granted a temporary pause on the ban of the sale of smartwatches by a US Court of Appeals.

Apple Watch sales ban lifted for a temporary period

Apple Watch Series 9

The US Court of Appeals court has issued a pause on the temporary ban on the sale of Apple Watch Series 9 and the Watch Ultra 2. Apple had made an emergency filing to the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit to halt the order issued by the US International Trade Commission. The ITC had declared that Apple violated patents related to pulse oximetery technology of medical tech company Masimo. This has been found on Apple Watch Series 6 models and later. However, only the latest-generation Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 are affected due to the patent infringement dispute.

The interim stay of ITC’s decision will help Apple to navigate the legal process and find a solution. The company will start selling the Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 in the US starting today across both online and offline channels. The temporary lift on the ban on sales is expected to last until mid-January. This will also help Apple to get through the holiday season.

Additionally, US Customs is also expected to take a decision on the sale and import ban of the Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 models by January 12. Apple is working on overcoming the patent dispute with a software fix.

Apple may launch a new Vision Pro featuring RGB OLEDoS in 2027

Apple is reportedly planning to start mass shipments of its Vision Pro headsets in the first week of January, earlier than initially expected, according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. These headsets are expected to be available in stores by the end of January.

Additionally, there are new reports that say Apple is set to release a new model of its mixed reality (MR) device, the Vision Pro, in 2027. This upcoming version will feature RGB OLEDoS (Silicon-based OLED) technology, a significant upgrade from the WOLED (White OLED) with a color filter (CF) used in its current version.

Apple Vision Pro

RGB OLEDoS will provide higher brightness over current WOLED+CF models

RGB OLEDoS technology produces light and color directly from adjacent RGB sub-pixels on a single layer, eliminating the need for a color filter. This results in significantly higher brightness compared to the WOLED+CF OLEDoS technology, which relies on white light filtered through RGB color filters for color generation.

The RGB OLEDoS technology, initially developed for military use by the U.S. company eMagin and now under Samsung Display following an acquisition, represents a significant leap in display technology.

Market research firm Omdia, which revealed these plans, also provided insights into these technologies’ production and market aspects. The current production of WOLED+CF OLEDoS, undertaken by various companies including Sony, faces limitations in yield and capacity. Sony’s OLEDoS production, in particular, has a yield of less than 50%. In contrast, RGB OLEDoS production, though not widespread, offers a brighter and more efficient display technology.

Meta (formerly Facebook) is also in the race to compete with Apple’s Vision Pro headset. Despite CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s skepticism about Apple’s technological breakthroughs, Meta is reportedly exploring various display technologies for its XR devices, including LCoS, OLEDoS, and LEDoS. However, their current offering, the Quest, does not match the capabilities of Apple’s Vision Pro. Meta’s pursuit of competitive MR technology seems to be a longer journey, potentially putting them behind Apple’s advancements in spatial computing.

Samsung, another key player in the XR headset market, is working on its own versions. However, they are not expected to rival Apple’s Vision Pro in the near future, highlighting the tech giant’s leading position in the MR technology space.

Luckily, a recent leak has offered insights into the expected pricing of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

Galaxy S24 Series Pricing Revealed

The European prices for the Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ (Plus), and Galaxy S24 Ultra have been revealed. According to the reports, the starting price for the company’s upcoming flagship models will be €899. This price is for the base model with 128 GB, while the top-tier S24 Ultra will be priced at €1,569. Additionally, there will be a 1TB version of the phone, but its price has not been revealed yet.

The prices for the 15 Plus are €1,049, €1,249 for the 15 Pro, and €1,449 for the 15 Pro Max. Samsung to unveil Bespoke Jet Bot Combo robot vacuum cleaner at CES 2024

Samsung has announced the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo, a robot vacuum cleaner that integrates mopping, steam cleaning, and advanced AI features for a potentially more automated cleaning experience. The device will be showcased at CES 2024, with potential availability following soon after.

The Jet Bot Combo leverages a 3D sensor and AI to navigate efficiently, recognizing objects, spaces, and even stains. This allows it to adapt its cleaning strategy for each room, potentially recommending no-go zones for obstacles or sensitive areas.

Samsung Bespoke Jet Bot Combo robot vacuum cleaner.

