Huawei continues to expand its product family. The company, which has been experiencing difficult days in the smartphone market for a while, compensates for the losses in this sector in other industries. As a result, last week, the company introduced computer models such as MateBook X Pro and MateBook 16S to the global market at an event held in Germany. However, Huawei’s plans are not limited to this. The Intel i7 processor-powered 2-in-1 laptop, Huawei MateBook E 2023, has emerged. Here are the details…

Huawei’s New MateBook E 2023 Launching on May 18

Huawei is preparing to refresh the MateBook E 2-in-1 laptop model, which first appeared in 2021. The product, which has remained quiet for two years, will make a comeback at an event scheduled for May 18. The 2-in-1 laptop continues in a similar design direction, but it offers a serious leap in performance.

The MateBook E 2023 represents a true powerhouse in performance, delivering an impressive 50% performance boost compared to its predecessor. This substantial increase in performance can be attributed to the Intel i7-1260U processor and an innovative cooling system, ensuring the device maintains optimal performance even under intensive use. The device will be available in two versions: one equipped with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, and the other with the same RAM but a larger 1TB storage capacity.

A standout feature of the new MateBook E is its detachable keyboard that includes a built-in battery. This innovative design not only ensures the functionality of the keyboard but also extends the overall battery life of the device, facilitating longer periods of uninterrupted work or entertainment.

In line with the needs of today’s tech-savvy users, the MateBook E 2023 offers several connectivity features. It includes dual Type-C ports and supports Thunderbolt 4, providing rapid data transfer and charging capabilities. A stunning 120Hz screen is also part of the package, delivering an immersive viewing experience. The MateBook E 2023 runs on HarmonyOS and features unique elements like the Super Terminal, Mobile Engine 2.0, and Super Transfer Station.

The predecessor of this model, the MateBook E, was equipped with an 11th generation Core processor, a 12.6-inch OLED full-screen, an i5 + 8GB + 256GB + keyboard configuration, and was launched at a price of 5999 yuan. However, due to inflation and rising costs, the new model is expected to be slightly more expensive. Nonetheless, we should wait to discuss the price until the product launch event scheduled for May 18.

Huawei Watch 4 series hands-on video shows both variants in full glory

Huawei has announced the Watch 4 series recently alongside Mate X3 and P60 Pro. The device is slated for the official global release in June, and Chinese release on May 18th. Huawei’s Watch 4 series has been revealed in an early hands-on video leak. This video provides a detailed look at the new smartwatch’s design, including both Pro and non-Pro variants.

A Closer Look at the Huawei Watch 4 Series

The leaked footage first showcases the Huawei Watch 4 Pro from a side view, offering a clear look at its functional button and rotating crown. Despite its slightly thicker profile compared to its predecessor, the watch has a robust and solid feel. Contrasting to the images presented at the initial launch event, this hands-on reveals a wider watch face with slimmed-down bezels on all sides.

One of the standout features is the bright display, which offers clear visibility, even at a glance. The new variant also appears to sport a brand-new spherical glass that’s slightly curved. The strap, made of two different materials, including nylon, adds to the overall design aesthetics.

The smaller version of the Watch 4 series also gets some screen time. This model appears to be more female-friendly with a shiny frame, hinting at the use of stainless steel. It closely resembles the Huawei Watch GT 3 Elegant edition but with some differences, including its strap – a crisp, white leather band.

Huawei Watch 4 series specifications

Huawei-Watch-4-series

The Huawei Watch 4 series is distinguished by three unique versions, each coming with a different strap: black fluoroelastomer, titanium alloy, and brown leather. The series highlight, the Watch 4 Pro, touts a 48mm titanium case, and a 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED display shielded by sapphire glass, all in a lightweight design of merely 48 grams. The slightly smaller Watch 4 comes with a 46mm stainless steel case. Both models ensure seamless communication with an integrated microphone and speaker, Bluetooth calling, and e-SIM support.

The Watch 4 Pro incorporates Huawei’s TruSeen 5.0 technology, delivering health monitoring functions like arterial stiffness detection, skin temperature detection, ECG, SpO2 monitoring, heart rate monitoring, and TruSleep tracking. Both the Pro and regular versions have a “One-minute seven-point health overview” feature, summarizing seven crucial health metrics for quick review in the Huawei Health App.

