TikTok banned on all US Govt issued Smartphones

US government employees can no long use the TikTok app on their officially issued smartphones. The popular short video sharing platform has officially been banned and staff can no longer install this app on their phones.

The Committee of House Administration or the COA has just informed its staff that the social media app is banned from being used on House issued mobile endpoints. As per the official emails, ” The Office of Cybersecurity has been deemed the TikTok mobile application to be a high risk to users due to a number of security risks.” Furthermore, anyone working in the agency will also need to remove the app immediately from their official handsets or risk being contacted by the COA Office of Cybersecurity.

TikTok

The ban isn’t just limited to the COA but will also extend to other organizations and agencies within the US government. This news follows the recent spending bill that includes a more comprehensive ban that will prevent all federal issued devices from installing TikTok apps. For those unaware, the app is currently the most popular social media platform across many nations. However, it also faces criticism for being operated by ByteDance, which is a China based company and follows Chinese policy towards data management, privacy, and more.

Plus, it has also been accused on occasions for harvesting user data and other sensitive information as well. For this reason, the app still remains banned in India while various other governments, including the US have scrutinized and criticized the platform on multiple occasions.

Oppo Find X6 Pro detailed camera specs emerge online

The Oppo Find X6 Pro is the brand’s next-gen flagship smartphone, expected to debut at some point in Q1 2023. Multiple details regarding the device have already been leaked. And now, the camera details of the device have also been tipped.

OPPO

According to Digital Chat Station, the main 50 MP camera on the Find X6 Pro will use a Sony IMX989 sensor, a 1″-type sensor also used in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. It will sport a 23 mm equivalent focal length, an f/1.8 aperture, a 7P lens, and OIS. Oppo uses the IMX890 sensor, which has 50 MP, for the main camera in the Find N2, but here the 1/1.56″ sensor will be hidden by an f/2.2 lens.

Oppo

Given its 64 mm equivalent focal length, the telephoto lens will either contain a Sony IMX766 or Sony IMX890 sensor, both of which are the same size. However, the zoom will be roughly 3x. Additionally, OIS is included, and the aperture is listed as f/2.6. Last but not the least, the leaker also claims that the smartphone has a 32 MP Sony IMX709 sensor for the front camera.

Other details that have surfaced so far state that the device has a 6.7-inch display, which will be an E6 OLED panel with 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. A Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset powers the device. This chipset will reportedly be paired with up to 512GB of internal storage and 12GB of RAM. The device will be powered by a huge 5,000mAh battery pack inside, which could also handle up to 100W wired and 50W wireless fast charging.

Xiaomi 13 Ultra to feature an impressive new Periscope Zoom Camera: Tipster

The Xiaomi 13 series was launched earlier this month in China. But this is not the end for the flagship series, since the company typically also releases a high end Ultra model of its numbered series. Now, a new leak has revealed some interesting details regarding the upcoming Xiaomi 13 Ultra model.

As per tipster Kartikey Singh, the Chinese tech giant’s new Ultra variant for its latest flagship series will feature an all new and improved periscope camera on the rear. The tipster claimed that the new periscope camera on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra “will shock everyone.” In other words, the brand is clearly trying to bring some impressive performance or features through this zoom lens. The company’s Ultra models of smartphones are some of its most premium phones that also feature its best photographic capabilities.

Xiaomi

So, this news isn’t exactly surprising. Last year’s iteration, the 12s Ultra, launched with the Sony IMX989 sensor that had a large 1 inch sensor size. Singh further added that “Since last 2 years no-one was able to challenge Samsung in long magnification Zoom which made Samsung lazy and they are using same hardware for 3 generations now but next year things will Start turning around and this monopoly will come to (an) end.”

Meaning, the new optical zoom module could likely offer improved quality and sharper images while also offering additional magnification. Samsung still takes the crown with its telephoto cameras, but it soon might have a worthy competitor. Unfortunately, this is all we know regarding the Xiaomi 13 Ultra’s periscope camera. So stick around for more updates regarding this matter.

This Apple Watch Ultra Clone costs Only $50

Pebble was one of the most desired wearable brands by enthusiasts. The brand ceased operations after being acquired by Fitbit.

Though Google-owned Fitbit controls the Pebble brand name, an Indian company has been selling cheap smartwatches under this brand name for a while.

This Indian Pebble brand has recently released an Apple Watch Ultra clone priced at only ₹3,999 (~$50). Let’s take a look at it.

