Hyundai Mobis and Volkswagen Join Forces for Electric Vehicle Collaboration

Hyundai Mobis, part of the Hyundai Motor Group, has secured a big contract from Volkswagen AG for EV components. The agreement is mainly for the Battery System Assembly (BSA). This is a product that puts together a battery pack with the battery management system (BMS) and other parts. It’s made to make sure the battery in an electric vehicle works well and safely.

Hyundai is already setting up new manufacturing hubs in the US and Indonesia

Volkswagen will use Hyundai Mobis’s BSA in its next-generation electric vehicles. What’s more, Hyundai Mobis will build a new production base in Spain, close to Volkswagen’s plant.

HYUNDAI

It looks like Volkswagen will get BSA for its upcoming all-electric models from Hyundai Mobis, instead of making everything in-house. This is interesting because big companies like Volkswagen and Hyundai are often seen as rivals. But with other recent partnerships in the industry, maybe this shouldn’t be too surprising.

Some think that Volkswagen is changing its strategy for electric cars, with possibly more outsourcing. It could be a need for new technology or a way to save money. Either way, it’s a big win for Hyundai Mobis, which is growing its BSA manufacturing around the world.

Hyundai Mobis said that it plans to build a new base near a car plant in Spain to supply these BSAs. They already have BSA production in Korea and the Czech Republic, and new electric vehicle hubs in the United States and Indonesia.

They also noted that they expect more orders for electric vehicle parts in the global market. So, we might see more companies looking to get EV components from Hyundai Mobis in the future.

BMW Unveils the Bulletproof 7 Series Protection Models that can withstand Armor-Piercing Bullets

BMW has revealed the latest in automotive protection with their new 7 Series Protection models. Far from ordinary, these vehicles have undergone the highly prestigious VR9 treatment, offering one of the highest levels of ballistic certification for civilian cars.

The images released by BMW depict the 7 Series with cracked window glasses that remain intact and a body riddled with bullet holes, while the inside continues to impress with luxury. What sets this vehicle apart from the standard 7 Series is that it is designed to endure extreme conditions. The body, crafted from armored steel, can sustain 7.62 X 54 R ammunition, known for their armor-piercing capabilities.

The fuel tank on the non-electric model can seal itself if hit, protecting against explosions

Manufactured at the BMW Plant Dingolfing, the i7 Protection stands out as the world’s first protection sedan with an all-electric powertrain. Exterior protection is ensured through hot-formed steel alloy and armored materials on the roof and underbody, guarding against aerial and explosive attacks. Furthermore, the fuel tank on the ICE version has a special casing that can seal itself if hit by a bullet, preventing fuel loss.

BMW Electric

This attention to safety extends even to the tires. With 20-inch alloys and Michelin PAX run-flat tires, the vehicle can travel at 50 miles per hour, even with total pressure loss. BMW has taken care to maintain a discreet appearance for their protection models, with only the run-flat tires and flag holder serving as visual differentiators.

The i7 Protection comes equipped with two motors delivering 544 horsepower and 549 pound-feet of torque, and a top speed limited to 99 mph. Due to the added weight of the armor, it achieves 0-62 mph in 9.0 seconds. Its estimated range stands at 210 miles, considering the 30 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers WLTP efficiency.

Inside, luxury is not compromised. BMW ensures a pampering experience with features like the BMW Curved Display, 28-speaker sound system, reclining seats with footrests, and more. However, the 31-inch 8K retractable screen is missing, as those in need of protection against armor-piercing rounds likely won’t prioritize movie streaming.

Pricing for this European-exclusive model remains undisclosed but is expected to be above the i7 M70’s $168,500 MSRP in the US.

The car’s unique design and robust protection features cater to a niche market that demands security without sacrificing comfort. Its introduction marks an exciting chapter in automotive innovation and perhaps a new standard in vehicle protection. What are your thoughts on this creation? Feel free to share your perspective in the comments!