For stubborn messes, the robot employs a unique trick: it returns to its docking station to heat up its mop pads. Armed with hot water, steam, and a high-speed scrub (170 rotations per minute), it tackles tough stains without harsh chemicals or manual intervention.

Floor type isn’t a problem either. The Jet Bot Combo automatically adjusts its settings based on the surface it encounters, preventing carpet soaking and ensuring optimal cleaning for each material. It even lifts or retracts its mop pads to avoid unwanted dampness on sensitive surfaces.

Keeping things hygienic is another area where the Jet Bot Combo shines. Its self-cleaning system employs a three-step process of washing, steam sterilization, and hot air drying for the mop pads, minimizing odor and maintaining cleanliness.

While the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo’s performance and effectiveness remain to be seen in real-world scenarios, its integration of AI-powered features and additional cleaning functionalities suggests a potential shift towards more autonomous and efficient home cleaning solutions. As aforementioned, CES 2024 will offer the first glimpse of this robot, with a potential market launch to follow.

Samsung Galaxy M15 to house a 6,000mAh battery

According to a reliable source, Samsung is working on the Galaxy M15. It is expected to be a rebranded version of Galaxy A15.

The current-gen Galaxy M14 is the same as the Galaxy A14. However, that won’t be the case with the upcoming M series phone.

Samsung Galaxy M14

Galaxy M15 to feature a larger battery than Galaxy A15’s

GalaxyClub notes that the Galaxy M15 will house a 6,000mAh battery. For comparison, the Galaxy A15 has a smaller 5,000mAh unit.

At present, it is not certainly known whether the M series phone will have a different chip. If it has the same MediaTek Dimensity 6100 Plus chipset, the device should theoretically offer better endurance than the A series model

Unfortunately, the source has nothing else to say about this forthcoming handset. We are looking forward to learning more about it in the coming days.

Galaxy A15 Specifications

As far as the Galaxy A15 is concerned, it looks like any other Samsung smartphone with a flat frame and vertically aligned cameras. It comes with a ‘key island’, a raised platform for power and volume buttons.

The device flaunts a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with a dewdrop notch. The panel has a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels (FHD+), a 90Hz refresh rate, and an 800 nits peak brightness level.

On the software front, the handset ships with One UI 6 based on Android 14. It is guaranteed to receive four generations of Android updates and 5 years of security updates.

The phone has a 13MP selfie camera and a triple camera system on the rear. The setup includes a 50MP primary sensor, a 5MP ultrawide unit, and a 2MP macro snapper.

The device arrives with all the essentials, such as a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a MicroSD card slot. Lastly, it carries support for 25W wired charging.

Vivo X100s specifications tipped, may feature Dimensity 9300 SoC

Vivo unveiled the X100 and X100 Pro smartphones in China back in November. Both the phones boast a powerful Dimensity 9300 chip and a curved-edge OLED display. While the lineup currently features two devices for now, we have also been hearing rumors about a more affordable Vivo X100s.

Today, tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo has shed some light on the X100s’ alleged specs. If the rumors are true, the X100s will be quite similar to its curved sibling, except for the display. It’s expected to sport a 6.78-inch BOE 8T OLED panel with a 1.5K resolution and a likely 120Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, the X100s is tipped to pack the same Dimensity 9300 chip as the Vivo X100. It’ll also likely come with a generous 5,000mAh battery with fast charging support, possibly at 120W or even 80W.

In the camera department, the X100s is rumored to have a triple-lens setup on the back. The main sensor could be a 50-megapixel Sony IMX920 with optical image stabilization (OIS), joined by a 50-megapixel Samsung JN1 ultrawide lens and a 64-megapixel OmniVision OV64B periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. No word on the selfie camera yet, but it might inherit the X100’s 32-megapixel front-facing shooter.

Vivo X100 and X100 Pro

Besides this, Vivo is also expected to launch an X100 Pro+ smartphone. It will be the top-of-the-line variant in the lineup, expected to come with a whopping 200MP periscope telephoto lens which is said to support 200x digital zoom.

As for the launch, Vivo is expected to hold an event in China sometime in the first quarter of 2024 where it might announce the Vivo X100s. The X100 Pro+ smartphone might also debut alongside it, but if we go by previous report, the company may announce the smartphone in the second quarter of 2024.