Pebble Cosmos Engage

Pebble Cosmos Engage is the latest product from India-based SRK Powertech Private Limited. This company sells a wide variety of accessories under the Pebble brand name.

Recently, the firm rose to popularity with its smartwatches. Earlier this month, the company released a clone of the Apple Watch Series 8 dubbed Pebble Frost. Now, it has launched an Apple Watch Ultra knock-off called Pebble Cosmos Engage.

The Pebble Cosmos Engage looks like the Apple Watch Ultra in terms of design, and that’s where the similarity ends. Other than the looks, the product is just another cheap fitness tracker disguised as a smartwatch.

It comes with a 1.95-inch IPS LCD screen sporting a resolution of 385 x 320 pixels and up to 600 nits peak brightness. Though the panel is not OLED, it carries support for Always on Display (AOD).

The IP67-rated wearable offers multiple sports modes and features, such as heart rate monitoring, sleep monitoring, Bluetooth calling, and more. It can be availed in three colors, such as  Salamander Orange, Starlight, Midnight Black, or Celestial Blue.

Last but not least, the product can be paired with both Android and iOS devices and it can only last for up to 4-5 days on a full charge.

Poco C50 India Launch Soon as First Teaser Emerge

Poco India has released the first teaser for the Poco C50 in India. Hence, it appears that it will be one of the first smartphones to land in India in January 2023. Like the Poco C40, which was an entry-level smartphone, the Poco C50 is said to pack modest specs.

The Poco C50 teaser released by Poco India does not reveal anything about its specifications. However, it does hint that the device will have a dual-camera unit. Several reports have claimed that the C50 will be nothing but a rebranded version of the Redmi A1+, which went official in India in October this year.

A recent report claimed that the Poco C50 will debut on Jan. 3 in India. Hence, the company is expected to confirm its launch date in a day or two. The Redmi A1+ variants, such as 2 GB RAM + 32 GB storage and 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage, were priced at Rs 7,499 (~$91) and Rs 8,499 (~$102), respectively. The Poco C50 is expected to carry a similar pricing in the Indian market. Like other Poco phones, the C50 will be sold through Flipkart.

The Motorola Razr 2022 (aka Moto Razr 2022) went official in August. It made its debut as the world’s first foldable smartphone powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset.

The clamshell foldable phone was released as the most affordable foldable device to date. Despite months later, it continues to be the cheapest foldable with flagship-level features.

To make the deal even sweeter, the company has now officially slashed the price of the handset to make it a bit more affordable.

Motorola Razr 2022 (Unboxing & Quick Review)

Ahead of the new year, Motorola has announced a price cut for the Moto Razr 2022. The clamshell foldable now costs ¥1,000 (~$145) cheaper.

Hence, it now starts at ¥4,999 (~$720) for the base 8GB + 128GB memory configuration. It has become the world’s first foldable smartphone to cost less than ¥5,000.

Unfortunately, this price drop appears to be China-exclusive for now. It’s not known whether there will be a similar change in the price tag for the European markets.

After Motorola Razr 2022, the Huawei Pocket S is the next affordable foldable device. However, it arrives with mid-range specs. Whereas, the Razr 2022 is basically a standard Edge flagship in a foldable form factor.

Therefore, for those not interested in the Rar 2022, the next affordable foldable options are Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Oppo Find N2 Flip. These handsets start at ¥7,499 ($1,075) and ¥7,999 ($1,147), respectively.

Xiaomi 12T, 12T Pro May Not Release in India: Report

Last year, Xiaomi unveiled the Xiaomi 11T and Xiaomi 11T Pro in the global market. At the beginning of this year, the company released the Xiaomi 11T Pro in the Indian market. Later in October, the company announced the Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro globally. So far, there have been no rumours about the Xiaomi 12T series’ launch in India. It appears that the 12T and 12T Pro may not release in India.

When tipster Kacper Skrzypek was asked whether the Xiaomi 12Tv and Xiaomi 12T Pro would be released in India, he ruled out the possibility of the 12T Pro’s India release. Talking about the Xiaomi 12T, the tipster said that “there is an Indian variant for “plato” (12T) in OTA, but there were no ROMs for a long time.”

To those who are unaware, “plato” and “diting” are respective codenames for the Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro. Since there have been no ROMs for the Indian edition of the Xiaomi 12T, it appears that it will not release in India.

The Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro would have competed with affordable flagship phones priced around Rs 40,000 (~$483) in the Indian market. However, the company may have a different strategy to rival the affordable flagships from other brands in 2023.

