X Users can Now Communicate with Fellow Users via Audio and Video Calls

X, which many remember as Twitter, has added a new feature: audio and video calls. This wasn’t a complete surprise. Linda Yaccarino, the CEO, mentioned this change in August. The goal seems clear: under Elon Musk, X wants to offer more and more features in one app.

This feature might need some tweaking before it becomes perfect to use

When you open the app now, you might see a message saying “Audio and Video calls are here!” For those who like to call directly, this could be good news. But there’s a detail that’s causing concern. The call feature is turned on by default. If you don’t want people from X calling you, you have to go to the settings in your Direct Messages and turn it off. There’s a small gear symbol that shows you where to do this. You can also choose who can call you: maybe only verified accounts or just your followers.

X Twitter

However, X has had some problems in the past, especially with keeping things peaceful for everyone. This makes people worry about the new call feature being on by default. If you don’t know about this feature and suddenly get a call from someone you don’t want to talk to, that’s not a good feeling.

X’s new feature might be trying to offer more to its users. But the way it’s been added might not be the best choice. It’s important that features make things easier for users, not harder or confusing. Only time will tell how this turns out for the users, but considering X’s track record, users will always be skeptical of the update at first. What do you think? Does it seem like an update you would be interested in? Share with us in the comments below.

Snapdragon Reaches 3 Billion Devices Milestone, But MediaTek Still Leads in Market Share

Competition in the mobile processor market continues to intensify. Companies like Qualcomm, Samsung, and MediaTek are fiercely competing to have their chips used by more manufacturers and become the top choice for users. However, one company stands out as the first preference of Android enthusiasts. Of course, we’re talking about Qualcomm, with its Snapdragon series, which appears in every phone, from entry-level to flagship models. Recently, the company announced an increase in the number of devices powered by Snapdragon chips. Here are the details…

Snapdragon Chips Power Everything from Smartphones to Smartwatches, and Qualcomm Has Surpassed 3 Billion Devices

Qualcomm has proudly announced that over 3 billion devices are now running on Snapdragon chips. This remarkable achievement is no coincidence. The company has maintained a consistent track record of introducing new Snapdragon chips that bring enhanced performance, energy efficiency, and cutting-edge features. As a result, the popularity of Snapdragon chips has grown across various devices, including smartphones, tablets, wearables, and beyond.

Qualcomm

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors are used in many of the world’s most popular smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy S series, the Google Pixel series, and the OnePlus series. They are also used in many flagship smartphones from Chinese brands such as Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo.

In addition to smartphones, Snapdragon processors are also used in a variety of other devices, such as tablets, laptops, wearables, and connected cars. For example, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is a powerful chipset that is used in Windows 11 laptops. And the Snapdragon Wear 5100+ is a popular chipset for smartwatches.

Also one such technology is Snapdragon Seamless, which is designed to break down the barriers between devices and operating systems. “Snapdragon Seamless is a truly user-centric solution that will enable seamless experiences across multiple devices,” said Dino Bekis, vice president and general manager of wearables and mixed signal solutions at Qualcomm Technologies.

However, if you were to ask whether the 3 billion devices achieved as a result of all this effort are sufficient, the answer is no. Qualcomm is still trailing behind MediaTek in the mobile processor market share. Of course, price is one of the most important factors here, but it doesn’t change the fact that the company remains in second place.

Samsung Could Produce Exynos 2500 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 with 1.4nm, 2nm Technology

While many of us may know Samsung for its consumer electronics products like smartphones and televisions, the company is much more than that. This South Korean tech giant has various departments responsible for producing displays, batteries, and, importantly, manufacturing chips. What’s impressive is that they excel in this aspect as well.

For instance, Samsung Foundry was the first company globally to introduce and commercially offer a 3nm chip fabrication technology. However, progress in technology never stands still, and Samsung claims that including themselves, will soon launch chips made using their 1.4nm and 2nm technology. Here are the details…

Samsung Foundry Claims Multiple Firms Will Launch Chips Made Using Its 1.4nm, 2nm Tech,

Samsung Foundry has been making significant advancements in semiconductor manufacturing technology. The company is now aiming to take chip fabrication technology even further with 1.4nm and 2nm processes. At the Semiconductor Expo 2023 event held in South Korea, the CTO of Samsung Foundry, Jeong Ki-tae, revealed that the company is already in discussions with major chip clients regarding the utilization of 1.4nm and 2nm processes.

