Sharge ICEMAG Power Bank Review: Magnetic Wireless Charge With Active Fan?!

Sharge ICEMAG

Until the emergence of Shargeek as a brand, we never had any illusions about a power bank other than charging. Now they’ve updated the brand name to Sharge, which is simpler and more straightforward. It’s easy to create stuff by following the same old patterns, but Sharge is an exception to the rule. They’ve virtually reinvented the power bank as a product category with unique design and demanding technologies. That’s why you can see more and more brands starting to put effort into their power bank designs and features. But no matter how fancy the new power banks are, it seems that they’re going down the path of imitating the ideas from Sharge. Recently Sharge released a brand-new power bank called Sharge IceMag, which is the world’s 1st magnetic power bank with active cooling.

It just became available for a good price at $59 US dollars on their store. Just in case you didn’t see the end message and missed this super cool power bank, I have to remind you here to check out the link here. It’s really likely to become a popular pattern in the following years.

Unboxing & Design

So let’s start with its unboxing. The silver box is designed in a stylish fashion. When it’s sitting on the shelf, you can pretty much get an idea of what the power bank can do from the box. It houses a battery capacity of 10,000 mAh with a maximum output of 20W via USB-C connection. For wireless charging, the maximum output can reach 7.5W.

Open the box, actually, we found it’s a compact white model instead of the silver image shown on the box. But when actually getting my hands on the power bank, its white frame looks pretty impressive.

The USB-C port at the bottom is for both input and output via cables. The back is a magnetic ring that allows it to snap on supported phones such as iPhones 13 & 14 series

Features

Well, the pocket size perfectly meets Magsafe-compatible magnetic charging. And compared with most MagSafe Battery Packs, the IceMag is a bit thicker. But actually, it has a very good magnetic snapping. No matter with or without the case, it fits snugly on top of the iPhone without falling off, even when I shake it hard.

The front face is covered with a transparent plastic panel, which we’ve seen quite a bit in previous Sharge products. The battery components are protected by a black kit, while at the bottom, the clear cover gives visibility to the battery’s control board, complete with diodes, capacitors, and microcontrollers, which is full of geek style. And the real star is the active cooling fan with an indicator light in the center.

It really takes me back to the Red Magic gaming phones, which have been proven to be effective over-cooling for gaming with their built-in fan. The air duct is also well designed with an air intake at the side and another air outlet at the bottom. The L-tyle convection design is great for extracting the heat of the circuit components and offers a more controllable temperature for wireless charging.

Once the power bank detects a wireless charging-enabled device, the fan and lights will activate along with the wireless charging, delivering a stable and efficient power output. We all know that most power banks including MagSafe models easily get overheated. Then they would be forced to stop working until they cool down again. As frequent overheating can damage internal components and batteries, the life of these power banks often becomes an annoying issue.

By far we couldn’t fully show you whether the IceMag can truly solve the problem, but at least for now, the 8000 RPM active fan is quite impressive over cooling.

As the fan was activated, we hardly detected any downtime during the wireless charging.

I’m pretty surprised by a couple of features. The first one is that you can turn it into a wireless charging pad, refilling IceMag and juicing up your device all at once.

And the IceMag supports charging 2 devices via both wired and wireless at the same time, which is really convenient for traveling.

The last one is for those small gadgets like wearables. It supports a unique low-current charging mode to juice up low-current devices such as wireless earbuds, smart bands or smartwatches.

Outputs

To give you a better picture of how it works. We tested the charging protocols the USB-C port supports. It turns out the fact that this power bank is compatible with activating fast charging for most brands’ devices, no matter for iPhones or Androids. We tried to connect it with various brands’ phones, the charging speeds are good and the maximum figure also matched what the brand said, which is able to reach 18W.

But this’s not amazing compared to other Sharge’s fast-charging power banks. The reason why it surprised us at first glance is still its unique design and the idea of adding an active cooling fan. The transparent design with a more compact body size does make it stand out from the crowd.

Verdict

And furthermore, as I’m sure most people would prefer to take it to wirelessly charge their devices, they would also go for it for faster and longer-lasting magnetic charging. For iPhones with MagSafe, it’s definitely the best companion for recharging, while for Android devices, though there’s no MagSafe for solid snap, you can still get it with a magnetic case. Even without magnetic snapping, it still works well with these Android phones supporting wireless charging. Now I’ve taken it as a truly wireless charging pad, a lovely part of my desk deco. For true wireless on your desktop, I would say the 10000mAh Sharge IceMag is the way to go right.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip already discounted by up to $300

Samsung just recently unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. The company’s latest foldable smartphones are on sale worldwide for only about a month.

However, these two new products can already be purchased at discounted prices in the US. Buyers can save up to $300 on these latest folding phones.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5

The discounts on new-gen Galaxy Z foldables are limited to Amazon in the US. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 gets a maximum discount of $300, compared to $200 on the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

This offer is available for all memory configurations and colors. So buyers need not settle down for a color they don’t like.

