OpenAI CEO Altman Advocates Global Cooperation to Mitigate Existential Risk Posed by AI

In a recent visit to the United Arab Emirates, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, expressed his concerns about the potential “existential risk” posed by artificial intelligence (AI) to humanity. Altman proposed the establishment of an agency, similar to the International Atomic Energy Agency, to supervise and regulate this groundbreaking technology.

Altman emphasized the need for careful supervision and management of AI to ensure its development aligns with the best interests of humanity. Altman’s remarks shed light on the growing recognition of the significant challenges and potential dangers associated with AI, prompting calls for global cooperation and responsible governance in this rapidly advancing field.

During his ongoing global tour, Altman has been engaging in discussions about artificial intelligence (AI) and its implications. He has raised concerns about the significant risks associated with AI and emphasized the pressing need to find effective ways to manage these risks while still reaping the immense benefits that AI offers.

During the speech, he drew attention to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as a model for managing dangerous technologies through the implementation of safeguards. Altman acknowledged that while AI may not pose an immediate threat, its rapid development could lead to significant dangers. He called for a nuanced approach, acknowledging the current state of AI while remaining vigilant about its potential risks. Altman’s remarks highlight the importance of finding a delicate balance between embracing AI’s benefits and implementing adequate precautions to mitigate its future dangers.

Recognizing the potential risks associated with AI, Altman whose company created the most famous AI ChatBot ChatGPT, emphasized the necessity of government intervention during his testimony to the U.S. Congress in May. He stressed the crucial role of governance in effectively managing the risks associated with AI. This growing focus on AI regulation reflects the need for proactive measures to ensure the responsible and safe development and deployment of AI technologies on a global scale.

Global cooperation is key to addressing Artificial Intelligence risks:

In a UN article titled Towards an Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, author Audrey Azoulay wrote that Global cooperation is crucial to ensure the responsible and beneficial use of emerging technologies, particularly those based on artificial intelligence (AI), for sustainable development.

Various stakeholders, including businesses, research centers, science academies, UN member states, international organizations, and civil society associations, need to come together to establish an ethical framework for AI development. Moreover, there is a need for stronger coordination among these entities.

Addressing AI’s ethical implications requires a comprehensive global approach, involving the participation of UN funds, agencies, and programs. This inclusive approach will help to avoid a selective approach to ethics and explore ways to leverage AI for sustainable development effectively.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is now receiving increasing attention from lawmakers worldwide, with the European Union (EU) taking a notable lead. The EU, consisting of 27 member states, is actively working on an AI Law that could potentially serve as the global standard for AI regulation.

Galaxy Watch 6 to stick with same charging speed, FCC listing reveals

The upcoming Galaxy Watch 6 series, scheduled for release next month, promises to be a significant upgrade over its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 5. While several noteworthy improvements are expected, one aspect that remains unchanged is the wireless charging speed.

Recently, the Galaxy Watch 6 series obtained FCC approval, shedding light on some key details, including model numbers for different variants of the watch. Two sizes of the Galaxy Watch 6, namely SM-R930 and SM-R940, are anticipated, while the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic is expected to come in two different sizes: SM-R935 and SM-R945.

Galaxy Watch 6 Wireless Charging Speed Remains Unchanged

The FCC listing also reveals that the Galaxy Watch 6 series will feature Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and Wi-Fi support. Notably, the wireless charging capability of the new series will peak at 10W, which is the same as the previous Galaxy Watch 5. Although this means no increase in charging speed, it is worth noting that it is double the wireless charging speed of first-generation Wear OS smartwatches from Samsung. Furthermore, compared to the Galaxy Watch 4, which offered 5W wireless charging, the Galaxy Watch 6 series represents a notable improvement.

The Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic are expected to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. In a move that will excite fans, the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic model is rumored to reintroduce the iconic rotating bezel. Additionally, both watches will be powered by the Exynos W980 processor, which boasts an enhanced CPU frequency.

Overall, the Galaxy Watch 6 series is expected to deliver a range of impressive features and upgrades, even though wireless charging speed remains consistent.

Turkey Now Sells the World’s Most Expensive iPhone Due to Economic Crisis, Making More Money Than Apple

Technology prices are rising all over the world. Flagship smartphones used to cost around $600-700, but now they can cost over $1000. This is because smartphones have become more than just communication tools. They now have features like cameras, gaming capabilities, and much more. In Turkey, things are even worse. Over the past 30 days, Apple products in Turkey have seen three price increases. This means that Turkey now sells the most expensive iPhone in the world. Here are the details…

Economic Crisis Makes Turkey the Most Expensive Place to Buy an iPhone

Turkey is often seen as a cheap vacation destination, but the reality for Turkish people is very different. They are struggling with a rising cost of living, which has been made worse by the government’s authoritarian policies and high tax rates. The crisis is most noticeable in the prices of housing and food. However, the cost of imported goods including tech products has also increased significantly. This has made it difficult for many people to afford basic necessities.

iPhone 14

The economic crisis in Turkey has caused the value of the Turkish lira to fall sharply. This, along with higher tax rates and exchange rates for the dollar, has led to a rise in prices for imported products. Apple, which sells its products in Turkey, has had to adjust its prices multiple times within a month. As a result, the iPhone 14 Pro Max with 1TB storage is now the most expensive iPhone in the world if you buy in Turkey.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max with 1TB storage space costs $1,599 in the United States. In Turkey, the price is more than double, at $3,273. However, only $1,636 of this amount goes to Apple. The rest of the money goes to the Turkish government in taxes. The government collects a lot of tax revenue from smartphones, which is much more than the profit made by the manufacturing company. The standard iPhone 14 with 128GB of storage costs $1818 in your country. That’s a lot of money! If you’re wondering, here is the list of countries where iPhones are most expensive in the world:

AMD Radeon RX 7800M XT benchmark hints that it can rival Nvidia RTX 4070

AMD is apparently working on a next gen mobile graphics card for upcoming gaming notebooks. The new GPU had its benchmark performance leaked, which reveals that it can rival a popular RTX 4000 series card from Nvidia.

AMD Radeon RX 7800M XT may soon ship in mid range gaming laptops

The performance leak arrives from benchmark sighting on 3DMark TimeSpy, which is a popular benchmarking platform. This leak shows that the upcoming mobile GPU will be based on the Navi 32 GPU and will feature 3,840 stream processors. Furthermore, the new Team Red GPU will have 60 CUs (Compute Units) and will offer 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM. It will be equipped with 240 TMUs (Texture Mapping Units) and 128 ROPs (Raster Outputs). Notably, this leak also arrives after the company announced the Ryzen XDNA AI tech during the Computer 2023 event.

AMD

Since it is a mobile variant for notebooks, the new AMD Radeon RX 7800M XT will likely feature lower memory bus with lower clockspeeds compared to its yet to be announced desktop variant. This means that it could feature a 192 bit bus spread across three MCDs (Memory Complex Dies) with up to 64MB of L3 or Infinity Cache. Looking at the benchmark scores, the RX 7800M XT scored 17,842 points in the 3DMark TimeSpy test.

In other words, this can rival the Nvidia GeFore RTX 4070 or even the RTX 3080 desktop graphics card. It is even on par with the RTX 4080 mobile version as well. This is quite impressive since the Radeon RTX 7900 XT can rival the RTX 4070 Ti desktop graphics card variant. Meaning, the new Radeon RX 7800M XT will likely be found in upcoming mid range gaming laptops as well.