Sony Knows How to Sell Its Products, But Doesn’t Know How to Make Money From Them

Sony is definitely one of the most successful tech companies in the world. Japanese tech giant has investments in many different sectors and operates in a wide range of areas, from gaming consoles like the PlayStation 5 to imaging technologies. However, despite all this, the company’s financial situation hasn’t been looking so good. Sony reported a 31% drop in profit in the April-June Q1 2023 period. Here are the details…

Sony Expects Strong Sales of PlayStation 5 and Image Sensors in Current Fiscal Year

Sony has a wide range of products and services, but it seems they didn’t manage them well. In the first three months of 2023, the company saw a 31% drop in profit compared to the same period the previous year. So, their profit decreased from $2.5 billion the previous year to $2.1 billion. However, this doesn’t mean everything went wrong. In fact, Sony had a significant 33% increase in total revenue, reaching $20.92 billion. This has raised concerns about the company’s management and business model rather than its products.

Sony Q1 2023

The scapegoat for Sony was Sony Pictures and the company’s financial services which primarily operate in Japan. Sadly, despite being a significant expense for the company, these departments could not generate enough revenue to balance the scales. However, it’s not all bad news. As expected, the company’s gaming division performed well.

Tedarik zincirindeki sorunların oradan kalkması sadece oyunculara değil Sony’e de yaradı. PlayStation 5 satışları is up 38% year-on-year to 3.3 million units. Sony is now forecasting sales of 25 million PS5 units in the full year, up from its previous forecast of 22.6 million units. The company also raised its forecast for sales of games and network services. Piers Harding-Rolls, analyst at Ampere Analysis, said Sony’s strong PlayStation results were a reflection of its “much healthier position with regards to console availability.”

In addition to the PlayStation business, Sony also reported strong results from its image sensors and semiconductor businesses. However, the company said it expects its imaging sensors business to perform weaker than previously anticipated, citing the impact of dwindling smartphone sales and a slow economic recovery in China.

Huawei NearLink launched with 6x Bluetooth speed

Huawei recently introduced NearLink, its latest generation of short-range wireless connection technology. Short-range communications are wireless technologies that allow devices to connect to each other over a short distance. One of the most common examples of short-range communication is Bluetooth. But Huawei’s new NearLink technology is claimed to be significantly faster than Bluetooth. And it has the potential to be used as a standard connection technology for future devices.

This is a significant achievement for Huawei, as it has been blacklisted by the US government. However, Huawei remains a major player in the global tech industry, and NearLink is a sign that the company is still innovating despite its challenges.

Huawei’s NearLink could be a game changer

NearLink is the result of a collaborative effort between more than 300 leading enterprises and institutions from around the world. It combines the strengths of traditional wireless technologies like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, resulting in a much faster, more reliable, and more energy-efficient connection.

NearLink is six times faster than Bluetooth and has a latency of just 1/30th of a millisecond. This makes it ideal for applications that require high-speed data transfer and low latency, such as augmented reality and virtual reality. NearLink also supports up to 10 times more group connections than Bluetooth, making it well-suited for multi-device applications like smart home systems and industrial automation. Also, energy consumption has decreased by up to 60%.

Huawei says NearLink can be used in a variety of scenarios, including consumer electronics, smart homes, electric vehicles, and industrial smart manufacturing.

But Huawei is not the only company working on new short-range wireless connection technologies. Apple has its own technology called Ultra Wideband (UWB). Other companies, such as Qualcomm and MediaTek are also involved in the development of this field. However, NearLink appears to be an advanced short-range wireless connection technology that has the potential to become the standard for future devices.

Redmi Pad SE is one step closer to global launch with TDRA certification

The original Redmi Pad was released in October of last year with the Helio G99 SoC and an IPS LCD display. Leaks suggest that a next-generation tablet is also scheduled to be released sometime this year. While early details hinted that it would be called the Redmi Pad 2, a new report claims that the device will be branded as the Redmi Pad SE. Redmi has yet to confirm the release of the new slate, but it appears that we won’t have to wait much longer, as it has received another global certification.

Redmi Pad SE could be a solid budget tablet

The Redmi Pad SE has received TDRA approval with the model number 23073RPBFG. As usual, the certification listing didn’t reveal anything interesting apart from the manufacturer details, which in this case is Xiaomi, and the model number. However, the certification suggests that the Redmi Pad SE is inching toward its global launch.