It is worth noting that it is a limited-time deal and it is not known when it will end. Anyways, the devices can be purchased at the following prices.

Galaxy Z Fold 5

  • 12GB + 256GB – $1,499.99
  • 12GB + 512GB – $1,619.99

Galaxy Z Flip 5

  • 8GB + 256GB – $799.99
  • 8GB + 512GB – $919.99

At around $800, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 sure sounds like a sweet deal for someone who is looking to get a regular slab smartphone in this range. Unfortunately, this offer is only available in the US and it has been always like this in the case of Samsung.

The Korean tech giant is probably trying to increase its sales ahead of the iPhone 15 launch next week. Because newer iPhones tend to lead the sales chart during the holiday quarter every year.

MediaTek announces its first Dimensity chipset using TSMC’s 3nm process

MediaTek, collaborating with TSMC, announces the successful tape-out of its first 3nm Dimensity chipset, developed using TSMC’s 3nm process. Mass production of the chip starts next year, with the launch scheduled for the second half of 2024.

MediaTek Dimensity

Performance Breakthrough: The Power of the 3nm Process

TSMC’s 3nm process technology offers notable advantages compared to its 5nm predecessor. It delivers around a 60% increase in logic density and provides an 18% speed boost at constant power or a 32% reduction in power consumption with the same performance. This technology targets high-performance computing and mobile applications, aiming to enhance performance, power efficiency, and yield.

MediaTek plans to incorporate this chip into various devices such as smartphones, tablets, and smart vehicles. This strategic move places MediaTek at the forefront of chip manufacturing, as the industry competition to adopt the 3nm process intensifies.

There are speculations suggesting that Apple might be an early adopter of TSMC’s 3nm production capacity, potentially using it for their upcoming A17 chip later this year. In contrast, accurate details about Qualcomm’s 3nm technology are limited as of now. When Qualcomm eventually launches its 3nm chip, it is expected to trigger a competitive rivalry with MediaTek.

Joe Chen, MediaTek’s President, praised the partnership with TSMC for its exceptional manufacturing capabilities. He expressed that this collaboration will enable MediaTek to demonstrate its advanced design in flagship chipsets, aiming to offer high-quality solutions to their global customers and enhance the user experience in the flagship market.

Google takes a jab at Apple iPhone 15 for its late shift of USB-C

Google just took another swing at Apple. This time, the company mocked the upcoming iPhone 15 for taking so long to shift to the USB Type-C port. So let’s have a look at the video.

Pixel to iPhone: You’re finally getting USB-C charging!?

The search engine giant’s latest video is a part of its #BestPhonesForever ad campaign. This series basically takes a jab at the iPhone maker every now and then. The latest video was shared on YouTube and carries the title “Spa Day”. In the video, the Google Pixel and Apple iPhone can be seen having a conversation surrounded by towels and candles. The two devices are talking to one another with a cucumber slice covering both their rear camera modules.

Apple iPhone 15

During the conversation, the iPhone describes all the features it has received over the past, which the Pixel slyly points as being pretty behind its Android counterparts. But in the last exchange, the iPhone hints at a major upcoming feature, which the Pixel guesses is the USB Type-C port. This basically mocks the new iPhone 15 series, since it took so long for Apple to finally move to the USB-C.

For those unaware, Apple is shifting to USB-C to comply with new rules that were implemented by the European Union. So far, the brand’s smartphones shipped with the proprietary Lightning port. you can check out the video by clicking on this link here.

Apple iPhones will feature self-developed 5G modems in 2025: Kuo

We already know that Apple is working on developing its own 5G modem for its products. Now, a new report from renowned analysts hints that this proprietary networking modem could be making its way to the iPhone in 2025.

Apple 5G Modem might Debut in the iPhone SE 4 model

The news arrives from known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who believes that the Cupertino based giant is looking to reduce its dependency on other companies for modems. For those unaware, the iPhone maker had acquired Intel’s modem unit back in 2019 and currently relies on Qualcomm for 5G modems. But according to the analyst, Apple is nearing the launch of its self developed modems.

Apple

Kuo stated that the company is planning on shifting to its own modems by 2025. As of right now, the iPhone 14 series features Qualcomm’s X65 modem for 5G connectivity in iPhones. The new in-house 5G modems will be featured on iPhones and other cellular enabled devices. Ming-Chi Kuo previously stated that the iPhone SE 4th generation will be the first iPhone to feature this 5G modem.

However, due to supply chain issues, the company faced mass production challenges for the 5G modem. So now, it looks like the launch of Apple’s 5G networking tech might get delayed until 2025. Apple has been looking to become more independent in recent years, which is also reflected in its M series of processors for its PCs.