In addition to eSIM compatibility and built-in GPS, these watches offer practical modes for golf driving range and free diving. They are water-resistant up to 5ATM and have substantial battery lives, with the Pro version lasting up to 4.5 or 21 days in ultra-long battery life mode, and the regular Watch 4 up to 3 or 14 days, respectively.

When 8GB Equals 16GB Fake RAM: Samsung’s Misleading Galaxy A24 Marketing Strategy

Marketing and advertising are quite important for smartphone manufacturers. These strategies are often implemented to highlight the key features of the device and to appeal to the target audience, directly influencing sales. However, in some instances, some brands make “wrong” decisions, attempting to deceive consumers with their marketing methods. Unfortunately, the latest example of this occurred with Samsung. The company, which launched the Galaxy A24 model in Malaysia, lied by promoting a phone with 8GB of RAM as though it had 16GB. Here are the details…

The Story Behind the ‘Fake’ 16GB RAM Deception on Galaxy A24

Samsung is doing everything it can to boost sales of the Galaxy A24, which it recently launched in Malaysia. However, it seems that the features of this $200 phone are not enough for the company. Therefore, it’s attempting to present the virtual RAM feature differently to consumers. In marketing materials, the phone, which has 8GB of real and 8GB of virtual RAM, is shown as having 16GB of RAM. Unfortunately, this tends to increase people’s expectations of the device and has a tendency to mislead consumers.

Despite Samsung being a long-standing leader in the smartphone market, its position is not guaranteed. Therefore, it must constantly introduce new products and increase both its sales and profitability by marketing them correctly. Regrettably, it should also refrain from telling falsehoods in the process. Of course, the word “lie” in this scenario is somewhat strong.

Because technically, with the RAM Plus software, you can indeed convert some of the storage space into virtual RAM. However, this does not justify marketing the Galaxy A24 in such a manner. Moreover, this is unfair to the device, which comes with decent technical specifications for its price.

IBM Employee on Sick Leave for Past 15 Years Sues Employer for Unfair Wages

In a David versus Goliath scenario, IBM employee Ian Clifford has taken on his employer in a battle over wages. After being on sick leave since 2008 due to illness, Clifford has recently come to the realization that his current wages are failing to keep up with the ever-increasing inflationary pressures. Frustrated by unsuccessful negotiations with IBM for a salary increase, he has taken the drastic step of taking his employer to court.

Clifford was not required to work at all for the past 15 Years

Clifford’s annual salary of £72,037 (approximately $89,671) seems substantial on the surface. However, when considering IBM’s health plan, which entitles him to 75% of his salary, his actual take-home pay amounts to £54,028 (around $67,254). What’s more, Clifford, who has remained an IBM employee for the past 15 years under the health plan, has not been required to perform any work during this time.

IBM

In his lawsuit, Clifford contends that he has not received a raise since 2013. With the ever-rising inflation rates, he argues that his current income is fast becoming inadequate, stating, “It will soon be beyond our means.” The median salary for full-time employees stands at £33,000 ($41,078) per year, while for all employees, it is £27,756 ($34,550).

According to IBM’s health plan, Clifford is entitled to this payment until the age of 65, which amounts to a total of £1.5 million (approximately $1.86 million). While the figures may seem substantial, Clifford’s argument lies in the erosion of his purchasing power over time. However, the judge dismissed his case, stating that “Even if the value of the £50,000 ($62,240) a year halved over 30 years, it is still a very substantial benefit.”

Google’s Pixel Fold Targets iPhone Users with Ridiculous Trade-In Deals

Google made waves at the annual Google I/O developer conference with its much-anticipated announcement of the Pixel Fold. Stepping into the realm of foldable smartphones for the first time, Google is looking to captivate tech enthusiasts. Leaks surrounding the phone had been surfacing for quite some time before the launch of the device, so everything regarding the Pixel Fold was more or less expected. However, what iPhone users definitely did not expect was Google offering ridiculous trade-in values for some newer iPhones, clearly implying that the company wants iPhone users to make the transition to their (possibly) first foldable smartphone.