Xiaomi 12T Pro

Last year, Redmi released the Redmi Note 11 Pro and Note 11 Pro+ in the Chinese market. Both devices came equipped with the Dimensity 920 SoC. The Note 11 Pro duo was rebranded as the Xiaomi 11i and Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge in the Indian market.

A report from October claimed that the Redmi Note 12 Pro+, which debuted in China in the same month, will be rebranded as the Xiaomi 12i HyperCharge in the Indian market. Because the Redmi Note 12 Pro+, which will be available in India on January 5, is said to be identical to its Chinese counterpart, it is unclear whether the Xiaomi 12i HyperCharge will be available in India. Also, there is no word on the Xiaomi 12i.

Moto E13 visits NBTC & BIS certification websites, could launch soon in India & Thailand

Motorola is gearing up to launch a new E-series smartphone soon. The device is called the Moto E13, and it will be a budget-range offering. The smartphone has already made appearances on Geekbench and has also had its renders leaked. Now, the device has appeared on NBTC and the Bureau of Indian Standards database confirming that it will launch in Thailand and India.

The certifications do not reveal any specifications, however, the NBTC listing does confirm that the Moto E13 has the model number XT2345-4. The Indian variant on the other hand carries model number XT2345-3.

A recently leaked image of the smartphone has revealed that it will come in a Dark Green color option. The display features a waterdrop notch and is surrounded by noticeable bezels. A squarish camera island protrudes from the back panel. It has a single camera sensor as well as an LED flash unit. The device’s left side has a SIM tray, while the right edge has a volume rocker and power buttons. The power button is expected to function as a fingerprint scanner.

Other than that, the earlier Geekbench listing has revealed that the smartphone will be powered by a Unisoc T606 processor clocked at 1.61GHz. The device will have 2GB of RAM and will ship with the Android 13 operating system. Because the RAM is less than 3GB, we assume it will be an Android Go phone. Geekbench gives the smartphone 318 points for single-core performance and 995 points for multi-core performance.

Poco F5 Pro Coming as Rebranded K60-Series Phone, Poco F5 May Not Exist

Poco will be soon launching the Poco C50 entry-level phone in India. The Poco X5 and X5 Pro will be available in multiple markets in January or February 2023. It is likely that after these products, the company may announce its F-series flagship phone. There have been reports that the Poco F5 will be a rebranded version of the Redmi K60. However, fresh information shared by tipster Kacper Skrzypek reveals that the Redmi K60 will be rebranded as the Poco F5 Pro. As far as the Poco F5 is concerned, the tipper is unsure about its identity and specifications.

This year, Poco released the Poco F4 and Poco F4 GT. The former was released as a tweaked version of the Redmi K40s, whereas the latter arrived as a rebranded version of the Redmi K50 Gaming. As of this writing, it is unclear whether Poco will be releasing the Poco F5 GT since Redmi will not be releasing a device named the Redmi K60 Gaming.

Redmi K60
Redmi K60

The Poco F5 does not seem to be a rebranded edition of the Redmi K60e. The reason behind it is that the K60e is exclusive to the Chinese market. This year, Poco did not launch the Poco F4 Pro. Hence, there is a possibility that Poco may skip the Poco F5 in 2023. Since the new leak claims that the Poco F5 Pro is a rebranded Redmi K60, here is a look at its expected specifications.

Poco F5 Pro specifications (expected)

The Poco F5 Pro will arrive with a 6.67-inch OLED QHD+ 120Hz display, a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset, up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, and a 5,500mAh battery with 67W fast charging and 30W wireless charging. It will have a 64-megapixel (main) + 8-megapixel (ultra-wide) + 2-megapixel (macro) triple camera unit and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera. It will arrive with other features, such as an in-screen fingerprint scanner and MIUI 13-based Android 13 OS.

Skrzypek also shared some vital information about the Poco X5 and X5 Pro. Readers can learn more about it in the “Related” section, which is listed below.

In addition, he also shared vital information about the Poco X5 Pro.

Poco X5

According to the tipster, the Redmi Note 12 5G, which is available in the Chinese variant, will also release in the global market with the same name. As far as the Poco X5 5G (codenamed “moonstone”) is concerned, he claimed that it shares the same ROM as the global version of the Redmi Note 12 5G. However, the X5 has a different chipset. While the Redmi model is equipped with the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chipset, the Poco X5 will arrive with the Snapdragon 695. He added that since both chipsets have the same Qualcomm platform, making one ROM for both SoCs is possible.
