TECNO Unveils Android 14 Beta for CAMON 20 Series Smartphones

TECNO, the renowned Chinese smartphone brand, is making waves in the industry once again by becoming one of the first manufacturers to offer Google‘s highly anticipated Android 14 Beta release. This fall, the company is looking to delight its users by running Android 14 Beta on its latest CAMON 20 series, ushering in a new era of upgrades and enhancements that will elevate the overall user experience.

The TECNO CAMON 20 has a Unique Back Design & Intuitive Features

The recently launched CAMON 20 series has already garnered widespread acclaim for its winning combination of outstanding photography capabilities, unique design elements, and an immersive user experience. With cutting-edge features such as the revolutionary 5000 times/second Sensor-Shift OIS Anti-Shaking Technology and a remarkable 50MP RGBW Ultra Sensitive Sensor, the CAMON 20 Premier 5G emerges as a strong contender in low-light photography and steady portrait videos. TECNO’s CAMON PUZZLE Deconstructionist Design sets itself apart from conventional minimalist aesthetics by seamlessly integrating three-dimensional ribbed Magic Skin and advanced ceramic materials into its innovative back cover.

TECNO

Android 14 Beta is set to augment the user experience of the CAMON 20 series with a plethora of upgrades in privacy, security, performance, and user customization. Privacy-conscious users will be delighted to know that Android 14 raises the bar by implementing stricter security measures, ensuring that apps with a target SDK Version lower than 23 cannot be installed. This significant enhancement thwarts malware attempts and safeguards user security and privacy.

The latest Android iteration also introduces optimizations that significantly extend battery life. By intelligently managing background tasks, downloads, uploads, and various system processes, Android 14 enhances system efficiency, resulting in reduced power drain and longer-lasting battery performance.

Moreover, Android 14 addresses accessibility needs by offering larger fonts and smarter scaling options. With the ability to scale fonts for low-vision users, the new OS champions inclusivity, ensuring that everyone can comfortably navigate and interact with their devices. A non-linear scaling curve strategy intelligently adjusts the scaling rate for different text sizes, striking a balance that prevents overscaling of large elements while preserving the proportions between elements of varying sizes.

TECNO, a technology brand operating in over 70 countries and regions across five continents, has solidified its position as a leader in the target markets it serves. The brand consistently delivers state-of-the-art innovations through its diverse range of smartphones, smart wearables, laptops, tablets, HiOS operating systems, and smart home products.

Through its collaboration with Google and the introduction of Android 14 Beta on the CAMON 20 series, TECNO is demonstrating its unwavering commitment to providing users with an unparalleled smartphone experience. The future of mobile innovation looks incredibly promising with similar brands and Android 14 paving the way for new possibilities.

Economic Storm Shatters US Smartphone Shipments, But Apple Weathers the Tempest

The competition in the smartphone market is continuing at full speed. Tech giants such as Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, and Oppo are fiercely competing to sell more products and expand their market shares globally. So, what is the current state of this race? Counterpoint, often featured on Gizmochina for their industry reports, recently published the US smartphone shipments report for Q1 2023. According to this report, the ongoing decline in sales worldwide has continued in the US as well. Here are the details…

US Smartphone Shipments Decline in Q1 2023 Amid High Inflation, Inventory Correction; Apple Share Up

The technology world has recently been grappling with a serious economic crisis. During the pandemic, increased demand caused sales to skyrocket. This situation led to a significant increase in revenues, causing many companies to grow excessively. Of course, the pandemic didn’t last forever, and after the normalization process, demand for consumer electronics decreased. With the addition of the global inflation increase, interest in non-essential products declined for many people. This situation naturally affected smartphone sales as well.

Smartphone shipments in the US experienced a 17% YoY decline in Q1 2023. The drop in shipments affected all major manufacturers, despite a strong first quarter performance in the previous year. Amid this decline, Apple managed to increase its market share to 53% in Q1 2023, up from 49% in Q1 2022. Research Analyst Matthew Orf attributed the decline to inflation and an uncertain economic outlook, which has caused consumers to hold off on new device purchases.

Despite the overall market weakness, some niche categories such as foldable smartphones are expected to perform well. Additionally, when looking at specific models, it is possible to say that the sales of models like iPhone 14 and Samsung Galaxy S23 are in good shape. The real surprise, however, is the success of the Galaxy A14 5G model in the USA. Based on this, it is possible to say that entry-level phones are just as important as flagship models.

On the front, you get thick but symmetrical bezels that also house the front camera. The foldable is using a new teardrop hinge mechanism to minimize the visible display crease.

Google Pixel Fold

Moving to the specs, the Pixel Fold gets a 5.8-inch 120Hz OLED cover screen with a 2092×1080 resolution and a 7.6-inch OLED foldable display with a 2208×1840 resolution. For photography, the device features a 48MP f/1.7 main camera, a 10.8MP f/3.05 5x zoom telephoto camera, a 10.8MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera with a 121.1-degree field of view, and a 9.5MP f/2.2 outer selfie shooter. The Pixel Fold will be available in the US with a starting price tag of $1,799. The 512GB variant will cost you whopping $1,919. It will be offered in Obsidian and Porcelain colors and can be pre-ordered starting today at the Google Store. Those who’ll pre-order will get a free Google Pixel Watch worth $349. Google Pixel 7a Launches with a Tensor G2 chip, Wireless charging, 64MP Camera

For years, the A series smartphones have been the bread and butter of Google’s smartphone business, primarily because they offer good value for money. The latest addition to the lineup, Pixel 7a, was unveiled just now during the Google I/O conference and it pays homage to all the previous models with its impressive specifications for the price. The device brings the Tensor G2 chip (the same SoC that powers the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro), wireless charging, an upgraded camera setup, and much more.