Alleged Huawei Mate X5 with Kirin 9000s chip to launch soon

Last week, Huawei quietly released the Mate 60 and the Mate 60 Pro in China. An HiSilicon Kirin 9000s chip powers these 5G-enabled devices.

As per rumors and leaks, more products from the company will use this new chip. Recently, we learned one of them will be a premium tablet.

Earlier today, a tipster revealed that the company’s next foldable will also house this chipset. He also disclosed the name of the phone and its memory configuration.

Huawei Mate X3
Huawei Mate X3

The Huawei Mate X3 is currently the latest foldable smartphone from Huawei. According to a leaker, this device will be succeeded by the Huawei Mate X5 by skipping the X4 moniker.

Chinese brands are known to omit the number ‘4’ in the name of their products as it is considered a bad omen. But Huawei does not follow this norm. If this leak is to be believed, it would be a first for the company.

The tipster says that the Huawei Mate X5 will arrive in standard and collector’s edition. They will be offered in the following memory configurations.

  • Huawei Mate X5 (5 Colors)
    • 12GB + 256GB
    • 12GB + 512GB
    • 16GB + 512GB
  • Huawei Mate X5 Collector’s Edition (4 Colors)
    • 16GB + 512GB
    • 16GB + 1TB

Another leaker reveals that the device will be available in black, white, blue, gold, and purple color options.

Unfortunately, none of them mention when the phone will be unveiled. Since the Mate X3 was just launched earlier this year, its successor might arrive at the end of 2023 or early 2024.

However, Huawei is mysterious regarding the smartphones powered by its new Kirin 9000s SoC. So we wouldn’t be surprised if the Mate X5 goes official in the next few weeks.

Apple Enters the AI Race, Spending Millions of Dollars to Develop New Chatbots

Artificial intelligence technologies are becoming increasingly popular. Today, almost every company is either trying to integrate this technology, led by OpenAI and Google, into their own services or develop its own equivalent. According to recent reports, Apple is one of those companies, and they are spending millions of dollars a day on AI features. Here are the details…

Apple’s Siri to Gets a Major Upgrade with New Conversational AI Features

Apple is reportedly developing a number of new features for its voice assistant Siri, including the ability to automate tasks and generate images and videos. For example, a user could say “Siri, create a GIF of the last five photos I took and text it to my friend,” and Siri would automatically perform the task. This would save users time and effort, and it would make Siri more powerful and versatile.

Apple AI

Apple is also reportedly working on a chatbot called Ajax. This chatbot is said to be more capable than the original ChatGPT 3.5 and has been trained on 200 billion parameters. However, OpenAI’s newer models are more powerful, so it remains to be seen how Ajax will compare to them.

However, none of these efforts are cheap. According to recent reports, the company is spending millions of dollars to add AI capabilities to Siri and develop its Ajax chatbot. The main reason for this is that training large language models requires a lot of hardware. For example, OpenAI spent more than $100 million to develop GPT-4.

The potential applications of artificial intelligence are vast, and Apple is just one of many companies that are investing in this technology. As the technology continues to develop, it is likely to have a major impact on the way we interact with devices and services.

Huawei’s new Kirin 9000s chips put Qualcomm in great trouble, suggests Analyst

Huawei managed to get the world’s attention with its new Mate 60 series of smartphones. Announced without a formal event, the Mate 60 and Mate 60 Pro bring a 5G Kirin 9000s chipset that seems to be manufactured by SMIC on its 7nm process node. While this is excellent news for consumers, competitors like Qualcomm may not be as thrilled. An analyst predicts that Huawei’s new chipset poses a great threat to Qualcomm’s dominance in the market.

Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, known for his Apple-related predictions, said “Qualcomm is the main loser from Huawei’s adoption of Kirin9000S and new Kirin chips”. This is because Huawei is a major customer of Qualcomm, and if Huawei starts using its own chips, it will no longer need to buy chips from Qualcomm. In 2022, Huawei bought 23-25 million mobile phone SoCs from the US tech giant, and in 2023, it bought 40-42 million, according to Kuo.

Kuo predicts that Qualcomm may not only experience a decline in shipments to Huawei but also face the risk of reduced shipments to non-Huawei Chinese brand clients due to the competition posed by Huawei. “Qualcomm’s SoC shipments to Chinese smartphone brands in 2024 are expected to be at least 50–60 million units lower than in 2023 due to Huawei’s adoption of the new Kirin processors and will continue to decline year by year,” Kuo wrote in his blog post on Medium.

This may force Qualcomm to “start a price war as early as 4Q23 to maintain market share in the Chinese market, which will be detrimental to profits,” said Kuo.

That’s not it, Kuo believes Qualcomm faces two other potential risks. First, the market share of the Exynos 2400 in Samsung mobile phones could be higher than expected. This would reduce Qualcomm’s sales to Samsung. Second, Apple is expected to start using its own modem chip in 2025. This would be a major blow to Qualcomm, as Apple is a major customer.