Google is offering a $900 credit for the iPhone 14 Pro (128GB)

Set to launch next month at a price of $1,799, the Pixel Fold comes with another compelling proposition to make the transition enticing. Google is going the extra mile by offering a complimentary Pixel Watch with every purchase. However, as mentioned previously, it’s the trade-in values that have caught everyone’s attention, surpassing both Apple’s trade-in offers and those from third-party services.

Google-Pixel-Fold (1)

Google’s trade-in values are hard to ignore, especially for iPhone users. The company is offering an impressive $900 credit for trading in an iPhone 14 Pro with 128GB of storage, coming close to the price of a brand-new iPhone 14 Pro, which is hard to believe. Even for the iPhone 13 Pro, Google is offering a trade-in credit of $850, significantly higher than Apple’s $530 offer.

Here’s what’s interesting, trading in a Pixel 7 Pro towards a Pixel Fold nets a $380 credit, while the Pixel 7 Pro itself retails for $899. This move underscores Google’s commitment to promoting the Pixel Fold as a top-tier device. Google’s bold strategy to overpay for iPhone trade-ins demonstrates its determination to win over iPhone fans and make the Pixel Fold a success. As the company ventures into the foldable smartphone market, the Pixel Fold’s features and enticing trade-in values are sure to pique curiosity. Time will tell if this gamble pays off and solidifies Google’s position in the world of foldable devices, revolutionizing smartphone experiences for users ready to embrace the future. The launch of the Pixel Fold will definitely make some people sad, especially in India, who cannot purchase the device as of now. However, time will tell if this changes in the future.

Pixel 7a’s Adaptive Alert Vibration: Say Goodbye to Noisy Notifications

Picture this: you’re sitting in a quiet conference room, engrossed in an important meeting, when suddenly your phone starts ringing at full volume. The room falls silent as all eyes turn towards you, and you desperately fumble to silence the noise. We’ve all been there, and it’s an embarrassing situation that nobody wants to experience. Thankfully, Google has come up with a clever solution to save the day – Adaptive Alert Vibration, a new feature introduced in the recently unveiled Pixel 7a at Google I/O.

Users can customize Vibration Alert Intensity for their Pixel 7a

Traditionally, smartphones have offered limited customization options when it comes to vibration alerts. You could turn them on or off and adjust their intensity for different types of notifications, calls, and alarms. However, the vibration intensity remained constant regardless of the situation. But with the Pixel 7a, Google is revolutionizing this aspect by introducing a feature that allows users to customize vibration intensity based on the phone’s position.

Pixel 7a

According to a support document released by Google, users can now set the vibration intensity for when the Pixel 7a is immobile and facing up, such as when it is placed on a table. By navigating to Settings > Sound & vibration > Vibration & haptics, users can enable this feature for notifications and alarms. While you can’t define the exact level to which the vibration will reduce, this adjustment is a step in the right direction.

At first glance, this feature may seem inconsequential, as the phone’s screen typically lights up for notifications and calls. However, it’s the little details that make a difference. When your phone is facing up on a table, you don’t need it to vibrate excessively and disturb the peace of your surroundings.

Google’s approach to Adaptive Alert Vibration relies on accelerometer measurements to determine the phone’s motion and data from other sensors to ascertain if the screen is facing up. This ensures that the phone’s haptic feedback remains subdued when it’s in your pocket or flipped upside-down on your desk.

In a world where smartphones are constantly vying for our attention, it’s refreshing to see Google taking steps to offer users more customization and control over their devices. With Adaptive Alert Vibration, the Pixel 7a aims to ensure that your phone never disrupts a moment of silence again.

Oppo F23 5G Roundup: Specs, Pricing, and Everything Else You Need to Know

Although Oppo makes some high-end smartphones, most of its revenue comes from the budget and mid-range models it releases. These phones don’t exactly bring very impressive hardware but the brand makes up for it with a neat design and decent cameras. Among its recent launches are the Reno 8T, Oppo A98, and Oppo A1. Now, Oppo has announced the release of a new smartphone in the F series.

Oppo F23 5G will be launched in India on May 15 as the latest mid-ranger from the brand. As the latest additon to the lineup, the handset is expected to bring several upgrades, including faster charging, a better processor, and a larger battery. Ahead of the release, we have gathered everything known about the smartphone. Let’s dive in.