Google-Pixel-7a-Featured

Pixel 7a is the new value champ?

With an affordable price tag, Pixel 7a could be a great option in the mid-range category, especially in markets like the US, which is dominated by Samsung and Apple flagships. The smartphone brings essentially the same design as the vanilla Pixel 7, featuring a bar-like camera module with a matte aluminum cover. The display is flat and the bezels are noticeable but at least they are even on all sides.

Talking about the hardware specs, the smartphone retains Pixel 6a’s compact 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED display but Google has upgraded the refresh rate from 60Hz to a decent 90Hz. Under the hood, it gets the home-brewed Tensor G2 chipset, which also powers the flagship Pixel 7 Pro. While the chip’s benchmark scores are not comparable to even Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, it is said to be a more intelligent and efficient processor.

Fueled by a 4386mAh battery unit, the Pixel 7a supports underwhelming 18W wired charging and comes with an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. But on the bright side, the device carries support for wireless charging.

Google has also upgraded the cameras on its latest mid-ranger. It comes with a dual rear camera setup that is headlined by a 64MP primary sensor and a 13MP ultra-wide. For selfies, you get a 13MP shooter on the front. As per the company, these cameras will support Super Res Zoom (up to 8x) and Real Tone for skin colors.

How much does it cost though?

Google Pixel 7a comes with a price tag of $499 in the United States. It will be available in Sea, Charcoal, and White color options. It will be available for purchase starting today in US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Norway, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Taiwan, and India.

Google Chrome’s WebGPU Integration: Reducing Data Centre Load and Enhancing Security

Google continues to develop and improve Chrome. With each new feature, the browser becomes a bit smarter, currently holding the market leadership with a 66.13% share. One of these features is the WebGPU capability, which was introduced in the recent Chrome 113 update. This technology was intended to boost web performance and improve user security. However, it appears that the browser will also lessen the load on data centers in the future.

How WebGPU Changes the Game

According to recent rumors, Google Chrome’s WebGPU integration will be more actively used in the future. A feature expected to be introduced during the Google I/O 2023 event will enable WebGPU to be utilized for a greater number of AI tasks. This demonstration will showcase the conversion of a text prompt into an image, with WebGPU handling the processing. Using WebGPU for AI tasks offers several advantages for users, such as avoiding network interruptions and having more control over data.

For example, Samsung recently banned its employees from using generative AI chatbots after a security breach. Running AI tasks locally with WebGPU can help businesses like Samsung use AI tools with better security and privacy. The integration of WebGPU in Google Chrome is a major leap forward in web performance, data center efficiency, and AI application security.

As browser technology advances, local AI processing and cross-browser compatibility will continue to refine user experiences, shaping a more secure and efficient online environment. Google is also joining forces with Mozilla’s Firefox, Apple’s Safari, and Microsoft’s Edge on a project called Baseline. This collaboration aims to create a set of features that web developers can count on to work consistently across all these browsers. By enhancing cross-browser compatibility, Baseline will make web development easier and ensure a smoother user experience across platforms.

Samsung and LG Worry Over Apple’s Potential Fail!

OLED technology has been present in our lives for a while now. This advanced technology, which is far superior to traditional panel types, works wonders in terms of efficiency and image quality. However, due to its high cost, it was only found in premium products for a long time. But as technology has advanced, costs have come down, and OLED technology is finally on its way to becoming mainstream. It seems that one of the first companies to lead this transformation is Apple.

The tech giant has long been known to want to use OLED displays in its Mac and iPad models. According to recent information, the company is ready to implement this change starting next year, but panel suppliers are holding back key investment in next-gen OLED production lines due to rising concerns. Here are the details…

Falling Mac Sales Have Apple’s OLED Panel Suppliers Spooked

Apple plans to launch its first OLED iPads in 2024. Since the company doesn’t manufacture panels, it needs to source the necessary components from third-party manufacturers, just like it does with iPhones. Apple has not yet chosen a partner, but South Korean companies Samsung Display and LG Display are eager to become the main suppliers.

At present, these two companies have large production capacities and operate Gen 6 OLED production lines. However, they plan to set up more efficient Gen 8 production lines that produce a higher number of OLED panels per substrate. Recent information has revealed that the Korean manufacturers are hesitant. Allegedly, Samsung and LG have not yet ordered the necessary equipment to construct the Gen 8 lines, which require at least a year to complete. This situation indicates that the manufacturers’ reluctance to invest stems from concerns over profitability.

The main cause for concern is the decline in Apple’s sales. Despite the success of the M series processors, Apple disclosed a significant year-over-year decrease in Mac revenue, dropping from $10.4 billion to $7.2 billion. If this decline continues, investing in large production capacities could have negative consequences for LG Display and Samsung Display.

Additionally, it is unclear whether Apple will be willing to pay for the OLED panels, especially since there is no precedent for their inclusion in MacBooks. Another concern arises from Apple’s stance on the deal. OLED screens would increase the cost of the already expensive MacBooks. This could lead to Apple pressuring suppliers to lower their prices, which might result in the investments not paying off. Hopefully, these issues will be resolved soon, and OLED-equipped MacBook models will be available to consumers as soon as possible.
