To bridge this gap, BMW M is exploring simulated gears, recreating the sensation of shifting gears without the need for a physical gearbox.

Another automaker making strides in this realm is Hyundai, particularly with their Ioniq 5 N model. This EV utilizes software to enhance its one-speed gearbox, offering N e-shift, which replicates the feeling of an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission through precise control of motor torque output. In tandem, the N Active Sound + system provides auditory cues, allowing drivers to choose from three distinct sound themes, each communicating the car’s actions at any given moment.

While some may argue that piped-in fake exhaust sounds and clutch-operated manual transmissions for EVs may seem unnecessary, they serve a vital purpose: enhancing the driving experience by maintaining a connection between the car and its driver. This connection is paramount for performance vehicles like those in BMW’s M series, ensuring that drivers can fully immerse themselves in the thrill of the track without distractions.

Although the specific details of BMW M’s haptic feedback solution remain shrouded in mystery, Frank van Meel has confirmed that the company’s debut electric model is currently in development. On July 26, Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy Tab S9 series alongside other devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 5, the Galaxy Z Flip 5, and the Galaxy Watch 6 series. The Tab S9 lineup will consist of three models, with the most advanced one being named the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, while the other two will be known as the Galaxy Tab S9 and Galaxy Tab S9+, respectively. Just days before the official launch, renowned tipster Evan Blass leaked the specifications and new renders of the Tab S9 Ultra, providing us with a sneak peek at the details.

As per the new leak, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra 5G will pack a huge 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED display, which is the same size as the Tab S8 Ultra. Like its predecessor, the display of the Tab S9 Ultra will have a notch that will house a 12-megapixel main camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens. As can be seen in the above images, the tablet will come with support for a keyboard and S-Pen.

The rear camera setup of the flagship tablet will consist of a powerful 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens. Under the hood, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra 5G will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. While it is not mentioned in the leak, it could be equipped with an overclocked version of the chip that clocks at 3.36GHz. The Galaxy S23 series of smartphones that debuted earlier this year also features the 3.36GHz SD8G2 chip.

For smooth performance, the Tab S9 Ultra will come equipped with 12 GB of RAM. It will run on Android 13, which could be overlaid with the latest version of the One UI. The device will offer an internal storage capacity of 512 GB and come with an external storage slot for memory expansion.

To keep you going throughout the day, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra 5G will be equipped with a massive 11,200mAh battery. Other leaks have claimed that the tablet will support 45W fast charging. In May, iQOO unveiled the iQOO Neo 8 and Neo 8 Pro in the Chinese market. In June, the brand announced the more powerful iQOO 11S in the home market. It appears that the brand is now working on the launch of a Z-series mid-range smartphone. Reliable tipster Digital Chat Station has leaked the first details about what will be the successor for the iQOO Z7, which was announced earlier this year in China.

According to the leak, the iQOO Z8 will be a high-performance sub-flagship smartphone, featuring an LCD panel. The other details of the Z8 are yet to surface.

To recap, the iQOO Z7 (Chinese edition) was introduced in March of this year, featuring a 6.64-inch IPS LCD display with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2388 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. It is likely that the Z8 will retain the same display specifications. Additionally, the iQOO Z7 (Chinese edition) also featured a 5,000mAh dual-cell battery with 120W charging support.

Yamaha SR-B30A & SR-B40A Dolby Atmos soundbars announced

Yamaha has announced two new Dolby Atmos soundbars with built-in/ separate subwoofers. The Yamaha SR-B40A soundbar is rated as a rival to the Sonos Beam Gen 2 soundbar and both are in the same price range.

The Yamaha SR-B30A comes with a built-in subwoofer while the SR-B40A has a wireless subwoofer. The new soundbars are the latest iterations of the Yamaha SR-C20A and SR-C30A bars. The SR-B40A is the pricier and larger of the two models and the UK prices for the duo are already available.

The SR-B40A could deliver a deeper and more defined low-end sound, thanks to its separate dedicated subwoofer. It has four 460mm full-range cones and 250mm tweeters that produce frequencies between 22 Hz and 210Hz. The wireless subwoofer has a 1,600mm cone, further extending the bass frequency.

The Yamaha SR-B30A has the same full range cones as the SR-B40A while its built-in 750mm subwoofer delivers frequencies as low as 54Hz. The two new Yamaha soundbars provide brilliant sound reproduction and an overall immersive experience. The brand’s True Sound principle is hyped to help maximize Dolby Atmos, while the Clear Voice feature is also present.