Oppo F23 launch

Design & Display

In 2023, there seems to be a trend among brands to apply a similar design to a range of their products. This is particularly noticeable with Samsung, as the company has opted to give all its phones launched this year a similar look, characterized by three camera rings located at the back. While this isn’t exactly the case with Oppo, the brand still seems to be sticking with the same design for a number of its mid-range devices. As a result, the upcoming F23 5G will share a similar appearance with a few other devices already on the market.

At first glance, the device resembles the Oppo Reno 8T, albeit it looks like a less refined version of it. The smartphone gets a slightly curved back and a cylindrical camera module that contains two large rings. The primary sensor is located on one ring, while the other ring accommodates two camera sensors and an LED flash. However, the alignment on the second ring looks somewhat unusual.

Oppo F23 5G gets a flat display on the front with a punch hole cutout for the selfie camera. The bezels around the panel are fairly thin. Overall, the device looks good but looks are subjective, so we’ll let you be the judge of its aesthetics. It’s worth pointing out that Oppo A98, which debuted in Malaysia recently, looks exactly the same as our device in question.

The smartphone is expected to get a large immersive display. To be precise, it may boast a 6.72-inch IPS LCD display, which comes with a Full HD+ resolution and has support for up to 120Hz refresh rate. It could be about 8.2mm thick and weigh approximately 192 grams. The handset is said to be using scratch-resistant materials and coating.

Specifications

As mentioned, Oppo F23 5G will debut as a mid-range smartphone, which means it will get good-enough hardware to perform most daily tasks. Under the hood, the device will powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 695, a processor that has powered many budget smartphones launched this year.

The SoC comes paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, along with support for 8GB virtual RAM technology. On the software front, the handset will run on the latest Android 13-based ColorOS 13 operating system. It will receive 4 years of security updates and 3 years of major Android updates. Oppo has really stepped up its software game so you won’t likely get any hiccups in that area.

In terms of the camera setup, the Oppo F23 5G is likely to feature a triple-camera setup on the back. There’s a 64MP primary sensor, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP microlens with up to 40x zoom. The bike is made with the same 6061 aluminum alloy with hydroformed tubes as the previous model.

The 2023 Rockrider E-ST 100 is priced at €1,099 (~US$1,203) making it an affordable option for riders who want to experience electric mountain biking without breaking the bank. However, it is unclear when or if the bike will be launched in other markets outside the EU.

Microsoft Faces Gamers’ Lawsuit Over Activision Blizzard Acquisition

Microsoft continues to invest heavily in the gaming industry without slowing down. One of the most concrete examples of this is the Activision Blizzard deal announced last year. The tech giant acquired the developer of games such as Call of Duty and World of Warcraft for $68.7 billion. However, despite the fortune paid, things are not going as Microsoft had hoped. With this investment, the company has become a target for competition authorities in many different countries and recently defended the Activision deal in a gamers’ lawsuit in a US court. Here are the details…

Microsoft to defend Activision deal in gamers’ lawsuit in US court

Microsoft is defending its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard in a US federal court today, facing a lawsuit from video gamers who claim the deal will harm industry competition. If completed, the deal would become the largest-ever in the gaming industry. It is even possible to say that the $68.7 billion agreement would be one of the most expensive deals of all time. However, nothing is finalized yet. US District Judge Jacqueline Corley will decide whether to issue a preliminary injunction to halt the acquisition.

In its simplest defense, Microsoft argues that the deal will benefit gamers and has requested the judge to deny the injunction. But do the gamers’ concerns reflect the truth? Looking at Microsoft’s past, we see that they release games on both consoles and PCs. However, we also see that the console is exclusively Xbox, leaving PlayStation out. While this may have been natural before, the acquisition of Activision Blizzard could change that.

People are worried about the possibility of games like Call of Duty being excluded from these platforms. Yet, the company claims there is nothing to fear and that such a move would lead them to bankruptcy. Still, it seems impossible to say anything for certain. Fortunately, the company’s hands are tied for now, no matter what their plans may be. Lawsuits are ongoing in many countries such as the US, EU, and UK, and they do not appear to be ending anytime soon.