Furthermore, Samsung Foundry is working on a second-generation 3nm chip fabrication process. This technology is expected to be used in the production of chips like the Exynos 2500 and potentially the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which could be available as early as late 2024. Of course, it’s worth mentioning that Samsung is not the only company working on this matter.

Many competitors, including TSMC, are also working to improve their production lines and produce the most powerful chips in a similar fashion. Nevertheless, the South Korean tech giant is doing its best to stay ahead, especially considering that the company’s profit margin has dropped by nearly 70% in the last quarter. This is quite significant.

Microsoft Azure Revenue Surpasses $56.5 Billion in Q3, Helping Company Beat Wall Street Expectations

We’re almost at the end of 2023, and while many of us are preparing for the new year, it’s also the time for the business world to look back on what they’ve achieved and take appropriate steps in the final quarter of the year. In line with this, we previously mentioned that several companies, including Spotify, have released their Q3 2023 reports. Most recently, Microsoft announced its quarterly earnings after the closing bell on Tuesday, surpassing analysts’ expectations in terms of both revenue and earnings. Here are the details…

Microsoft’s Intelligent Cloud Segment Drives Strong Earnings Beat, Azure Revenue Surpasses Expectations

Microsoft has released its Q3 2023 report, and the results are quite impressive. Over the past three months, the company reported a revenue of $56.5 billion, surpassing expert estimates of $54.5 billion. What’s even more noteworthy is that this exceptional performance wasn’t limited to revenue alone; Microsoft also exceeded expectations with its earnings per share. Microsoft’s cloud business, Azure, drove the company’s outstanding performance in the latest quarter.

Azure revenue reached $24.3 billion, beating Wall Street expectations of $23.6 billion. Azure and other cloud services revenue grew 29%, exceeding Wall Street expectations of 27%. Another reason behind the company’s success was its adoption of artificial intelligence technologies. Since the onset of the AI frenzy, the company didn’t hesitate to integrate this technology into its services.

Microsoft, which combined Windows with artificial intelligence through both Bing and CoPilot, thereby increased its market share and revenue. For example they have made substantial investments in the AI sector, including a $10 billion investment in OpenAI, the developer behind ChatGPT.

In addition to their AI initiatives, Microsoft recently made headlines with its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. This landmark deal instantly catapulted Microsoft to become the third-largest video game company globally by revenue, trailing only Tencent and Sony.

Meet the 1341-Horsepower Nissan Hyper Force Concept Electric Car

Nissan dropped something big (and fast) at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show—a concept car called the Hyper Force. If you’re wondering why that matters, it’s because this new vehicle seems a lot like a sneak peek at a future GT-R model. While Nissan isn’t saying much, some hints are hard to ignore.

The concept’s design and features are reminiscent of the iconic GT-R

First, let’s talk design. The Hyper Force looks aggressive. It has four round taillights similar to what you’d find on a GT-R. There’s also a large rear wing and special doors that open upwards, kind of like butterfly wings.

Nissan

Inside, the car feels like a mix between a racing setup and a high-tech office. Forget about the usual round steering wheel; the Hyper Force has one shaped for racing. There are two driving modes: “R” for racing and “GT” for a more relaxed ride. Sound familiar? That’s because GT-Rs also have this feature.

But what makes the Hyper Force special is its electric setup. This concept car comes with a big battery that can deliver an impressive 1,341 horsepower. That’s a lot of power for any car, let alone an electric one. Nissan also mentions an all-wheel-drive system, but they’re keeping other specs under wraps for now.

So, when can we expect this car to hit the roads? Hard to say. The previous GT-R model took six years from concept to market. We’re just hoping it won’t be that long this time. The Hyper Force shows Nissan’s effort to blend their sports car heritage with future tech. Whether this is the next GT-R or not, it’s a big step toward an electric vehicles for the brand.

Toyota’s New FT-Se Concept Electric will Blow your Mind

As 2021 came to a close, Toyota grabbed eyeballs by showcasing an array of electric vehicle (EV) concepts, leaving a lasting impression with their Sports EV. Fast forward to the Japan Mobility Show 2023, and Toyota has once again stunned us, this time with an evolved version of the Sports EV, dubbed the FT-Se.

The FT-Se features a very minimalistic cabin design with fewer switches

Although still wearing its signature vivid orange hue, the FT-Se offers significant visual tweaks. Its exterior now features enormous air intakes and door mirrors and handles, hinting at its functional orientation. The absence of any technical details keeps us guessing, but that might be part of Toyota’s strategy to build anticipation.

