Trek Enters The E-Bike Game, & The Popular Marlin Gets an Electric Upgrade

Trek, a cycling giant renowned for decades of quality and affordability, finally electrified its best-selling Marlin model with the introduction of the Marlin+ Electric bike. This move comes as a surprise to many, given the long-standing popularity of the Marlin as an all-rounder bike. But hey, there’s a first time for everything.

The electric bike starts at just over $3,000 on Trek’s official website

While the original Marlin was a do-it-all machine, the Marlin+ aims to keep that legacy alive, but with an electric twist. Unlike its sibling that has conquered all terrains—from cross-country to technical tracks—the Marlin+ is fitted with a Bosch Active Line Plus mid-drive unit. Don’t expect a super-charged experience, though. The motor pumps out a modest 50 Newton-meters of torque. But what it lacks in raw power, it gains in customization, as users can fine-tune settings via the Bosch e-Bike Flow app.

Electric Trek

One area that might raise eyebrows is the battery. With just a 400-watt-hour pack, it’s not a long-range champion. However, it is compatible with Bosch’s 250Wh PowerMore range extender. So if you’re planning a day-long adventure, take a sigh of relief; this e-bike‘s got you covered.

Now let’s talk about riding comfort. The Marlin+ offers a 120-millimeter suspension fork, making it suitable for moderate terrains. It’s not a downgrade from its unassisted version but adds a layer of premium feel with a thru-axle system for mounting the wheels.

The cherry on top? Versatility remains key. Just like the Marlin, the electric version also has a frame that accommodates a variety of accessories. So, whether it’s a luggage rack or fenders, customize the Marlin+ to fit your riding style.

As for the price tag, the Marlin+6 is listed at £2,500 ($3,093 USD) on Trek’s UK website, while its more premium sibling, the Marlin+8, will set you back £3,000 ($3,712 USD). However, those waiting for it in the United States will have to exercise some patience; availability and pricing are still in the air.

Oppo Find X3 Pro gets Android 14 beta

Oppo was the first non-Google OEM to begin the Android 14 public beta program in August. Since then, the company has been adding new devices to the initiative every other week.

Today, the brand’s 2021 flagship smartphone Oppo Find X3 Pro joins the program. Interested users of this phone in China can enroll themselves to try out the latest version of Android before the general public.

ColorOS 12 Review GizmoChina OPPO Find X3 Pro 04
Oppo Find X3 Pro

Android 14 is the third major software update for the Oppo Find X3 Pro. The device will most likely not receive any more Android update going forward.

That’s because the new 4 Android update policy only covers flagship smartphones that were released in 2023. Anyway, the phone will receive its final major software update quickly as beta builds are already ready.

As mentioned earlier, the Android 14 beta program for Oppo Find X3 Pro is currently limited to China, just like other devices. But a similar program for global markets should begin shortly.

Oppo’s take on Android 14 is expected to be called ColorOS 14. However, the company is not using this name so far.

As of now, not much is known about the new features of Oppo’s next-gen mobile software. The brand should tease the features once we near the official announcement day, the date for which is yet to be revealed.

It was supposed to debut last month but was delayed due to the change of display panel supplier.

OnePlus Open launch date leaked

As per tipster Max Jambor, the OnePlus Open is set to debut next month. The date is set for October 19, Thursday. However, OnePlus is yet to share an official word on its foldable phone. Leaked renders revealed a compact form factor, a wider aspect ratio, and a bigger protruding circular camera module on the rear. It is also said to have a fold lifecycle of 400,000 times. As for the core specifications, the foldable phone is rumored to come with a periscope camera lens, quad speakers, and an alert slider. Nintendo Switch 2 to Feature Unique Custom DLSS Unavailable on Any Other NVIDIA GPU

The countdown has begun for the Nintendo Switch 2. Almost every day, new leaks about the highly anticipated handheld console are emerging. For example, we recently reported that the console’s SoC will use an NVIDIA Ampere GPU. Of course, an NVIDIA GPU means that DLSS technology will also be included in the Switch 2. However, according to the latest information, the upcoming handheld will feature a custom version of DLSS. Here are the details…

Will the Nintendo Switch 2’s Custom DLSS Live Up to Expectations?

