Vivo X Fold+ vs Xiaomi Mix Fold 2: Specs Comparison

This year Vivo released its first foldable phone ever: The X Fold. The year did not even come to an end, but the Blue Factory already refreshed it with the launch of a new variant: the Vivo X Fold+. The Plus variant is better than the previous device because of the presence of a stronger processor and a bigger battery, as well as a faster charging technology to fill it. But is it also better than the other latest foldable phones released by the other brands? As always, we think there is no better way to understand it than by comparing the device with the best rivals out there. There are two devices that can compete with this handset more than any other: one of them is the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2. This is a comparison between the main specifications of the Vivo X Fold+ and the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 which will help you to understand which one is the best.

Design

The Vivo X Fold Plus and the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 come with similar form factors: they are foldable phones which can transform into tablets thanks to the presence of a huge foldable panel placed in the internal part (the one hidden while they are folded). If I look at their aesthetics, I personally prefer the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 because it has a less invasive camera module and it is also a thinner device. The dimensions of these handsets are not so different, but the Xiaomi is definitely thinner and lighter, especially thanks to the presence of a smaller battery. While it is unfolded it is just 5.4 mm thin, and while it is folded its thickness is just 11.2 mm. It weighs just 262 grams instead of more than 300 grams.

Display

The displays of these two phones are very close in terms of specifications. They both include two displays: an internal panel able to transform them into tablets, and an external one similar to normal phones. The internal display of the Vivo X Fold Plus is an AMOLED panel that has a diagonal of 8.03 inches, the LTPO technology enabling an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz, a 2K+ resolution of 1916 x 2160 pixels, and the HDR10+ certification. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 offers more or less the same specifications, but it adds Dolby Vision support and it is able to show up to one billion colors, so it is slightly better. Even the external panel of the Xiaomi is definitely better: it is a 6.56-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2520 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ certification, and Dolby Vision. The Vivo has a 6.53-inch external display with AMOLED technology, the same Full HD+ resolution, and a 120 Hz refresh rate.

Specs & Software

These two foldable phones are powered by the same processor, which is currently the best mobile platform by Qualcomm. We are talking about the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 built with a 4 nm production process and sporting an octa-core architecture composed of a Cortex X2 CPU running at a max frequency of 3.19 GHz, three Cortex A710 CPUs running at 2.75 GHz, four Cortex A710 CPUs running at 2 GHz, and an Adreno 730 GPU. On both phones, the SoC is paired with 12 GB of RAM, but the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 offers a higher amount of internal storage: up to 1 TB. The handsets run Android 12 out of the box with highly customized user interfaces on top.

Camera

When it comes to the camera setup, the Vivo X Fold Plus is the real winner in this comparison. It has a quad rear camera composed of a 50 MP main sensor with OIS and laser autofocus, an 8 MP periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and OIS, a 12 MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom, and a 48 MP ultrawide sensor, all with Zeiss optics. Unfortunately, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 lacks a periscope camera, replaced by an inferior 8 MP sensor with 2x optical zoom. The main sensor is still a 50 MP camera with OIS, but the ultrawide camera is another inferior 13 MP lens.

Battery

The Vivo X Fold Plus is equipped with a bigger battery sporting a capacity of 4730 mAh. Given that the phone has very similar components to the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2, it should provide longer battery life in several scenarios. It even comes with wireless charging, unless the Mix Fold 2, as well as a faster wired charging technology.

Price

You need at least €1450/$1450 to purchase the Vivo X Fold Plus, while the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 starts from about €1300/$1300 at the actual change. They are only available in China. The Vivo X Fold+ wins the comparison thanks to a better camera and a bigger battery with better charging technologies.

Huawei P50 Series delisted globally due to unknown reasons

A recent report revealed that the Huawei P50 Series, which includes the P50, P50 Pro, and P50E, no longer ships with the Leica camera lens branding on the back. This was expected since the German camera company switched allegiances to Xiaomi. Now, in the latest development, Huawei has delisted the P50 series from the global smartphone market. There is no official explanation for the delisting, but it may have something to do with the Leica brand.