The Bass Extension functionality of the soundbars also enables users to have greater control over low-end frequencies. Four sound modes – movie, stereo, standard, and game are present in both soundbars. The duo also features optical and HDMI interfaces. Apart from support for control via your TV’s remote, the soundbars have a remote app for mobile control.

The Yamaha SR-B30A and SR-B40A soundbars will be released in the UK on July 20. The prices of the two soundbars are £299 (~$385) and £449 (~$578) respectively. Europe and US pricing details for the two new Yamaha soundbars are lacking at this time.

Google has raised the price of YouTube Premium in the US. According to 9to5google, the new cost for both new and existing customers is $13.99 per month, up from $11.99. If you subscribe through the iOS YouTube app, the price goes up to $18.99 per month.

A Closer Look at YouTube Premium’s New Pricing Structure

According to a YouTube spokesperson, the price increase is necessary to maintain the quality of service and features provided to YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium subscribers. They also stated that the new price better reflects the value offered by YouTube Premium, including ad-free streaming, offline and background play, and access to over 100 million songs on the YouTube Music app.

In late 2022, the price for YouTube Premium family plans increased to $22.99 per month. The annual subscription, introduced in 2022, is now $139.99, saving subscribers $27.89 compared to monthly payments.

The cost of YouTube Music Premium will also rise from $9.99 to $10.99 per month, aligning with similar price increases by Apple and Amazon.

Recently, Motorola released its latest foldable smartphones called Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra. These clamshell foldables are available in multiple countries across the world.

The Razr 40 is currently the most affordable foldable smartphone in the world. On the other hand, the Razr 40 Ultra offers the largest cover screen on a clamshell foldable to date.

These devices stand out from their competitors due to the specialties mentioned above. Truly speaking, the Galaxy Z Fflip 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 are the only challengers to them as most others are limited to China.

But it is worth noting that a few days from now, Samsung will be unveiling the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The South Korean company’s next-gen clamshell foldable is also expected to sport a giant cover screen.

So the question arises whether you should buy any of the Motorola Razr 40 series smartphones or simply go with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip models. We try to answer this question.

Is Motorola Razr 40 worth buying?

The Motorola Razr 40 series consists of two models, namely Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra.

The Razr 40 is the most affordable foldable smartphone that you can buy. The device starts at ¥3,999, ₹59,999, and €799 in China, India, and Europe, respectively. It retails at around the same price in other markets as well.

For this price, it comes with specs that match a regular mid-range slab smartphone. But the highlight is that it can fold. Thus, the handset takes up less space in your pocket, purse, or bag.

Clamshell foldables are today’s compact smartphones. Due to space constraints, they are not as good as the normal smartphones in the specs department.

But the Razr 40 is super aggressive, just like the Chinese competitors Oppo Find N2 Flip and Vivo X Fold. It has one of the largest batteries and supports both wired as well as wireless charging.

Yes, it is run by a less powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC. But since the chip does not need more power, the phone can last longer.

Further, clamshell foldables are well suitable for those who want to bring down their screen time. The Razr 40 helps a lot in this regard as it has one of the tiniest cover displays.

On the other hand, the Razr 40 Ultra has the largest cover screen on any clamshell foldable phone. Motorola lets you do almost everything on this display. Hence, you don’t even need to unfold the main screen. It also houses a much more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip.

The Razr 40 and the Razr 40 Ultra are the only clamshell foldable smartphones that run software that is closer to stock Android. So if you are one of those stock Android loyalists, these are the sole options you have got.

As for pricing, the Razr 40 Ultra starts at ¥5,699, ₹89,999, and €1,199 in China, India, and Europe, respectively. It is costlier than the Galaxy Z Flip 4 in most markets.

Why you shouldn’t buy Motorola Razr 40?

There are a few reasons why you should not buy Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra.

First and foremost, these handsets are not as water resistant as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip models. They only come with minor splash resistance.

Secondly, stock Android is not for everyone. Also, Motorola only guarantees 3 Android updates and 4 years of security updates as opposed to 4 Android upgrades and 5 years of security patches by Samsung.

Further, though Motorola was the first to announce a commercial clamshell foldable phone, it lags behind Samsung in terms of both availability and after-sales service.

Finally, older-gen Galaxy Z Flip models are sold at heavily discounted prices after the launch of a new-gen model. For instance, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is currently being sold at a cheaper price than the Razr 40 itself.