If some of you are not aware, DLSS is a technology that uses AI to enhance both game performance and image quality. It accomplishes this by initially rendering the game at a lower resolution, then upscaling it to the native resolution through AI algorithms. This process can improve performance by up to twice as much without sacrificing the quality of the image.

Due to its functionality and the boost it provides to performance, there has been significant excitement around rumors that DLSS might be featured in the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. However, a recent information has both confirmed this technology on console and suggested that it may not meet all of our expectations.

Recently, Nintendo posted a new job listing, indicating that they are looking to hire a Data Engineer to assist with the integration of machine learning technologies on low-power embedded platforms. As you may know, DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) was a technology that was introduced to us with NVIDIA’s RTX 2000 series graphics cards. These cards have chips that do not face any space constraints. However, Nintendo has more limited space to integrate DLSS technology in their upcoming Switch 2.

Nintendo Switch 2

What led us to make this inference is the sentence “optimization of machine learning models to fit power, memory and CPU budgets” found in the job listing. Of course, everything we’ve mentioned is purely speculative and based on assumptions. Nintendo could very well be using the familiar DLSS technology that we know from computers for the Switch 2. However, if that’s not the case and there is a custom DLSS, users should be prepared for a device that may not offer the performance they’re hoping for.

iPad To Finally Get Native WhatsApp App Soon

Apple’s iPads lack the native app version of the popular instant messenger WhatsApp. Users had to access the Meta-owned platform using the web version on the tablet. Meanwhile, android tablets already had support for the native WhatsApp app. However, the long wait for a native app is finally coming to an end now for iPad users. WhatsApp for iPad is currently in development as per WABetainfo. Read on to know all the details below.

WhatsApp for iPad is finally coming

WhatsApp announced the native app for Mac last month. The WhatsApp for iPad beta version has been spotted in TestFlight. As per WABetainfo, users need to be a part of the WhatsApp Beta program on iOS to access the iPad version. The beta version number for iOS is 23.19.1.71.

The publication has also shared a screenshot of the native WhatsApp for iPad interface. It has the same split-screen design as the Windows and Mac apps. However, there are a few differences between the native apps on Mac and iPad. The chat, settings, calls, and status tools are at the bottom left toolbar.

To set up WhatsApp on iPad, users need WhatsApp Beta installed on both iPhone and iPad. They need to open WhatsApp on iPhone, select link a device and scan the QR code displayed on the iPad by opening the instant messenger there. Once the linking process is done, users can use WhatsApp on iPad without needing their iPhone to be connected to the internet.

The WhatsApp for iPad works similar to companion mode meaning users can also link their Android devices to the Apple tablet. WhatsApp will sync the chats across all devices. WABetainfo adds that WhatsApp’s iPad version has limited functionality just like the native Mac app. Users can’t share live location or post status updates but these are expected to be available in the future.

Currently, there is no word when the stable rollout of WhatsApp for iPad will be released.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra to come with Sony LYT900 1-inch camera sensor, quad-curved display, and more

Xiaomi is known for producing one of the best camera smartphones for the last few years. This started with the company’s introduction of the Ultra series.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra is the company’s second-gen ultra phone with a 1-inch camera sensor. Rumors say that the Xiaomi 14 Ultra will continue to use the same-sized sensor.

Earlier today, a reliable source revealed more details about this upcoming handset. Let’s check out what the new leak has to say.

According to Digital Chat Station, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra will sport a new 1-inch Sony LYT900 primary sensor. This image sensor is an optimized version of IMX9898 found inside Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Xiaomi 12S Ultra, and Xiaomi 13 Pro.

This primary camera will be accompanied by three 50MP sensors. Two of them will be paired with 3x and 5x zoom lenses and the remaining one will be attached with an ultra-wide lens. The 3x camera will support telephoto macro like the Xiaomi 13 Pro.

Further, the tipster states that the device will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. On the front, it will be equipped with a 2K quad curved display featuring a single centered punch hole.

The curvature of the screen on all four sides will be minimal. Finally, the quad cameras on the rear will be placed in a circular fashion, just like the last two generations.

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is expected to launch in the first half of next year. But before that, the company is anticipated to release Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro in November.