Huawei Central reports that the Huawei P50 series has been removed from the company’s global smartphone portfolio. All the store pages are reported to return a “No results found” message when searching for the P50 series smartphones. As of now, Huawei has not revealed the reason behind the removal.

Huawei
P50 Pro without Leica branding

It could be due to the Leica branding on the back of the phones. For the unversed, Huawei has been co-developing its flagship cameras with Leica for the last 6 years. However, Leica ended its partnership with Huawei and joined hands with Xiaomi. In conjunction with this change, the P50 lineup marked the end of the brand’s partnership with the German company.

As mentioned, the Huawei P50, the P50 Pro, and P50E will no longer ship with the Leica logo. However, it is unclear why the company decided to remove the logo at this point. Although, it appears that the change has not affected smartphones’ camera hardware. The higher-end P50 Pro still has a 50 MP primary camera with OIS and an f/1.8 aperture, a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor (f/2.2), a 40 MP B&W camera (f/1.6), and a 64 MP telephoto camera (f/3.5).

Google Pixel Watch unveiled with OLED display, Exynos 9110 chipset

After a long wait, Google finally unveiled its first-ever smartwatch, dubbed the Pixel Watch. It combines Google and Fitbit’s best features for health, fitness, and machine learning. The wearable comes with a circular OLED display with scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It runs on WearOS 3.5 and packs tons of health features. Let’s look closely at the specifications and pricing of the newly launched Pixel Watch.

Pixel Watch Specs and features

The Pixel Watch has a domed, circular glass display that is protected by scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and a stainless-steel housing. The watch is comparatively smaller than most premium smartwatches launched this fall, making it ideal for folks with small wrists. Its case measures 41mm and is 12.3mm thin. It’s also lightweight, weighing only 32g (without straps).

google-pixel-watch-on-stretch-band

On the underside, it houses sensors that detect continuous heart rate at 1-second intervals, tracks sleep, measures blood oxygen (SpO2), and takes ECG (electrocardiogram) readings. Sensors are arranged horizontally in the center and are surrounded by two semi-circles. This is Fitbit’s most accurate heart rate tracking yet, says Google.

As for processing power, the watch runs on Samsung’s older Exynos 9110 chip, which was last seen on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. However, it also packs an additional Cortex M33 co-processor to optimize battery life. It also comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

The Pixel Watch comes with Bluetooth 5.0, LTE, Wi-Fi, and NFC for contactless payments. It also sports a compass, built-in GPS, and motion sensors like an accelerometer and gyroscope. In addition, it has a built-in microphone and speaker for Google Assistant and calling.

Pixel watch fitness tracking

The Pixel Watch carries a 294mAh battery and is claimed to last 24 hours of usage. It is water resistant up to 5 ATM, which means it can withstand pressure equivalent to 50 meters of depth.

Pixel Watch Price and Availability

The Pixel Watch price will start at $349 for the GPS + Bluetooth-only model. While the LTE-compatible version of the Pixel Watch will cost $399. The watch comes in only one size. Its pre-orders start today, with the sale starting on October 13.

Xiaomi 12T vs Xiaomi 12T Pro – Specs Comparison

Earlier this week, Xiaomi announced the Xiaomi 12T series globally. There are two models in the lineup this year, the Xiaomi 12T and the 12T Pro, and they directly succeed the Xiaomi 12 series models that were announced late last year. Given that there are two new models in the Xiaomi lineup, we thought it would be a good idea to compare these two devices and see how they differ from each other.

If you look at the specs alone, there are very few differences between these two models. In fact, even in terms of their designs, the Xiaomi 12T looks identical to the Xiaomi 12T Pro. They share the same display and form factors, but there are some subtle differences when it comes to memory configurations and the processor underneath.

So let’s take a closer look at the Xiaomi 12T vs Xiaomi 12T Pro in this comparison and see how they differ from each other.