Toyota

Interestingly, Toyota’s decision to showcase the FT-Se on a racetrack underlines their vision of a performance-focused EV. This is not just another electric car; this is a car aimed at creating an entirely new breed of sporty, electric vehicles. Equipped with a large fixed wing and a GR emblem, Toyota is essentially putting other automakers on notice—expect more than just green tech, expect exhilarating performance as well.

Stepping inside the FT-Se, one encounters a minimalist yet futuristic cabin. Gone are the plethora of knobs and dials we’re used to. Instead, the driver is welcomed by two smartphone-esque touchscreens, flanking a yoke-style steering wheel. It’s an almost sci-fi level of integration between the driver and the machine.

So, is the FT-Se just a pretty face or is it a sign of something much bigger? It’s still too early to make that call. While it’s tempting to see the FT-Se as a trendsetter for the next-generation MR2, it’s better to keep our expectations low. Yet, what’s certain is that Toyota is all set to make a statement in the sector of electric sports cars, merging its racing legacy with a futureproof plan.

Chen Nanxiang Charts a Path for China’s Semiconductor Future Amid US Restrictions

Recent shifts in the global semiconductor landscape have placed China in a rather precarious position. The election of Chen Nanxiang, chairman of Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp (YMTC), as the new head of the China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA) comes at a crucial time when US sanctions have further tightened their grip on the industry.

Chen seems to be directing the CSIA into a more proactive role

Chen, who was elected in Wuhan where YMTC is based, laid out a plan that focuses on unity and consensus within the industry. His leadership couldn’t be timelier. The US just expanded export restrictions, including a ban on certain less advanced deep ultraviolet (DUV) immersion lithography systems. These new rules have not only complicated YMTC’s plans for capacity expansion but also raised questions among Dutch lawmakers about the US‘s unilateral actions.

China

Chen seems to be directing the CSIA into a more proactive role, advocating for a better decision-making process and a stronger execution team. “It must build industry consensus and become a value contributor to the development of China’s semiconductor industry,” he emphasized. This suggests a more cohesive strategy to navigate the complex geopolitical climate and technological challenges the industry faces.

Also noteworthy was the attendance of Qiao Yueshan from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology at the election. Yueshan’s presence could signify that the government is keen on having a more vocal and unified industry front.

Although YMTC recently got hit with a spot on the US trade blacklist, this new leadership role for Chen could mean more emphasis on domestic partnerships. The company had already been working closely with domestic suppliers like Naura Technology Group, a pattern we might see more frequently as the trade sanctions continue to pinch the country.

Satya Nadella Says Shutting Down Microsoft’s Mobile Business Was A Mistake

There was a time when Microsoft was widely known in the smartphone market. The Redmond-based tech giant forayed into the smartphone segment way back in 2010 with Lumia devices running on Windows OS. The company competed against Android and iOS smartphones. However, it was short-lived as in 2017, Microsoft said that it would not develop any feature or hardware for Windows 10 mobiles. Now, in an interview with Business Insider, Satya Nadella, the CEO of the software giant has admitted the mistake of giving up on mobile business. However, he is also not the first CEO of the company to reveal this.

Satya Nadella admits shutting down Microsoft’s smartphone business

Satya Nadella took over former CEO Steve Ballmer in 2014. Just over a year later, he wrote off $7.6 billion related to Microsoft’s acquisition of the Nokia phone business. When asked about any real strategic mistake or wrong decision in the interview, the CEO stated “The decision I think a lot of people talk about – and one of the most difficult decisions I made when I became CEO – was our exit of what I’ll call the mobile phone as defined then”

The executive also added that Microsoft’s mobile phone business could have been handled better. The company could have reinvented the category of computing between PCs, tablets, and phones.

Nadella admitting his mistake in shutting down Microsoft’s phone business doesn’t come as a surprise. Former CEO Bill Gates revealed that the company did not end up doing the mobile OS well enough. Steve Ballmer also confessed that he regretted not focussing on the phone quite earlier.

Microsoft tried its hands multiple times in the smartphone business however, it failed to garner any success. Even after acquiring Nokia’s smartphone division, the company could not break the duopoly of Android and iOS. The Redmond-based company has Android-based Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2 foldable phones launched a few years ago, however, their future remains uncertain.