Redmi Pad 2 TDRA certification

While we don’t have an official confirmation regarding the tablet’s launch, reports claim it will launch alongside the Xiaomi Pad 6 Max, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 foldable phone, and the Redmi K60 Ultra flagship in August in China. MIX Fold 3’s launch is happening on August 14 so we might not have to wait for long.

Last month, the Redmi Pad SE (formerly Redmi Pad 2) bagged FCC certification, which also revealed it will come in variants, such as 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage, 4 GB RAM + 128 GB storage, and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage. The slate is said to run on MIUI 14, based on Android 13.

Other reports claim Redmi’s upcoming tablet will get an around 10-inch IPS LCD display with 2K resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. Geekbench reveals it will have the Snapdragon 680 chipset under the hood, paired with LPDDR4x RAM. Fueling the tablet may be an 8,000mAh battery with support for 22.5W fast charging.

The Redmi Pad SE should be launched in multiple markets. Are you excited about the new budget tablet?

Qualcomm sets new world record for 5G speed with Snapdragon X75 modem at 7.5 Gbps

Qualcomm Technologies has set a new world record for sub-6 GHz 5G download speeds with its new Snapdragon X75 5G Modem-RF System. The modem achieved an impressive 7.5 Gbps downlink speed.

Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon X75 5G Modem-RF System at MWC in February 2023. The X75 is the successor to the Snapdragon X70, which is found in the Galaxy S23 series and other Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered devices. Qualcomm’s latest test of the X75 shows that the company is still looking for breakthrough performance and striving for the best of its hardware.

Qualcomm Snapdragon X75 modem achieves an incredible download speed

The Snapdragon X75 was able to achieve this speed by leveraging 300 MHz of spectrum. The modem also utilized 4x carrier aggregation (4xCA) across 4 Time Division Duplexing (TDD) channels in a single downlink connection, along with the use of 1024 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM). These techniques were tested in a 5G standalone (SA) network configuration to achieve a whooping speed of 7.5 Gbps.

Qualcomm has said that these capabilities of the Snapdragon X75 will allow for a much better user experience, faster download speeds, better network handling, efficiency, and more. The modem is ready to make its debut in future flagships and it will be able to handle any network-related task that you throw at it.

Qualcomm has confirmed that phones with the Snapdragon X75 5G Modem will be available in the second half of 2023. This is exciting news, as the X75 is a major upgrade over the previous generation of modems.

T-Mobile recently achieved a download speed of 3.3 Gbps on the Galaxy S23, which uses the Snapdragon X70 modem. The X75 is expected to offer over twice that speed, at 7.5 Gbps. This is a significant improvement, and it will make a big difference for users who demand the fastest possible data speeds.

New Keychron K11 Pro Alice-Style Mechanical Keyboard could help you type faster

Keychron makes some of the most interesting keyboards we see out there. The brand has keyboards that split in two, ones that are fully customizable, and it even recently unveiled its first mechanical gaming keyboard. If this isn’t enough, the brand has today launched the Keychron K11 Pro as its new Alice-style mechanical keyboard that comes with an ergonomic build and a shorter axis. Here are the details.

Keychron K11 Pro features and pricing

The Keychron K11 Pro is an Alice-style keyboard, featuring a layout that you’d find very different from your standard keyboard. Its keys are split into two halves and are slightly angled to offer a more ergonomic typing experience. Despite this design, the keyboard frame itself remains a single, cohesive piece. Because this keyboard contains angled keys separated by an inverted V, you can naturally rest your wrist and type more ergonomically.

The new K11 Pro Alice mechanical keyboard supports both Bluetooth and wired connections. It is compatible with both Mac and Windows computers. It comes with Jiadalong short axis 2.0 switches and LSA height two-color injection PBT keycaps. It is the first low-profile QMK/VIA wireless custom mechanical keyboard with a 65% Alice layout. It comes with premium features, including double-shot PBT keycaps, and a rotary encoder knob.

The keyboard has powerful ultra-low-power ARM architecture MCU equipped with 128K flash that will provide more flexibility. It is claimed to have a polling rate of 1000 Hz on wired mode right out of the box.

Keychron K11 Pro has been launched in China today for 448 Yuan ($62). It is also available for purchase in the global market with a price tag of $94.