DESIGN

In terms of design, both phones are nearly identical. In fact, they both share a similar design profile as its Xiaomi 12 series predecessors announced last year. That doesn’t mean the design is bad, but if you were looking for a design refresh, you will be disappointed.

So both the Xiaomi 12T and the 12T Pro feature rounded corners with a rectangular camera module housing three cameras inside. The primary camera is pretty large on both the models, which is not surprising given how the 12T Pro features one of the highest resolution cameras in the market right now – a 200MP sensor. On the front, the two phones share the same panel with a punch-hole camera on the top.

Overall, in terms of the design alone, it will be extremely difficult to distinguish between the two models. Both have the same 163.1 x 75.9 x 8.6 mm dimensions, but the 12T Pro is a bit heavier at 205 grams vs 202 grams of the Xiaomi 12T.

In terms of colors too, both phones have the exact same color variants, namely Black, Blue, and Silver.

DISPLAY

Another area where the Xiaomi 12T and the 12T Pro are identical is in terms of the display. The two phones share a 6.67-inch OLED screen featuring a 1.5K resolution of 1220 x 2712 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, and HDR10+ support. Notably, it looks like only the Xiaomi 12T Pro will come with Dolby Vision support. But this seems to be the only major differentiating factor between these two models’ displays.

Both phones feature an under-display fingerprint scanner.

SPECS

The biggest difference between the Xiaomi 12T and the 12T Pro will be found in the processor department. The Xiaomi 12T Pro comes with Qualcomm’s fastest processor of 2022, the Qualcomm SM8475 Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset clocked at 3.2GHz. On the other hand, the Xiaomi 12T comes with Mediatek’s fastest chip, the Dimensity 8100-Ultra clocked up to 2.85GHz. While the Snapdragon chip might have a slight advantage in terms of processing power, both chips are extremely capable and should deliver similar performance and graphics power. You should have no issues running high-intensive apps or games on both devices.

In terms of available configurations too, there are some differences between these two devices. The Xiaomi 12T comes with only 8GB of RAM in 128GB and 256GB storage variants. On the other hand, the Xiaomi 12T Pro comes in 8GB and 12GB RAM models, with storage going up to 256GB.

Since they are from the same 12T series, both models run on Android 12-based MIUI 13 UI.

CONNECTIVITY

In terms of connectivity, there are some differences too. For example, the Xiaomi 12T Pro supports dual SIM but also supports eSIM which the 12T doesn’t. The Pro version gets Bluetooth 5.2 while the standard 12T gets the newer Bluetooth 5.3 support.

The Xiaomi 12T Pro also brings Harmon Kardon tuning on its Dual speakers which the standard variant lacks. Other connectivity features like 360° Ambient light sensor, Flicker Sensor, and IR Blaster are common between the two phones.

CAMERA

One of the biggest upgrades on the Xiaomi 12T Pro over its predecessors is in the camera department. The phone gets a massive 200MP primary camera at the back, supports by a 120-degree 8MP ultra wide-angle sensor and a 2MP macro shooter. The primary camera flaunts an f/1.69 aperture, with OIS, and an 8P lens.

On the other hand, the standard variant gets a 108MP primary shooter with f/1.7 aperture and OIS (no 8P lens) along with the same 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro cameras from its Pro siblings.

Notably, the 12T Pro’s 200MP primary camera will bin up to 16 pixels at a time to output extremely detailed 12.5MP images. Similarly, the 108-megapixel sensor on the 12T bins nine pixels at a time to output crisp 12MP photos.

Another difference between the two models is the additional camera features on the Pro model. For example, the more expensive sibling adds Xiaomi ProCut and ProFocus features to its camera setup. The Pro model can also record videos at 8K 7680×4320 at 24fps and 4K 3840×2160 at 60fps while the standard model is limited to 4K 30fps video recording support.

On the front, both phones feature a 20MP f/2.2 camera for selfies and video calls.