Previous-gen models definitely lack new features and upgrades but when you can get them at a more affordable price than a budget foldable, they are more preferable.

Huawei MatePad 11.5 (2023) is already official in Malaysia and while we wait for the tablet to make it to other markets, the company has launched it in China. The specifications of the tablet are the same, meaning it comes powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor, a large 7,700mAh battery unit, and a 120Hz refresh rate. The large screen tablet brings a single camera setup on the back and runs HarmonyOS 3.1 out of the box. Here are the details.

Huawei MatePad 11.5 (2023), as the name suggests, comes equipped with a 11.5-inch display. The company mentions it is an upgraded eye protection soft screen that uses anti-glare nano-etching technology. It offers a resolution of 2200 x 1440 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. The display has received TÜV Rheinland hardware-level low blue light certification. The tablet is paired with Huawei M-Pencil (second generation).

The tablet has an all-metal body, measuring 6.85mm thick and weighing only 499g. It is offered in island blue, frost silver, and space gray. Powering the slate is the 4nm process-based Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor, paired with either 6 or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. To click photos (if you really have to), Huawei has packed 13MP shooter on the rear and 8MP camera on the front.

Huawei MatePad 11.5 (2023) runs HarmonyOS 3.1 on the software front. It comes equipped with a large 7700mAh battery that is claimed to last up to 37 days on standby. It also supports 20W fast charging. The tablet gets four speakers and uses an upgraded audio algorithm Histen8.1, leading the loudness to an impressive 82dB.

Pricing and Availability

In China, folks get a “soft version” of the tablet equipped with all sorts of eye protection tech. It starts at 1,899 ($264) for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage trim. The standard Huawei MatePad 11.5 starts at 1,699 Yuan ($236).

If previous reports are to be believed, TSMC is not getting satisfactory yield from its 3nm process node. The Taiwanese company is stuck at 55% while even Samsung has apparently managed to get a 60% yield. But it seems TSMC is planning rebound as an executive has now confirmed a more advanced 3nm process is in development. There have also been comments about the semiconductor industry’s fate in the coming future.

The new version will bring performance improvements

TSMC cut the ribbons off its 3nm process towards the end of last year. A lot of big names are looking forward to the development of this process node. Reports suggest Apple’s upcoming A17 and M2 chips will be based on the new processor. But it may not be very economical for TSMC due to poor yield.

However, the semiconductor company is working on a more powerful version of its 3nm process technology (Via ITHome). Luo Zhenqiu, general manager of TSMC (China) Co., Ltd., made the announcement at the 2023 World Semiconductor Conference in Nanjing. He said that TSMC has been preparing to launch the new process node since it began mass production of 3nm chips in the fourth quarter of last year. The new process node is expected to offer significant performance improvements over the current 3nm node.

The TSMC exec also notes that the global semiconductor industry is currently valued at between $500 billion and $600 billion. It is projected to reach $1 trillion by 2030. According to Lu Zhenqiu, the market distribution is expected to be as follows: high-computing power products will account for 40%, mobile computing (mobile phones) will comprise 30%, high-growth industries will represent 15%, and smart wearable devices will make up 10% of the market.

The Huawei Mate 60 series is already a topic of curiosity, with its release date, features, and price. According to the latest leaks, the Mate 60 series will feature the “Spirit Island” design, which is similar to the front-facing camera module “Dynamic Island” on the iPhone 14 series. Many people may criticize Huawei for this design language. However, the company actually used a similar design on the Honor V20 back in 2018. Moreover, many companies have also used this pill-shaped front camera housing since then.

The Spirit Island and Dynamic Island designs are similar in terms of their overall aesthetic, but they differ in terms of their interactivity. After testing it for several months, Google has made Nearby Share available on Windows PCs. The app brings convenience, allowing you to transfer files across your phones, tablets, Chromebooks and more devices. Available as an app to download, Nearby Share has been installed by 1.7 million users so far and over 50 million files have already been transferred between PC and Android devices.

Apart from the features that were already available on the Beta, Google has also added some new functions to the app. For one, it can now tell you the estimated time for file transfers to be completed. There is also an image preview feature within device notifications to help you share the right file.

Nearby Share works seamlessly on Windows. You can simply drag and drop files into the app. The process gets much faster if both devices (the sender and receiver) are signed into the same Google account. Earlier this month, Samsung launched the Galaxy M34 5G smartphone in India.