BATTERY

The battery and charging technologies on both phones are identical. The Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro come with 5000mAh batteries with up 120W fast charging support which promises 100% in under 20 minutes!

PRICE

The Xiaomi 12T starts at EUR 599 whereas the Pro variant starts at EUR 749 globally.

VERDICT

Overall, the Xiaomi 12T Pro seems like a better buy among the two with a bunch of additional camera features and a slightly better processor too. That said, if you want to save a few bucks, the Xiaomi 12T is a capable device too, and won’t disappoint for the value it brings at EUR 600.

Apple Watch sends user to Hospital ER after overheating and blowing up

While we have covered various reports of the Apple Watch saving lives of people that had a fall, got lost, or even trapped, a new report has revealed the popular smartwatch model is also responsible for sending a user to the ER.

The Cupertino based giant’s smartwatch arrives with a number of sensors that help detects irregular heartbeats, falls, and much more. However, one overheating Apple Watch sent its user to the hospital after it blew up. The owner of the wearable device reached out to 9To5Mac about this incident. The person stated that he was wearing his Apple Watch like any other day when he noticed that the wearable started getting hotter than usual. After this, he noticed that the back of the device had even cracked and watchOS even started displaying a warning about shutting down due to high temperature.

This incident didn’t occur out in the sun or under intense heat, with the user sitting in his home. The user then contacted Apple Support following this and explained the situation. Following this, the customer care executive escalated the issue to their manager who opened a case for investigation. However, there has since been no solution for advice offered by the brand since apart from telling them to not touch the device. Unfortunately, the incident didn’t end there as the device got even hotter to the touch the next morning, with the device’s glass also cracking because of the excess heat.

When the user decided to take pictures of his Apple Watch, it started making “crackling sounds” and exploded in his hands just as he was about to throw it away. The smartwatch has left burn marks on the user’s couch while also sending him to the emergency room because of lead poisoning concerns. But thankfully, the device does not house enough lead to be dangerous to a human being. Since this incident, Apple has made his case the top priority, and even arranged for a pick up for further testing. The company also sent him a document asking him to sign it to not share this story, but the user declined and reached out to the publication.

Samsung Delays the Launch of Galaxy Tab S9 Series: Report

Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab S8 series one and a half years after the Galaxy Tab S7 family.  A report from South Korea now says that the upcoming Galaxy Tab S9 series will be also delayed.

The next-gen premium tablets from the company were originally planned to release in December 2022. But now, it seems that they would be introduced next year.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus Ultra
Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra

The information regarding the delayed launch of the Galaxy Tab S9 family of tablets comes from The Elec. As per the report, Samsung’s decision is due to the recent global economic uncertainty.

As the COVID-19 global pandemic has almost ended, the demand for IT products has started dropping worldwide. Samsung planned to produce 33.6 million units of tablets in 2022. But due to poor demand, the company may not be able to fulfill its plan.

DSCC (Display Supply Chain Consultants) predicts that the overall tablet market will decrease by 8% this year. However, the premium tablet category (OLED and Mini LED) is expected to grow by 22%.

Hence, Samsung is said to have a new plan for its next-gen flagship tablets. The Galaxy Tab S9 series will reportedly have three models, just like the Galaxy Tab S8 series.

In other words, there will be a vanilla model, a plus version, and an ultra variant. The latter two will flaunt an OLED panel, while the former will arrive with an LCD screen.

Flipkart sends Apple iPhone 14 to customer that bought an iPhone 13: Report

With the festival season beginning in India, Flipkart is hosting the Big Dussehra Sale for customers in the region. Just prior to this sale, the company had also hosted its successful Big Billion Days sale as well. But during this sale, one customer had apparently received an iPhone 14 despite ordering the iPhone 13.

For those unaware, the popular e-commerce platform had offered the Cupertino based giant’s 2021 iPhone for a discounted price tag of around 50,000 INR. The e-retailer is still offering the iPhone 13 for a price as low as 57,240 INR during the current Dussehra sale as well. This had many customers ordering the iPhone model. However, one Twitter user claims that someone got an iPhone 14 for the price of the iPhone 13 during the Big Billion Days sale.

According to his tweet, the customer paid 50,000 INR on Flipkart, while the actual price tag on Apple’s official website during this sale was around 69,900 INR. Looking at the images in the tweet, we can see the Twitter user claims that one of his followers had received an iPhone 14 instead of the iPhone 13, which they had ordered. As of right now, Flipkart has yet to comment on this incident. Although, it is still unclear if the news is actually credible.

iPhone 14

But if this is true, then the person that ordered a last year iPhone model has just won the lottery and got their hands on a current gen iPhone 14 for none of the extra cost. With a price tag of 50,000 INR, this is truly a steal deal as well.

As per the new data, the Search Engine giant has managed to sell tens of millions of phones so far and its 2022 flagship models, the Pixel 7, will push sales past the 30 million mark now. For those unaware, sales of the Pixel series of smartphones actually started picking up in 2019, following the launch of the Pixel 3a model. With its first mid range handset, the company managed to see a 2x times growth in a year and managed to sell over 7 million units in a single year.

Now, IDC reports that the exact sales figure is around 27.6 million units of Pixel phones that were sold in the past six years. This basically means that Google sells about 4.6 million phones every year. Although, some years have clearly has the brand see more success than others. But overall, this figure is still quite small compared to market leaders like Samsung Electronics, which shipped around 10 times this figure in 2021 alone.

Google

But despite this, the Pixel series appears to be on a rise again, with the last gen Pixel 6 series breaking sales record for the Google smartphone lineup. Now, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are also highly anticipated, but it remains to be seen how they perform in the market. So stick around for more, as we will be covering the launch event later today (6th October 2022).

Here’s How Redmi Pad is Different From Other Budget Android Tablets

Earlier this week, Xiaomi introduced its first tablet under the Redmi brand. Aptly called Redmi Pad, the device offers some exciting features.

It can be termed the best tablet in its price segment by its raw specs. Let’s look at the features that make it stand out among the crowd.

Redmi Pad

What Makes Redmi Pad Special?

1. High Refresh Rate Display

High refresh rate screens are usually limited to premium tablets. But Xiaomi is offering this feature on its affordable Redmi Pad.

The device is built around a 10.61-inch display with a resolution of 2000 x 1200 pixels (WUXGA+) and up to a 90Hz refresh rate. The 10-bit panel has 220 PPI and supports up to 400 nits peak brightness level.

The tablet is certified by TÜV Rheinland-certified for low blue light emission. It is also the world’s first table to arrive with SGS low visual fatigue certification.

2. Customized Software

Most Android tablets on the market run close to stock Android with minimal features. Whereas, the Redmi Pad ships with MIUI for Pad, the same software that is found on the Xiaomi Pad 5.

As the name suggests, the MIUI for Pad is a customized version of Xiaomi’s Android skin designed for tablets. It packs useful features like split-screen, floating windows, multi windows, and a dock.

Almost all the first-party applications are optimized for tablets. Hence, they simply don’t run as a large version of a smartphone app.

The cherry on top is that Xiaomi is promising 2 Android and MIUI updates each, as well as 3 years of security updates.

3. Capable Chipset

Budget tablets generally house entry-level chipsets. However, the Redmi Pad is powered by MediaTek Helio G99 SoC, a chip that is found inside smartphones in this price segment. Hence, the device is as powerful as a regular smartphone in this range.

The device also comes with up to 6GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 storage. It also has support for MicroSD card expansion (up to 1TB).

4. Bonus: The Pricing!!

What makes the Redmi Pad an obvious choice for most people is its sweet pricing. The tablet starts at around €279 in Europe.

In India, the tablet is even cheaper as it starts at only ₹14,999. Additionally, for a limited time, the company has discounted the product by up to ₹3,000. It is even offering extra bank discounts.

As of now, the Redmi Pad is yet to go official in China. When it does, we expect it to be even more affordable there.
